One thing to note when sorting by downloads is that it HEAVILY favors romhacks that update frequently. Romhacks that release a single version without bugs tend to be pretty far down on the list.
Right?! This channel should be WAY bigger. Im def gonna be spreading the word to my network of nerds. This wrong must be righted! ....my network is only like 4 people sadly.
This was a pretty solid list, I'm surprised a few were missing, but I can't complain about someone's preference FYI, I'm actually the co-developer of RotDS, and I appreciate the shout out thanks a lot 😊
And just when I was catching up on missed content from a couple months ago, a new one pops up. Your timing is unparalleled, Cap. Top video as always. Have a great one.
Wow, Metroid Zero Super Mission sounds really nice!! Ah, the number one romhack is actually one I know and have played. Do make more of these videos. I enjoy them a lot.
Wow! I pride myself on wasting hours on youtube. This channel is a gem! How is this channel not 10X bigger?! Fantastic list too. Its so cool we live in a time where Nintendo is totally cool with the emulation/hacking scene (that was a joke).
The SNES has so many good rom hacks that it seems impossible to choose only 50! Super Mario World alone has hundreds of rom hacks! I actually really like some of the MSU-1 patches that allow many classic SNES games to have a CD-quality soundtrack. It basically feels like an SNES CD!
0:56 Yes. I play the translation of SMT for PS1 and it's probably in the top 5 most difficult RPGs I've ever played. The atmosphere is also amazing, truly a great horror game. I've not yet completed it because Dark Souls was easier. Wizardry is worse, but this is way up there on difficulty. Your roll can lower stats when you level on Wizardry.
If I were to name rom hacks I'd like to see, it'd be SNES-style Legend of Zelda and Zelda II, SNES-style Megaman 1-6 and GB Megaman(s), SNES-style Castlevania 1, 2, 3, and SNES-style Metroid 1, 2
Final Fantasy IV ultima is the best final fantasy romhack I have ever played, if you like FFIV just play it, it will enslave you by how addicting it is to play it and beat the super bosses
You should do a video on hacks that update the controls and going back to the un-hacked games is near neigh impossible. Like in Earthbound getting rid of 'nothing here', not needing to go through the menu to check items and talk to people (I think you had to open the menu to talk to people). Or Link to the Past hack allowing you to switch items with L and R buttons rather than opening up the menu.
@@CaptainJack1Why are there so many Super Mario World hacks missing from the list? (Luigi’s Adventure OSE, Call of Cthulhu, An SMW Central Production 1 & 2, The Big Boo’s Legion, Super Mario World 2+3: The Essence Star which came the day earlier, Cypher’s hacks from the 2010s, Gamma V’s hacks, Bandicoot’s hacks and yes Crash Bandicoot makes SMW hacks now, Mario’s Mystery Meat, A Super Mario Adventure trilogy, The Second Reality Project 1 & 2 Reloaded, New Super Mario World 1 & 2, the sequels to The 6th Annual Vanilla Level Design Contests, Piranha Island, hendog30’s hacks, Super Mario Omega, Bowser’s Valley, The Secret of the 7 Golden Statues, Super Isokoro Mario World, the Kaizo hacks and other hacks with custom music) Outside of that, nice list (I just wonder if you have played these games and enjoyed their insanity)
i would never count minor hacks into a list like this, nothing against the creators of said minor hacks, but unless it changes the game in a substantial way, you can pretty much use it in conjunction with another patch. the perfect example of this is a simple Link to the Past hack that changes Link's Sprite to be more in line with Toon Link from Wind Waker or Classic Link from Classic Zelda. i use said hack every time where a Hack doesnt change Link's sprite to get rid of that silly pink hair. XD
Happy Juneteth all you lucky hardcore Caddicarus fans out there, you guys should make a fan-made Mega Man-inspired Caddicarus video game call: Caddicarus Vs. I press the Play button, but it doesnt let me play any of the games. It only Plays your video of the games?!?!

Is there a better curated list then?
I'm glad you're making videos, it's a shame that you're so underrated, you definitely deserve more views
Yeah I’m curious if they drink or smoke cause I’m happy to watch ads for them to help fund either of those activities 💯 Ty for the video

Conker's High Rule Tail is my favorite atm, puzzles can be unnerving but a great challenge and i love the references
One of many downloads I've yet to try. FFIV Ultima and Infidelity's new ports of NES games to SNES have been keeping me busy lol
@@Typical.Anomaly now that you mention NES 2 SNES conversions, someone made a SMB level editor for SNES
I love your videos and almost always expand my game library as a result of watching them. Thank you Captain.

Thanks for adding Starfox EX to your list!

Fantastic list too. Its so cool we live in a time where Nintendo is totally cool with the emulation/hacking scene (that was a joke).
Channel still insanely undersubbed 7k is ridiculous
He must have one heck of a day job because he could live off youtube if he wanted to.
Surprised not to see FF6 T-Edition or Super Mario RPG Armageddon on this list

Smoke, Jade and Noob Sailboat were NOT playable in MKII. That is incorrect. They were only hidden characters that you could fight as an opponent.
Another quality video with some quality games! Nice!
Well....looks like I'm heading to the site now! Thanks for this awesome vid!! I'll be getting quite a few of these rom hacks!

A hack I played for a little bit recently that I was impressed with was super junkoid. The amount of effort put into the game is undeniable.
Would love your takes on the best games on each console besides hacks as well!

Final Fantasy IV ultima is the best final fantasy romhack I have ever played, if you like FFIV just play it, it will enslave you by how addicting it is to play it and beat the super bosses
My new EarthBound revitalizing hot springs hack got 5 seconds of screen time in this video and I am eternally grateful.

Watch the part at the end of #45 again and think about it for a second.
