I'm a fairly new cruiser and I had internalized much of the negativity towards this port, avoiding it when looking for new bookings, but there was a cruise with a good itinerary that also included Nassau, so I decided to suck it up and just go. My cruise was a couple of weeks ago, and here are my observations: I agree with you that the new cruise port is nice and that area felt safe. My friend and I exited the port area and walked over to the Bahamas Rum Cake Factory, and then we walked in the opposite direction to go to John Watling's Distillery. The rum cake stop was short (and there were TONS of people being pushed through the shop) but the treats were tasty. Just know that there isn't anything to DO (like a tour) and it is only a small store front that is popular and gets a lot of traffic. The distillery was really beautiful and worth the stop with a very fun 15 minute tour and a happenin' little bar. I will say that in general I felt safe walking around and at no point did I feel harassed or pushed to purchase things (go to Cabo San Lucas--*that* is a gauntlet of harrassment!) I do wish that my friend and I had gotten some kind of transportation/excursion because it can sometimes be challenging to walk to places (the roads are narrow and sidewalks can disappear or be poorly maintained) and the humidity is hard if you are unused to it. Overall, I have no regrets and am looking forward to coming back here in the future.

Thanks for sharing your experience! We’ll definitely keep those things in mind for future visits. Nassau has come a long way with its tourism, and it’s great to see how much it’s improved. It really is a beautiful place, and I’m glad to see it continuing to get better!

Awesome video! The improvements were much needed. It was mostly the pushy vendors a and then the port needed an upgrade. Nassau is actually a very nice port. FYI The Bahamas is not a third world country. It's actually quite wealthy. The run down parts are because they are old. Most of New Providence is middle class suburban. It's just that most cruisers don't leave the downtown area and the old residential areas (ghetto/ over the hill area) bordering downtown. After you pass through it gets nicer and you see how average bahamians live, nice homes.

My professional advice is that if you have visited Nassau and already did all the excursions just looking to chill. The next time you go, catch a bus and go to the beaches on the western side of new providence(The island Nassau is on). Love beach, Cable beach, Goodmans bay, jaws beach are nicer and way less crowded than beaches downtown. Take an atv and drive to the eastern end of the island there are more beaches. All of the nice beaches i mentioned are in nice safe upper class areas. All beaches are public. New Providence is generally safe, especially for tourist, normal bahamians aren't hustlers and will help you and give advice. Also, it's better to fly in. The impression is like night and day compared to the port or how the port used to be. As a cruiser I love your videos and honest reviews.😊
