In my opinion if your cried during this moment, you truly experienced this game to its fullest, you laughed with the gang, you fought with them, all to watch it unravel. This was one of the most beautifully written moments ever
That scene of Arthur talking shit to micah and Dutch hit me so hard. Arthur as a character felt like a character I could really relate to and him dieing hurt like losing a family member
I like how Arthur told everyone that he would like to die facing towards the west and watching sunset, instead he died facing towards the east and watching sun rise. This symbolises who Arthur was and what he has become now, totally opposite.
I keep playing as John, doing my farm chores, exploring every corner of the map, finishing all of the challenges, etc. As long as John lives and Abigail and Jack are happy, Arthur's death wasn't in vain. Somehow I feel the responsibility to carry on that legacy. What a game!

@SpokenTurtleBack Well he did specify he wanted to die facing West watching a sunset, but instead he died facing east watching a sunrise, possibly symbolizing how he's changed or perhaps how he rose above all the challenges he faced and did the right thing in the end. Or maybe I'm just reading too much into it lol
i really like the honour system in this game, it defines Arthurs character by how YOU play him, and it shows you who you really are, if YOU are honourable or dishonourable… and i love that
@@drcheesenut896 that's the thing though, we knew it was coming, and we had to watch him wither and slowly grow worse over the stages of late game. Until he eventually passed
@@toopavonhoopaxiv9761 Well yeah, but with John you saw him put his demons behind him, and try to run from his past until he was finally able to return home and be happy. Then the agents come and rip it away, and John has to realize that he can't run from his mistakes and that his family won't be safe unless he's gone, so he accepts his fate and walks out the barn

He said that wanted to see the sunset to remember the good old days with the gang. Instead, he faced the sunrise, wondering what was going to become of John and his family.
@@gangrenousgandalf2102 But it could also be the dawn of a new era. It was the start of a new Century, it could also be a way of saying that Arthur had either gone to the light, he achieved Heaven. Or it could be that he had opened his eyes to see that Dutch was a rat, just like Micah. Usually when people make a realization, it "dawns" on them
Coming back to this after a friend of mine and my mom died at 12:50 this morning. She died at 50 due to cancer, but stood unshaken and undeterred despite knowing death was approaching, and helped those closest to her just like Arthur. Rest well lulu, you’ve earned it… Edit: my mom is okay guys, its just that a former family friend of my mom and myself died.
I actually didint cry at Arthur's death, i cried at his goodbye to John. His line "We aint both gonna make it." Was so heartbreaking, and the look on John's face as if hes holding back tears broke me.
I started crying the moment the ride back to Beaver Hollow started. I was an absolute mess by the time Arthur died. I took Buell, the horse gifted by Hamish in his dying moments, with me on the last mission, which made it hurt even more for me.
This ending, this is the ending that gets me more than rdr 1. It hits you thrice in the feels 1. You loose your horse 2. Dutch is a completely lost cause 3. Arthur dies because Micah beat the last of the life out of him Between these three things, the people you've seen die, the time you spent customising Arthur, just for him to be killed by a snake.....it hurts everytime
GTA V is a good game. I had fun with it, beat it twice, totaled about 160 hours. I remember some of the activities and a couple quests. The protagonists were pretty great. I have fond memories of playing it. Red Dead Redemption 2 is a masterpiece. I had so much fun playing it, but it also genuinely made me think, it made me laugh and it made me cry. It taught me important lessons and it broke my heart. I beat RDR2 three times, and just started my fourth after 1.5 years off. I have almost 1000 hours logged (story mode only.) RDR2 changed the way I think of some things. It affected who I am as a person in some pretty fundamental ways. So much of this game and its characters and how they made me feel and what they made me think is indelibly etched into my mind in ways that are no less real than the memories I have of high school. After my first playthrough I was left emotionally shaken for months. Sadness, regret, joy, disbelief, pride, so many emotions. Even though I know what's coming, it still breaks me a little every time, and it always will. That's a good thing. Rockstar likes to think GTA V is their crowning achievement because they're most concerned with money. However, the true fact of the matter is that RDR2 is undeniably their magnum opus, whether they like it or not. Few games have had half the emotional impact on me that this game provided. RDR2 is on the same level as The Last of Us in that regard. It breaks my heart that Rockstar has abandoned this game. It feels like the most tragic kind of oversight. This game will always be special to its core fan base, and I just have one thing to say to Rockstar about it: "Be loyal to what matters." -Arthur Morgan.
To people who think Arthur lost, he didn't. Arthur won. He fought Micah as a distraction. He knew as long as John got out, that's all it would take to win. The ending was sad, but it wasn't a "Bad ending". It was hopeful, perfectly filling in the pieces for RDR1.
@@rbadge1604 That doesn't mean Arthur lost. His goal was to help John and his family escape, which he did. Whatever happens next doesn't change the fact that Arthur did help them
It‘s details like this that make RDR2 the game of the generation. Everything was crafted masterfully. Thank you Rockstar, although your money milking with GTA V is truly annoying. It‘s like Dutch took over the company and keeps yelling „wE nEeD oNe mOrE sCoRe!“
I dedicate this song to my dear friend Buğra. He was a great friend, like a brother to me. Red Dead Redemption 2 was his favorite game and his favorite character was John Marston. Yesterday, he ended his life. I still can't understand why he did this. I hope you are happy in heaven right now, brother.
@@C0r3yyyyy-1 100% agree while the high honour ending is better Micah isn’t the kind of character to let him live. Even though Arthur’s chances of survival were basically zero. Plus the bad ending makes killing him even more satisfying
@@theforgottenscotsman7659 I think in High Honor, Micah are actually still have a bit of respect for Arthur. so yeah it's actually quite fit his character
He realized it far too late after everyone who mattered was dead, gone straight, or hated him. Killing Micah was a combination of that realization either to avenge the gang or for his own revenge. Had the Blackwater money, but nobody to share it with. Dutch shooting Micah did repair some damage in John’s eyes, going from he was a devil in plain view to a sad idealist in his perception.
Like most "leaders" he wanted everyone to be as loyal to him as he was to himself. He was too narcissistic to even consider being loyal to anyone but himself.
Came to listen to this, been going through some stuff. I remember getting this game at a midnight release the day it came out my dad went with me. Played it all night, was during the winter so my dad wasn't working as much as he did of the summer. He never cared for video games much, other than getting them for me. I was in college at the time so i stayed at home when I wasn't on campus, he was a huge fan of westerns and when he saw me playing the opening valentine sections he got hooked. I restarted for him and we played through that whole game during the winter. I'd play and he'd comment and watch, he loved that it was basically an interactable western movie. That became our thing, we played through the entire game every winter. My dad passed away from brain cancer this year and I haven't had the heart to even look at the game, but I heard this song the other day and it brought back all the happy memories. Im gonna be replaying this masterpiece every winter from now on.
"Our time has pretty much passed" - Arthur "The price of freedom is steep" - Zack "It's called luck, and it will run out eventually" - Joel RIP all 3 of them, they're lost but not forgotten
I love how the High Honor version is basically saying “You had a chance to redeem yourself. And you took the opportunity to make yourself a better man. Enjoy heaven, you earned it.” While the Low Honor version is saying “You had a chance to redeem yourself. To become a better man. You thought you were too good for that life. You thought you could outlive it. You don’t deserve to rest. Welcome to hell.”
One ending you're leaving the past behind and finally embracing redemption Or your only comfort is you'll be waiting for that sniveling Rat when his time's up.
I could never make Arthur low honour. Not in my first playthrough, and not now in my 2nd. And not in my future playthroughs. Never. Best protagonist in any game ever.

@@theworstmaid a show like breaking bad is as long as red dead (story not freeroam) and rdr2 is superior in writing minus with chapter 5 being the fly episode of the game
"I just don't want any more folks to die, Dutch." -Hosea Matthews This one stuck for me ever since Chapter 1 and hearing it again in Chapter 6, after Hosea himself had died, was the most memerable moment of the entire game, really reminding the player of how wrong everything went and how it was foreshadowed from the start, right before it all came crashing down for good.
Dutch that son of a biscuit. He acted like Arthur meant everything to him, he even said Arthur was more than a son to him. And believed micah instead and left Arthur to die.
I will never ever regret taking a literal month on chapter 3-4 with other completing a majority of challenges cause I wanted to enjoy every moment in the game. So, so glad I did cause when I got to chapter 5 I was starting sniff onions. Goddamn beautiful creation, can’t call it a game. Absolute work of art, I don’t think we’ll get anything like this ever again boys and girls…. And I’m kinda okay with that 😌
True but idk about that i feel like when i was beating up thomas downes i didnt want to beat him but arthur kept on beating him without me controlling :(
@@cliffo55thegamerdog83 He definitely made that choice. Nobody forced Arthur to do it. Strauss was so incredibly expendable that when you kick him out of the gang and tell him to never come back nobody actually disagrees with you. Arthur fucked up and he wasn't a good person until the end when he did everything he could to right his wrongs but he still had a hand in the murder of more than a handful of innocent people and ruined the lives of many since bank money for example wasn't federally insured back then. He got his redemption but there's no good ending for someone that hurt so many people and surrounded themselves by people that refused to change for the better.
*Arthur:* "Hosea?" *Hosea:* "Nice to see you again my boy." *Arthur:* "I haven't been a good man Hosea, since I saw you last." *Hosea:* "No, you haven't been a good man Arthur...you were the best."
It’s kinda canon. Arthur saw Hosea as more of a father figure than Dutch. And besides, Hosea would’ve obviously never supported Dutch’s actions throughout Chapters 5 and 6. The only reason he kept doing these horrific things was because Micah supported him no matter what he did.
Erik Allen if Hosea had survived the Saint Denis Disaster and lived a normal life, Dutch would have mastered Hosea’s ways and eventually kick or kill Micah from the gang.
Frank Castle I mean they're both beloved characters although Iron Man got popular only because of RDJ Wolverine was already popular however after X-MEN (2000) Wolverine became more popular, Arthur was a newer Character Rockstar fans got attached to mainly because of his complexity
A little late but i literally completed the game yesterday (June 26 2023) and when i saw arthur laying there looking ate the sun all burned up because of his TB broke me brought a tear to my eye
high honor sounds like a choir of angels welcoming you to heaven while low honor sounds like your guardian angel singing somberly for you, failing in his mission
Once I found out that Arthur was dying and the gang was falling apart, I did everything possible to bring his honor up, from Mrs. Downes to strangers needing a ride to town. And when it was all over, this song filled my soul, and the sunrise took Arthurs.
That's what Arthur would've done, turn his life around before the end, I kept my Arthur relatively high honor, sure I lost some here and there for casual massacres or murders, but overall it was high.
I bought this game a few years ago, I slowly played the campaign, a little bit before the ending, my dad passed I was really sad, and some how barely had enough for the high honor ending, and I couldn't help but think of my dad, because he used to be a cowboy, growing up we go to the horse corral, I would wear his roping buckles to school thinking I was so cool, I just lost it when this song started playing. I miss that man, I miss my friend
Oh omg I understand I lost my dad but before I got it he was never a cowboy or did anything cowboy like but I cried when realizing two father figures (my own dad and Arthur) I had are now dead I’m severely sorry friend
"I did." Those were the last words I heard Arthur Morgan say in my game. And it actually was the best way I think to go. Because those words mean so much. Because he did. He worked hard for the gang, and when Dutch gave in and became who he really was, he worked hard to save those he cared about and even saved his best friend John, knowing that possible riches were near him, and helping John escape from Micah and Dutch mere minutes before his death. And that really just hits home to me. So yes Arthur, you did. And I am so happy I got to see you do all that you did
He says that because Dutch tells him to have faith throughout the game. The entire time, Dutch thought Arthur didn’t believe in him. But he did. He just slowly started seeing the truth in Chapter 6. Dutch is an idiot.
Low Honor: Go for The Money: "You Let Him Damn Us All, Dutch" Low Honor: Help John: "Damn Us Both" High Honor: Go for The Money: "And your dead. Inside, your dead" High Honor: Help John: "John made it. He's the only one. Rest of us... No. I tried. In the end, I did"
,,He did" Redeem himself in a way no other Van der Linde gang member could ever do it and earned his peace. (possibly in heaven with high honour) ,,He did" become the man he truly was and I think wanted to be in the end after his sickness let all the emotional armour, he had built around his heart for his whole life, fall down. ,,He did" come to terms with himself and accepted himself truly, as well as earned the acceptance from people he never thought he would get acceptance from. Your Comment also hit so close I agree so much And damn I'm crying again
I feel like the “I tried” could be taken many different ways. He could mean that he tried to be a better man, he tried to have faith, or another thing. But nuntheless it is still very sad

Nothing will change how I played this game. I started Arthur out as the big balls tough guy, as Dutch became more reckless Arthur began only punishing those who deserved it. When Arthur learned he had TB, he took it upon himself to right the wrongs he could with the time he had left.

A lot of deaths really hit me ;-; I also had the same horse from the begging but when I heard that song I knew.. it was the end and I had full honor.
If you live anywhere near a field or the countryside, I recommend going on a long walk in the late afternoon during the summer with this playing in the background.
I can’t actually describe how this song makes me feel. Rockstar, this is a masterpiece of a game. The story telling, the landscape, the soundtrack, the true story of a real hero. My only sadness is that it’s over.
@@jacob1813leipzig That's very sad to reflect, imagine how many good men have died forgotten and without any recognition for it, luckily, there are exceptions

Imagine in Alternate reality where Dutch wasn't the leader but Hosea and encountered in the same events they were. Hosea would; 1. Never did Blackwater, he knows the risk of robbing ferry lines and it can go wrong real quick as he said because they had no escape routes and too much bloodshed, Pinkertons wouldn't had caught up to their acts. 2. He would be a more successful outlaw than Dutch. he knows what he's doing and what he has to do in situations, he's always a level minded individual who knows how to read people. Dutch always ruins their plan by not being loyal to one family for example. Hosea clearly stated they should stick to ONLY 1 FAMILY to be loyal on because when you double cross Gray and Braithwaites it could be chaos he said but Dutch insists because he was blinded on the gold instead of sticking up to the main plan and their robberies would go smooth. 3. He would never rob Leviticus Cornwall, he knows he's not a man to be messed with and he has control over Pinkertons, he knows this more than Dutch ever did. back in Colter, he explained to Dutch that robbing Cornwall would be their death sentence and indeed it did. 4. He would've been an honorable outlaw like Otis Miller. Hosea never wanted to hurt people. he casually shares this with Lenny in their conversations during chapter 2. they're the closest bunch. even Charles admires and looks up to Hosea and Arthur. all he ever wanted was to retire in peace and keep everyone alive as he could before he "passes away" 5. He would've kicked out Micah and Mr. Strauss, meaning Arthur might not have contracted TB in the process. Hosea knows Micah isn't to be trusted judging by his demeanor and looks, Mr. Strauss' business dealings isn't ideal and no sense of honor like he said himself in the game. he sometimes had arguments with the two of them. 6. Dime Novels - Hosea and his gang would've been in dime novels with his adventures after they disappeared completely to Australia or Tahiti. 7. Arthur looks up to Dutch, but he felt more embrace from Hosea as a father figure and admittedly likes Hosea even more. Arthur is more loyal than anything but when two factions collide and everyone who were honorable, they'd side with Arthur. this counts Hosea, Mrs. Grimshaw, Lenny, Sean, Kieran, and Charles. 8. Clean Escape - Hosea wants to retire and buy a ranch, meaning he'll conduct AT LEAST 4 bank robberies to do that. but how? simple. less heat, the better. Pinkerton doesn't work vigilantly unless if you commit high profile crimes like massacres, ferry job, or messing with millionaires at that time. Hosea would've drank coconut while eating mangoes in Tahiti if anything. bank robberies are dealt by the local low and bounty hunters, that's their job and they all know that. 9 Real respect, Hosea is truly respected by all of his members, including Micah even saying the old man has more wisdom than a thousand Bills combined in which Bill laughs it out. Hosea points his gun towards Bill because sometimes Bill can go too far. he didn't want Bill's more showy side because despite Bill actually contributing for the gang ranging from hunting or money-making schemes, he always has the need to show that he did something. Hosea even taught Jack how to read, of which Jack grew fond of thanks to Hosea's influence. 10. Great ending - we wouldn't have a depressing ending to the game of both if he was the leader. he taught Arthur that revenge is a fool's game and he clearly is against it. it's not worth fighting over something that isn't tangible or redemption but to honor the deaths instead of doing something profoundly stupid without planning it properly.

This ending, this is the ending that gets me more than rdr 1. It hits you thrice in the feels
1. You loose your horse
2. Dutch is a completely lost cause
3. Arthur dies because Micah beat the last of the life out of him

This game will always be special to its core fan base, and I just have one thing to say to Rockstar about it:
"Be loyal to what matters."
-Arthur Morgan.

Loyalty meant everything to Dutch. But when loyalty mattered the most, he threw it away.
Yup. Demanded loyalty, but refused/was incapable of giving it in return. A parasite.
Dutch betrayed himself.
He don't even know the meaning of the word.
Cap story
Low Honor: Go for The Money: "You Let Him Damn Us All, Dutch"
Low Honor: Help John: "Damn Us Both"
High Honor: Go for The Money: "And your dead. Inside, your dead"
High Honor: Help John: "John made it. He's the only one. Rest of us... No. I tried. In the end, I did"
,,He did" Redeem himself in a way no other Van der Linde gang member could ever do it and earned his peace. (possibly in heaven with high honour)
,,He did" become the man he truly was and I think wanted to be in the end after his sickness let all the emotional armour, he had built around his heart for his whole life, fall down.
,,He did" come to terms with himself and accepted himself truly, as well as earned the acceptance from people he never thought he would get acceptance from.

Finished the game once again on PC and cried like a baby! Arthur Morgan is truly one of the best character. I get to experience how Arthur life progresses on each chapters. Truly a touching story game!
*Cried like a man
Imagine in Alternate reality where Dutch wasn't the leader but Hosea and encountered in the same events they were.
Hosea would;
Hosea never wanted to hurt people. he casually shares this with Lenny in their conversations during chapter 2. they're the closest bunch. even Charles admires and looks up to Hosea and Arthur. all he ever wanted was to retire in peace and keep everyone alive as he could before he "passes away"
10. Great ending - we wouldn't have a depressing ending to the game of both if he was the leader. he taught Arthur that revenge is a fool's game and he clearly is against it. it's not worth fighting over something that isn't tangible or redemption but to honor the deaths instead of doing something profoundly stupid without planning it properly.
imagine writing this big of a gem, only for it to be scrolled away and under-appreciated.....
Really underrated comment, thanks for this
