ive swapped a 1kz (japanese import) into my 106, i did it on the original mounts and with 3L transmission g52. the engine is fully mechanical and im using a 3L mechanical pump without a boost compensator. still has a looot of torque especially down low especially with the straight ss 2.5 inch piping and ss snorkel and the hilux has bcome a beast. the gear is handling the torque well. ive freshly painted the car gun metal gray with a powder coated flat tray at the back. its been lifted by 2 inches. fuel economy is quite better now too. cheers from Pakistan: rooftop of the world
I live in the US and just imported an H100 Hiace into the states. Would the 1KD fit in the engine bay? It's a factory diesel so I'd prefer to keep it diesel and I do like the tuning potential the KD has over the KZ.
@@FavroPerformance my main concern is on the actuator... I've done some research on the parts En all I know I can easily get a front diff /front axel with everything in it, the gearbox en the shaft for under R30, 000 here in south Africa (from a donor car of course) En that would make the process pretty much bolt in..... But the actuator that's where the stress is at... Like do I need a whole new harness or there is a separate gearbox / transfer case harness?.... En I'll have to change the claster too for the 4 wheel drive one of course
The owner has a transfer from a 1KZ which has the shaft output on the correct side which he will be throwing in himself once he gets the car back. We would have done it but he had to get the box from his farm and he was happy to do the rest himself.
Yeah, I’d like the extra power and deffo the better economy, but those 3L’s are just so perfectly uncomplicated and reliable. I’ll be keeping it. But this is a great vid and a great conversion.

Nice job guys, makes me want to put one in my LN65
Howd you end up sorting out the transfer case, very curious

Not sure on that one but I would love to know.
The 1KD is a very compact engine and I believe it can fit in a lot of applications.
Anywhere with a 1kz you can fit a 1kz they’re the same block
8:44 1kz torsion bar hilux runs r151 with right hand drop transfer which would suit your needs, don’t know if you sorted it yet but if not now ya know
Yeah 100% that’s the one.
Love how modular Toyota make stuff hahah.
As for the sump, the 1kz sump and oil pick up will bolt onto the 1kd and be the right shape to not get smashed by the diff
Very good to know, I’ll have to look into that for sure 🤟
needs a heavy duty clutch standard is shocking works like a treat with excedy or outback extreme clutch your choice
Hi guys! why dont adapt the oem gearbox? I want do the same, install a 1KD engine but with the oem gearbox
most likely better ratios in the newer gearbox, those newer ones cruise real nice on the highway
Is it posible to convert a 4x2 N70 to a 4x4 and what would I need... I need help before I start
Yeah you can. The list is large so i can’t answer it in the comments

@@FavroPerformance.
Did the gearbox from the 3L mate to the 1KD??
Are the engine mounts the same?
What did you end up using for the dash ??
Haltech IC-7 with 3D printed surround.
Been wating for this to happen

@@FavroPerformance so good
Does the original 1KZ transfer fit well into the original 1KD transmission? Or do I have to put an adapter plate?
I dunno man, the old 3L only needs one wire.
Hahaha I agree
That’s why I have it in my car srill
