I maintain that my NS-2 is the best pedal I own. I’m a massive fan of fuzz, octaves and crazy sounds but the pedal that’s improved my tone the most is the NS-2. Using the 4-cable method and all the noise is tamed and my sound is so crisp now.
Thank you brother! I found The diagrams while editing ! They would have been of great use during the recording of the video 😅🤣. But hey ! Anything I can add and find to help will be thrown in there, even if last minute! 😉
Great video! I'd like to ask a question! I am aware that there are various connections diagrams depending on the signal chain used ( no distorsion, only pedals distorsion, only amp distorsion, amp and pedal distorsion). Is it possible to use the ns with a preamp pedal placed in the return of an amp? The ns use the send and the return to kill the noise, so I was curious about the right connections to do in this case! With the amp gain only both the send and the return of the amp are used with the loop of the pedal, but with the return used with the preamp how should it be connected? Thanks a lot!
ive got this pedal but i have it plug in the easy way so im gona have a try plug it in with the loop as im having extra noise when i use my big muff pedal great vid thanks a lot
Is your setup just the NS2 and a Pedal board? If so, cable 2 sends from the NS2 to the input on the board and from the out of the board you go back into the NS2 Return. Just replace the DS1 on the screen at 7:15 for the pedalboard.
@@PatPosse Actually returned the NS2 to guitar center but kept a Behringer $25 model. prior to getting a noise gate i had the guitar plugged into a vocal harmonizer, thru to an A/B switch with A to a wah pedal then to amp, B to a guitar synthesizer to the PA. I got it wired correctly but can't understand why these companies can't include a simple wiring diagram with the box--but thanks for telling me not to take the pedal into the shower!
Hello @PatPosse ! This is a great video on both how to use and how to set up! I had a question through... I just bought the NS-2 yesterday. I have is all plugged in correctly and it seems to be working great. The thing I noticed though is there is zero noise when I am not playing the guitar. However when I start to play the guitar I can still hear the noise over the guitar distortion. Is this normal? I have it hooked up correctly using the send/return into my distortion pedals.
Hi there! Yes, it's normal... what noise gate pedals do is "close the gate" once the bigger signal (the guitar one over the added noise) is done coming through. But also, when it opens ALL the signal (noise included) comes through. It shouldn't be that noisy though... There's something on your signal that is adding too much noise.
It really depends on what you need. I try to set the threshold high enough so that it kills most of the noise but not so high so that it kills the sustain… same with the Decay… I make it quick enough so that it closes the gate fast but not so fast so that it still sounds natural. It takes some trial and error and it varies from guitar to guitar and stage to stage sadly… most of the time it’s pretty close though
On the 3rd method you say to run the SEND on the pedal to the input on the front of the amp, then you say to run the SEND on the pedal to the return on the amp fx loop in the back. You don’t say where the OUTPUT on the pedal goes.
Sorry bro, I must have missed that... I recorded this a while back and in a rush. I think it shows... Anyhow, check the diagram at the end of the video. You can see all 3 methods there! Hope to help. Thanks for watching!
To Clarify for Method 3, you said the Send from the NS2 pedal goes to the distortion pedals. You then said the Send goes to the effects loop. Did you mean to say the Output from the NS2 pedal goes to the distortion pedals and the Send from the NS2 goes to the Return of the effects loop? Thx
Have you tried going through the NS2 twice? I just helped a friend of mine setup his rig with 4 (yes, FOUR) overdrive/distortion pedals and it got them quiet…
When I tried to do 4 cable method, the ns2's attack time is longer than the videos on internet (When I chug it slowly opens up). Can you help me what can i do?
But you didn’t finish to explain the second method, you got carried away going to the pedalboard and forgot to explain how do you set everything up when your amp only has one input jack.. i have a Boss Me-80 and I’m trying to figure out things here my other devices dont have send/return jacks, how can I do this?
It will help get rid of cable noise and interference. But it’ll also drown your tone a bit by doing so because you’ll have to push the threshold and decay a lot. Definitely worth it but consider getting better cables soon 😉
How the hell do Vai and Satriani and others solve these noise problems? On their DVDs it's as if they are playing along to perfect tracks that that have been perfected in the studio...you can never even hear a millisecond of 60 Hz hum or noise anythime. I tried a few noise gates, my ears are telling me that it's signal plus noise that is still getting thru.
@@PatPosse Right but Satriani shows up to the gig and has nasty hum. Does his tech put an oscilloscope on the incoming AC. Does he have a way to measure for Signal plus noise/noise and is 10 pct noise acceptable.
@@ab9957 Live they probably get by with just a noise gate (or two). Of course, there's more advanced ones that work better (at a higher premium) and I've found that a lot of them either use batteries to bypass the 50/60Hz cycle or (better yet) use a Power Conditioner that cleans up that noise.

The diagram of how to connect it with the effects loop at the end was priceless. Thank you sir!
Happy to help!! 😁😁
Best video of the NS2 and most easily understandable on YT. Period.

When you've got it set on stage where on the clock dials are all the knobs aren't they all close to 12 oclock?

Hi, I have a Fuzz, a Distortion, an Overdrive, a Chorus, a Wah, and a Looper, and my amplifier only has one input. Where should I place NS2?
@@jorgeluissantibanezmiyahir5983 it should go first (before or after the wah pedal)

Is it worth of buying if you have bad cable?
It will help get rid of cable noise and interference. But it’ll also drown your tone a bit by doing so because you’ll have to push the threshold and decay a lot. Definitely worth it but consider getting better cables soon 😉
