The smart scale marketplace might look a bit overwhelming and unnecessarily complicated at first glance. Just try searching in Amazon for one and you’ll end up with hundreds of results mostly in triple-digit prices. Even when you factor in customer reviews and popularity, narrowing down your choice is tricky because we all have different needs. Plus if you don’t have another smart scale to compare to, it’s hard to figure out which ones are truly superior. On the surface, you would expect the smart scale to track your weight accurately and consistently and log the results, but from my experience, things can range from going well to just flat-out falling apart. So I’m excited to review a Renpho smart scale to see how it stacks up.

How to choose a smart scale
For a smart scale to be good, there are a few conditions that need to be met. First, the design and materials should be good enough to withstand long-term use across different body weights and sizes. Second, the technologies powering the scale should be competitive offering some other means of accurate metrics and finally, the companion mobile app should be intuitive, stable, and reliable in keeping a good history of said metrics. Getting both the hardware and software to work in harmony is the trickiest part and many companies like Renpho are gunning for that lucrative top marketshare position all for the mutual goal of improved well-being for all. I will review one of Renpho’s most popular offerings - the Renpho Elis 1 Smart Scale to see if it ticks all those boxes.
What you get with the Renpho Elis 1 Smart Scale
Being positioned as a value product, you won’t find an overwhelming amount of features in the Renpho Elis 1 package. Aside from the black smart scale itself, you will find a trio of AAA batteries along with a user’s manual. Be sure to check the packaging or product description before you buy because some units come with a non-removable battery that you can only charge via USB. USB charging is convenient but all batteries, rechargeable or not, have a lifespan. For a product that doesn’t sip a lot of power daily, using AAA batteries is just more practical and you can always opt for rechargeable AAA batteries if you wish to save some money.
For the best app experience, Renpho recommends you sign up for a Renpho account. If you aren’t comfortable doing that immediately, you can choose the “Guest Mode” option on the app to enjoy most of the Renpho Elis 1 Smart Scale features minus the ability to sync the data to the cloud. I commend Renpho for offering this option to those privacy-conscious folks.
    Set up Process
Whether you decided to sign up to the app or not, you need to provide your gender, name, birthday, height, and weight as the app will factor in these details when generating the smart scale outputs. Finally, the app also provides an “Athlete Mode” option which you can enable if you frequently work out so the scale can properly calibrate itself for more accurate body fat and muscle mass measurements.
Once you finished that part, Renpho will guide you through a short three-question survey with an option to skip it. The app offers a short tour of the things you can do and teaches you how to add and pair your device with the Renpho Elis 1 Smart Scale. The entire setup process was pretty straightforward and the same app provides easy access to a customer service bot which you can contact whenever you have issues or concerns with the app or any Renpho product.
Renpho Elis 1 Smart Scale Metric & Features
The Renpho Elis 1 Smart Scale quickly calculates and logs your body weight along with 12 other essential body measurements including BMI (Body Mass Index), BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate), body fat percentage, body water percentage, visceral fat, muscle mass, bone mass, skeletal muscle, fat-free body weight, protein, metabolic age, and subcutaneous fat.
Overall review: Renpho Elis 1 Smart Scale
I’m blown away by how well the Renpho scale works, particlualry when compared against other expensive and flashy smart scales. Renpho Elis 1 is far and away better than a Withings Body + and a sleeper hit you should absolutley consider. It’s simple to set up, pair, goes straight to logging the weight and those body metrics, and works seamlessly. With a $29.99 USD asking price and free app and tracking, the Elis 1 is an absolute steal. Run, don’t walk to your online retailer of choice and add it to your cart now.

Accuracy?! I was hoping you were going to compare it’s accuracy to proven BMI and body fat results.

This is one of the finest reviews I've ever seen. I was genuinely impressed by your direct approach and the considerate manner in which you showcased the features of this scale. I just got this scale yesterday, and I'm really enjoying it.

I purchased one of these about a month ago based on your video. My old body fat scale was inconsistent: I could step on it and be 205 lbs, step of, back on, and be 210 lbs! This one works much better.

I bought the Renpho scale relying on this review.
The Renpho scale is inaccurate for body fat and muscle mass : they go up when my weight goes up and down when my weight goes down => from one day to another. I am disappointed and will resell the Renpho scale.
The Withings Body+ scale is more reliable than the Renpho scale.

Great review. Very informative and straight-to-the-point. In case you're still monitoring comments and questions, can the scale sync different users to different Fitbit accounts? Both my wife and i are wanting to use the scale with our existing Fitbit data and don't want to manually enter data.

I love mine, what's just crazy is that on Wednesday I weighed in at 160 lbs and Friday I weighed in at 156 lbs, I don't see how my weight could change so much, possibly because some days I only eat 1 meal, and I fast differently everyday. It did take a while for me to be able to start the app and get my weight. Open the app first then step on the scale or step on the scale then open the app.

Generally the more you fluctuate the higher fat cells you carry.. water etc will impact these cells which can cause higher fluctuation then someone with lower BMI.

How does this scale work with my Fitbit?

  • @bennguyen1313
    @bennguyen1313 11 місяців тому

Looking for multi-user friendly.. i.e., If two people will be using the scale, how easy is it for the scale to save the data to the appropriate profile/user?
Does the scale or app need to connect to the internet, or is everything done on your local network / app? For example, is the data stored on the phone, or is there some cloud service involved where if the company goes out of business the scale or app won't work?
In terms of data, just something that charts weight, body-fat and bone-density over time would be nice. But how accurate is it? Been debating whether to get the RenPho, Etekcity, Withings , Wyze Smart Scale S, Yunmai, ABLEGRID , eufy Smart Scale P2 Pro, Lepulse.. but haven't seen any comparison on which one is the most accurate for body fat and bone-mass measurements (compared to gold standards like Dexa scans).

I have a question about the Renpho smart scale you are reviewing. Does the app on my phone need to be open to record my weigh in and info? I always weigh my self first thing in the morning, pre shower. I never bring my phone or open it until I have my shower and shaving done. If I don’t have my app open, but my phone would still be in BT range, will my weight and stats be recorded? Thanks, great review, saved me from the scale I was looking at getting.

I just got this scale yesterday & it's been very easy to use. However some of the metrics seem off. How am I 5'11" 222lbs, with 46% muscle, but 151lbs of muscle mass, 41 yr old with a 47 yr old metabolism, but can shed weight in no time with minimal caloric decrease & only moderate increases in training intensity. I'm gonna go into a caloric deficit for 2 weeks & see what the #'s say.

This scale is not accurate at all. Every morning I step on the scale a few times when I first wake up and get different values that are sometimes 1-2 pounds different. It’s impossible for my weight to fluctuate by 1 to 2 pounds in 5 seconds.

I HATE, HATE, HATE ELECTRIC SCALES!!!!! I have got four in the last year and they have ALL broken during that time. My last set was the renpho and today they will not fucking work. I put a 20kg weight on there AFTER I CALIBRATED and it thought there was more than 20kg. My overall weight is thus too high. I have changed the battery too. Guess how old these scales are? ONE FUCKING WEEK!!!!
HATE THIS SOOO MUCH!! FURIOUS BEYOND MEASURE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
