Carried one as a boot gun for ten years myself. Only cleaned it two times and ran at least 5000 rounds through it over the years Finer pocket gun than most today
+ITHINKUREALESUK That's great to hear! I cleaned it really good as it was very dirty and I put thru 100 rounds of CCI Mini Mags and it was perfect. I love these oldies but goodies! Now I'm searching for some extra magazines, 3 of them will cost as much as the gun lol. Thanks for watching
Bought one of these for two wives in the 80's and 90's. Don't keep in touch much with the first but from what she says she's still using hers. Same for the second. Simple to operate, really safe to carry and quick to put into action. Both of those ladies were built smaller, so the trigger pull on the SA first round was pretty much all that was needed for a safety, but the manual safety was also intuitive so it was extremely safe for them to use. Had a really nice loud bark as well.
I have one and I love it. You can carry 7+1 without a problem. The safety is a hammer block. It prevents the hammer from striking the firing pin. I found that mine is very reliable with CCI Mini-Mag 40gr round nose. I just finished putting 100 rounds through it with NO issues. :)
That is a beautiful pistol. I've had mine for about 20 years and it's great. Iver Johnson was virtually synonymous with "Saturday Night Special", so I was stunned when friends recommended this .22 auto; it is far and above anything else Iver Johnson ever made. I have never had a feeding or ejecting problem because I always shoot hot loads. Friends have complained about jams with less hot ammo, so be aware of this. A super bargain at that price. The guys who were making fun of you have you-know-what for brains.
Thanks. I'm very happy with this gun and I feel I got a real bargain. I have shot it several times and with CCI ammunition it worked perfectly every time. Glad you are enjoying yours. Thanks for watching.
Joe LeClef good to hear you've had yours for a while too. This ol greybeard has had his for over 30 years and before these aged eyes started going south on me I could hit 6 out of 7 pop cans at 70 paces. Now days I'm haven trouble seeing the can well at the range. It still use my as a last ditch back up. stay safe keep warm have fun and whittle to keep your sanity ol greybeard dino
Carried one of these for back up for near 20 years. One of the first little pocket guns that has the firing pin block actuated by the trigger so carrying it with a loaded chamber is not a problem. Look for a copy of the manual on line it is very proud of the trigger block in it. I carried it in an ankle holster albeit with the safety on.
C. Sarver very interesting. I've really come to love this little gun a lot and I carry it a lot. As you saw I was new to the gun in the video but soon figured it out. Thanks for watching.
I love that little Iver Johnson pistol and have carried mine many times. The safety is very secure. Cock the hammer and look at the rear as you put on the safety. It rotates a block which prevents the hammer from hitting the firing pin. Hint: this also makes it hard to engage the safety when the hammer is fully dropped. The rotating safety block has to push the hammer back. You got a great deal and hopefully will enjoy this pistol very much.
Just bought one of these at a gun show here in FLA, $125 and already put 100 rounds, just needed oiling and cleaning. Accurate enough if for a boot gun and had too use up close. Like the feel as it is small but not lost in my hand as many small 22 Lr get lost.
I bought one of these brand new at Walmart 33 years ago for about $90. Still own it. It's a fun little gun. Got to keep the firing pin clean and well oiled or it will misfire. My biggest worry is the trigger guard is made out of plastic and mine has become brittle over time. Replacements guards are hard to find.
I bought a TP .22 Iver Johnson new back in the 80"s carried it so much in my back pocket the frame broke into and I loved this gun as a police officer I carried it for one of my back up guns I gave 150.00 new in ga. In the 80's does anyone know if someone else took over the company when Iver Johnson went out wonder if it had any kind of warranty to prevent my problem ? It's a great little gun !!
This Ivor Johnson TP22 as well as the ERMA EP552 is a copy of the Walther TPH, not PPK. Total length is 135 mm, hight 95 mm, width 23 mm, barrel length 71 mm. Just fired a few CCI .22 lr rounds with my ERMA EP552 S today, from 5 meter distance in my living room. Fired the rounds in to a 8 cm thick pack of Newspapers, the rounds penetrated approx. 4 cm deep in to the pack of Newspapers.
I purchased mine in 1991 but it's made by American arms which took over manufacturing after Iver Johnson went out of business.. drop dead accurate drop dead reliable.. no problems at all to you got to about 3oo to 400 rounds and it was real dirty.. it has a internal safety and will not fire unless the trigger is pulled.. even with hammer block safety off if dropped on the hammer will not go bang.. I still have my PX22 and will never sell it
It has an internal safety and will not fire unless you pull the trigger.. you can keep the hammer block safety off round in the chamber and hammer down and if dropped on the timer it will not go bang
I wish Iver Johnson still made those. that model also came in .25 acp. great little backup gun. I have been looking for one for years ditto the erma excam .22lr. a largr copy of the walther ppk.
I like your reviews sir, quite and informative, I'm pretty much like you have itch to old pistols and I collect as much as I could, this one definitely on my bucket list.
I had one 30 years ago they were recalled because of bad safety You could put the safety on squeeze the trigger 3 or 4 times in double action and it would fire
I shoot water bottle at 10 yards with mine, they are very very accurate in single action but you gotta clean them after every shooting or rounds will start sticking in the chamber.
If you put the clip in the safety will work fine. many have said that this little gun needs Hi-Power ammo to function properly. I have the exact piece and min works great with the normal Remington Standard Velocity ammo.
this was a copy of the Walther TPH and was made in germany for some time by Erma, then a deal got struck with IJ to make them here because they could not be imported. I dont think the whole gun was made here, I think part of it was made in germany ( importing parts is different than importing whole guns). nice little guns. too bad they are not still being made.
That is a very neat find ! I like clones myself and I am also a fan of .22 cal. They are just fun guns . I use my little one as something to help me get away . To stand ground it would be nicer to have something bigger . Like said . They are fun to have and shoot . Getting ammo is not as fun though . Thank you for sharing .
+MuzzleMike Yes, many people put down the lowly .22 but like you said, it has its place and time and is definitely FUN to shoot! This worked great at the range last night as I hoped it would. Thanks for watching my friend and stay warm and safe!
To be honest, I tend to forget that IJ is actually still around. I tend to remember them for their little top breaks from the turn of the century. I think they make 1911s and shotguns now.
+mark3smle I think this one was made in the 80s. It actually shot very well despite the super long trigger. I did see the top breaks you mentioned as I was looking for info on this, I might get one if I can find one in decent condition.
This pistol is so much like the Walther PPK that Walther sued them and won. It has been called an exact copy in miniature. I understand that the lawsuit put Iver-Johnson out of business. As of this writing sellers are asking about three hundred for them online, but they are uncommon on the market.
You are 100% correct. When I did the video it was literally my first time handling the gun so it took me some time to figure it out but that's what it is. Thanks for watching
My neighbor asked me to clean and look at his do to the hammer movement in the safe position. I have never handled one of this make before so I had to find out how to dismantle it. Your video was very helpful thanks.
I'm glad I can help, I learn so much from other channels so I started this channel to help others and pay it forward. Let me know when you shoot it, the double action pull is very heavy but surprisingly easy to shoot once you get used to it.
+The Daily Shooter Yes, lol,17lbs is crazy long but I was actually able to hit my target at 50 feet with it. The range I went to only let you shoot at 50 feet or more, which is definitely not what this gun is intended to do
I have one. It's a pot metal frame. That's what the discoloration is from. I had to replace the hammer spring (light strikes), but it's pretty reliable now as far as 22's go and very accurate. Hammer block safety. I carry it in a pocket holster.
My 22 same model won’t slide back the trigger guard is broken I meant it won’t slide forward it will shoot once and almost come off is it due to the trigger guard

You need to shoot hi perf 22LR ammo for reliability. Maybe 13 pounds trigger pull at double action...maybe 6 pounds single action. yes, very expensive to live around here. I literally spend many thousands per year at the shooting range. Looking forward to moving south this year and setting up my own range. The gun was made in the 80s from what I have been able to find out.
+latemetal1 Oddly enough, I was at a gun show and found a magazine for this pistol today...cheap too. So I'll be taking mine to the range to test the mag.
+HollowpointHP I was shocked too, although the trigger is soooo long it is like a 2 stage trigger so really was not that bad at all. I went to a range that only lets you shoot at 50 feet, which always pisses me off because I train for defensive shooting and 50 feet is not what this gun or most of my guns are meant for. Most guys who shoot there are so damn slow, like one shot every 30 seconds and than I come in a mag dump everything and get crazy looks, lol, too bad for them!
My 22 same model won’t slide back the trigger guard is broken I meant it won’t slide forward it will shoot once and almost come off is it due to the trigger guard

VERY COOL!!
+SSR KNIVES AND GUNS! Thanks buddy, its a fun little guy!
Wish we all had the luck u did. Congrats!
+John Meyer Thanks very much, good deals are out there but I very rarely find them. Thanks for watching.
Love mine.
Wht kind of ammo works for you mine tends to get alot of hickcups
have it ever misfire?
it runs good with CCI ammo only.
I have the same piece and it works well with CCI and Remington Standard Velocity. Never had a miss-fire or jam.

It's a 7 round magazine
i just got my first 25 iver johnson picket pistol last week. can u get mag with more in it or just 7?
+Justin Gower just 7 in the 22. Not sure about the 25 acp.
Only 7 in a 25
Mine is fun to shoot got mine for 50$ keep clean and oiled and you will have no problems
$129 at Walmart in 1984.
Danny McCune wow!
Another piece of history this is the gun that killed Robert Kennedy it’s worth alot to collectors now days rip to the Kennedy’s.
Actually Robert Kennedy was shot with an Iver Johnson .22LR revolver. Not the TP22. Close though...
My 22 same model won’t slide back the trigger guard is broken I meant it won’t slide forward it will shoot once and almost come off is it due to the trigger guard
:) Cool gun. it is very reminiscent of the P-64 too, love the design. Thanks for sharing.
+Fun & Family Channel Thanks, very much like the P-64, just smaller. I love that old classic style. Thanks!
