  • Let's talk about paphs and viruses. It seems there is some who believe that Paphs specifically can't get or carry viruses. Is this true? Should we all be only growing paphs? What's up with this?
I review two scholarly articles that specifically mention paphiopedilum orchids. This is my understanding and reaction to theses articles in regards to a viewers question.

Nice subject, thanks for all the research on the matter. What I also do not get is if people leave a comment like that, why they do not bother to explain them selves. If questions are asked on forums that’s usually because someone would like more information on the subject. Anyhow you did give that and shared it with us all, big thanks ❤

There's an orchid tour of Longwood Gardens in PA and in the video it was mentioned that viruses can be eliminated through tissue culture or cloning?

I suppose that could be, using tissue cultures to help mitigate viral infection in orchids. I don’t believe that viruses can be eliminated, in the strictest definition of elimination. Viruses will always exist, and are they testing the “donor plants “? The peer reviewed scientific article I’m talking about clearly states that viruses orchids are being cloned, and that is a vector for transmission of the virus. Kinda scary stuff Thank you 🙏 for watching.

I've got a large multi floral that has some rust colored spots...not really spots . otherwise it's healthy. 16" wing span with 2;same size fans

I’ve a couple seedling paphs I bought from a local nursery with that. Looks like a dusting of rust in a spot here or there. These seedlings don’t seem to be as vigorous as others of similar sizes. As a matter of fact, one of them just died, the leaves with the spots started to turn leathery brown and with in a few weeks, dead.

Question is what can we do about it?

That’s a great question. One without any easy answers
