RH2RACING brought up a good point, 50/50 setups are out there. They let half the air to atmosphere and the other half recirculates so your ECU can still get an accurate reading. Turbosmart makes a good one! I think they're cool but they can get kind of annoying in my opinion but the HKS BOV is my favorite. Such a distinct sound and not too obnoxious
Cameron Alford I'm running the GFB hybrid. I have asked many people and also the map performance people and also the people that make the GFB Hybrids. From what I was told as long as you have a hybrid you will be ok as long as it is adjusted right
Love these short informational videos. I don't even drive a nice car or anything (hopefully that will change soon), it's just nice to know and learn about. Loving these videos a lot!
Thank you so much for explaining that in a way that even I can understand. The loop system really hit the head on the nail. I slapped one on and my car was doing this exact thing to a tee. Hooked the recirc back up and it ran fine. Getting a tune for the Bov soon!
The lean and rich conditions aren’t that horrible because it only happens when off the throttle so there’s barely any fuel going in, other than that it’s closed
This was very informative buuuuuuut I gotta run a blow off valve. Ran an hks on my bugeye and run one on my 2020 sti. The sound alone puts a smile on my face plus when I ride through town it's like a dinner bell. Everyone wants to run. I know they're counter productive but I love em.
Yup ran HKS SQV IV VTA on my 04 wrx and my new one.. have an AFR gauge before and after.. the afrs were actually better than the stock BPV i think it was leaking on my newer one because the afrs were dead perfect after i install the HKS one
I had a 2021 STI and I used the GFB BLOW OFF Without problems, no settings or custom programs, just replace and small setting in the spring and let's go!!! GBF the noises is really power full and no Air back to the turbo. That one come with a Manual or Electronic valve to control the recirculation
I've noticed that even with a 50/50 bov drive ability isn't 100 percent smooth.. the car will buck just a bit when getting back on the gas unless its an absolutely perfect shift. This is why I'm setting mine to full recirc. Too much of a pain.
Have a 08 wrx want a bov just so I can hear it. Leaving everything else stock only get high up in rpm once every blue moon. Just a daily driver that I can use to race my friends and want a bov so when doing casual driving can hear some turbo noises will I need to tune it? I plan on leaving it on long term but not doing anything else to the car.
That's what I hate about my 2018 STI I can't put a blowoff valve like u can do other Turbo cars. U have to spend like 2000 minimum to make it work. I really want to hear my Turbo 😞
gil Rivera put on a GFB Hybrid that's what I have and its 100% safe and you done need a tune. I can make it 5050 100% recirculate and 100% to atmosphere
Hey Cameron... my 2016 WRX is bone stock. I just ordered the Boomba BPV... is this the same as a blow off valve? I don’t wanna mess up my car, but people were suggesting the BPV cause it was cheaper and gave the turbo a nice flutter. Should I send the BPV back? Yes, I’m a girl... and I’m just trying to figure things out so I’m not an expert on every inch of my motor. Haha some help is appreciated! Thanks☺️
so thank you for this video ugh i just bought a 2018 wrx premium 6k miles... from my neighbor he can no longer drive due to old age so i got a deal. but i am new to this and well i kinda have a new car and want to have fun but not live under the hood. if you would be able to link some videos that would be amazing. but thank you for this video if anything.
Would be nice to get a follow up video on when an atmospheric blow off valve is preferable over the stock one (recirculated). This video ONLY mentions that most tuners can tune for an atmospheric blow off valve to work with a stock setup but doesn’t really address when atmospheric > recirculating blow off. Found my answer here: ua-cam.com/video/OKAb5zkJ9g8/v-deo.html
The behavior of an aftermarket bypass valve is identical to factory, so the only need for a re-tune is if you've got the vehicle tuned with an already leaking valve and are replacing it with one that does not leak.
So if i have a stock setup on my subaru sti 2016, i want to put a BOV but wasnt sure if i should or not, its really just for the noise , i dont want to build the car anytime soon just want the exhaust and the bov & would i need a tune?
Hey, maybe someone here will know. When I get to 4,000 rpm and I'm heavy on gas it (2005 tuned wrx) kind of bogs out. Turbo does spool if I go easy not sure if its spooling or not when that happens. Any clue if it may be my blow off valve, turbo, fuel injectors or what...? Hope someone can help. Thanks,
You get a upgraded downpipe you need a tune, you got a cold air intake you need a tune, you got a new blow off valve you'll also need a tune. Upgraded parts needs tune end of story
Im commenting pretty late but you should go for a hybrind one, diverter/blowoff valve. That way you get the sound you're looking for while also getting proper air circulation
RH2RACING brought up a good point, 50/50 setups are out there. They let half the air to atmosphere and the other half recirculates so your ECU can still get an accurate reading. Cameron Alford is there certain Cobb tunes that's you can use for one? I wanna get an sti in the future. Thanks!
Cameron Alford I'm running the GFB hybrid. I have asked many people and also the map performance people and also the people that make the GFB Hybrids. From what I was told as long as you have a hybrid you will be ok as long as it is adjusted right
I have it set to about 70% right now.
I just got the HKS BOV. It's the only thing I've modded to the car and I'm new to tuning. What map should I get to make it right?
So if I run a 50/50 do I still need a tune ? Or will I be fine since it’s also a bpv
For once some clean straight forward and short videos youtube. TOP quality hard to find on yt. Thanks
Thanks for recognizing! I strive for this!
Right before I found this video, I was watching two bumbling dummies that couldn't explain anything. Thanks so much. Fast and smooth.
same!! I’ve been watching these long 20 minute videos and I end up more confused than I started.
Love these short informational videos. I don't even drive a nice car or anything (hopefully that will change soon), it's just nice to know and learn about. Loving these videos a lot!

This cleared up all of my questions. So many thanks.

How is the car running a year after this post?

@@mustangsjp88still running good.
Did you need to install a tune for that bov?
Or you could use a bypass valve
Awesome to see a youtube creator from AZ! Love your content!

Thank you man!

Cameron Alford no. That’s not how any of that works.
😂😂😂😂
@Cameron Alford AMEN my Brother in Christ.
@@mrcontroversy222bro 🤣🤣😂
unless you have a hybrid of course. that's what I use on my ms3
True!! totally forgot to mention you can run 50/50 setups
@@CameronAlford rkx has a 75/25(75% recirculated) setup for like 50$

So basically tune ya car after the bov install right ?
Thank you for the explanation man. Really solid video
So glad I found this channel awhile back

I was this 👌🏽 close to buy a bov but my 20 wrx is stock 😭
informative and straight to the point! Thanks for the info bro

Will an accessport be a good enough tune for a BOV?
I got the same question? Tell me if you find an answer👍🏼
Y’all get the answer for this yet???
Without a tune, but with a recirculation kit, will you still get pops?
Hey Cameron... my 2016 WRX is bone stock. I just ordered the Boomba BPV... is this the same as a blow off valve? Kaylyn Collins yeah. Your car comes stock with a BPV. You’ll be good.
BPV is the same as stock. You did the right thing! If its super loud send me a video clip on instagram i'd love to hear it!! @cameronalford
Cameron Alford Awesome!!! Will do. Thanks!✊🏼
Great explanation! So with a stage 1 I can upgrade the bov on my 18’ STI
If your car holds in 1 second by accelerate and also makes a deep heavy whistle sound. Can it be failing or leaking bov ?
I saw the bypass valve is under the car and bov is on top of engine. Aren't they the same thing? Just operate differently?
So glad I subscribed to you. Found all the answers I needed in this video, thanks 🙏🏼
You could even get the turbosmart adjustable ones and just do like 5% vent
Great message. Thank you !!!
Finally the answer i was looking for thank u so much

If I do this to 2002 WRX am FORCED TO DO A TUNE?
Can you disconnect BOV? and not use it
That's why we have that called tuning pal
dude awesome fucking video. i run a blow through maf, a bov, and a tune and i have 0 issues. everyone on every sti forum acts like bovs are the devil.
I got a boost leak on my a4 cuh of a bov, next time I will tune it
How is the car now
Pikes peak tuner? You in springs or Denver?
Whats a ideal tune run these days?
Is it safe to use a blow off valve on a stock wrx like that being your first mod?? Because I wanna get that but I don’t know if it’s safe for the car
So can I put a aftermarket diverter valve on a stick wrx and have no problems?
If i run one will that damage my stock motor
So you have to get a tune in order for a bov ?
Can you run a bov if your cars not tuned but has a air intake
Thanks for the good info
Soo can i use Cobb Ap to run a BOV ??
Doesn’t the blow off valve releive back pressure for the turbo like what are you saying it’s bad
Look at chew doing things

I have a stock 17’ sti do you think I should get one just for the noice and yes I will be daily the car
Thanks this helped lot 🙏🏽
What kind of tune would i need if i wanted to install a bypass valve? Is it a Protune? Help lol
The behavior of an aftermarket bypass valve is identical to factory, so the only need for a re-tune is if you've got the vehicle tuned with an already leaking valve and are replacing it with one that does not leak.
So question if I did a BPV long term do you recommend a runner? Or is a BPV completely different
Great video keep up the great work I love your channel
Thank you George!!!
If I have my car wrx11 tuned with bov can I change it back to bpv In Anytime ??
Doesn’t HKS come with a recirculating kit?
What does recirculating kit mean?
Erick Pina it means ligma
Mikey G bruh 😂
Erick Pina haha but foreal recirculating reroutes discharged compressed air back into the intake
So if i have a stock setup on my subaru sti 2016, i want to put a BOV but wasnt sure if i should or not, its really just for the noise , i dont want to build the car anytime soon just want the exhaust and the bov & would i need a tune?
John Reyes add an intake and Downpipe with those mods and then get a tune. It’ll be worth it
Good content man! 👌🏻
So if I get a recirculation one from perrin i should be fine and not run lean/rich?
I'm wondering the same thing I was looking at perrin recirculating bov

Turbo upgrade w/ full turbo back exhaust, full tune.
Hey do you know we’re I can order a good vf 35 turbo
@Cameron Alford So if I run a GFB Hybrid BOV on a stock STI will I be fine?
I heard that if you're gonna run a BOV it's better to get rid of the maf sensor and run speed density instead
Bypass valve = Riceroni Batman
I like the music
Do you need a turbo for a blow off valve? Or run with a blow off Valve without turbo
🤦♂️
@@TheFF208 😂
Helpful video 👍
I have a 2011 wrx Subaru limited which bov would u recommend stock motor btw
we got the same car bro
That's true.
Speed density tune
4 year old video... And still schooling 🤙🏽
The only thing hes wrong about is that it will hurt your car to put a BOV on your wrx for just a day without a tune. Dont run BOV on these guy's
You get a upgraded downpipe you need a tune, you got a cold air intake you need a tune, you got a new blow off valve you'll also need a tune.
Upgraded parts needs tune end of story
Good info good video straight to the point with information.
Getting a tune...for a blow off valve. Lol. What is the world comin to?
What camera are you using?
Sony A7Rii w/ a 10-18mm and Rode Videomic Pro!!
if u are gona explain things by talking , why would u put a background music ? i couldnt listen just one word
The real answer is, only run a blowoff valve when you are using a Speed Density setup, and don't run run if you are using Mass Airflow. End of story.
Hey Cameron , would running a bov on a stock speed3 without a tune affect the engine ?
Im commenting pretty late but you should go for a hybrind one, diverter/blowoff valve. That way you get the sound you're looking for while also getting proper air circulation
