    In my experience Schmincke pastels are overall softer than Sennelier pastels. I produce handmade pastel colour charts for both brands and the Schmincke pastels make more waste dust than Sennelier which suggests they are softer. I can honestly say the Schmincke are softer overall because I have compared the full set of colours for both brands.

      I definitely cannot say for the whole set! I don't know if I agree with the more dust = softer aspect though! The Sennelier have some colors that are truly buttery and melt on the paper without leaving too much dust behind and in my opinion these are the softest of them all. The two brands are very close though I think 🤷‍♀️

      @@MyrtosArtCorner I totally agree the difference between the two brands is very small and some Sennelier colours are exceptionally soft. I would go as far to say that some Sennelier pastels are almost too soft and by that I mean they break and crumble so easily. However as a general observation, comparing the full set of colours and not individual colours of both brands, Schmincke are softer overall. Yes I am measuring softness by the amount of waste pastel dust lost during the painting process. It’s clearly not the only way to measure softness but worth taking into consideration. Great video by the way.

      Thank you! I do agree that some are too soft indeed 😅. I also don't know if there is difference between the half sticks and full sticks to be honest, which is why I tried to be completely transparent as to what I'm using and how 🤷‍♀️

    I have Sennelier soft pastels and the light blue Sennelier you’re showing went on like “butter.” A darker blue was scratchy…such a difference.

    Very helpful for a beginner - I was about to go down a rabbit hole as they, as well as Rembrandt, are about the same price per stick in Australia (all about $7 per full stick). I will buy a few to try. Thank you.

    Both are extra soft, with a high concentration of pigments and just the right amount of binder, without chalk or superfluous substances. The differences in hardness are due to the nature of each pigment: some blue pigments are harder. They are both entirely handmade, which explains the difference in thickness or length within the same brand. One difference comes from the number of colors offered Sennelier offers 525 shades of "pastels à l'écu" and Schmincke offers 400 colors. In France the price is around 4€ : Sennelier 3.75 € Schmincke 4,25 €

      En français : Les 2 sont extra soft avec une forte concentration de pigments et et juste le liant necessaire, sans craie ni substances superflues et. Les différences de dureté est due à la nature de chaque pigment, certains pigment bleus sont plus durs. Ils sont tout les 2 fabriqués entièrement à la main ce qui explique la différence d'épaisseur ou de longueur dans une même marque. La différence vient du nombre de couleur proposé Sennelier offre 525 nuances de "pastels à l'écu" et Schmincke a 400 couleurs. En France le prix est autour de 4€ : Sennelier 3.75 € Schmincke 4,25 € . J'aime la luminosité des Sennelier :-)

      @@MyrtosArtCorner Hello my friend. My art catalogue only had Half Sticks in the Sennelier....so Sennelier it is for starting :) The paper I am stuck on LOL My catalogue has "Sennelier oil Pastel Cards", Clairefontaine Pastelmat (much more expensive) and UArt Sanded Pastel Paper. Your advice would be very much appreciated! Amazon's prices were sooooooooooooooooooooooo expensive, so I had best use my Art Discount catalogue :)

    Schmincke pastels in America cost $6.11.

    • @MyrtosArtCorner
      @MyrtosArtCorner  3 роки тому +1

      The price differences are insane from one country to another, which is exactly why the comparison can only be made by each artist individually 🤷‍♀️ I think that's true for most art supplies to be fair!
