My Chemistry professor mentioned that you need to know scientific notation and I was nervous because I forgot it. But now I know it. Thanks Tyler Dewitt
I learned this in 7th, forgot, relearned it in 11th, forgot, and now am in medical school and had to relearn it again. Moral of the story: don't forget it.
This is literally saving my grades. Thank you! I missed the whole week where my math teacher taught chapter 8. The test is coming up and I thought I’d have to wing it!
What I like about him is he isnt rushing and is explaining carefully so we would all understand,at the same time he's trying not to make it boring.I have a test tomorrow and this will practically save my life.
I like how you are not like regular teachers who just write what the textbook says. You actually explain the meaning behind it, its purpose, etc. This really helps better understanding mathematical topics.
I am learning about scientific notation in school right now and it is actually so easy!! But with you explaining and showing examples, that makes it much easier. Thanks!!!!
I love how thorough you are at explaining this. Baby steps for those like me barely learning scientific notation is much needed. All teachers should be like you!! Unfortunately, science professors just expect you to know this stuff. Thanks for sharing!!!
You are doing an EXCELLENT job of explaining these concepts. I heard it said once, that the true mark of an excellent teacher is his/her ability to take difficult concepts and present them in a way that makes them appear simple. You have done just that! As a homeschooling mom of four, we have had the opportunity to sit under the instruction of many teachers .... you are among the best!!! Thanks - wish you much success!
Tyler, you are a god send man. I started my summer general chemistry class and two days in thought I was going to bomb. Just spending a few hours watching your videos has got me in a place where I can feel confident that I could pass. Some people are just not meant to be teacher, you on the other hand have mastered teaching people chemistry. Thank you!
Hey Tyler DeWitt your videos are absolutely fantastic, man. They really help people who are struggling with Chemistry. They way you explain is the best in my views. Thanks so much and keep up the great work!
i’ve only watched three of your videos and i’ve learned more than anything my chemistry has taught so far, if i pass my final it is sincerely because of you 😭
This is the easiest way to learn! I love it! Wish i had a teacher like him, who used a teaching method like his for all of my subjects! I would understand everything! In my maths class today, I was learning this topic and couldn't understand, so I asked my teacher, who tried to explain it to me for atlas 10 MINUTES. I still didn't entirely understand, but after watching just 6 minutes of this video, I understand how it works! Thanks Tyler!
This tutorial has saved my sanity. Taking assessment testing for university and I've not done math in more than a decade. I watched 3 other tutorials before yours and they were mucho complicado and very messy. Great job and thanks!
These rules are EASIER. If it was originally a WHOLE number, the exponent will also be POSITIVE. If it was originally a DECIMAL number, the exponent will be NEGATIVE. I don't know... that's just what works for me.
Yeah, I think those rules are good for many cases, and you should definitely use them if they work. The reason I like my method is because it also works really well for when you have to turn scientific notation back into regular numbers. And when you have a number like 0.00045 x 10-5 that you have to turn into correct scientific notation, that can also get tricky if you don't have a good sense of how the exponent goes up or down as you move the decimal place left or right.
I was the fastest one in class (grade 7) in solving scientific notation and now I need it for grade 9 for the official exam Lots of love & respect❤️ From Lebanon 🇱🇧
First video I've watched on notation and I've no need to go in search of others like I'd usually do because I didn't understand the first one. Perfectly explained without the fluff. Excellent video.
I sat in my first chemistry class totally overwhelmed and glazed over...I came home and found your tutorials. Thank you sooooo much! I get it. I have a lot more hope I will do well in the class.
Have a huge test tomorrow, and I sit in between loud people. I always get distracted in class. This guy is seriously saving my chemistry grade. Thanks!
I just learned more in less than 14 minutes than I did from my useless chemistry lecturer in 2 x 1.5 hour torturous lectures. Bravo and thank you for the vid. Simple, very easy to grasp, lots of examples, great stuff :)

Tyler, You have a special gift. You understand and you can explain it better than anyone I know. What a relief you give. Very happy I found your video! Thanks for sharing.
this is what i call a true teacher, he explains it so well i understood every part of it... thank you so much. and let me tell you if i can do it anyone can...
You make it so easy. When I come back from school I rush here to hear your explanations cause in school I have a very hard time understanding. You really know how to teach.
Ok I have a question, if the number has a decimal right in the middle of it or somewhere around the middle and there are numbers that are NOT zero on both sides of the decimal what do I do then? An example of this is 100.009 or 156.99. Please help me, thank you
You can't put it in scientific notation, because when you do use scientific notation you raise a power to 10 and no matter what you raise it to, the outcome will always be a bunch of zeroes.
+Nadaa Koubaa You can put any number into scientific notation. Just follow the rules in this video. Wherever the decimal place currently is, that's 10^0. Then just start moving it to the left and make the exponent bigger. So your first example, 100.009, you'd move it two spots to the left and you'd get 1.00009 x 10^2. Make sense?
You can do it with the second example as well, the number doesn't have to be 0. For the second example, the answer would be 1.5699 x 10^2, you'd move the decimal two spots to the left, just like for the second example. Scientific notation works for all numbers.
Thank you!! I have a test tomorrow and i've been searching the internet trying to find a tutorial about scientific notation that makes sense! Great job!!!!!!!!
