They sound nearly identical. But at the end i like the 245 S PUs a bit more, more dark and warm. I have some Videos on here comparing them to other PUs as well. BTW like the Bridge of the newer 245 SE Models, i have a 2015 one with the old Bridge without individual saddles.
I found the PAF Master neck to be superior, but honestly, I kind of liked the S bridge better in these tests too. Not enough of a difference to switch back, I’m happy enough
Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. I recently purchased a SE Zach Myers and really liked the 245 humbuckers in it and wanted something similar for my S2 Mira. I think I've found it :)
Metal playing showed PAF’s to be more articulate while other tests showed the PAF’s to have a bigger, more open sound as well. Nothing wrong with the 245S-the PAF Masters just outshine them in this guitar. Excellent comparison.
Thank you!! The PRS pickups, they really didn’t need replaced. They were almost as good. That being said, of course the DiMarzios just offer that extra somethin somethin
Very well done video! The PAF Masters are a definite upgrade, IMO. I will say though that PRS’ import pickups are surprisingly good. Got yourself a new sub, buddy! Good stuff!
I have a Zach Myers with the same 245 "s" pickups. They sound great but a good set of aftermarket ones like your PAF Master's, they sound kind of similar but seem to have more frequencies while the stock ones lose a bit of definition. A slight boost helps too, but I feel the top end of the 245's are a bit lacking and need some help. The split coil sounds were interesting. Mine doesn't have that feature, adds a lot of versatility. For some reason I thought my 245 "s" pickups weren't 4 wire ones. Just checked on Reverb and they should be lol.
Great review, great tones, and great playing 👍 I just ordered a new 245se in charcoal grey that I’ll be doing a review on soon! I’m excited to play it. I already have a CE
Thanks for this methodical demo. It's very helpful, and the only online guidance I could find about how my 245 "S" pickups would sound if I wired them for coil splits.
Great video! I have bought that same guitar with the intentions of putting new pickups in it, before I even heard it. Then I bought a Zach Myers to to the same thing with. I'm going with either the Seymour Duncan Antiquity Humbuckers or the Seth Lover Humbuckers for the ZM and can't decide on the SE Standard. This is a great example. Thanks!
I purchased a Zach Myers with Antiquities in it and purchased the stock 245s pickups to put back in it and it sounds way better. I'm not sure if it's the semi hollow body or what, but I do not find that the Antiquities work well in it. I know it's personal test, but that was what I found to be the case for me. But, I do honestly really like the 245s pickups.
Hey! I hope you're doing well! I would like to know what you think after changing the pickups, what you consider that was an improvement and things like this. Also, did you feel any loss of sustain? I saw a video where someone complained about losing sustain after swapping the original pickups for a dimarzio paf 36th
very similar. people that say the PRS is shit and 'need' changing - well thats just crap. they both sound great. u can EQ the difference and theres barely any. def not worth spending like $300 to change the pups
Hi. Nice video. Can you please tell me if the cream in the Dimarzio zebra matches the PRS rings? I was going to switch to black because I am concerned it won’t match. I have an SE custom 22 semi hollow. Cool playing. Thanks.
Excellent playing. I have an S2 Standard 24, and this video is exactly what I've been looking for. Considering a Humbucker From Hell in the neck and a PAF Master in the bridge. The PAF Master Neck pickup sounds great in your video, so I'll give it more thought. Nice work!
The HFH really has a strange name. It sounds like some crazy hot pickup, but it’s the exact opposite haha. It’s pretty much a killer P-90 that just looks like a hum bucket. One of my favorite pickups ever. Super, super cool pickup!
Lol, I agree. Per DiMarzio’s site: “Why is it called The Humbucker From Hell®? Try it in the bridge position with a bright amp - but put in your earplugs first, and don’t say you weren’t warned.”
Hi! I installed them in the typical orientation, with the lead cable facing towards the control cavity. DiMarzio says the sound is the same in either orientation (www.dimarzio.com/node/1723). I just went with what made it easiest for install. They also sell reverse zebra if you are particular
Yes, it would be pretty tough to match it without hearing it! You need a DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) program like GarageBand or Audacity (these are free) and an audio interface like a Focusrite or Presonus, this allows you to hear a mix of the audio from the DAW and your own playing while recording
@@illbeinyourband yay, just installed a very similar Seymour Duncan '59 into a guitar that came with Crunch Lab and its a night and day! Very articulate, and I can just crank up gain for metal tone while maintaining the dynamics.
They sound nearly identical, but the paf's are slightly more "musical". Most noticable at 6:40 and 10:01, for me anyway.

Also, I couldn’t imagine not being able to intonate. I play in too many different tunings and gauges….
Great video.
I dont i herd enough of a difference between them to justify changing them honestly. Those “s” pickups are pretty dang good already.
I changed mine for Seymour Seth Lovers. I have to admit there is almost no difference, the stock pickups are really good.
They’re really good. I have an Epiphone Explorer with Epi’s ProBuckers and those are unbelievably good as well. Crazy value these days
Very true.
I’m surprised
I have a used 245 coming this Thursday. Replacing stockers with GFS HB sized Mean P-90s.
Thanks! Exactly what I was looking for. I recently purchased a SE Zach Myers and really liked the 245 humbuckers in it and wanted something similar for my S2 Mira. I think I've found it :)
Awesome! Glad I could help!!
Are those pickups splittable w/push pull pot modd to the guitar ???

I love having the coil split for extra versatility!
@@illbeinyourband Your video persuaded me to get a couple of push pull 500k audio taper pots.

PRS SE has such great quality control. I added a Mark Holcomb svn to my collection
Both sets are good, but I preferred stock pickups on split tone.
Thanks for this methodical demo. It's very helpful, and the only online guidance I could find about how my 245 "S" pickups would sound if I wired them for coil splits.
I thought they sounded really good split, but I’m also not an expert in single coil sounds
Great video!

I do too. If I could go back in time, I wouldn’t even bother changing them. The PAF Masters are great too tho, esp the neck
I can't barely hear a difference between them. The 245 S sound just as good as the Seymour Duncan, except it came on the guitar at no extra cost.

Yeah I wouldn’t do it over again!
Excellent review 👌
What is the tone knob setting dialled at on the guitar ?
Wow that PAF Master really bring beef to the 1-3 strings.
I thought there would be more difference.
Hi. Nice video. Can you please tell me if the cream in the Dimarzio zebra matches the PRS rings? I was going to switch to black because I am concerned it won’t match. I have an SE custom 22 semi hollow. Cool playing. Thanks.
It is not a perfect match. Thanks!

If I had to pick one paf master it would be the neck, I love it’s bite! It’s unique. Good luck, and thanks a lot for watching!!

*buckeR. Damn autocorrect…
I like hum bucket!
Hi. Whats the year of your Mesa amp? Thanks
The PAFs are inserted with yellow edge inward. Should they not be facing outward

Quick question ! I have a hard time recording with a backing track...How do u do it ? Do you play without one or just play it in the background ?
Hey there. I load the backing track into Logic Pro X or GarageBand and then record my guitar tracks over it.
@@illbeinyourband oh, but do you actually hear the backing track ?
Yes, it would be pretty tough to match it without hearing it! @@illbeinyourband thank you !
Did you find PAFs more responsive and dynamic?
Yes, absolutely. The 245 pickups are not bad by any means, but the lack that extra edge of “magic”
