Imagine paying an absolute fortune on a service for your ferrari and them lying to you about changing brake fluid. Goes to show how a reliable garage like AV is worth its weight in gold!
With the amount you saved on buying it Sam, you can afford to restore it to equivalent ‘Ferrari Approved Used’ condition and still be ahead. Probably easier to buy a set of standard 360 alloys and get a set of standard sized winter tyres for those.
Is it really a shortage of winter tires in the UK? I suppose the CS has 225/35ZR19 - 285/35ZR19 dimensions - there are plenty of winter tire variants for those sizes from different manufacturers, the sizes are quite common. It is not like buying a winter 335/30 for example

What a nice guy and 1st-class Ferrari expert ALDOUS VOICE is. Every time you have taken your cars to him, I've thought the same thing. Your car is in safe hands at AV ENGINEERING… and great content too! Good luck.
Aldous is 'next level' when it comes to Ferrari service/repair. He's an engineer and thinks like one when it comes to these cars. Wish there was a guy like him where I live (across the pond). Great vid Sam ol' Boy, beauty of a CS.
I’d keep as close to stock as possible, I think the purity of that alone will help keep the value in the car. Although I don’t think anybody would mind the HiFi being updated.
A stock car will always be worth more but I very much doubt that Sam will ever sell it, so resale value shouldn't be more important than making it the perfect car for him imo.
Congrats on the CS, Sam! Regarding the brakes, it's astonishing to me that Ferrari didn't develop the callipers more to guard against piston corrosion 😳 The guys at AV really are masters, fair play to them.
This is how you own a car. Cars are about experiences they provide, especially future experiences in this case. And don’t let the small things get you down. Sam gets it
Otis is a top notch technician. He knows so much about these classic Ferraris. With how good of a deal you got on the CS. Even if you have to put 15-20k into it you still got a great deal. Sam have you thought about getting different tires for the winter driving? It's crazy to think that the 360 is now a classic. I remember when Clarkson reviews it on top gear lol
If I had a Ferrari and lived anywhere near AV Engineering I would almost look forward to having them do the servicing and repairs it needed. The honesty, practicality, and attention to detail are what I love to see in a shop and they have that in abundance.
Good for you man. You got a car similar to mine as far as number of issues (I actually think mine had more) and mine had half the miles and I paid more. LOL. You did REALLY GOOD. You’re like me too with the CS, so I know you’ll literally get everything fixed and you will love that car for years to come. Enjoy!
I went to Podium place Newbury this morning (14/1). They have a Ferrari 360 CS on the turntable, first time I've seen one up close for years. I can appreciate why Sam loves it so much.
Brilliant video and love to hear the level of expertise and integrity from your go to guy. Learned a lot. All in all, I think you did great and looking forward to you sharing your journey with us, Sam.
When you bought this car from CC, the condition was noted "This Challenge Stradale was checked over by Maranello last year with all noted items attended to and £10k spent, and the car has covered less than 200 miles since then. " .... how come there are so many issues on this car then ?
Why not replace the CC discs with steel items? A lot of owners do this and put back the CC discs when they sell the car. Apparently the steel discs brake equally good at a fraction of the price...
What a car. What a purchase. And you get to build a series on refreshing it which we can all enjoy watching and you’ll earn from / cover the repairs. Win. Win. Congrats
I’m just so glad I’ve never fixated on Ferraris and always considered they are better suited to posters than the road but always enjoy your enthusiasm for them and it will make for interesting content good luck with your ownership..
Sam - a lot of chat about the F1 system compared to the manual over the years. Can you let us know if there is a 'special' way of driving your CS - do you lift off and flick a paddle to change up or down as you drive the car as we might do in an E-Gear Gallardo (as you might when driving a manual h pattern box)....
I recently purchased a 355 F1. After years of driving a standard, I can't drive a standard anymore because of an accident. I'm hoping someday I will be able to again. In the three months I have owned the 355 F1, I have never felt like I wished I had a manual. The F1 has blown my mind. So many people have knocked it, and it really works very well. It makes sense now why when the F430 came out, 90% were ordered with the F1. So unless you live with one for a few days, you won't understand.
Your considered risk in buying the Stradale has turned out very well.. Aldous is amazing at spotting faults and now you can make the 360 A1. A great car and a great buy Sam.
I replaced the brake pads for my second hand 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper and apparently they were never replaced before the 90.000km mileage. Cost me €550 work included. New front tyres (Bridgestone Turanza) €350. 1L BMW oil €25. Just these changes for under €1000 and the car runs so smooth. Never save up on maintenance. Always respect your budget. I want to congratulate Sam on his purchase and absolutely admire his need and respect for quality maintenance of his cars. No matter your background or financial status, maintain your garage properly.
This was a really great review of the car with what needs to be done now and what can wait for a broader service! What you would hope to receive but of course not always what happens. Fun video!
Aldous and Eddie know there stuff on Ferrari's, in fact Eddie is a Ferrari trained master technician with decades of experience and probably one of the best mechanics/engineers I've come across globally. People often forget that supercars have high running costs and its easy for a 20 year old supercar to drop a surprise 15k bill at any point - that's just part of the landscape. Very few people know these cars as well as this pair. The list of issues is relatively small. Sam does NOT need to change the CCM carbon discs as they are fine so no huge bill required, just replacement of the 6-pot front caliper seals and pistons. Not a major problem at all but important for safety. The rear tyres are consumables so not even worthy of discussion - just replace them (they go hard with heat cycles and time by design, regardless of wear, I replace mine ever 4-5 years regardless of mileage). Clearly its been well looked after in its former life, its very common for Ferrari's to have some paint on the bumpers and side skirts because they are low cars and easily stone chipped. The minimal corrosion again is quite common on modern Ferrari's, its not actually rust as the car body is aluminium, so again easy to repair. Enjoy it Sam, you deserve it!
Excellent! Even if it was a turd it's worth every penny. The CS is special. At some point do the resto like you did on the 360. NO MANUAL CONVERSION! In 20 years people will be building "CS tribute cars" and putting in the semi auto. I have had an r-tronic R8 V10 for 10 years and it's perfectly fine. Love the angry downshift blips.
15k sounds like a lot until the purchase price is factored in. But why does anyone winter drive cars like these? My admittedly not even worth talking about Jaguar F-Type stays in the garage from mid-November until late April, no salted roads for it.
I reckon you've come out well on top here Sam and you're being a bit hard on the car! You're man seemed happy with it and as you said the list given isn't serious and will allow you some time to plan the preventative maintenance and improvements with minimal critical items to sort in the short term. All in all I'd say a really good solid purchase and not forgetting a solid purchase of your dream car!!!! 👏👏👏👏👏
Wish I could bring my 360 Spider to AV. Bit far though, as I live in Michigan. Certainly noted some things for the next time I take it for service. As always, great video Sam, thank you!

I had hoped to swap my 360 Modena (very similar spec to your 360 Modena was) for a 458 but alas time has ran out as I close in on retirement. Good luck with. BTW I almost sold my 360 back in 2020/21. Aldous did consider it. Fortunately I still own it.

That's exactly what I had with the Brembos on my Range Rover. I couldn't believe they didn't have stainless pots, corrosion was terrible. E bay kits were less than £100 and the braking is now fantastic.
Excellent and congrats, pleased for you! I am keen to understand how you (and the body shop) is going to have a go at the couple of minor corrosion spots under the paint. There are no inexpensive old cars. My modest ‘06 530xi always needs something. Just like humans, everything mechanical wears out with age. Time waits for no one!! Sam knows this better than anyone. We are happy the repairs are not outrageous, especially when the car was not seen when purchased and devoid of a Pre Purchase Inspection.
Nice video and thank you! I’m actually at the moment working on the engine (belts of course) of my 360 and I’ll check the oilpipelinesbracket (nice word) right away! 👍🏻
