That woman is a hero! Amazing, keeping her head in such an emergency is truly a skill. What a lucky and beautiful baby. I hope his parents are also ok as one can only imagine the trauma of having a newborn with medical issues

Thank God the woman knew CPR. In these stories the parents never seem to. We should be requiring parents to get a CPR course; it's unbelievable most don't take one.

I think it’s important to know she worked at Taco Bell and there are good people working in all kinds of jobs. Important people aren’t just in high level jobs. Becky Arbaugh is an important person.

HOSPITALS NEEDS TO ENSURE PARENTS WITH SMALL BABIES LIKE THIS KNOW WHAT TO DO IN THIS SITUATION. I have a 5 month old, she’s perfect now, but she was born 5 pounds, 6 oz. Their airways are so small that spit up/ vomit gets stuck! It’s scary, but i had to suck the stuff out of out of her nose. We had 5 of these incidents. I bought a hospital grade nose suction called the Nosebot for $100 bucks and I still use it to clear boogies when needed now that she’s big enough. But hospitals need to discharge mothers with instructions and tools for this stuff.
You’re assuming and don’t know the whole story. Myles has a Rare Genetic Disorder that we just discovered and this could have happened anywhere. He was fine until this Saturday.

My children and I mean my children all three of them had high fever seizures. They literally died and it was caused from either a ear infection or a throat infection and they started with the my my first child. She was only like six weeks old when she started having seizures, her body would go stiff and rigid, and just shaken Bounce it was very heart wrenching but it took a while to realize what was going on by the time she was four months old I knew exactly what was going on and I could call the doctor and say I believe Andrea is coming down with an ear infection and they were just send me the medication to the pharmacy and I go pick it up, so yeah, be careful watch out for high high fever seizures. They are very deadly and do not pour cold water on your baby, my story

Love this story, but I’m also so tired of hearing stories of parents that don’t know CPR. That should be required knowledge before you even take a baby home. I don’t even have kids and I’ve taken CPR classes at my local fire station.

Please get trained. Chest compressions are not the first thing you do if the problem is breathing. The heart will keep trying to pump even if you hold your breath, so the first thing is to make sure the baby is getting oxygen. Is it choking? If the airway is blocked, don't hold it with the head up; use gravity to see if something will fall out if you turn it face and head down. Since this is a very young baby, it could have spit-up, and I've read this can cause them to stop breathing, which is more of a neurological response to prevent drowning (water getting into the lungs); there might not be any object there. Rescue breathing might help restart the breath, or buy time to prevent brain damage until help gets there, assuming it is a breathing problem. Chest compressions are dangerous and may make things worse by damaging a heart that is already working. Please don't learn these techniques from comedy sketches, TV shows, clips, or movies. Get training. (I'm here today because my dad at a young age (5?) tried to sneak a watermelon pickle, and his dad picked him up by the ankles and shook it out. Heimlich maneuver wasn't discovered then, but sailors would put drowning victims "over a barrel" and roll them to simulate breathing and help remove water from the lungs.)

The mom chose not to learn CPR??? Who the fuck would opt NOT to learn basic life saving skills like that when they are introducing a child into the home!?!?
Most likely she does know CPR but when this happened she froze in fear! I know it's easy to say "I would've..."But I'm pretty sure that in that moment she freaked out.
