We booked a ten day Eastern Caribbean cruise on the Emerald Princess. We skipped paying all the upgrades packages to save cost. When we entered the buffet for the first time there crew were pushing for those upgrades which l ignored. I asked about the location of the main dining room meals l was surprised when the crew member told me that Princess cruise had done away with that 20 years ago and only offer buffet style dining (breakfast, lunch & dinner) and the only option were the specialty dining! To this day l am still uncertain if main dining wasn’t offered on Emerald Princess. What a big let down for us (my wife first cruise) and l had previously told her while planning the cruise and how nice it would be to go to the main dining room.

This was misleading. Initially, I thought he was talking about the Premier and apps Packages being a bad deal. He was talking about the Plus and Premier DRINK PACKAGES. Maybe that’s the fault of Princess for using confusing naming conventions.

Very insightful video. My family and I have sailed on 3 cruises only - all with Princess. I agree with all of your commentary about Princess and appreciate the tour of the ship. We're going again for Spring Break and will be on the Caribbean Princess. Thanks.

I've done both. Carnival for younger people and Princess is for older people. If you're on a Princess elevator and the doors open and you see a "senior citizen" coming towards you on a scooter...Run for you life!!

We have sailed with Celebrity about five times then tried other cruise companies for comparison. We noticed that the 6th one we did a month ago to the ABC islands was a disappointment. The quality of food has definitely gone down and the entertainment in the theater looks like a low budget production and the bands in the Grand Foyer and Sky Lounge cannot seem to engage the crowd. They actually make them feel sleepy as opposed to be energized into dancing. The cabinet door in the bathroom fell on my wife's leg. The transfer from the airport was also disorganized and in one of the excursions, the tour company left us in the town center and expected us to walk back to the ship for about 20 minutes walk in a sweltering heat. I guess we were just expecting the same old wonderful experience we had in the past five cruises.

Hello, Thank you for the video. One thing that wasn't mentioned is the pool depth? I heard the pool is quite deep approx 5 to 5.2ft but is that the whole pool, the majority of the pool or just a very small part of the pool that's that deep?

We all eventually outgrow the waterslide look for the more traditional promenade. Main Dining room except for the Crown Grill; make dinner the event before seeing the 'late' show. Huge gym with connected machines for competition. Gamble during the wee hours for best air quality. Crews on both lines work very hard on their ship. (SF-Hawaii-Ensenada 12/2/24 to 12/18/24.)

Both packages like MANY cruise lines are way overpriced! My wife and I are not alcoholics. If you are alcoholics then these packages make complete sense. If you are addicted to staying plugged into the internet then you need these packages. I can’t imagine paying $120 per day as a couple or a ridiculous $180 per day as a couple for what’s being offered. 7 day cruise an extra $840 or $1260 added on top of a cruise. Wow! Ridiculous!

I just want a cruise that is safe with great entertainment without the worries of crazy folks that like getting into fights. I do travel with Royal Caribbean but willing to pay higher price on more expensive ships to avoid those that are not into no good. I didn't experience any looneys on Royal but i did notice the cheaper the ship is the more you may encounter crazy folk's 🤪. This is why I've avoided carnival.

I don’t like being forced to pay a gratuity. A gratuity is, by definition, a result of being grateful for exceptional service. If I’m forced to pay it, it is just another fee. So they’re forcing me to be grateful. Kinda stupid.

Terrible top 5! These are all discount cruise locations! Nothing on ABCs or Barbados or St Thomas or St Martin or Antigua or the list goes on…..

The last time I was on dream curise me my hubby the food was horrible, know peace fired chicken on that 7 days curise, they have heard to charge food when u can't get decent meal. Gods know been. Cardinal around 5 times witherspoon but I never go back taco be cold bar close early then when u on ground. Also breakfast terrible take 40 mins get omelet sucks I would say owe me but I take big L.

So I have a question. Maybe you don’t know the answer. If both my wife and I get the Plus package, can I let her use my fitness classes?

Did a Carnival cruise over the Christmas week last year on the Elation. Guy's burgers are great. Blue Iguana is also very good. The main dinning room seems to be hit or miss. We had some very good meals. However, the everyday chicken option was dry and not very good. This April we are doing a Panama Canal transit cruise on the Legend. Booked a couple of speciality dinning's. The Steak house and the Chef's table dinning. Should be interesting.

My wife and I always get the premier package for the photos alone. When the cruise is a distant memory the only thing left will be the photos.

Royal Caribbean food as fallen so much

Great job but I do want to offer this advice to cruise reviewers. I have a different idea of what "dated" means than you do. To me, that's a modern ship with a sense of keeping some nostalgic elements within it. The stateroom isn't all that dated, it's just not the latest trend. To me dated is CRT-TVs, not colors of carpeting or cabinetry. But that's not the main thing. What is older and younger is vague. When you are in your early 20s, older is 35-40. When you're 35-40, older is 50 and up. Wnen you are 50, maybe older is 65 up. It's different for different stages in life. So, I'd prefer an exact age range be stated. We're not all the same age viewing these videos so I'm not always sure what is meant by "older" because that's a relative term. But you say 50s and up, that's specific.

I'm bummed there isn't a Broadway show on the Wonder.

Why doesn't anyone tour the smaller interior cabins like the 2V which are perfect for solo cruisers. There are some on deck 6

I went on a smaller royal for my first cruise then i went on the venezia and the celebration and loved them both to be honest i love both cruise lines but royal is a little more on the expensive side

My family loves cruising ever since our kids were young. We do 1 Royal and 1 Carnival trip a year. Royal used to be better and worth the extra money. Over the past year or two Royal has gone down. Icon was just so darn crowded when we cruised with long lines everywhere and people pushing and shoving and the food was just ok. Not bad but not great. The free food on Carnival is defiantly better and Carnival has a better value and the ships did not feel a crowded.

Thank you for the great video. I have noticed this year specifically Royal Caribbean's buffet is not nearly as good as it used to be. Their MDR has also gotten a little worse also. I also had a toilet flood my cabin on Harmony of the seas and got poor customer service. I plan to try the Celebration soon and see how Carnival compares. Carnival already seems to be a better value.

Dressel being on site is huge my friends all use it. I stay in the cabana and snorkel at the coast. Tip for the ocean here if you sit on your butt at the surf zone you can float on your back and butt past the coral and the rest is sandy once you're a few feet deep

The casual dining on Plus is a downgrade disguised as a perk. They went from it being included in standard to charging for it, and then limiting Plus to 2 included meals no matter the length of the cruise, even though Plus is charged daily.

I have exclusively cruised on Royal Caribbean since 2007 but my last 2 cruises in 2024 were not what I come to expect from Royal so I am trying Carnival for the first time in Dec. The food on Royal has gone down hill and the guest service is not what it used to be.

Food on RC was one of the things that we felt was very mediocre. Perhaps it is good compared to other cruise lines, but it was just okay. Even the specialty restaurants we tried on RC were mediocre.

Celebrity Reflection is the worse cruise ship! No genuine Retreat (RIPOFF) on board. Stayed in a Royal Suite, the ONLY decent thing onboard. Above deck was filled with hundreds of cheap loungers. There is nothing to do - save your money and sail on any other ship. TOTALLY BORING LAME ship with mediocre service.

I likely would have just 3-4 alcoholic drinks per day on a cruise ship (it's a vacation, I need to cut loose). But since I would also enjoy the specialty coffees, milkshakes, sodas, smoothies and other non-alcoholic beverages, I could see the deluxe drinks package working out for me.

Very helpful discussion. We're on the Christmas sailing of the Freedom of the Seas - 24 family members - and it's a tough call on the packages. There are three ports plus Labadee, so getting full value of a deluxe drink package would require 'doubling up' on the sea days, or drinking a number of drinks in the evening when you get back on board. I think there is a tendency to drink more than you normally would in order to maximize value. Given that there are a number of teenagers and even younger children in our group, drinking may not be as much a priority as it would be on an adults only vacation. I think some of our group will be availing themselves of the packages, while others will opt to go 'retail.'
