Great work. I recommend suspending the brake caliper by a wire or cord through a mounting bolt hole and any point above, maybe the strut spring. Just don't hang it by the brake hose. Otherwise pretty good video. Thank you!
To separate a ball joint all you need is a BIG prybar and a big hammer. Use the prybar to apply separating pressure to the tie rod end or lower control arm. Then with the hammer you will smack the knuckle, right next to where the ball joint goes through it. To be clear, you will be swinging the hammer sideways; not up or down. And you hit it HARD! That’s how we always did it at the transmission shop. Also, you can hand tighten a lug nut against the rotor before installing the brake hardware.
255 Sol thanks I really try to be as detailed as possible because too many times I see videos here and while they can get you through most stuff, they aren’t as detailed as they could be. Thanks very much! I’m glad the video helped you.
Excellent tutorial, very well put together and concise. I'd like to know a couple things about the axle nut: 1. There is a beveled edge to the nut near the threads, do I pry that out before attempting to loosen or will it just straighten itself out without damaging the threads? 2. When I put it back together will that bevel need to be remade?
j2d2 Yes there is an edge that is usually hit into a notch near the end of the cv axle as you can probably see. Take a flat head screwdriver and hit it up into that notch to raise the nut up out of that notch as best you can. Then loosen the nut. It won’t damage the threads even if you leave it how it is. Upon reinstalling the nut, hit a new dent into the nut again.
Everything went fine the only I had trouble with was making a new dent in the edge on the final step. Instead of making the dent I was damaging the nut, so I left it just really snugged and tight. Didn’t make the new dent though I hope there won’t be issues. Everything went ok thought drives ok and great now thanks.
Wish I could show you a pic of how it looks. I’m just afraid of damaging it as I don’t know how to hit it in without damaging it. The flat head was actually penetrating through the nut instead of making a dent. Probably just a cheap axle nut ? I really did try to do it. Will they’ll be issues if I leave it like that ?
Another important note. Will I need an alignment after this ? I been driving it around and nothing seems unusual so far. That ugly noise is gone now and yeah sure what’s your email. ?

Leonardo Garcia Yes you can. Lower the car back to the ground. Not all the way down on the ground. Just lower the jack enough for the wheel not to spin while you tighten it. You don’t want to lower the car all the way down without tightening the nut because it damages the wheel bearing.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair Ok thanks! I'm doing this today on thanksgiving and no shops were open so i left the car in the air with the spindle off. THE WORD OF GOD PREDICTED THE MESS THE WORLD IS IN THESE DAYS! IT IS TIME FOR AN ETERNAL COMMITMENT: THINGS ARE ONLY GOING TO GET WORSE; we are near or already in the time of Tribulation, as described in the Holy Bible's books of: Daniel 7-12, Luke 17, 21, Matthew 24, Mark 13, Revelation 4-21, Isaiah 2, etc, etc. [Matthew 24:7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes."] We are seeing: massive deception, unchecked amounts of blasphemy, self-loving perverts allowed to murder babies, perverts indoctrinating little children, perverts drawing little children into their godless obscenities, treasonous and depraved men running the world, most world leaders in the process of ushering in the NWO, lawlessness, the depraved and perverted legally protected, orchestrated crisis used to destabilize nations, laws enacted to aid the ungodly and to terrorize the righteous, perverts ransacking our nation, wars and rumors of wars, gross climatic changes, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, fires, volcanic eruptions, signs in the sky, the persecution of Christians, a mass-exodus of false-Christians from the church, and all of the usual world problems happening in greater number and magnitude than ever before. We are also witnessing the rise of the kingdom of the Antichrist(NWO); he will pretend to be the savior of the world, however, after 3 and 1/2 years of rule he will unleash all hell upon the Earth. His kingdom will consist of a: One world religion, One world government, and One world monetary system; all of these have been predicted within the Holy Bible, thousands of years ago. WHY IS THERE SIN IN THE WORLD? In the beginning God made the world perfect and free of sin. He gave the world to our forefathers, Adam and Eve, as a love gift. Adam and Eve sinned and gave the world over to Satan. Since then all of mankind has been born in sin and subjects of Satan, with a one-way ticket to everlasting-hell. WHAT CAN BE DONE ABOUT IT? There is nothing that can be done for the world at large, the world will continue on getting worse, and the right judgment of God will be unleashed in an ever increasing manner, a manner that only the repentant and forgiven person will be able to endure. HAVING YOUR SINS FORGIVEN, AND TO BE RECONCILED TO GOD, nothing can be done for the world, however, individual persons may experience forgiveness from God. If you have a desire for God's forgiveness, God is already at work in you. [ There is nothing you can DO(WORK) to be saved. If God gives you faith, you may plead for salvation in the name of Jesus Christ. "What is impossible for men is possible in God." All those that come to Him will in noway be rejected. ] Jesus Christ said, not only that, "I'm the way, the truth and the life, and no one can come to the Father but by me.", Christ also said that, "NO ONE can come to Me unless the Father draws him." --obviously, if both of these are true, no one can will themselves to believe. God must first attract the sinner towards Christ in order to be saved. Salvation from sins and true transformation comes when your sins have been forgiven, if you feel led to do so, plead for God's mercy, in the name of Jesus Christ to save you from your sins, and wait for His response --Christ said that, 'if you ask you will receive'. Forgiveness and restoration with God comes through Christ's work and payment of sins upon a cross, Jesus is the only one that did the work for our salvation --This forgiveness is for all those that will come to believe in Him. THE HOLY SPIRIT COMES AND GOES AS HE WILLS, and so it is with salvation, because it's an act that is carried out by the Spirit. --John 14:6 [ Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me." ] --Acts 4:12 [ "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name(Jesus Christ) under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!” ] Knowing that the penalty for sin is death(eternal torment in a Lake of Fire); the Bible states, -- Rom 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.", and that we all have sinned, --Rom --3:23-- "for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God", God's method of salvation is a work of the Holy Spirit of God, purchased through the death of Jesus Christ, --John 3:8 "The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.”, and as it is with the wind, the Spirit will come on the repentant sinner, when God draws that sinner to His Son Jesus Christ, --John 6:44 "No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him; and I will raise him up in the last day.". All a person can do is to plead for God's mercy, as in -- Luke 18:13 "And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.".

HH, I took everything apart this afternoon, this video was priceless... camera work was just right. Went fast with a battery impact driver. The most difficult part for me was knowing when I had the axle nut detente out ... Question for when I put her back together tomorrow...Do you have to do anything to the axle boot to get it to seat back into place?.
chex313 Just slide it into the hub. When you tighten up the axle but to the correct torque it will pull the axle into the correct location all on its own.
Victor Andrade You could buy new knuckles from Toyota that will not come with hubs or bearings in them. So then you would still need them pressed in. Really doesn’t make sense. Not to mention the knuckles are $210 each. Makes more sense to just replace the bearing and hub.
I swear this car keeps getting more and more expensive for me. I have an original 2005 and my rear bearing failed this week. I gotta pay someone $500 to fix it this weekend. I had the front bearings replaced already. What is wrong with this car? :(
Over 160,000 now. Had it since Dec 2004 because I was one of the first to order the tC in the US. Recently, I have replaced brake pads, rotors, already replaced all the rims, had a flat last year I had plugged, the antenna is destroyed ($16 fix), paint still pretty good (I wash it weekly), inside looks new still, but these wheel bearings cost a ton. And it's mostly labor which makes me mad but I don't have the tools or space to even attempt something like this. Good video though! :)
TraumaER Well 160k Miles is where bearings will start to fail. There really is no set point where bearings fail but if the car is driven everyday or fairly frequently then they will wear.
Thanks for the info. I just hope that's all they find this weekend. And I hope its not more than $500. These repairs add up and make me wonder why I even bother driving this car anymore. I plan to get a new SUV soon. Thinking of Nissan Rogue. What are your thoughts? (planning to keep my tC forever until it completely fails as a 2nd car).
TraumaER I honestly would have tried to do the rear bearings yourself. $500 is pricey but I am sure that’s the going rate. However I’m sure they are overcharging you. I personally like scion and Toyota products. They are usually very good cars that will last you a long time when taken care of. If you have owned it since new I would say it’s doing a good job. You are complaining mostly about “wear items.” These things aren’t designed to last forever (brakes, wheel bearings, tires, oil, etc.) I’d say you have a solid car that you seem to love and take care of. It hasn’t had anything major fail (transmission issues or engine failure) so if I were you I would just keep on driving it and stay away from a car payment. I personally don’t like any new nissans. Transmission issues are becoming more common now as the years go on. I had a 2014 Versa with a failing transmission just last week. Car only had 74k miles on it. Not to say they ALL will fail but I just don’t like nissans.

Also should i use a different Axle nut that came with the hub or use the same one. The old one has an arrow for the beveled edge but the new one doesn't. Will it hurt if i dont punch it back in in the edge and just leave it tight? It was a pain bringing that edge up enough for the nut to come out. I'll add that your video has saved me $885 From a shop quote and a family member thinks I'm a pro at what im doing but i gave the whole credit to your video. Thanks so much.!
Leonardo Garcia use the new nut that came with it. Punch the edge when you have it tight so it doesn’t back out. I’m glad you were able to save money! That’s the goal of this channel.
[Matthew 24:7 "For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes."]
We are seeing: massive deception, unchecked amounts of blasphemy, self-loving perverts allowed to murder babies, perverts indoctrinating little children, perverts drawing little children into their godless obscenities, treasonous and depraved men running the world, most world leaders in the process of ushering in the NWO, lawlessness, the depraved and perverted legally protected, orchestrated crisis used to destabilize nations, laws enacted to aid the ungodly and to terrorize the righteous, perverts ransacking our nation, wars and rumors of wars, gross climatic changes, famines, pestilences, earthquakes, fires, volcanic eruptions, signs in the sky, the persecution of Christians, a mass-exodus of false-Christians from the church, and all of the usual world problems happening in greater number and magnitude than ever before.
Jesus Christ said, not only that, "I'm the way, the truth and the life, and no one can come to the Father but by me.", Christ also said that, "NO ONE can come to Me unless the Father draws him." --obviously, if both of these are true, no one can will themselves to believe.
No one comes to the Father, except through me." ]
--Acts 4:12 [ "There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name(Jesus Christ) under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved!” ]
Knowing that the penalty for sin is death(eternal torment in a Lake of Fire); the Bible states, -- Rom 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.", and that we all have sinned, --Rom --3:23-- "for all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God", God's method of salvation is a work of the Holy Spirit of God, purchased through the death of Jesus Christ, --John 3:8 "The wind blows where it wants to, and you hear its sound, but don’t know where it comes from and where it is going.
While I appreciate your effort. Why not put that effort towards making videos? You don’t have any videos posted.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair Thank you brother for your encouragement. I'll give this thought and prayer. God bless you. Again, your video presentation was excellent.
Very good word thank you for taking the time to post that for everyone 🙏
On a 07 tc when turning and it makes a nosie is it the CV boot/ joints?
Depending on what noise it makes. If it makes like a fast clicking noise when turning hard right or left while accelerating then yes the out CV joints are bad.
The tie rod end with the Cotter pin... each end of the cotter pin has broken off and I can’t get it to turn even with an impact and lots of penetrating fluid. What should I do?
So the cotter pin is stuck in the middle of the bolt? You should have tried to fish out the broken cotter pin first. Then try loosening up the bolt.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair alright thanks, I got this side finally, but the other side the castle nut has like fused to the bolt for the tie rod end so I’m going to cut the castle nut off. I broke it loose and they spin together now the bolt from the tie rod end is loose, so I need to replace the tie rod end?
Yep. Just get a nut splitter (literally breaks nuts) and that will make it easy to get the nut off as it will just split it in half.
HH, I took everything apart this afternoon, this video was priceless... camera work was just right. Went fast with a battery impact driver. The most difficult part for me was knowing when I had the axle nut detente out ...
Question for when I put her back together tomorrow...Do you have to do anything to the axle boot to get it to seat back into place?.
chex313 As far as the axle going back into the transmission? Or the outer joint back into the hub?
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair The axle back into the hub , does it just pop into place or do need to check it , to make sure it's snug
chex313 Just slide it into the hub. When you tighten up the axle but to the correct torque it will pull the axle into the correct location all on its own.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair Thank you sir
chex313 fasho 👌🏽
subcribed... what camera do you use to record?
ToshiSate81 Canon Eos T6i
Can you tell me if this is for a 2013 Sion Tc the same way
zilfrith maduro The generations are different but essentially it’s the same process.
@@HelpingHandAutoRepair thanks for the info
Can you just replace the whole hub assembly and not have to worry about having a bearing pressed in? Thanks!
Victor Andrade You could buy new knuckles from Toyota that will not come with hubs or bearings in them. So then you would still need them pressed in. Really doesn’t make sense. Not to mention the knuckles are $210 each.
Makes more sense to just replace the bearing and hub.
Should be up to 2010; 2011 hub/assembly is a bolted one. Not necessary to take the knuckle off
guy delorme Yes I wasn’t sure if all the years since I’ve only worked on this 2005 model. I will change the title sir! Thanks for the information.
Helping Hand Auto Repair I'm glad you removed everything. I needed to know and it only helps
No tool list?
Nope. I just state what’s needed as I remove the fasteners.
Basically if u want to do this, the whole suspension and brakes have to come off........
Nope just the knuckle has to come off the car.
I swear this car keeps getting more and more expensive for me. I have an original 2005 and my rear bearing failed this week. I gotta pay someone $500 to fix it this weekend. I had the front bearings replaced already. What is wrong with this car?
:(
TraumaER how many miles on the car?
Turn the nut loose a little bit on the ball joint and then smack it with a hammer no need for that tool
I’ve done ball joints that way too. Plenty of ways and tools to do it.
This video is about removing not fixing 😂😂
Well the title does say replacement
