Casey, I don't comment too often, but this was fantastic. Great way to honor your grandfather. I'm sure he's smiling down on you as you adventure. Not to mention, nice truck!!!
Thank you. I”m glad you did decide to drop a comment. I think you’re right. He would be pretty happy with what his old truck looks like now. He would be pleased that it’s not too overdone. Cheers!
That's a great looking truck for being that aged. I had a 2001 GMC Sierra Z71 that I ended up putting 300k miles on and absolutely loved it. I then got a 2016 Jeep Wrangler Sport Unlimited, and 2 years later, went back to a 2016 Z71. Great choice! Glad you're keeping your Grandpa's legacy alive! He's looking down from heaven, smiling, I'm sure :)
This is the most underrated comment ever posted on a overland video! People lose the fact of what's needed and what's wanted and what's more important. I'd rather stay simple and hit more trails then do to much and hardly get out thinking I'm never ready.
Lo Lo Overland is some good dudes. Never met them myself, but I've heard nothing but great words about them. RIP to your Grandpa, beautiful part is he still lives through you. 🇺🇸
Nothing better than having things belonging to grandparents!!!! I'm sure he's looking down, enjoying what you did to his truck!!!! Look forward to seeing this build Casey.... Still the best channel in my opinion on UA-cam. Stay safe my friend.
No doubt that your grandpas spirit will be with you on all the adventures that you take this rig on! love the videos and have been watching since the days of the xterra.
this is awesome, I recently bought a 2004 GMC Sierra that I've been slowly building out to an overland/adventure rig. I also went with the Softopper so I'm excited to see how this will turn out long term. Cool to see people re-purposing used vehicles rather than spending a fortune buying something new.
Looking good. Love what they did to your coyote logo. Can hardly wait to see where you go on your first trip in your grandpa's truck now your truck. Be safe and God Bless. Out.
4th? Never been in this early! Great story behind the truck. I'm sure he'd be really glad to see you getting the use out of it and taking his memory on down the road with you.
The same reason Ill be working on a similar 01 , my wife’s grandfather passed and we decided wed try to buy it. He gave her a love for the outdoors, its nice to get it back in good shape
Awesome build, read every comment, I appreciate the easy mods anyone can do without breaking the bank. And those older trucks are bullet proof. Thank you and keep us posted on its performance.
I have the same sierra that I’ve spent some time building up as a road trip vehicle. Did a weeklong 2000 mile trip back in may. I plan to spend this winter building her up even more so I can do more trips in the spring and summer of 2023
It looks amazing Casey. Your grandpa would be so proud. I can’t wait to see this truck on the road and the adventures that you have in it. Great job to Lolo. Cheers my friend you did good kid lol
Excellent build! May the great memories of your grandfather live on forever. What an excellent project. Bravo!!! Time for an adventure!!! Coyote Works Rocks!!!
That came out looking pretty good. The plasti dip really made the front end look great. I like how it this build wasn't over the top, like you said its not a new rig, but your still inspiring others to get out and explore with what they may have. What a great way to keep your grandfathers spirit alive casey
Thank you my friend. That’s exactly what I was hoping for. It’s not a crazy high end truck and build for sure. But more than adequate for some awesome adventures!
Damn, what a transformation! Perfect for how you are planning to use it. A great example to show folks they do not need a new Power Wagon or Tremor to get out and explore the back country. Gotta say I really like the updated logo as well!
I think you feel that way because he actually is sitting there right beside you..I really believe that to be true. You are leaving him a great legacy with your respect for him.
I will for sure. I’m working on the video of my first overland/camping trip in it right now. After this i tidal trip I’ll make some adjustments to the load out and then I’ll do a video going over that. Cheers!
I’ve just inherited a 2003 Silverado Z71 that belonged to my wife’s grandfather I plan to get that truck back into fighting form just as you have. It’s a very nice thing you’ve done for that truck.
I have my great grandfathers 1990 Ford Ranger, it's my every day drive. Planning on fixing it up and having a little adventure with it. 1000 + miles trip, fingers crossed it can make it!
What a fantastic job Lol Overland did to your Grandpa's truck. 🤗👍 The decals and the special touches where so spot on perfect especially them adding your Grandpa's name to the Coyote Works Out on the back. The hood decal is so cool. Enjoy your travels, you will love Nevada and especially Utah. The beauty and the variety of the terrain in UT is breathtaking, one of my favorite states to be in. 🥰 Can't wait to see your journey!!! 😄👍
Awesome, my truck is 28 years old and we take it everywhere with our pop up truck camper. We drove it to Alaska a couple years ago, it sure is nice to still be able to work on something if you need to.
so clean .. perfect! nice new toy to play with, your grandpa will be happy about it, i mean, the way you will use this like tripping around the country, exploring and living your life. thumbs up from Italy, CW out!
Great video. I'm doing something similar with my grandfathers truck, which coincidentally is a 98 K1500. Researching that is what led me here, and now I feel that's a sign.
I had a 99 Chevy almost the same truck I bought it new and drove it to 284k miles lots of memories with my girlfriend now wife with camping and long road trips which you can’t beat the comfort. We both now have heavily modified JKUs but still miss the truck and it’s comfort
Grandpa’s truck with some of Casey’s sweet touches looks amazing! Your grandpa would be very happy with the changes and that his grandson got it back on the road. My grandpa had a old orchard Jeep (1942 Willy’s) I wish I still had it! 🍒 I’m excited to see the first overland in grandpa’s truck, ya best get goin’! 😁 God Bless!
It seems to me Vern was the inspiration for your love of exploring the out doors, hunting and firearms. !the truck was barely run in at 104,000 miles. In very good condition and your mates did you proud at the Auto Shop. Can't wait to see you take this special vehicle out in the snow for some camping and trails. Safe travel Casey.
WOW, TWO HUMANS TOUCHED EACH OTHER. I'm dreaming of the freedom day that everyone throws down the face diapers and in tears of love and gratitude turn to the nearest human and hug them. Fear controls, knowledge fees us.
LOVE IT! The 2/5" lift made all the difference. I can't help but think that a Leitner Designs Active Cargo System would go perfect with that truck and a Freespirit Recreation Adventure GS would be the cherry on top. Looking forward to your Overlands!
I have a lot of experience in wheeling a vehicle like this and have a couple things I’d still do. You’ll be surprised how much a locker will be needed. I spend a week in Death Valley every year in a tacoma and have used the rear locker a ton. One more thing is take out the front sway bar. It will feel tippy at first but you’ll get used to it. It will really help that truck out in the bumps. Trucks get stuck so much easier than your jeep would. Be super careful without rock sliders too. You will wreck your rear bumper before long too.
Appreciate the tips. Yeah it’s definitely not going to have the capability that my Jeep does but I am going to try to stay off the really extreme trails with it. I’ll keep my Jeep for that stuff mostly. Cheers!
Since I’m a truck guy, I’ve been looking forward to seeing this. EDIT: The truck is really, really well done. Two questions. 1. Did you do anything special to the engine and transmission besides PM items. 2. Have you ever thought about driving the ALCAN? The ALCAN has always intrigued me.
I'm doing an overland trip, Denver to AK in Aug/Sept 2022 - was supposed to do it this year, but a surgery came up and it's put off - Alaska ain't goin' nowhere. There are some good videos on driving the alcan, especially the past 2 or 3 years. I've been researching like crazy. It's gonna be good.
Thank you. I have not done anything to the engine or tranny yet. I’m hoping not too but I may see if there is a simple kit to make it breath a bit better and/or mod the exhaust. I don’t want to put a lot into the motor because I’m planning on doing an engine swap when this one wears out. I just want to get as many miles out of it as it is as I can. I’ve too always been intrigued by the ALCAN. Would definitely like to hit at least some part of it eventually. Cheers!
CW, this is exactly what I needed. I’ve been looking at teardrops and overlanding but I have an older 2005 Chevy Colorado that I’m unsure if I should invest in upgrading or if I should get a new truck. Thus certainly gives me a good argument to use my fully capable Z71. I’m going to reach out to your mod company and ask for further advice. Thanks again for sharing!
this is great simple , effective, and the big part is its affordable ! like the big dollar builds don't get me wrong they cool to look at but it nice to see videos of upgrades that we can all do thumbs up.
Yeah totally agree. It doesn’t take a lot to make a rig a bit cooler looking and increase its’ capability. A little can go a long ways. Nothing we did to the truck is really that expensive. But it all came together really nice and I’m really happy with the function. Cheers!
Like the "new" look of Granpa's truck. I'm anxious to see videos of your upcoming trips in it. I have a 2002 Silverado, same color with a pop-up camper.
It will do more off road than your giving it credit for. With the right tires it will do very well. I see people bang through Colorado on the rough high mountain trails. I've seen a similar trucks at 11,500+ feet up high in the mountains. Awesome vid thanks for sharing.
Your probably right. I just need to get it out in some rougher conditions and start to build my confidence in it’s abilities. I just know my Jeep so well and have had them in some really extreme terrain that I’m very familiar with exactly confident in what it can do. Cheers!
Had a 2000 Chevy Silverado same color and size that I had for 16 years. I loved that truck. It was very reliable except for eating power window motors and the rusted brake lines from being to big to park in my garage. Make sure you get those brake lines checked. Living here in Ohio that was bound to happen with all the snow and salt. Sold it to a friend of mine and it had around 145,000 miles on it and he is still driving it to this day. Also it helped that after having my brake lines replaced. I had them replace all the rubber hoses to the brakes with braided lines, it was worth the money .
Thanks for the tips on the brake lines. And good to hear you got so much good life out of that truck. I”m sitting a little over 100K on mine and hoping to get a few more years at least before I have to do a motor swap. Cheers!
Looks good! Just about right, not overkill. Looks a lot like my old pickup. 2003 GMC. 103,000 miles. If you have an open invite this year, it's what I'll bring.
My "newest" truck is a 2000 Z71 ext cab. I've owner newer trucks but I love the old GMT-400 and GMT-800 trucks. In my opinion the GMT-800 trucks with the LS based V8's are the best trucks ever made.
i have an '03 gmc 2500hd diesel similar with 8 ' box and spacekap canopy...just love going out adventuring with it...looking forward to your adventures with the 'new' rig !!!
Thanks my friend. Thanks for the tip . I’ll keep and eye on those corners. I’d actually like to get some mud flaps back on there to help keep some of the mud off the truck too. Cheers!
It's amazing how good a stock truck can be off-road, just with the right tries. One thing I like about your truck is, it's not overdone.
Thank you. Yeah I’m not into really building them. Basically I like to do as little as possible to make them a little more off road capable. Cheers!
Cheers!
Theirs something about an old truck that just feels right. Nice job Lolo. Looking forward to Grandpas truck adventures.
Man I agree. Your truck is looking bad ass too!
That's a great looking truck for being that aged. I had a 2001 GMC Sierra Z71 that I ended up putting 300k miles on and absolutely loved it. I love that they put your grandpa's name on the truck. Respect!
Me too. That is such a cool touch.
Definitely a perfect build that didn't go over board. It's all you need for overlanding 👍
For sure. It should give me a lot of miles of adventure just like it is! Cheers!

Great story, great build, great people. Thanks for putting this up, man. Good news for bad times.
For sure my friend. I’m really happy with how it came out. Worked out great on it’s first back country camping trip too. Cheers!
Awesome. Tasteful build. I had an 04 long-bed Silverado. Camping in the back was like an RV - bed, tables, cook in there. It was the bomb
Oh yeah I bet that was a great set up! Cheers!
I hope you do more follow up videos on gear ratio, lockers/limited slips, engine and upgrades, bedding and storage, etc. cool series.

i have an '03 gmc 2500hd diesel similar with 8 ' box and spacekap canopy...just love going out adventuring with it...looking forward to your adventures with the 'new' rig !!!
Thanks my friend. Yeah you have a great rig with that diesel!
Came out nice! Keep an eye on the cab corners, gravel might eat them up without the mud flaps.
Thanks my friend. Thanks for the tip . I’ll keep and eye on those corners. I’d actually like to get some mud flaps back on there to help keep some of the mud off the truck too. Cheers!
Just right!!! Awesome simple and another great video
