I've been an Objectivist since 2008 and at that time I thought that perhaps using the word "selfishness" was wrong and should have strictly stated "rational self interest." Eventually, the more of her philosophy I read beyond her excellent (and long) novels, I realise that it is in fact the correct word and what it means to those who follow religious, Marxist and other collectivist doctrines, is wrong. The same applies to "altruism" which was coined by Augustus Comte, meaning the worship of others. It does not mean kindness or benevolence--again as the collectivists would have you believe--but it is outright rejection of the self and any altruistic action requires a sacrifice of the self for lesser or no value to it.
I'm a big fan of your channel. I think your interactive interview style is engaging in the best way, and elicits some thoughtful responses from your guests.
I don't know why your channel hasn't grown more, but UA-cam does eventually reward intelligence and quality with a similar audience. So, I will content myself to confess that I was a fan before your channel got huge.
This really made my day, thank you! ♥️
It means a lot to know that the style and ideas are resonating 🙏🏻 Would love to hear if there are any particular topics you would like me to explore.
I like the topics you are choosing, they have connection to each other and form an intelligent thread
Keep looking into what others are afraid to see, and you will continue to find answers that help make sense of this brief time we call human existence.
Selfishness, in HER respect, is misunderstood entirely. It is humanist in that it posits, a priori, now. Everyone else is concerned with then and therefore concepts of how.
Thank you for your beautifully presented podcasts which l find to be most fascinating. I personally have my doubts about Ayn Rand's "Objectivism' which l believe has led to self interest avove all else, neo-liberalism, the fragmentation of tje collective and ever increasing levels of inequality.
There's no such thing as a "good narcissist".
I agree . Nor healthy narcissim. That's an oxymoron.
i guess in this case she just means healthy self-interest. but indeed I would not call that narcissism which would be in service to a false self to the detriment of others (and the real self at that). but at the same time that's okay because most people think that's what it means. colloquially narcissist means selfish person lol
just discovered this channel, keep up the good work.
I don't get Ayn Rand.
