I entered my email address but never received any ebook. Could you please send it to me? Thanks in advance for your help. Also, have you ever tried Camlin's artist soft pastels?
Hello I bought a 48 set I can't/don't know if they are hard or soft there from China it dose not say soft or hard but they are rectangle small one's and they are called Masters pastel )Marie's.
Consider updating vid with: 1) chart listing features/benefits/pricing of each brand with comparison grade scale, 1 thru 5 or #stars; 2) Showing links to websites with customer ratings would be useful, too, bc it would support ur claims; 3) Adding a Final summary giving recommendations for beginners - such as best sets based on value, color range, etc. All this would make for a more comprehensive review. Also important, Emphasizing u r not affiliated with brand endorsements would thereby give ur reviews more credence. Otherwise, it’s good info on many pastel brands, both hard n soft versions compared together, how well they blend, variety of colors, price points/value, etc. Thx for detailed info. 👍🏼
My TOP favorite is Unison; to me, it is the brand that is the creme de la creme in both texture and color mixes (no black mixed in to darken a color range.) These are followed by Schmincke and Sennelier (just as in my watercolors.) Soft and intensely pigmented. Also, another favorite is Girault, especially their reds - to die for! Terry Ludwigs are wonderful, esp his portrait colors, though I find them so soft as to turn into powder if not handled very carefully. Rembrandts have ruined more than one painting with rock-hard bits gouging the paper, esp the blues - I don't use them anymore.
Love pastels dearly, it’s both drawing snd painting in one. I have about $3000 worth of pastels, and about 15 different brands/companies Have to say my 2 faves are Schmincke for finishing, there buttery magic, and love Blockx pastels for mid range application. Highly recommended color range is a bit low compared to Mount Vision another great brand. What’s your faves out there artists? 👨🎨🎨
Thank you for this excellent video, which is really helpful to see demonstration of the different pastels and to listen to your opinions about them. I recently bought a small set of 10 Conté à Paris coloured "soft pastels" from Amazon, but to my surprise they are actually quite hard. They remind me of chalk sticks (with a round section). I thought I was buying softer texture pastels, with the the idea of using them to add highlights to my watercolour painting (a tip I saw on a video by Marco Bucci, who used Conté à Paris "sqaure section" pastels). I'm a bit confused with my purchase now, but I thought I'd try and find out how I could use them anyway.
This is the BEST video every you got right to the point on what your title says Love it,very great information, I'm trying to decide what to buy and this just gave me that answer and so glad cause I dont want to buy stuff I wont use or dont work ,Now I know what to get,
Thankyou for sharing this, im practising my pastel techniques with my 'nouvel carre' i had from 2000 when last at art college, and a pack of 'inscribe' pastels.....and getting some lovely results, but im going to do some test experiments and leave some pics in sunlight etc and see how they fare...as this year im planning on setting up selling some of my art !! exciting! but want the art to last of course :)
Really enjoyed your brands reviews, so helpful, just received Unison soft pastels, going to check out the Toison D OR extra soft pastels. You have a Great way of explaining everything, only just started to use so every piece of advice is much appreciated. Take care and Stay safe June /UK. 🦋
Thank you for making this video! I've just ordered koh-i-noor hard pastels after watching this!! My favorite is Conté de Paris because they are largely available in my area :) I totally agree with your comment on faber-castell, it's my first soft pastel set and they quite discouraged me at the beginning due to their quality. But Faber-Castell Polychromos Pastels are differently better! Less dust and a bit creamy but they aren't much available in my area (Paris) P'tit information for Koh-i-noor Toison d'Or, they are actually 120 colors available:)
I have tried every brand that you mentioned! I even tried a few you didn’t. I have several brands but I decided that Schmincke had the best sticks and I have the most of them. Schmincke pastels did not crumble like the Sennelier full sticks always have done for me. The blue earth sticks were the most disappointing to me. Far to expensive for the stick size and durability. If I had unlimited funds I would invest in Terry Ludwig's as they look to be some of the best out there Just out of my price range! I have wished more than once that I had spent more of my money on Unison than the Schmincke’s but they don’t last forever and I will be buying more down the road! Thank you for sharing your ideas and opinions, I look forward to seeing the content of your booklet and believe that it will be as informative as you are in your videos! Have a lovely day.
thank you Mike! It's really useful to hear what other people use and I am happy you mentioned the stick size/price of blue earth pastels. have a wonderful day! :)
Hi I hope you’re doing okay I was kinda worried for you. Great video by the way . Just watched it for the second time. I like how you swatch the colors
I enjoyed your video, it was very informative. One pastel type you didn’t mention was Pan Pastels. Have you ever tried them and if so what is your opinion?
Hello Kate, I subbed yesterday since I really think your videos are wonderful for beginners! One question: you mentioned a Russian brand of pastels in one of your videos. Would you please let me know the name of these? I would like to try them out, hopefully I can get them somewhere in Europe. Thanks again for the great work you do for us! Greetings from Germany!
Thank you that was very interesting as I had recently bought a small pack of 12 soft pastels and they are Daler Rowney. They are long and thin but I have enjoyed playing with them. I need to add to my colour range though as I am finding 12 rather limiting!
yup, 12 is a bit too few but you can play around mixing them :) but I have to warn you, pastels become an addiction and you cannot stop getting more and more :)
It's been many years since I've touched chalk pastels. I remember it was one of my favorite mediums to work with. However, I have no clue what to start with as far as brand and paper. If I should go soft or hard etc.
I love my Rembrandt soft pastels the most and Sennelier the least.. They are just too crumbly for me I guess but I'm heavy handed also.. Thanks, Kate, for a really great video!! 💖

I've got the beginners set of Faber-Castel and I love it 😁

MERCI
Kohinoor round sticks are very tricky to unwrap from the plastic around them.
Great video! Thank you!

I messaged the pastel school a few days ago with a question & never heard back.

Hi Kate thanks for your video I love Nupastels Rembrandt Panpastels Unison I think that is enough for my style of work

Thanks for the great info! Any thoughts on Paul Rubens or Mungyo?

Great video I liked it a lot and watch all the pastel review videos.
Awesome, thank you!
Wonderful video. I learned quite a bit. I am working with Panpastels. And what a beautiful kitty!
Glad you enjoyed it! thank you! :)
Ty!
Hey i am confused between rembrandt and extra soft royal talens. Can you help me out?
Hi I hope you’re doing okay I was kinda worried for you. Great video by the way . Just watched it for the second time. I like how you swatch the colors
Which note we can use for soft pastel
Art Spectrum is another fantastic brand. They come in soft pastels and extra soft pastels.
thank you for the suggestion :)
I've only tried Rembrandt and Sennelier, and I definitely prefer Rembrandt. Sennelier is just too soft for me and hard to do details.

thank you! yup, I did crush one stick myself (sennelier) and I use a very light touch. so it might simply be the pastels themselves :)
I like mungyo
Mungyo Gallery Hand made soft pastels for me are the best, I rate them even above Unisons.
Have you tried Staedtler soft pastels? Is it worth investing in?
These are expensive pastels. I bought Mungyo Gallery Artists' Soft Pastel. I will try to learn it from youtube videos.
Have you tried Jackson’s?
Apparently Terry Ludwig are now completely non-toxic. If so, that’s a huge plus. Too expensive for me at the moment though.
Sennelier. Awesome
