Even though it had the pin, I think it's always a good idea to drill a 1/8" hole with tstat on these engines.... I've always installed felpro thermostat gasket dry and never had a leak.

Rear of the head is the temp sensor. Air gets trapped there. Remove it carefully and let the antifreeze flow out. Reinstall sensor. Redline coolant additive also helps lower Temps by 10-15 degrees.

Interesting! I didn’t know there was one in the rear!

What I did was get rid of that piece of junk relay fan and just put a manual clutch fan and it did miracles 😅

I had to replace the radiator on my 03 wj 4.0 a few weeks ago. It stopped leaking coolant but when I took it on a test drive the needle on the temperature gauge went all the way over to the right. So then I changed the thermostat and was still having the same issue. Ended up having to change the temp coolant sensor and the fan relay before the issue was finally resolved.

Same issue on my 4.0 WJ, I've been told only one of the speeds on my electic fan is operating. It should kick up to I higher speed when at 210 but is not. I went to a 2 core rad and it's good until I make slow climbs (Arizona summer is 110+). I blast the heater when it goes over 210 and it get's me up the mountain.

Thanks for the video I will do that to my Jeep WJ 4.0 since the engine doesn't reach 210 or even half of that

I just did the water pump, and thermostat on my 2002 4.0 about a week ago. Make sure you get all the air out. I also realized my electric fan isnt working, so I got the module to install. Hoping that'll fix it. Did the Governor pressure solenoid, and transducer, as well as the 3/4 spring. Mine was broke into 3 pieces. Always another project with these Jeeps.

I had to burp my coolant 3 times to get all the bubbles out. That took care of my issue.

I will try again! I had no more air coming out and I let it cycle but I’ll try to do it some more

I run a 2 row aluminum radiator in my WJ 4.7. I've never had any problems with over heating.

Even if the electric fan is working, the fan relay may be faulty. It may work at times then stop intermittently. I changed mine and haven't had any issues since even without a mechanical fan. If you don't already know, it's under the passenger side headlight. I cut a small piece of bumper out with a dremel to reach it. If not, you have to remove the bumper.

True! Mine is already cut out😂 I’ll be doing the head gasket test this week and then go from there!

You can get thermostats that are not OEM specs to open at a lower temperature as a bandaid to help keep you from overheating as fast I know it's your daily driver hope you can solve your cooling issues soon!
One other minor thing... You should swap those hose clamps on the cooling system to constant tension clamps man. The style you have can stretch and get loose when heating up and cooling. I've had the buckle on one of those break and spray under everything under my hood when the heater core line popped off my thermostat housing.
    Jeep on bro!

It honestly doesn’t overheat quick it takes like 20 mins of driving or going up a hill to over heat luckily I work down the street so it’s been good for now😂
I did not know about that for the clamps! I’ll definitely look into getting the correct clamps!
