  • I took my Iver Johnson TP22 to the range, and video'ed shooting it at 3 yards at an IDPA target. I used CCI Mini mag 36grain HP load and shot 2 mags at a quick pace, under 12 seconds.

I bought one new in 1989. Still have it. Hasn’t worked since 1992. Will fire the first round and fail to eject. I can cycle 100 rounds of snap caps through it to this day, no problem. Yes the gun is hyper clean and fails just as bad with mini mag as anything else. I know the solution must be more powerful ammo, but the only level higher is hyper velocity at 1,400 plus per second. Any advice would be appreciated. A gunsmith would be a waste of money since it cycles flawlessly.

Shot mine yesterday, it's a lot of fun. 17lb trigger!

I bought this TP22 many years ago, when it was reviewed by Mas Ayoob, who recommended it as a back up, and to train with shots to the head. Currently they are not real easy to find, and do hold their value well. Thanks for watching, and your comments. Jon.

Good Lord, that would most certainly be lethal. 1 magazine of 7 rounds would put someone out of commision. With the speed of which you reloaded, you could have another mag good to go in 5 seconds! This is probably best suited to a BUG role, but for a little old lady or little old man who don't like recoil, thos is perfect! .22 LR is lethal and DOES have the energy to penetrate the skull. What a nice little pistol! :)

I have never experience slide bite from this pistol. It may, with a hasty grip, allow the fleshy part of the hand get up high near slide. However the rear part of grip curves outward a good bit and would seem to protect the hand. Thanks for watching, and your comments.

I just saw one in a gun shop for $125.00 looks pretty good, going to get it tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed that it works.

I would try to separate the problems. Feed issues could be a magazine problem. Try another mag if you have one. If not, they could be purchased, for around $25-$30 online. Ejection issues could be dirty chamber, or extractor? Or ammo could cause both problems. Some 22's, in my experience, are ammo sensitive. I use CCI mini-mags in my TP22, and Federal bulk 36 grain hp. Good luck on your experiment, and thanks for watching and comments

I know they are not easy to find. I am always on the lookout on Gunbrokerdotcom. but hardly ever see them, except with a pistol. I do know Erma and another maker, (that I don't recall at this time) sold these little pistols. and mags should interchange. Good luck, Jon.

same problem here. i can't shoot bulk out of mine without a strew of problems. tried cci stinger and it works fine, keep it as a center console pistol in the car.

@MrJmfitch Its rather small grip, and light recoil, seems to encourage one hand shooting., thanks for watching.

Awesome vid! The plastic on the bottom of the mag tends to break i guess so i really need a clip. Any idea as to where I can buy one? I'm having a hard time locating any! Thanks a lot! Good shooting!!!

Not much of a challenge at that range.
