My associaton w/ David and Paul has been educational and positive and they have both been so supportive of me. Yes; I built that test guitar while consulting for Collings, and David, Paul and I used it on the DGT pickup thing. But here's the thing about David and Paul: They are both VERY tonally aware. ( !!!) David has been in my shop, and shown me his ability to "squeeze" tone out of a messed up acoustic guitar to the point of making my jaw drop. E. Johnson showed me that too, way back when ... . I may have helped these folks, but they have all been my teachers (in the extreme). Paul and David are both generous, open, and real. The reason the DGT is so good is their unending dedication to excellence, and the openness, and DRIVE ( both analytical and instinctual) that's needed to go above and beyond. Thanks for mentioning my name, David. That's nice. What's more nice is to be gifted w/ knowing folks like you and Paul. There's not one HINT of mediocrity, settling for less, or complacency with those two. Just 2 guys continously pushing the envelope. .... Pretty cool.
Players like Tim can make ANY guitar sound like top shelf instruments. Players like me can make a top shelf instrument sound like a child’s plastic toy.
I love this guitar so much I bought two. Not for a backup or any other reason but to compare two side beside for quality and playability. I bought two several serial numbers apart and they are flawless and the best most affordable PRS Ever!!! I am so hooked on this guitar because it eliminates the need for a tele, strat and a Les Paul for a gig. I did decide that the second guitar would just be used for open tuning stuff. I have to adjust the tremolo due to the lower string tension in open ED or G. Once I balanced the tremolo for all three tunings, and a small neck adjustment, that guitar is so powerful in helping me write and play riffs like no other guitar I have own. I can play all night and get every sound ever heard on record using this SE!!! I did do a mod in which in the middle pickup selection on the switch, I can lower the neck or bridge volume off without the sound shutting off with either one to zero. Now I can always stay in the middle switch and dial all bridge or neck with one volume off without losing anything. Just blending tone all the time with my ears and I love that. Much like Billy Gs pinstripe Gold Too, no selector switch, and it works best for me as that pickup selector is out of the way and a bit hard to get to when using coil tap and wanting a blend of bridge and neck…. Losing the switch is not a bad idea for this wonderful guitar.
PRS makes wonderful guitars, and this one sounds a little more like a vintage instrument to me. And Tim could literally make a shoe lace on a broomstick sound awesome!!
Love Paul's guitars. I had a CE24 I purched in the 1992 and loved it. We as a family fell on hard times in 2005 and I had to sell it and all my gear to keep a roof over our heads. It's now 2023 and I am slowly getting back to playing and acquiring gear again and Tim is killing my GAS syndrome at the moment. Well I guess to Sweetwater I go this weekend.
The last guitar I bought was a CE24. That was 6 years ago. If it ever comes down to mortgage and food vs that guitar, I'll happily live on the streets. That guitar sounds so great and plays so well, the only way anybody else is going to get it is when they pry it out of my dead cold hands.
Sorry to hear about the tough times. I think most of us can relate to selling musical equipment when the money was tight. I hope you'll be able to fit another guitar into your budget and get back into it.
We get to listen to David every Tuesday night at the Saxon for the price of a beer.He is amazing guitarist.I really appreciate he comes out once a week for our enjoyment.
In 1981, I started taking lessons from a phenomenally talented DC-area guitarist named Bill Kotapish (of 70s-80s prog rock band 'However'). Bill's main guitar was one of Paul's earlier builds, from his parents' house in Annapolis, MD. It had nearly all the features of modern PRS guitars, including the exact same bird inlays and highly carved top, though the body was solid mahogany (no maple cap). The two pickups were old Gibson P90s, which I believe had been fitted into rosewood(?) cases and mounting rings. It also had Schaller's slightly more adjustable take on the Junior's one-piece stud-mounted bridge. The entire front back and neck had a beautiful mahogany stain, with a satin finish, and just a bit of woodgrain texture...organic in a sort of 70's / Alembic kind of way, but more "rock". It was SO beautiful and played like butter. Okay, so maybe the DGT doesn't have the bird inlays or Paul's sweat on it, but it's phenomenal how modern guitar manufacturing techniques have advanced to the point that a guitar that a person might grow with for a lifetime is available for under $1K. What a great achievement!
PRS SE guitars are excellent….recently I procured a variety of Telecasters. I was blown away by 2 Indonesian Squires under $500. Someone really cared about craftsmanship and values as the Squires are at least as good as my two $1600 2022 American Telecasters. I am buying up these recent Squires and now 4 of them from Indonesia have been magnificent. A pro would not hesitate to use them to record or for a show.
Grissom is one of those dudes...like kind of unknown, but respected... He's been doing it for a long time, I did some sessions with him... Really good, tasteful, 'play for the song' kind of guy. He's got it in the hands. His notes are HIS. Am so happy he's getting the recognition he really deserves.
Best compilation video I've seen on the evolution of this awesome DGT SE, very nice! The gold top with the moon inlays is my favourite SE currently made.
Awesome story Tim. I’ve been watching your videos for a while but I’ve been listening to and admiring your work for much longer than that on all those various songs and albums you have been a part of. I believe you truly deserve to be in the Rock-N-Roll Hall of Fame.
Don't know about the guitar, but as far as guitarists go, you yourself are right up there with the best of them, not only in your playing, but your respectability as such a well rounded and cordial individual. All the best to you!
Ten Years Gone! It has always been my favourite Zeppelin song. From the age of 10 to 50, it is one of the few songs that has changed how it makes me feel the older I get.
Tim, honestly it is a joy to just watch you play. I know how hard you worked to make this "joy" seem effortless. Any day I can play it's a great day! Btw, that is the very best PRS I've ever heard. I would love to hear that through a Fender 65'. Great video, keep roc'in!
Great! This will certainly allow a lot of players to avail themselves. Of course great players such as you can make any instruments sing, and at the same time a fine tool can inspire said. I just started your Masterclass Tim, here in Thailand where I've been playing and teaching for 20 years. Back then, no UA-cam, access, etc.. hence, sincere appreciation for all your work since the beginning.
Just got one after waiting most of 2023 for it be in stock for immediate shipping. In a word, fantastic. This is in no way anything less than a professional quality guitar. In the last 20 years, the quality and consistency of low to mid-priced guitars has skyrocketed. And the DGT is really the PRS model that checks all the boxes for me in features, so I'm incredibly happy with this instrument.
I reluctantly sold my PRS Custom 24, to help fund the Gibson Les Paul Standard 60s that I really wanted. It was the right decision as I absolutely love the Les Paul, but I do miss the PRS. I can't warrant buying another Custom 24, but this guitar definitely appeals as it's a quality PRS for an affordable price. I will check one out when I can. Also love David Grissom's playing and sound. Great video Tim!
David as a person and player is the best! You’re hella awesome Tim and love the praise you give to others and the passion in the craft is seen. You’re an Ace and the best as well🙏
Recently stumbled across your channel while poking around the online guitar universe, and I'm thrilled you're out here making magic! Like zillions of guitarists, I've had a little bit of underground local success here n there a lifetime ago, but I haven't really played much in the past 25 years. Your enthusiastic love for the gift, skill, and craft of all things guitar has inspired me to pick it up again, in my 50s. W00T! Am I expecting Washburn to come knocking on the door of an unsigned, unknown guitarist with an endorsement deal for their Stephens steel gring single cutaway? Nope. No cafe, college, and winery tours for me. Just gonna tap back into the joy. Thanks for being awesome. You are indeed an inspiration.
OK, I'm going to admit that even though I've been playing since 1967 I've never paid any attention to DGT. Tim, thank you for the post! I'm now off to watch Mr. Grissom on countless videos here.
Just incredible. HUGE fan of the channel and a long time fan of PRS guitars. Seen 'em and played 'em, friends have 'em, spoke at LENGTH to the crew at the NAMM show, but have not had one sneak into my collection yet. I"m in the market! Thank you!
Tim, your playing is such an inspiration! Beautiful guitar, beautiful playing. PRS put out a video with Paul speaking about pickup design. They had a guitar body with the slide in pickup thing and alligator clips like David was talking about. So cool. Thanks for the content!
yup, I Got a 2017 custom 22. Now I own several of the Se Guitars, and they are absolutely awesome. The Se Custom 22 Semi with the core wraparound compensated bridge with some Bourns pots and wiring due to constant playing, is my #1. and probably my least expensive gigging instrument by a mile
I've always stood in awe of PRS guitars. As a teenage guitar nut in Maine in the 80's I got to see very few examples and they were all hand built masterpieces way above my price range. Glad that PRS has made gear that is more financially accessible for the average person. Would LOVE to win this guitar, but truthfully it's right at the price point of my next purchase consideration, an Epiphone 59 Les Paul Standard Outfit.
Damn, Jimmy Page is so effing killer. Has there ever been a rock electric guitar writer like J. Page? Just so many guitar nuggets and jewels in every piece (even if a few might be embellishments on some other tunes.)
I love that gorgeous rich gold top. It looks like it has many coats of clear over the gold. I wish the rosewood fingerboard was ebony, it would complement the gold top better than rosewood. I want one of those now.
Hey Tim! Hope you're doing well. Just watched your short about that amazing new HEX patch bay. In it, you touched on the Pete Cornish Soft Sustain for just a moment and it got me thinking about how nobody, at least to my knowledge, has ever done a YT deep dive on any iteration of the Soft Sustain pedals. I have zero understanding of what the platform is based on and have always been curious. I'd love to hear your thoughts on that dual pedal you have. You know, you've been my guitar guy since I bought that first John Waite solo album, back in 1982. I had bought that album assuming that Neil Giraldo would have played loads of guitar on it... my disappointment that he hadn't lasted until about 30 seconds after I dropped the needle on side one/lol. I've always been a massive fan of the work you did on After Here Though Midland, too. ...and all that brilliant guitar on Living in Oz. It still seems a miracle that I get to see you play so often. Between you and Buk, life is pretty damn great.
Paul is so knowledgeable and always trying to try and perfect. I like all kinds of guitars and gear. On the other hand, for me, practicing and learning is more important than gear. That’s what I need to do, carve out time for lessons and learning.
You got me... I've put one of these into my Sweetwater Wish List and will go forward to pick one up soon. I like the Goldtop finish although there is now a sunburst with some other standard PRS things available. Both versions are very cool. Cheers from SoCal!! 🙂🙃🙂
The one guitar I regret not buying was a gold top Custom 22 with moons, back in 2000 when I was working at a music store in KC. The guitar you’re demonstrating might as well be the same instrument - thank you for the opportunity, Tim!!!
I have the 35th Anniversary SE Custom 24 and I believe it's the same nut and trem and my god it stays in tune so well. The quality of the SE guitars is phenomenal.
Tossing my hat in the mix to win. Looks and sounds phenomenal… and I like the fact that Dave wanted it affordable but high quality. Tim, you’ve got definite chops, props to you my man!
Great video. First time I saw a PRS was at a Red Nugent show I think. I was hooked. I have a ten top for sale now. May have to buy one of these even though I have enough guitars. I guess you can never have enough. I'm like Mr Grissom. I'm 71 and when I started playing there was nothing even close to the quality of a PRS SE on the market. Plus, Dave was the player for Melloncamp who is from my hometown of Seymour Indiana. I went to school with Melloncamp cousin. Great video. Thank you sir. I might have to buy one. I love the gold color and how it's simple and has the big frets, etc. ♥️🤘♥️
I use to walk down Daytona Beach main St on bike week, and hear the bands ! I could pick out a PRS playing ! To me they have a distinctive clean sound !
I literally just stumbled on to this. I mean, I like this guitar but am still really a Les Paul guy. They just look right sound right and feel right to me when I get the right one. I think PRS makes a killer guitar. Would love to own one but have gone to buy a PRS a number of times and never found one that spoke to me enough to take it home. I would look at this one. We will see maybe it will be the guitar to get me across the PRS hurdle.
Such a SWEET guitar! Yours is the third video I've seen featuring the PRS SE DGT, but the FIRST to be giving one away! Thank you for the chance to win one of these stellar instruments!
What a FANTASTIC channel. I found your channel through Rick Beato and am so glad I did. Thank you for sharing your amazing talent and knowledge to the world and helping bring some colorful music to this messed up world. Keep on doing what your doing and love life, my brother.
Not one PRS I ever tested impressed me because they all lacked dynamic capabilities, so I'm really not a PRS fan and never had the wish to own one. But this clean near stratlike sound from a humbucker was really good. So at least this pickup and elektric circuit seems to be worth a test.
Love this video and the full circle of beginning core to the se with a DG interview. I now own one and feel inspired to get better because it so much better than I am. Don’t we all want to be inspired to pick it up and practice? Thank you Tim . Beginner course enrolled.
I was watching your video last night it's so pleasurable and when you told me you had bought the guitar I had incredible remorse about giving mine away! seriously I'm bummed that I have to give it away! Everybody should watch your video with David Grissom on the PRS DGTSE it's so natural and relaxing and informative!
Awesome! I'd love for PRS to make a few more models in Left-Handed version. A Custom 22 with Wide/Thin neck would be the ticket. Thanks for a great demo.
Can't wait for mine to arrive, 2 guys I trust to give me good advice when it comes to guitars, Tim Pierce, and Dave Grissom... I pulled the trigger as soon as these went up in the UK, The SE line is killing the competition at the moment, took me so long to try one, every gig since, there is a PRS SE helping me, I Can't quite reach the core models financially yet but as soon as I can...
Thought you might have not passed over the faux binding around the body. I believe it's the sanded natural wood underneath the finish, not the cream binding nor the gold body paint around the edges between the back wood/finishing.
Spotted Scott Nelson on bass in that clip from the Saxon Pub. Great player that I first met when he was playing with Doyle Bramhall Sr. and then again when he was with KWS. Great player. The guitar will definitely be added to my collection.
My associaton w/ David and Paul has been educational and positive and they have both been so supportive of me.
Yes; I built that test guitar while consulting for Collings, and David, Paul and I used it on the DGT pickup thing. But here's the thing about David and Paul: They are both VERY tonally aware. ( !!!) E.
Thanks Ed I just pinned your comment to the top of the thread, Nice to meet you!
Thank you for being so humble, nice to know where all started. Take care.
well put sir ,dam good guitar end of day thats that ,will be getting one if i can
That was a really nice story and the Hedgehog sent me here I saw that comment somewhere and I thought it was really funny I got a bad sense of humor
Did I win ? Damn that's a nice guitar
Not dissing the DGT but Tim will make any guitar sing
Absolutely! So much of a guitar's tone is in the player's hands, and this is an excellent example of that.
Yeah man! Tim’s a beast.
Players like Tim can make ANY guitar sound like top shelf instruments. Players like me can make a top shelf instrument sound like a child’s plastic toy.
I always think the same thing. Give him 6 strings on a 2x4 and he can make you want it.
Ain’t dat da truth!
Man! I love Tim's enthusiasm, and joy he has when playing. You know this man enjoys music, Thank you Tim!
PRS makes wonderful guitars, and this one sounds a little more like a vintage instrument to me. And Tim could literally make a shoe lace on a broomstick sound awesome!!
I actually believe that.
Totally agree
The DGT USA is what every good LP should be. Essentially.
yes was just thinking that .A TEA CHEST BASS came to mind
What does a vintage instrument sound like??
Love Paul's guitars. I had a CE24 I purched in the 1992 and loved it. We as a family fell on hard times in 2005 and I had to sell it and all my gear to keep a roof over our heads. It's now 2023 and I am slowly getting back to playing and acquiring gear again and Tim is killing my GAS syndrome at the moment. Well I guess to Sweetwater I go this weekend.

Don't forget to tip the band !
NO one sounds like DG. He stays on his own path and knows where he is going. Respect!
Love how you dropped that tuning and went straight in Zep without missing a beat

Great story! I'd love to see that guitar today. :)
I've never seen a video by this guy before. Now I want to watch ALL of his videos. His playing is incredible and seemingly effortless. Amazing ...
You’ve definitely heard Tim play thought. He’s played on literally thousands of recordings. He’s the man
You’re in for a treat. This guy is a genuine superstar under the radar.
No thank you

I saw him with Joe Ely in L.A. a couple of times in the 80's. Easily some of the best live playing I've ever heard and I've heard a lot.
This is great news Tim. I love PRS SE guitars, I always wait for the SE versions, and they are just getting better and better.

I have the starla and mira SEs and I love them.
The McCarty 594 SE comes out in February!
@@danielgallardo7249 Yes, similar to the DGT, but without the trem bridge, if that's what you prefer
Yes Tim has so many sounds in his fingers. Such a groove always. Led Zep is the cherry on top.

LOL. Yeah, I suspect the same thing with me. :)
Same 👍
His has extra notes in it😂🤡
Just picked up mine this week. Stunning guitar value!
Affordable that’s the word. Who can say that anymore for a quality guitar. Love it. Thanks Tim.

Thank you for the Ten Years Gone riff Tim. That made my day. Castles Made of Sand was bonus. ❤️
how crazy 'ten yrs gone' has been in my hands this week too. you know what they say about great minds
Great sounds always come from Tim’s fingers and instruments, and this goldtop is no exception.

Tim's spot on. I took delivery of one yesterday. Beautiful guitar. LOVE the pickups - probably one of THE best features of this guitar.

Luv PRS. And I always get a kick out of watching how much you enjoy playing.
Just a dream to have one PRS guitar my own!
Was able to get a PRS SE Custom last year. It's a keeper!

Such a great video! Well done Tim.
Looks awesome.. what a great idea, nice instruments that don't cost a fortune! Much appreciated and thanks always for the great content
Dude, that intro lead was incredible! You NEVER disappoint!
Great guitar played by a great guitarist. Tim you always sound so good.
Just bought one (for the second time), getting it this week. Sounds awesome! I think an S2 model would be cool too!
Thank you David Grissom and PRS for making this amazing guitar that I can afford to buy!🎸
The guitar sounds so good. The playing is outstanding and so is the knowledge.
What will Tim do to change his friend ,Rhett Shull's perspective about PRS ?
That is hilarious! thank you so much for the comment.... I don't know where to begin..
so many directions I could go to answer this :)
Have him play open chords.

Tim, your creativity in your leads will never cease to amaze and inspire! Thank you!
That opening solo just sold me the guitar! So well done by Tim with some great tricks I've never seen before...
I bought a PRS Vela Hollowbody today, now I own three and hopefully soon four! 😅 Lovely guitar! ❤

Thanks Tim for bringing this great PRS affordable model to us to learn about and the story behind it. Always enlightening us.
I feel like I’m tied to the whipping post , waiting to get my hands on a SE DGT
You got me... I've put one of these into my Sweetwater Wish List and will go forward to pick one up soon. I like the Goldtop finish although there is now a sunburst with some other standard PRS things available. Both versions are very cool. Cheers from SoCal!! 🙂🙃🙂
The one guitar I regret not buying was a gold top Custom 22 with moons, back in 2000 when I was working at a music store in KC. The guitar you’re demonstrating might as well be the same instrument - thank you for the opportunity, Tim!!!
This guitar is truly a GEM! You did a wonderful job here showcasing all of its superb qualities.
Great, now I gotta buy one 😂 check out the Yamaha revstars. They did an incredible job on those guitars. I have 2 and I absolutely love them.
I still bought the American Professional II Fender Telecaster.
I love playing with my Telewhacker.
I have the 35th Anniversary SE Custom 24 and I believe it's the same nut and trem and my god it stays in tune so well. The quality of the SE guitars is phenomenal.
I have that model and it’s a lot of guitar for not much money.
@@chrislestermusic Agreed, and though I haven't had my hands on this new one, I think the 35th SE C24 is the finest SE so far.

For many reasons, you always bring a smile to my face watching your videos, keep up the great work Tim 👍
What a sweet guitar. Thanks for the chance to win !
I just called my Sweetwater rep Charlie to order one which I will pick up in person next week. Very exciting!!
I use to walk down Daytona Beach main St on bike week, and hear the bands ! I could pick out a PRS playing ! To me they have a distinctive clean sound !
Love the "Ten Years Gone" he slips in there after he goes drop-D on the fly.
Good to see a new one for the new year ! I’m a strat guy but need me a humbucker guitar and prs rules especially for the money 👍🏻

The music is there , heart and soul ...hail hail Rock-N-Roll . That would look good next to my Gibson 57 DC gold top
Not one PRS I ever tested impressed me because they all lacked dynamic capabilities, so I'm really not a PRS fan and never had the wish to own one. But this clean near stratlike sound from a humbucker was really good. So at least this pickup and elektric circuit seems to be worth a test.
Love PRS guitars. They are so versatile in many genres of music
I ordered mine two weeks ago when the PRS videos first came out. I can't wait to get my hands on this one.
Played a 2003 prs just this weekend it was selling for 4000$ Canadian, I get it why it was so much beautiful build lots of tone options great neck!
Love this video and the full circle of beginning core to the se with a DG interview. I now own one and feel inspired to get better because it so much better than I am. Don’t we all want to be inspired to pick it up and practice? Thank you Tim . Beginner course enrolled.
Awesome playing and guitar Tim, congrats to PRS for this great guitar 🤘🏻
I knew it was going to be a PRS SE before it came on screen. Such amazing value for the money.
Of all the PRS neck shapes I've played, the DGT was the one I liked the most. I think I'm getting gas.
Thank You Tim Pierce. Its such a gift to be able to see and listen to you in this type of setting!

Damn Tim, that tasty lead during ‘Whipping Post’. [3:22] Nicely done. Cheers.
I totally agree with you.
I added about about 100 $ and i got the best of the best, for my needs: the SE McCarty 594. 🤩
Nice job Tim! The one I got is pretty amazing.
@@timpierceguitar If I win I'll re-gift it back to you. I'll get as much fun hearing you make it sing to the world as I do playing it badly to myself!
Great Video
Im interested in getting one. My core PRS is my favorite and that gold top looks amazing
I’ve been a PRS player for many years, mainly McCartys, and somehow I’ve never played a DGT! It sounds wonderful but I’d have to try that neck shape.
Awesome! I'd love for PRS to make a few more models in Left-Handed version. A Custom 22 with Wide/Thin neck would be the ticket. Thanks for a great demo.
Would be nice, but won’t happen as long as Paul is there. He is completely dismissive of left handed guitars.
@@TenaciousPrawn Roger That!
Great Video, Great Sound, Guitar, amp, pedal AND the player
Can't wait for mine to arrive, 2 guys I trust to give me good advice when it comes to guitars, Tim Pierce, and Dave Grissom... I pulled the trigger as soon as these went up in the UK, The SE line is killing the competition at the moment, took me so long to try one, every gig since, there is a PRS SE helping me, I Can't quite reach the core models financially yet but as soon as I can...
Beautiful Guitar Tim. Great video and story as usual. Love the history and the way you tell each guitar’s story :). Thank you!!
Thought you might have not passed over the faux binding around the body. I believe it's the sanded natural wood underneath the finish, not the cream binding nor the gold body paint around the edges between the back wood/finishing.
Love the passion for tone Tim!
Very pleasant video! I really hope that this guitar will put David even more in the spotlight.
Spotted Scott Nelson on bass in that clip from the Saxon Pub. Great player that I first met when he was playing with Doyle Bramhall Sr. and then again when he was with KWS. Great player.
The guitar will definitely be added to my collection.
