I have a question: I got out of the military in march, and began school in august, I started with the VRNE instead of the 911-bill. Are you saying that I can get the higher rate? Or can you only get the higher rate if you'v e already used some of your 911-bill? Also, does getting the higher rate impact your 911-bill? I keep hearing that if you use the VRNE and they give you the 911-bill BAH rate, you're somehow dipping into the 911 bill, and thus sorta using both at the same time.
The law changed recently: Veterans who use Veteran Readiness and Employment (VR&E) benefits prior to using any other VA education program, such as the Montgomery GI Bill or Post-9/11 GI Bill, can still use up to 48 total months of the other educational assistance benefit programs. Ask your counselor if you can elect the 9/11 GIA bill BAH rate if you haven’t already. You should be fine but confirm with your counselor.
I am using vre never touched any other gi bill. I signed thr form you mentioned and they matched the bah rate. I also heard after you finish the training you can get paid while looking for a career/job
Good stuff! Correct: upon finishing the training, your next step will be working with your counselor in developing your Individualized Employment Plan, so that your case can easily be transitioned into employment services upon graduation. A little about that payment….. you are eligible for 2 months of an employment allowance once you are determined job ready. This means that you will receive 2 additional deposits in your account to assist you while you are working or looking for work. Obviously coordinate/communicate that with your counselor.
Thanks! I was trying to decide which I should use first. I’ve heard people got denied VR&E after using part of their Post 9/11 GI Bill, because they could get a job with their current education paid by the Post 9/11 GI Bill.
That’s crazy people would get denied for that but it makes sense. If you already have a bachelors or a masters it will make it a bit harder to argue that you need a law degree to become employable. Still not impossible though if you come prepared and fight it.
Question, what if some only has 60% of GI bill benefits, but still have the full 36 months left Does the VRE rate still give a full E5s BAH rate or would it only match what the servicemember has at the 60%?
Great video, thanks for the info. So, my post 9/11gi bill benefits have expired (over 15 years) I used some of it but had a ton left before it expired. I am currently 100% P&T dissabled.... and trying to find a career through VR&E... is there ANY WAY for me to still qualify for that BAH even though my GI bill is expired? any kind of extension or anything I could get to qualify me for the higher BAH? or am I pretty much stuck with the basic VR&E stipend? any info helps. thanks
Thanks for the information ryan, it helps a ton. How about when its in between semesters, ill be doing fall and spring semesters predominately so will vre cover rent for summer and winter ?
No problem! They won’t cover rent during that off time. For example, if your semester ends on December 15, you would get paid half the BAH rate for that month. So you will need to have another source of income to supplement that month, either Va disability, savings, or a part time job. You could also work with your education institution as a last resort and take out a small loan to cover those housing costs. I would try not to go into debt though personally but either way you are winning
Full-time? Entire BAH of institution ZIP code. 3⁄4 time? 3⁄4 BAH of institution ZIP code. 1⁄2 time? 1⁄2 BAH of institution ZIP code. See § 21.260(c) Subsistence allowance. I am not seeing how many credits equals what is full time and half time. Guess that would be specific to your program.
Hi cute dogs I just got a question how many days do I need to left you post 9-11 then I can transfer to vr&e bah? Is that work if I only have one month left of my post 9-11.
I was told you cant receive post 9/11 BAH if you take online classes. My school in Austin, Ill be taking classes full time in Oklahoma. My buddy was getting 9/11 BAH but he using VR&E for a masters now. He took all online classes as well
I’m currently in an electrician apprenticeship with a union. My GI bill BAH goes down every six months. Does any one else know if the Voc Rehab does the same?
So i have full 36 months of my GI bill left and I just got approved my vr&e, does it mean i have to use at least one month of my gi bill to get full bah when im transferring over to a vre?
No you’re good to go. “Will VA deduct my VR&E benefits from my VA education entitlement? If you use VR&E benefits, we won’t deduct entitlement from your other VA education benefits, like the Post-9/11 GI Bill or the Montgomery GI Bill.” Just good to start VRE with some post 9-11 benefit left for other reasons.
Thanks! I have my first appointment with my VR&E counselor on December 1st. I’ve been out over 17 years, burned through my GI Bill (because I didn’t understand or reach out for help with my then undiagnosed PTSD & Depression) and have no degree, and because of my knee/back disabilities I cannot walk or sit for too long. I’m afraid they’re going to just turn me down and I’ll be left with little other options than fighting the VA for disability benefits that could take forever, if ever, to come in. I have been denied twice for my mental health stuff and am currently appealing. I have other claims in the works, but who knows how long it’s going to take them to deny me on those too! Lol
Good luck brother. I just became a VA accredited attorney and I’m going to be helping veterans soon with disability claims. Crossing my fingers your appeal works out and you have a smooth first appointment
Thanks for the video Ryan. I'm in an electrical engineering program and was recently approved for VR&E. Looking forward to this next opportunity.
I wish I would’ve known that before exhausting my chapter 33….
What if you started with VR&E without accessing the post 9/11?
Thanks for making the video!

Is it true that the cap for housing allowance is only up to 3,200 even if you still have GI Bill left?

@EnlistedtoEsquire thank you for that. She told me that I am elegible for 1 month once i receive my license.

You will rate 100% of the pay no matter what. As long as you have any gi bill. Doesn’t matter if you got 60%. On vr&e you will get the full thing

How many days or months of post 9/11 gi bill do you need to have left to qualify?

Full-time?
Entire BAH of institution ZIP code.
3⁄4 time?
3⁄4 BAH of institution ZIP code.

You get an online bah rate unless you have one in-person class.
does it take away anytime from post 9/11? I think my counselor don't know whats going on.
@@EnlistedtoEsquire
So I have the Post 9/11 that has the expiration timer. I have one month left, but it expired last year. Would I still qualify?
I don’t see anything saying you wouldn’t, I’m interested to see what your counselor says.
My counselor said no@@EnlistedtoEsquire

Yess it does the same
Thanks Ryan your outro music came in too early.
I'm assuming Montgomery gi bill, you have nothing, right?
Yes, that’s the same assumption I would have. Worth bringing up to your counselor though.
I got out the army in 97. Can i use vr&e?
If you have a service-connected disability rating of at least 10% from VA, yes
