Got mine for my ram hauler after watching your review, love it, mounted it the same way, but it does move side to side slightly at the suction cup during sharp turns, have you had this problem yet?

Nice rig. I'm a ford guy. They all have their plusses and minises. If you're not going to use the back seats for passengers, take them out and take the plastic trim off the floor. Then put in a plywood floor. You'll have a ton more room for storage boxes, a creeper rack ECT for those thing that need to be warm and dry.

I run ram 5500 crane trucks for commercial food service work.. I love them I'm an inline motor guy all day
only reason I run rams..cummins or nothing for me..
I've got several mechanical 3500 12 valve service trucks still too but not crane bodies
they're my favs but getting hard to get parts to keep running them everyday
We do Commercial hvac, refrigeration, food machines, cooking equipment, ventilation, stainless work and pretty much anything restaurant related
But i grew up farming milo, cotton and corn
The thing that struck me so different about how our trucks are set up vs your heavy equipment service or mechanic work set up is the lack of parts
I totally get why of course
my trucks are full of tools but have a ton of parts also onboard to limit the downtime and back and forth
I never really thought about that before

I’m an electrical contractor in Texas. We’ve used Ford Superdutys since 1999. Powerstrokes. I bought my last new one in 2019. I’ve debated buying a new one but the prices now for a F350 XL is more than I paid for a loaded up Lariat back in 2019. I’ve shopped for a comparable Ram as well and I’m gettin too close to retirement to justify buying a new one. They’re both excellent trucks in the diesel service truck market. Congrats on your new ride. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

I have 2018 Ram 550. I am in northern California, with real mountains. This is the first auto shift trans I have owned, that coupled with the engine brake is beautiful for down hill control. The Cummins great for being able to pass on a river canyon road. I installed "Super Spring" "Sumo" anti sway cushions on drive axle, greatly improves cornering on windy roads. I removed the third seat and built a wood storage box and catch all tray {see Bill Covert service Truck tour].
I stick with two door cabs opting for bed length. Just personal, but my mind goes to removal of the useless rear seat and build some custom shelving and indoor storage.
I saw something amazing yesterday at logging conference Anderson Calif., that John Deere has a 20 liter, 800 hp engine that does not need aftertreatment, just hang a exhaust pipe and ready to go. Amazing.

Looks great. When I got my new truck in 2021 it took me an entire weekend to get it switched over. And I bet close to a year before I called it done. We had the new truck sitting there for awhile I actually kept putting it off because I knew how long it takes to fully get one swapped out

Congratulations on the new truck and crane! Needs a drawer unit on the pass side for the milwaukee tools, carrying allot of "air" in that cabinet. Another shelf for the narrow compartment on the pass side.. Put the oxy/acetyl tanks into the bed and gain that compartment space back. Plenty of room on top of the drivers side compartments for steel or diamond plate storage boxes that can be accessed from the bed. Pull the rear seat out if you need the cab space. Rear window gun rack for long tools. Bed should be wide enough for some semi-permanent cabinets or toolboxes with an aisle to access. Generator could even go above the pass side compartments in front of the crane rest point. We'll look forward to the second showing of the Dodge FAV after the spring refinements!

Also, get a pair of alum or steel or poly plates as outrigger bases. Those small ones will divot blacktop and easily sink into soil. Need to spread the load.

Congratulations on your new ride. I am a Cummins fan. It will treat you well. The wiring harness should go to connectors under the hood on the left side hood hinge area. They work with your switches on your dash for accessories to operate on the outside like led beacons or auxiliary work lights for example. Good luck.

    Most interesting video.
Congratulations on your new truck. You are most deserving. Beauty of a truck and work bed. Nice ZK.
You asked about brands. My opinion is Dodge Ram first and second would be Ford. Just my opinion is all.
Switching from one truck to another is a really BIG job. Not an easy one to do. You have all your special tools to fit into the new truck. Not so easy. Will take time but you will get it done knowing you.
Love all the options you have. The crane will be so nice. Enjoy the new truck. You are most definitely deserving.

One thing I wish I have is an enclosed bed with retractable top keeping things out to the weather especially in the north east here . One thing I think I’m going to invest in is a knack jobsite box for the bed to store the lose items in and keep out of the weather and secure! Thanks for sharing 👍

We also got the 2023 Ram 5500, with an 11' Harbor service body bed, no crane since we do plumbing, we had a welder do a giant 25' pipe rack and a front bumper which was a pain to find, ended going with fab fours as i had used them in the past. I tried keeping a generator like yours but then switched over to a 5000w inverter in the truck, way better and easier than keeping gas. Just wire into switched B+ so it turns off with the truck. Nothing worse than trying to jump on off because you left the inverter on.

With a truck like that, Sloan will want you to do more out in the field!! :) Now all you need is a Miller or Lincoln welder!! Stay safe out there!!

Congratulations. I love my Stellar TMax 2-11 service body mounted on a Peterbilt 337 with a 12K crane. Stellar offers bolt on boxes that mount on top of the body in the T track rails that match the service body for more storage. They also have a bolt bin that fits nicely in the first cabinet next to the tool box. A little advice always use those out riggers and the door cabinet handles will fold down in the open position so they dont knock into the other doors and you can still close the doors with out having to turn the handles. You will love having that crane dont know how you did before without it.

Great video. I'm a bit late to the party here, but I can think of 2 upgrades you probably should consider. First is picking up some ground mats for under the outriggers (to spread the load out), along with a couple more heavy blocks that can support things if you need to do crane work on unlevel ground. Second, I've seen some pretty nice crane boom tip light accessories on service trucks. These can help in lighting what you are lifting, or just for providing area light from a higher angle when working in a dim area. Enjoy your new truck!

Be careful/weary of the crane box. It will be the first box to get water in it. Hole in the base of the crane and another big one just under the shelf where the hoses pass through where the outrigger hoses pass through. Wheel throws water in there. That box is good for your rigging and other stuff that can get wet.

To bad they did not put slide steps under the box, works for steps and a place set things while working. Need to see how much it would cost to go to super single tires, duallies tend to get stuff stuck between tires off road. I would fin one of the chargeble portable fridges and take out the back seat and also put in a micromave, sure nice to have a snack option on the long days. A front brush guard would make the truck nicer looking and can also be used for a winch.

Hi Zeth! Awesome new service rig, you deserve it! I've been a Ford truck guy my whole life and the company I work for has an all Ford fleet as well. My experiences with Ram trucks didn't go well at my previous employer, too many electrical and transmission issues, they eventually stopped purchasing Ram trucks and switched to Chevrolet-GMC. They had some of the early Duramax engines (2001-2002) which had head gasket and fuel injector issues but by the mid 2000's they were really well sorted out. Other than the DOD-AFM debacle they had in the late 2000’s-early 2010s they were pretty reliable. The Fords where I work now have been mostly reliable. We’ve had a few minor transmission niggles with the 10-speeds but nothing severe. We have several F150s with the 3.5L ecoboost V6 engines which are absolute rocket ships and will pull like a mule all day long. I know they get a lot of flack for being turboed but knock on wood, we’ve never replaced a turbo in all the years we’ve had them. The 6.7 power stroke engines have been solid in our super duties as well. It comes down anymore to who has the truck with the required specs available when needed for the best price. I assume Sloan Imp purchased the truck without consulting you about your brand preference? At any rate, thanks for the tour, I know you’ll get lots of use out of it and hopefully many satisfied customers as well! 😉

Good place for the generator would be to but it on top beside the air compressor, if you don’t use it very often can get a tool box that’s water proof and put it in their up top

I just purchased a Chevrolet 2500 Crew Cab with a Knapheide 8 foot service body. It's a pain in the butt to switch everything over. You have about 10 times more than I did to transfer.

You can fit a lot more in it that way but I cannot do it myself I have to have locations for every ratchet and extension so I can easily identify if I’m missing something … idk how you manage it but def get a lot more per drawer

Congrats on your new truck! Seeing you have so much stuff in your back seat I would window tilt the heck of the windows, to many people that will steal anything of value. Do you have to lock each door by itself or is there a master lock that locks them all? On our service truck we had a cool set up with 10 hp motor it ran the air compressor and generator. It works well. But with your generator it’s more mobile where we had long cables. And your right it a pile of work swapping tools and ect… from old truck to new truck! Specially if Your fussy just like I was as well. Very cool video Zeth! Enjoy your new rig!!

Mount your generator up top. And run a remote cable/ignition inside one of your compartments. The ignition and start key is remote mounted inside one of my compartments in my service truck

Pertaining to the cargo compartment put everything on a pallet and use the crane to pull everything off at once to get to access your many boxes.

The one thing I can think of is to add, LED Light strips in the cabinets, with magnetic switches to come on when open. and give you a great deal of light when looking for tools.

If you remove the rear seats can you get the Pack Outs in side by side? Seems like a lot of wasted space where you have your Milwaukee stuff maybe get another shelf in there. If you don’t want your generator in the weather see if you can find a weather tight container to stow it in. Nice truck, I’m sure it’s going to take some using for a while before you figure out where you want everything.

I would say Chevy is the best one Chevrolet has the best transmission, but the Dodge Cummins is a good engine. You master the power between a Cummins engine and a Chevrolet Allison transmission. You have yourself a hell of a truck.

I love the stellar bodies but the IMT bodies work bench is far better I have a f550 and I love it but ima say the ram is probably easier to work on the engine bay on a f550 is jam packed!! lol and you never stop re organizing your truck it’s a for ever battle. And just a word of advice I was told never to run your crane without your stabilizers out you will twist the frame. But awesome set up I like the Milwaukee cabinet you should do a vid of how you have it set up in detail and where you got some of it.

    Wow...that is a beauty!
Have you considered installing some thin sheet metal on the doors to have something to magnetically stick things on?
Don't forget to remove the protective film from the camera lens :)

I’ve had a stellar tmax 3 body on a kw T270 for six years working on construction equipment. That crane will be your third hand. Any service truck is worth its weight in gold. I currently weigh in at 24000 lbs. I’m curious you should weigh in… bet you’d be surprised, may be overweight. But nevertheless sweet ride!!

Working on a 96 Chevy C3500HD which would be an equivalent 15k truck. We are mid project. It is a stretched frame crew cab swap. Cummins 12 valve with P Pump (cable shut off) NV4500 5 speed with 241DHD transfer case. These were never 4wd so we are solid front axle swapping with a 2002 Ford Dana 60. She’s got 19.5 load range H tires. There is no computer, can roll down a hill to start so is the ultimate zombie apocalypse service truck. Hope to finish by planting!

Hi Zeth...boy and I thought moving home was tough. Great truck, and you deserve it. However, if I were you, I tear the rear seats and give myself a whole world of extra storage room for ones tools, especially the Milwaukee boxes. I mean, how often are you likely to be putting humans behind ya when out and about on jobs! Like so many things considered improvements in todays world, so many fall down on the small common sense touches. Yup, I think it's called... form over function. Luv ya guys KTGIM. J, U.K

I drive an ‘18 Ford 550 with a knapheide fully enclosed bed with 3200lbs crane, not the most reliable truck, but no modern truck is anymore. My very first service truck was a 2009 Chevy 3500 with a tool bed, I was the third or fourth user, it had 280k miles and was fully deleted and ran like a raped ape, company sold it when it hit 350k miles. You have an awesome truck though.

I think the best truck to have strongly depends on your dealer support.
We have been running fords for years but the local ford dealer doesn’t like to service the 550’s for some reason. So all of our newest trucks are rams.
