I got so lucky back in 2017. Target had put the Dreamworks Voltron Lions on Clearance. But somehow the 2nd wave classic, were on the same SKU, so they went straight to clearance prices. I got them for $9.99 a piece
I wouldn’t call it affordable. The collector scalpers are selling them for like 100 a piece. I wish I had that much free time to camp at stores but I have a life, family, and career. Sometimes I think toy companies are shipping directly to these scalpers to take in bigger profit. I will just get my boy the shirt.
Playmate was upfront from the beginning and said they were reissue. It’s just a great chance for people who couldnt get the original release to finally get it. Although most likely at a higher price.
@@Rob-z7k I thought it looked cool, but never picked it up because I’m not a fan of the connection points for the arms. Look too damn flimsy and breakable. But since you own it, how do you feel about the connectors?
@@FluffyCajun ....its the 85 Voltron from Playmates. I remember buying it right away and later shot up in price on ebay. Atleast it gives new buyers a chance to have it
@@RoyalKnightVIII well they are also smaller, so maybe they could release them by team, so basically air team 5 pack, land team 5 pack. You get the idea, how much would they cost? Depends, I can honestly see them only charging a little more for each pack if needed
I remember back in 18 I could not find the red lion to complete my set, I finally found it online on Walmart and when I went to pick it up I got an unexpected surprise… two boxes with my name on them… I tried to tell the nice lady that there must be some mistake and she said oh don’t worry just take them they have your name on them and they had to be shipped here from another location and there was some issue with returning them, so I took my boxes and got lucky. I keep one mint in package as it looks great
God I remember having the metal ones as a kid. Voltron was probably one of my top three favorite shows that with thundercats, GI Joe, transformers. Those were like to go to is when I was a kid kid.
These are Target exclusive from my understanding. That means it is hit or miss as I have been on their website to tell me none where available at any nearby location only to go to nearby location to find what was said they did not have.
I can't stop Reminisce about my Past. I loved Voltron Cartoons in the 80s since I was a Kid. I love the New Reissued Voltron Lions Toys. I'm glad they brought it back. It's Definitely a must have. Thanks Pixel Dan for the Info. 🤩😃😁👍👍
glad someone was able to do a comparison, I have the 2018 version and I wasn't 100% sure if they were the same (mostly the sounds) and I didn't want to pull mine down to check them
I used to watch Voltron when I was 2. I still remember seeing the Voltron toy in the Fred Savage movie Vice Versa. I saw a dicast Voltron at at Good Will in the early 1990s but I was still a kid and had no money. Before I die I want a fully formed Voltron figure, I just want to make sure it's the best one, and as far as tapping into my nostalgia for the show this could be it.
Love this set, they were so affordable for what you go before, I'm sure they cost a lot more this time around. I was able to get duplicates on clearance of all but Black and Yellow so I'm definitely going to pick those up.
I heard that the legs shaking problem is less in the newer version (the five separate boxes), specially when trying to stand the figure straight up. Is this true sir?
I'm super excited because my big bad toy store pre-order on this arrived last week and I shipped it out today along with a WWE Elite Bray Wyatt figure. I'm super geeked for it to arrive
Nice looking figure for the price. However, I can attest that the sound effects are not original voice actors from the show; they are clearly recreations.
Nostalgic things from old days that is the best types of toys like he-man or tmnt or voltron i really think a re-do of old toys is the best especially if your a fan of toys from the 90s
I was never a huge Voltron fan, but i always liked combining robots. Never had the toys but would love to find the set at the right price ar Ollies someday.
How much is this one going for? I love the Voltron robots, the Lion Force & The Mobile Force but at this point collecting has been difficult due the price tags on these gems.
I bought one in 2018 and have it built on my shelf. If I can get him cheap enough I will get him so I can do some custom paint work and have them as individual lions on my shelf. Hell I love the packaging so much I might get 2 sets. To keep one boxed, which I don’t usually do.
Lucked out years ago and found this on ebay in perfect condition minus the individual lions weapons. came with the blazing sword, and spinning cutter for 100$!! This version is dope just wish it was white.
My Voltron toy experience. Back when we got the diecast Voltron here in the states I was getting $5 a week in allowance. Voltron was $60 and I saved up for 12 weeks to get him. In that version the Red and Green lions used their tails to attach to the black lion. After a couple times of transforming him the retainer in the shoulder of the black lion broke and the tail of the red lion couldn't ever peg in again. Saved for 3 months and the toy broke in about a week.
I still have my original one I got for Xmas in '85. One ear is broke and both red fins are broke from my son playing with it, but it is still able to be separated and reassembled 39 years later
Saw all but the black lion at one of my targets this week. They’re in the collectors spot and not the toy aisles. My 2017 red Lion will not snap in to the black lion anymore. Not seeing anything wrong with them so not sure which lion is the issue. Half tempted to buy a new red Lion to see if he’s the problem. But might just display them in lion form with all their weapons attached.
Bought the first release, wish it was a tad smaller. It's just too big to play with, doesn't hold its own weight well and even with little playtime the joints has taken its toll and become terribly loose on mine.
I had the vintage green and red lion as a kid I never had the black lion or the other ones to make Voltron I wish I did and now it is something to get in to and yes I do remember the cartoon as well
I could’ve sworn my target store got them for the 35th anniversary in 2019 could just be my area getting these a year late to actually coincide with 35yrs and were their version of matty right I only had panosh place Voltron but I’m collecting them now
It's good to know anyone who missed out on Voltron has another chance at getting the old team. For some reason I think you're not pushing the connections fully in on the shoulders, they seem to stick out too far. If that's on purpose then I guess I'm barking up the wrong tree. Nice review overall, especially for anyone after information about the lion team.
The SOC Voltron is very nice, probably my favorite toy iteration. The price point is around $300. It has a nice transformation, very similar to the Matchbox figure with a better face sculpt and lions that are very poseable. It also comes with a slew of weapons for both Voltron and the lions as well as a weapons rack for them to be displayed upon. The Blitzway may be even nicer, but it's also more than twice as expensive. And I stand by the SOC also due to the fact that there is a SOC Vehicle Voltron in the same scale, which is great for display purposes.
Yeah this is a great Voltron for the money, i have the previous release I might pick this set up to display as the lions. But make sure you peg those arms all the way in they were not pushed in properly Dan on both of your Voltrons...
What about the one Wal-Mart released in December 2020. I'm guessing it's the same as well? All 5 lions came in one box for $59.97. Now the price is $109.99.
I went to three targets picking a few of the classic tmnts that i missed out on. I didn’t see one voltron lion. The hunt continues in Maryland. They dont even show up on the target app yet. I sold my previous set new in box years ago and kept the dreamworks lions. I am noticing the larger companies are releasing throwbacks with no updates maybe for business reasons and to get guaranteed money on older products. Which is good for classic toy collectors. Not so much for innovation though.

Same story as my experience. I was worried about being late to the party but reaped the clearance rewards this time.
The '84 Voltron set was being sold for $60 at Walmart 4 years ago 😮
I really wish I had picked them up years ago but I didn't have the money back then. Oh well.
You didn't peg the arms in all the way, that's why you were having trouble with the sound effects. Great, affordable Voltron!
I was wondering if Dan didn't plug them in right because those connections looked really loose
Oh Dan. Giving me anxiety for not able to peg that dang arms all the way in. Lol
Dan, You can just ship the new one to me since you already have it. 🤣🤣 Good review as always 🤘🤘

Happy 40th Anniversary to Voltron!
I wish they'd recreate the original diecast Voltron and put that out.
Yeah looking at these in person with the gray plastic when I'm so used to seeing diecast makes them look really cheap and crappy
Check out the Blitzway version of Voltron.
They been doing that for last 10 years , is 10x the price

I always loved how regal the black lion always is, in every iteration. And tbh blue lion is always the second best
Just picked these lions up. I'm very happy with them. Thanks for the video. Can't wait to meet you at Sarge and Reds
Yeah Dan you do, this is a reissue for those who couldn't get / complete it back in 2017.
Easter Egg… this is exactly how the lions were packaged back in the 80s when Matchbox released them.
What happened to your arm/hand? Wrestling getting rough?
Now I can buy the rest of the lions i could not afford in 2017, oh yeah! 🎉
I'm glad they're back! Thanks for the info D!

We need a voltron video game as well
somebody knows if this will be carried by AMazon, BBTS or Entertainment Earth for example?
I got him today from Target. And he’s glorious. I’ve never had a Voltron toy before and this guy fills the void my childhood had.
Which target?
I feel like a cool feature would’ve been for the add on pieces like the blades could combine to create the sword
