I swapped the bridge pickup in my very first guitar (a super-cheap retail store thing) for a PAF Pro all the way back in 1985 and it still sounds incredible. I've played pickups from a lot of brands over the years but I've always found DiMarzios to be more versatile and dynamic than anything else that isn't some boutique made-to-order builder. I've got a Les Paul with the stock Burstbuckers (that are mediocre) and these PAF 57s are calling to me.
Ironically on clicking this video and seeing your cliffs of Dover styled demo on the intro, I see an advertisement for Eric Johnson’s new Dimarzio humbuckers as I’m hunting for guitar parts 😂 great playing as usual Cam! These pickups sound great! Gives me an idea for my Epiphone ‘59 Les Paul. Also love to see another Edwards guitar in your flock! Eastern made Les Paul’s are heavily on the rise these days and most UA-camrs and Gibson players I know have at least one in the collection. We truly are living in a golden era of instrument and gear manufacturing.
Big DiMarzio fan here, I use a lot of different ones. These sound GREAT! Quite revealing tone, sensitive and you can really hear the guitar - and the switch position is very clearly identifiable on overdrive with these Love 'em. And some killer playing doesn't hurt. Great job.
these look awesome, I really want to try these and the PAF 59 pickups. I'm interested to try the machine-wound-computer-controlled scatter-winds of the PAF 57s and PAF 59's
Cool, love your sound!. I have first batch DP pafs from the 70s in my 78 GLP custom and they re only getting better :). My standard has Tim Shaws though, I leave m there. The combi of the guitars is very useable.
I switched to seymour duncan pearley gates on my les paul to get the ZZ top sound. It would be cool if you could do a comparison with these dimarzio pafs.
I'm working on it, will be back when I get it fully, suffice it to say, it's an arpeggio starting with open E, then play on the 12 fret E minor position
PAF (no dots) is the name trademarked by Dimarzio and not P.A.F. that means Patent Applied For, like PAF 59, PAF 57, PAF 36th, PAF Masters. So, it's pronounced "PAFF".
Cheers! Fully enough, brits tend to say 'paff'. Is it no longer an acronym since the patent is no longer being applied for? Plus there's no full stops denoting it's an acronym on DiMarzios website. I guess it's whatever people want to call it.
What’s odd about it? Back in the 50’s and 60’s they made the one pickup and just threw it in both positions. Many old guitars where the neck was a little hotter by happenstance. The whole “calibrated” stuff wasn’t even a thing until the 80’s
@@CameronCooper I just watched your video on your signal chain and now I know where it comes from. Great playing though bro, I always appreciate someone playing Jake's licks
I think other PAFs they make do have 4 conductor wiring. The PAF 57s are made to be more like the original PAFs of the period which were single conductor.
@@OperationEndGame reach out to Dimarzio and ask them if they'll change the single conductor wiring to 4 conductor wiring. They changed the 4 conductor wiring to single conductor wiring on my Air Classics. I think it was $10 per pickup.
Lovely playing Cam, though I vastly prefer the sound of this guitar from the video you posted two years ago with the Duncan pickups in it: ua-cam.com/video/gYZ510Q1nNE/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared&t=113 These DiMarzio's sound thin, brittle, and harsh compared to the rich full midrange of the Duncan JB & '59 combo that you had in it previously.
Using a totally different sound to show off the character of the pickups and when it comes to my playing, I'm wearing a totally different hat so to speak on purpose. My usual hard rock style didn't feel right for this video and fancied toning down unlike the video you're referring to.
@CameronCooper Totally get it, if that's the base tone you were going for.. 👍🏻 I've heard plenty of guys use similar core tones to good effect in the right context and mix.
@CameronCooper Yes, of course. I'm not against bright pickups. I love my Burstbucker Pros. But for A2 I would like a more mellow tone, like SD Seth Lovers.

Ive always like Dimarzio pickups. Also, I thought I would never hear Cameron play Joe Bonamassa! These sound great for sure.
Great job and for the rest of us the price is right 😊
They sounded great!

Listening to you play guitar makes me happy.

Dimarzio all the way, wassup lary and steve!!!
This just may be the ideal pickup for an old single bridge humbucker SE150 Yamaha I've had sitting around for a long time.

Finally a review on these! Thank you. Now I need a new guitar so I can put a set of these in it. Lol

Very nice dude . Team Dimarzio forever

That 57 (neck) really does sound great. Was really impressed with it.
Awesome tone
Good idea, for my new LP build I started with.
Go for it!
They sound insane bro 🤘🏼😈🤘🏼🏴
Cam, you+those pickups make that les paul sound like a les paul!
That guitar sounds great also I’m having coco pops for breakfast
So cool sound so different
superb sound!! but which are the differences between paf 57 and paf pro? thank you
and how about paf masters vs paf 57
All my guitars with DiMarzio!)
Just one with EMG's
What happened to your old band Lake domain. I really liked where that was heading.❤
Great content keep creating
So harsh and brash to my ears. Great playing. I would have expected the Seymour's to be better. Great demo. Thanks.
Sounds great Cameron, a lot of that is your fingers as well!
What are the odds of you providing the tab for that opening lick? So sweet!
Quite slim 😬
@@CameronCooper Let’s agree on zero.
Your best bet is to slow it down to 0.5x speed and learn note for note by ear.
@@giraffeapprovedhow do we learn by ear now days lol

No way near the 36th anniversary set there nice thou
The lead pup has the bite it should and the neck pup has the creamy tone that we all know for a Les Paul.
I wonder how they are compared with the paf 36th
Cameron you are a guitar pimp🤟🤟🤟🤟🤟
I hope that's a compliment aha
I never liked Di Marzizo pickups. The ones I played sounded much too harsh and just not very appealing. But these sound good 👏
There’s only one question for me how are they for Jimmy page tones circa zep2-4
I'm sure if you can play the songs well these will serve you just fine
What about trying out with your old Edwards les pauls?
It is an Edwards
Oh damn! I’ve just realized that, sorry
@@mehmet.sunguralp No worries, I'm actually flattered you didn't notice.
@@CameronCooper The whole time I thought it was a gibson😅
What is your signal chain (pedals + amp + cab + speakers)?
All info you need is here ua-cam.com/video/VgoFsFMzSAE/v-deo.html
Wonder what the difference in these and the air classics sound like
It's hard trying to decide between two good things like that
Is this a cherry sunburst les paul ?
👌👌👌
Killer demo -they really sound nice. Since they stand for Patent Applied For, we say P.A.F.s, never "Paff"!

I'm an old American and I've always said Paffs 😂
Cool with that, but "zebbra?" Lol
@@PolarbarrywhiteNot used to the British way?
So one 57 in the neck and one 57 in the bridge seems odd but okay then lol
Works for me. A matching set
@@CameronCooper that’s good definitely getting them as a set I know some picks up don’t go well as a set like my Emgs 57/66s

Play authentic?
What are you asking?
The pickups sound s bit harsh here. Whats your signal chain?
I am using a tone I'd use in a mix so it cuts through if it sounds a bit harsh. I'm using my amp and a bit of reverb. That's it

Making a Les Paul copy more “authentic” 😂😂 someone’s Gibson’s head just exploded lol
It makes since I'm not playing a Gibson ;p

Sounds so harsh for A2 pickup. Not my choice.
It can actually be a good thing having a brighter pickup. Especially when recording

You lost me at less output 😂
Why? They aren't as powerful as what I'd typically use
