Over the past couple of years the amount of N64 rom hacks that actually work on real hardware has increased tremendously. It seemed for a long time that most rom hacks were going to be confined to emulators.
i appreciate that there are people talking about these mods, the modding community never fails to impress me with what they come up with, especially Kurko's mods, i cannot wait for BK Nostalgia's official release.
All your hacks are great, when I got my everdrive I didn't have an expansion pak, so all I could play was Mario's adventure course. Thanks for keeping me entertained!
hey snooplax! the version of Lucy's Levitation you played looks like the old demo of it and I've since then fully completed the game (a lot more custom assets/finalized level design and modes), but anyways thank you for featuring it this video!
Thanks for another great overview update! You’ve been a reliable source in the Rom Hacking Communities and an inspiration to my channel! My EverDrive also thanks you for it lol
Thanks so much for linking to each hack you mentioned. This is the perfect way to snag these hacks without looking for them each. My hacks collection is lacking, I will add more from these suggestions.
Thank you for Actually putting the links but splitting it up into portions in the video and it lets you go through really fast seeing 46 different roms all in less than half an hour and you provided some video of the hacks and its just presented so well
That was a definitive explanation of all those game rom hacks! Of course, there are two game rom hacks you overlooked is Super Mario 64 Land and Super Mario 64: The Last Impact.
18:38 Grins in the shape of a troll face Anyway I think you should have put Gamma64 in there too, it *is* console compatible and is very close to release as well
You should make a video of bizarre N64 compatible roms. I have one that is dragon ball z Mario kart that usually gets a laugh out of friends at parties.
Play Flappy Bird 64 and also Wanted 64 on your Nintendo 64 today! Wanted 64 totally does not have a persistent reproducible crash that i've been delaying fixing since release!
Thank you for this list I have been waiting for this for a while :) I got an EverDrive 64 in April of this year and was wondering what new games are console compatible. Thanks for the info. Also one game that is also console compatible is the Dragon Ball Z reskin Mario Kart 64 mod, but yeah it's just hilarious it's basically the same game but with reskins and voice mods. I thought of a few games that would be really fun to stream (not self promo-ing just saying) and I appreciate this video so much and appreciate you being one of the main people to inspire me to get an EverDrive 64. What an awesome video! I'm working on a curated list of "best" N64 hacks, one per game. Your video helped a ton in finding hacks I'd never even heard about. Thank you so much for all the work you put into this video. Must have taken you a lot of time! Out of all the SM64 hacks, which one do you consider the "best"?
19:28 Lmao. Also, yeah. Zelda Randomizer is very fun. I can remember back in the day when people thought OOT randomizer would never be able to work because of it not exactly being linear compared to MM where the only thing stopping full nonlinearity are a few itemchecks. It's so funny to see how it evolved into one of the coolest randomizers in nintendo-history, only topped by randomizers that literally shuffle gamedesign around.
Quick Question Since you've uploaded this as a revisit : Did you ever find the download Link to Super Mario 74 for console ? on the original video it still says " download link to come" Keep up the great work with these videos ! Would love to see a yearly revisit to new titles playable on console !
Hi, I've been trying to reply with a download link, but I think UA-cam keeps removing my comment - I'm guessing it's because of the link? If you check the video description of one of my recent videos called "Regarding Patches", that's where you can find the link to my console patches for Super Mario 74 (and a few other hacks I've fixed).
there isnt really any gamecube modding going on, a little but hardly enough to make a video on, considering how advanced the console is compared to an N64.
All I hope is a Mario Kart 64 multiplayer hack with the following: 1. "No item" mode 2. Option to use the original Japanese billboard graphics 3. Use same character, with each racer having 4 different color palettes to easily distinguish player in mirror matches 4. Enable BGM in 3-player and 4-player games, with the L button adjusting BGM volume
Sapphire Didn’t work for me. On Console it crashed and on emulation the Name of the mod at the very beginning was the only thing that was visible on screen. After that the screen went black with the file select music running. Other than that the other ones worked well. Although you are right about the flickering border on Christmas Dream.
I wish the MM rando actually would let you remove non-MM music, but still keep random music. Also is there a way to not lock certain items behind minigames? I really don't want to have to do the same minigame 3 times to find out it something that I lose at the end of the cycle.
you can enforce junk items for locations if you want. not sure if that is what you are looking for, but if you don't want to do a certain minigame [like the archery minigames for example] then you can make it so nothing important is locked behind there. but besides that, you can't really make it so certain items can't be locked behind it.
Yeah, at that point it’s a PC game that needs an external loader. If it doesn’t run on a specific console it’s not part of that console’s software library. If you can do it with add-on chips in the cartridge or an external dongle that can be attached to real hardware I can sort of see giving it a pass, but if it just straight up isn’t going to run on a real machine, no way.
This is soo sick. kinda embarrassing, but I can't figure out how to put these rom hacks on my everdrive exactly. I put other roms on it, but I cant figure out how to put these on. Do you know any source that shows exactly how to do it? Appreciate your work on the n64 dude.
You forgot to mention both DK 64 Switch Kongs anywhere, as well as the 12th Mario Kart 64 stage (since you mentioned there was 12 but you only mentioned 11 of them).
you should also go check out Antdude's rom hack videos and just check out the modding scene as a whole, there are a bevy of gaming treasures just waiting to be unearthed.
Can anyone please recommend a good tutorial/channel on how to actually rom hack an N64 game step by step? There is a game on the console I really want to get into to see unused assets of what could have been and what not. Thanks in advance!
2 things i feel i gotta say about the OoT stuff. 1. Missing Link is EXTREMELY good, but i wouldnt say it feels like it "seems so official". SOME areas do feel real legit like the early underground area of the forest. and the writing is really "rom hack writing" if that makes sense. 2. in the Legend of Peach, im more than sure its not a model import and is made using OoT assets and that one map builder tool. its just that some model details seemed off compared to the actual Mario64 stuff. i could easily be wrong about that, but somebody rebuilding the maps from the ground up just sounds more impressive. also i didnt realize Kurko was becoming the Kaze of Banjo Kazooie rom hacks. we need somebody for OoT/Majora rom hacks! lol
no offense to Kaze but Kurko is an entirely different animal, he is leading the charge to bring BK modding into the spotlight instead of Mario hogging it all. lol
@@UltimateGamerCC i cant deny that since he is practically the only one making great BK romhacks. but thats still comparable to Kaze. Kaze is like the only Mario64 romhacker i know of that churns out good and balanced romhacks. a large part of the exorbitant amount of Mario64 romhacks are for speedrunners so there is an insane skill ceiling or they are essentially shitpost romhacks and it really doesnt help that Mario64 is the easiest to make romhacks for. there just needs to be more of a community for BK modding to work on the tools to make them more streamlined and user friendly. on a slightly unrelated note, Ocarina of Time is apparently difficult to make romhacks for, but that decomp of the code is practically finished so we may see an influx of OoT "romhacks" from like one guy XD. the question will be if they can get those to work on actual hardware like Kaze and Kurko do.
Will any of these Rom Hacks eventually/possibly be available on actual cartridges to anyone's knowledge? What's the possibility that they may eventually be produced by other/private parties?
Without @Snooplax, I would have just played these on emulator still. But... It's looooads better to play them on the real thing. Thank you Everdrive, and thank you @Snooplax.
Its weird to me you talk up Bowsers Story even though its only up to like, 2 star spirits so far? So less then 20% completed, while other difficulty hacks like Masters Quest and Darks difficulty hack are out with new bosses, mechanics, enemies, everything. I feel like you just grabbed Bowsers Story to fill a slot while the other hacks have so much insane effort and are already completed, just getting balance tweaks. You shouldve mentioned them, and brought up Bowsers Story when it actually gets out of the alpha stage.
Defeats the purpose of classic n64 gaming in my opionion just game on emulator or wait for a mini I don't get why people put SD cards on their systems I love hacks so I see it being useful for this but in my opinion nothing beats swapping out cartridges discs
Over the past couple of years the amount of N64 rom hacks that actually work on real hardware has increased tremendously. It seemed for a long time that most rom hacks were going to be confined to emulators.
