@@CZ350tuner I still have all my Zero One stuff, only changed it to new dcc because the Z1 could not start with several trains with carriage lighting, the overload would trip instantly.
Thats a lovely restoration Lawrie, I worked on a couple of 3Fs with that chassis and I'd really recommend to oil the motor bearings and give the gears some grease as it quiets the noisy thing down well. I just used some 3 in 1 oil on it
I acquired a jinty like this for free a while back, definately agree on the oil and grease, cleaning the commutator and a fresh set of brushes is worth it too, our one runs very sweetly now.
Looking at photos of both preserved, and rare color photos of Jinty locomotives prior to preservation, it seems that the yellow interior was used in the final days of the locomotives useful life, as part of an attempt to brighten up the interior of the cabs. The brightening isn't an aesthetic as may be assumed, but rather based off of lessons learned after WW2. Specifically, during the war, it was learned that if the interiors of armored vehicles (such as tanks) were painted a light color, typically white or a kind of yellow/cream, then less lighting was needed to make gauges, levers, and such visible. This was applied to many locomotives as well, with the same result.
Tiny drops of oil on the motor bearings will quieten the loco down, just slide the magnet away just enough to get oil on both sides of the rear bearing. The armature can move back and forth depending upon the direction of travel, sometimes moving far enough back to rub on the magnet. Adjusting the location of the plastic worm gear or adding some shims between the worm and the motor can reduce the movement. Good to see the loco renovated.
I got a new body for mine back in 1970... Strange that at the time the shop only had pannier body's. Yes of a time when we didn't even have a phone in the house. Now We have one in OO, one from Dapol in O, and of course now we have the correct wheels and cast in balance weights. Plus the right number of spokes. 5" gauge of course and a boiler. Currently upgrading the drawings. Also doing two 2F dock tanks. Sweet little dears. Loved it.

When you started, would I have expected it to be running? Yes. You fix things. And you did a great job! I don't yet own a jinty, but it is on my list. Getting one on eBay is not a "problem" paying $50.00 above the cost to ship to the U.S. is. I do agree with a previous commenter, she needs oil.

Some years ago I had a maroon version of this, it only cost me £5 off a car boot sale, but, some detailing parts, paint, and decals later, I had a nice special looking Johnson 1F with an open cab. You don’t need a bottomless bank account, just time, patience, and skill will follow.
Like the video, To coin a phrase "saved from scrap" any viewers whom remember or still watch (myself included at 32 years old, i blame my kids) a certain television series about a blue tank engine will know the phrase very well.
Like all my N gauge stuff, I buy second hand working or not. Then is the fun of getting them running, a challenge to the mechanicaly minded. I even adapt kits and ready to run chassis to get what I want. So! yes it's always worth it, even just for the joy of getting it running. By the way the table cloth is perfect, Christmas day, and the pressies are opened. What do we find a train set and extra track, plus dad clearing the table, priceless memories.
I still have my H0 set and even bought a diesel locomotive to refresh it a bit, but now I think it's just too small... I can't ride on it and play in the fresh air, maybe polluting it with coal smoke... (Environmentally, I consider wood pellet.) My goal is rather to build 1:6 (or 0.17) scale narrow-gauge railway with 5" track 😋
Not worth a carrot mate if it was a Dublo R1, then that vould be reworked. The worm and wheel on them is a twin start so jingles run far too fast. The R1 has a much stronger motor too and a single start worm. The R1 has a scale height chassis too! Have a competition between the two models to see which are best and most scale??? You could

I've been running my old Triang locos on DCC since 1979, with the old pioneering Hornby Zero One DCC system.

I love people who keep on using them. Do they run well on DCC? I assume better as the higher constant voltage?
@@lmm you have to be careful, some DCC decoders can't handle the current that Triang type motors can draw.

I know many engines have light interiors to the cabs, but around the coal space and back head I didn't like. Interesting to know though

5" is a good size, somewhat man handleble but able to actually do some work!
