I always wait for y'all to grind, drill and shave to make something fit. Helps me research the parts that bolt right in before I do it lol.
Haha please let me know what you find. This info i got from the Jeep WJs only group so if you find something better that would be nice to know when i do it on my jeep! It honestly didn't take much effort to grind and drill out the holes. But to put the stupid shroud in that was a pain
Did this on my '04 with 4.0 with appropriate part #'s. The rotation of the fan will tend to tighten it so really only need to rent the tool to remove it. Especially if you used one to install. Also the fluid will settle overnight and the fan will be running and noisy on cold start. This is normal and will settle down in a mile or so. I've read it will hurt mileage by 1-2 mpg but I haven't noticed much difference.
Screw a cluch fan wrench I used a pair of chain vicegrips it work flawlessly when removing the pully
Good video and links, ty
Forgot to spray a little paint so it don't rust but y'all get a little lucky on the west coast rust ain't a big problem like here in the mid west but I still would have but some out of habit, and again thanks for another video use guys are just helpful.
True didn't even think about that since we dont really have to haha
Where are those hood vents from ? Love the video ! I'll be doing the mod to mine in the next few weeks.
According to Martin. If you replace your hydraulic fan with either a mechanical fan or an e-fan, you must replace your stock steering pump with this one (Cardone 20-61607). The reason is because the stock WJ steering pump puts out way more pressure than the stock steering box can handle with the hydro fan now removed. You can actually blow the seals out of your steering box. Also, if you decide to replace your hydro fan with an e-fan, make sure that you actually getting an electric cooling fan and not an auxiliary electric cooling fan. The 2008 WJ e-fan is an aux fan. You need a fan that can move at least 2000CFM.
Do you have to replace it with that one or what other pump would you recommend I have a 2001 jeep grand Cherokee with a 4.7 L V8 with a hydraulic fan run after steering pump and I want to converted to a mechanical fan
@robertgallegos9359 I'm using that same pump but I pulled it out of a 1999 grand cherokee that had a 4.0L
@@cpthillbilly ok thank u man I have been looking for information on what pump to run all I was finding was a pump to a 4.0 I appreciate your reply man thanks again
I ran the steering fluid through the cooling oil radiator
Seems like the perfect setup for hydraulic assist steering. Good info to have. All I need now is a larger reservoir, and I can MAKE that myself.
2:00 When getting a fan clutch for this new fan, you need to look up a fan clutch for a 1998 Ford Explorer 4.0 V6. No sense in having to drill holes in the fan when there's a fan clutch out there that will bolt on and work right out of the box. The water pump fan threads are the same between GM, Ford, and Dodge/Jeep. I've had this mod done to my ZJ 5.2 for the past 9 years. On the V8 ZJ, it involves modding the Explorer fan blade so it has proper clearance. FYI, the best fan clutch for that Explorer fan is the Hayden 2794. The ones made by Torqflo or US Motor Works (sold as Duralast) engage at a lower temp, causing the fan to just roar all the time once the thermostat has opened, or in the case of the USMW/Duralast you installed, is not a severe duty clutch like the Hayden 2794, and will not coll as well. The Carquest fan clutch sold at Advance is likely a rebranded Hayden 2794.
Edit: I see you have the correct fan clutch linked in the description. Just FYI the Hayden fan clutches tend to not include bolts. Since my Explorer fan was pulled at a junkyard, I grabbed the bolts as well. I think they are M10
Thank you
His V8 WJ must be a '99 or '00? It came stock with the efan/clutch fan setup opposed to the hydraulic?
Oh yea I did this when I did a new water pump it's nice
Is it really noticeable?
I’m pretty sure you can use a GM fan clutch, i remember a buddy of mine doing this to another one of our friends jeep. His fan module kept burning out.
how to do this with hydrofan????
You can also use the Dorman 620-149 fan which is 12 blade vs the 11 blade 620-155 both are drop in
Oh nice to know 💪 Paul actually had a different fan but didn’t fit with the shroud which is why we went with this one. The part numbers is all new to me as I didn’t do the research I just showed up with a camera 😂
@@NajarOffroad FAN / FAN CLUTCHES KILL HP / TORQUE ... YOU SHOULD HAVE WENT WITH THE 08 GRAND CHEROKEE ELECTRIC FAN & SHROUD...
Will it run cooler? I'm planning to install a 180 mishimoto thermostat with this mechanical fan
Hello!! where can i get those hood vents? I’m from Spain. I can't find anything similar for my country.
Need to figure out how to do this since my hydro fan never comes on.
What is the fan shroud part number? Is there a slimmer fan shroud that could work.
Or what about a electric fan that comes with shroud that fits the radiator mounts on inside of engine bay.
I cant seem to find the radiator mount clips you thread the bolts into?
My 99 has the clutch fan and an electric one sitting in front of it
Would this also would well for the 4.0?
Is this to replace the hydraulic fan ? To and electric ?
Coolant line, don't you mean upper radiator hose? Where is the Anti-Seize for the fan mounting.
🔥🔥🔥
What is the fan shroud out of
What is the part number for Fan clutch?
What cluch fan from Chevy model to jeep?
And I forgot to ask does this process work for the straight 6 as well I got a 2004 WJ with the Straight 6 and I'm always looking to upgrade so all your videos are so useful and again thank y'all for putting in the time with making these Awesome videos...
Yea but different part numbers check description
@@NajarOffroad thank you, thank all y'all for the awesome videos and great content with all the work y'all put into these video a I appreciate them if I was around I'd give y'all a big pat on the back lol again thank you!!!!!
I also used Ford ranger clutch and fan. Same fan and the clutch is the same as the wjs. Doing it this way is literally plug and play no drilling.
Good to know i thought the ford was for the 4.0 not the v8 or am i wrong?
@@NajarOffroad you can use for both. Haven't had problems on my v8
What year Ranger? Going to try and see if I could find one at the junkyard.
@@johndope2054 blade part number is #620-155 clutch is #2794 and the bolts are m6x1.0x12mm this is plug and play for the 4.7. I forgot Nar has the 4.0
@@johndope2054 I'm sure if you search the part number you'll find the year.
Does this work on the wj v6?
Tha shroud from what truck is it
If anyone wants to do this to a WJ with a Hydro fan you'll have to remove/eliminate they hydro fan set up as well as swap your power steering pump to one without the line fitting for the Hydro fan or at the very least cap off the existing hydro fan lines so as you don't leak power steering fluid..
you'll also want a fan shroud to help direct air flow for better cooling but you don't need the E fan with the 10 blade set up's as it provides more then sufficient air flow to cool the engine instead of the Factory 5 blade style some WJ's (mainly thoese with tow pacakge) were equipped with
Oh yea thats a great thing to know for the hydro fans!
lil cosmetic upgrade for an ever so slightly larger rear view mirror you can get one from Tahoe/Yukon/Silverado that has the Compass display.. super simple Plug n play Mod if you don't have an existing Auto dim mirror the wirring is tucked up under the headliner...gntx-177 Single display is a direct plug n play
some wiring is involved to get a gntx-187 working as it has Temp & Compass feature as it wont read ambient tempature with out a seperare snesor wired to it
i swapped one into mine last year so i can always have a Compass displayed as well as view Gas miliage "expectancy" with out having to cycle through the overhead counsel's menus
@@demonwolfey There's a great how -to vid on it @martinbuilt
Hi, thanks for the info. I have the hdyro fan, do you know from what vehicle the fan shroud belongs to?
How do I know if the fan on my 2004 4.7 is a "Hydro Fan"?
Ask him if he likes those rub rails? I've seen mixed reviews on them.
they are welded onto the clayton kit so its solid
Great videos Najar. Can you answer this, does the fan have to be a puller or pusher, does it matter ? I want to do a fan mod to my WJ 4.7, but not sure which direction is better for faster cooling. Keep up the good work. Thank you.
If your fan is behind the radiator, it needs to be a puller. If its in front, it needs to be a pusher.

What did you do to pass smog? I can't pass DEQ now because I have a code that my electric fan isn't present. I need to trick the ECM into thinking it is still there.
He replaced pcm due to other issues so that didn’t come up
@@NajarOffroad how does the PCM come into it? If PCM is same as ECM or computer, I just replaced mine as well, just replacing it did nothing. Is there a way to have it programmed to where it isn't looking for the electric fan? If so I may order a new one.
Remove the solenoid from the hyd fan motor, and plug it back into the harness connector. Stuff it under your batter tray and done. Your computer will be happy and the code will go away. The computer controls the solenoid, and when unplugged it sees the open circuit and gives you fault.
You don't say if you noticed a difference with it installed. Does it actually seem to run cooler? Mine runs hot when climbing.
Can’t run the Jeep. Didn’t have oil in the diffs
I did this to my wj and it runs a ton cooler up hills and out wheeling. It no longer runs hot at all
Did you do the same thing NajarOffroad did in the video in regards to dropping in the new fan by wiggling it in, in between the fan shroud and motor? Or did you remove the whole shroud?
@@johndope2054 I didn't remove the shroud. I fit it in between the motor and shroud and motor from the top.
Is there any video on putting the electric fan on a switch?
no. What we did is we had an extra wire harness from a light bar and took the plug that was for the light bar cut and connected the wires to the fan and ran the switch inside the Jeep. Only thing we had to do was put a bigger fuse in the fuse holder
@@NajarOffroad okay and it runs just one speed ?! Sounds easy
Yea it’s been fine on Chris Jeep! We use it when offroading and it’s been great at keeping the Jeep at temp
Hey y'all my wife just brought to my attention we have a tent that hooks up to the back of the Cherokee with the back hatch all the way open but we never used it cause of the inside lights staying on but she noticed that it shuts off after 15 minutes is this true or do they stay on any info on this subject is totally greatful thank you.
No they all auto shut off at 15mins. Really fun when working on something and have to keep clicking the rear dome light back on
Where did you get the tent ?
Does this mod work for those of us with the hydraulic fan?
isnt enough clearance i've tried before.. you'll need to remove the hydro fan.. an either 1 rig up an e fan (honestly wouldn't bother unless you want a fall back/fail safe ) or 2 just install an empty shroud without the efan an use exclusively the Mechanical fan.. the 10 blade upgrade from a factroy 5blade WJ fan alone will suffice with more then enough air flow for cooling the 4.7 & 4.0's (the 4.0 is usually what has this done an came default in one's with a the tow package)
@@demonwolfey That was my thought, swap to the early shroud and run just the mechanical fan.
do you guys know the part number of the shroud to be used for this mod?
@@jesusrperezd you can't find them anymore except the junk yard. You're looking for the 1999-2000 radiator fan shroud.
Lucky he doesn’t have to deal with the hydro system like me
What fan shroud is that
Also want to know the part number of this shroud since I have the hydro
52079489AB
So that's a Chevy fan and the clutch is from a Chrysler V8 any chance y'all know what vehicle to look for say maybe if I was looking for these parts in the pic and pull any info
I put a fan and clutch in my '04 WJ inline 6 from an '05 Explorer. Great fit, LOTS of air!
so its different between 4.0 and 4.7 in the description I have the correct parts you would need to get this done on both 4.0 and 4.7. I got the info from the Jeeps WJ Only page which i trust. The clutch we used in the video is from autozone
