Just want to share a little experience with the community. Have a stage 1 MAPerformance with a few extra mods. Bought the TurboXS Hybrid 50/50. Installed it as shipped and couldn't be happier. Love it. My car is currently in the shop getting full Turbo back, TGV, EGR, TMIC and full stage 2 pro tune. Was called today and told the BPV is leaking and is a common problem during this upgrade. Stock BPV is the way to go. If I wanted that sound (because we know it does nothing for performance) then the Cobb BPV was the way to go. I was also told Boomba was garbage.
This video seems like a good idea, but useless when almost all the examples arent even a 2015+ WRX, some arent even subarus! I would really expect better from MAP
I was thinking the same thing only 15+ Rex and rest are older and he says easy installed lol yeah ok, my blow off valve is under car ain't that easy on 15+wrx
@@maperformance yeah it should but the positions of the bov are in two different locations. there is so much in the way of the fa20dit bov since its all the way in the front on the right and the ej is by the intercooler. so the sound isnt gonna be exactly the same due to not really being able to hear it. why not use idk a 2015+ WRX with these bov when you make a video for 2015+ wrx. would be nice if you tell people that most Subarus aren't designed to run a BOV and in fact you should be using a BPV. Can I also point out there one in the background is stock
THANK YOU!!! Someone who knows a little some thing. BOVs are never a good idea on a vehicle using a MAF. They cause all kinds of problems with fuel trim.
If you're mostly doing it for sound, why not just get an intake and at least get some performance out of it? Plus the turbo system uses a BPV that recirculates air back through the intake from the intercooler to keep the car from running too rich when you let off the throttle. An intake (I run the mishimoto race intake on my 16 STI with no air box since temps don't get that hot where I am) plus an accessport with the Cobb stage 1+ tune (which I run with no problems since the SF intake and mishimoto intake are nearly identical) is cheaper and less time consuming than paying a shop to get you a pro tune, which you really don't need unless you're planning on things for real power like E85, bigger turbo, etc. The intake sound is louder and sounds better IMO, just my 2 cents.
I have a muffle delete with big tips and I have the Perrin bov I cant hear if for shit if I have my windows or up! But if you focus on the “psshhhh” you’ll hear it , not too loud but the throttle is more responsive! From a scale 1-10 I give it a 7.5!
The shop that tuned my car to make 350whp on e85 with the stock recirc, was against gfb bovs or recircs. They did not like it. I had a buddy that bought a 2008 STI with an IAG stage 1 short block that failed withing 10k miles. It also was running a GFB BOV.... Now that might not be the reason for his failure BUT even the shop was surprised that the IAG motor failed so quickly.
Im pretty sure the fa20 dit motor uses a bypass valve not a blowoff valve. You can use a boomba bpv without a tune but to run a blow of valve that vents to atmosphere would require a pro tune. Imho I dont think it's worth running ANY BOV. I done see it adding much power if any. More likely to LOSE power. The best bpv is boomba hands down.
The FA20 does use a bpv, however adjustable ones like the gfb which comes in 100% bypass or fully adjustable are also able to be used. Boomba may be the most popular, but most tuners dont recommend it.
I highly recommend looking into the Forge bpv/bov. Extremely unique sound, flutters at low boost & sounds like a cross between the HKS & the GFB when you giver the beans
I have had the TurboXS RFL on my 11 WRX. You do have to tune VTA BOV to keep it from running rich...but I feel like it has a much better feel with turbo response without the recirc. Plus the sound is dope AF

Noises are great, but I'm for what works best in my (recirculation/closed) FA20 system...sure, dual is OK, but I don't want to run too rich. I'm looking for a fast responding, tunable, serviceable/rebuildable recirculation (Bov) valve. I haven't seen many tunable/serviceable recirc valves for the fa20; let alone the kits to add different springs. Any suggestions?
having vented HKS SSQVs forever it only runs basically a little rich between shifts.. Never had any issues other than that with my AFRS when i check.. HKS has a recirc kit included so no worries if you want that and it works under low and high boost no springs required
You’re gonna need a tune if you’re gonna put in a blow off valve. Also, if this is your only mod, you would get 0 hp gain from it. Probably even lose some power because air is vented instead of recirculated.
I would disagree - don't need to tune if you install a BOV. Won't run rich as the a/f ratio is only affected when the throttle is closed, no fuel being injected then anyway.
I own the 2015 wrx sti with the 2019 type uk ej257 short motor, i installed an HKS SSQV4 bov and it caused the car to run rich popping on throttle back off and all that wonderful stuff. Got recommended by the technician who fitted my new motor to map in any changes like bov valves from recircs' as it changes air to fuel ratios. Also if removing stock air box for k&n or similar cone type filter. something to do with the way the boxer engine injects its fuel in the inlet manifold and not direct injection. fa20 motor in 2021 motor apparently doesn't have this issue. this is just my experience and what i have been told by Subaru, could be different for you or your region. hope this sheds some light on your question. :)
You do not NEED to but it might run better and more efficiently with a tune, but if you buy one made for your vehicle. More than likely the default settings will be runnable👍 and some come with adjustable dials and some are preset how they are made to be as well
