I am blessed to own an 83, and my dream is to restore it just as immaculately but on a friendly budget. I truly have no major experience with any type of tools, but anything can be done with want and desire. I just have to work slowly and methodically. I'm super excited about this build, and now I have a complete how-to video thanks to this channel. Thank you very much, and God bless your channel. 🙏 I look forward to all your upcoming videos!!!! 😊
What a dream. These trucks, and especially their 20R, 22R, and 22RE engines are amongst the best ever made in history. I will never forgive myself for getting rid of my 94, but glad I was able to snag a nice 89. Thanks for this vide, very nicely done.
You've got me on the edge of my seat waiting for the next episode/s for this build series. It's great that Jock & Jesse are getting the spotlight to showcase what they are truly passionate about!
Thanks Jocko for allowing us at Blasting Painting Services to be a part of your project. Looking forward to sending you some footage the final product once we have finished sandblasting and applying some primer. Great to meet you guys!!. Thanks again also Damo. Good to see you again mate.
I like this detailed step by step-by-step video. Most restorations skip the smaller details because they assume everyone knows how it's done. I am looking forward to seeing the next video. After all the work is done I hope you keep it as a daily driver or touring rig so it doesn't get beat up on tough tracks.
My first 4x4 was a brand new 1980 Toyota long bed. I loved the factory flared fenders and the round headlights. Never thought square headlights looked right on the Toyotas or the Jeeps. I've not been without a 4x4 since then. 🙂
My father's isuzu bighorn under the driver side it had a HUGE hole fro rusts, we never noticed it until we removed the seat to deep clean it. He instantly bought it to the shop to get it welded. We were very very lucky that nothing happened while driving
Nice. Look at the classic Red Marlin Crawler truck for inspiration, that thing is an icon in my world. I believe his is a 1980 but same body style. I've got an 85 4runner that just got back on the road/trail last winter after a 2 year rebuild. Upgraded engine and drivetrain, dual tcases, high steer conversion, upgraded brakes, lift, tube work... Toyota minitrucks are the best. Definitely will be watching to see where this project goes.
Can’t wait to see the end results of all the builds coming up! Jesses GU will be an animal and Jockos hilux will be a neat one, maybe to go out and do some old school wheeling with Shaunos OG dirty thirty comeback! Keep up the awesome work! 😃
As I watch this, I a just glad that someone on the other side of earth loves Hiluxes as much as I do and if fate takes me to Australia, I'd be more than stoked to meet up with this fellow enthusiast. All the best mate,
I’m looking forward to this , I had one of these brand new when I first left school 2L petrol , I can’t remember how much money I wasted on it , lift , tyres wheels paint exhaust etc ,it was the burnt orange colour loved it , they would go anywhere because their power to weight ratio was good, only real problem was corrosion in the tub Good luck with the build Cheers
It's great to see you're restoring the old hilux as there getting harder to find without to much rust. It's awesome to finally see it's been a long time waiting for this
Absolutely love watching this. One of my favorite 4wd machines, and my first Toyota, was a '79 Hilux. Would love to find another one to restore. Looking forward to more episodes.
Great watch just got a 81 lux with tub, single owner and all the paper work from first sale with 150km on her, personally love the few dints hear and there with a bit of surface rust personality
Now that jocks finally getting this old girl back up and running again whould make for a grate episode to get the luxsy the dirty 30 and shorty and have all 3 do a trip together again whould be awesome
I’ve have had of few of those “pickups” here in the US. 1978 1 ton flatbed, 1981 and 1983. My only complaint is the small cab for us 6’ plus tall fellas. My favorite that I had to sell to finish my last home remodel in 2019 was an 87 Xcab DLX 2wd longbed. The Xcab was amazing for the additional space for my driving comfort!
Another tip: After all your panels are primed up, refit the lot to the vehicle to get the gaps, alignment and body lines perfect as you panelbeat and repair dents. No doubt Damo and Sam will be all over this part of the resto process though! Loving this series, keep up the good work. 👍
Omgggggg ! Yesssss ! ! 😎 0:41 ~ that was a Texas truck (red) it has Texas plates and registration sticker on the winshield .. WooHoo ! ! a big ol' HOWDY from Stagecoach , Texas 😇❤
I'm enjoying this rebuild series as well as Jesse's rebuild series more than the dirty 30 rebuild series I think because they are home garage jobs with specific explanations on exactly what is happening with more people in this position themselves with home rebuilds. Nice one Jock. Keep up with these types of rebuild series and the 1m subscribers may end up 2m 👍🏻
This is Gold. Keep em comin. I miss clips like the 4WD Action of old. Catering to blokes that wanna have a crack instead of the blokes that need the "do not drink brake fluid" sticker.
Planning on doing the same thing to my D22 Navara, had it for three years still waiting on tools and parts, thanks for the vids mate can't wait to see it finished, cheers take care 😁👍
Loving the build Jocko! Being an apprentice trimmer myself, I would love to know wether any interior work is being done on the lux (headlining, seats, dash) would be a good idea for a different video too if you can get someone experienced in to give some tips and tricks.
Love this series! Hope to see the other episodes soon! My son and I have two hilux that we are doing up, a ‘80 first gen single cab long bed and a ‘85 second gen xtra cab.
It’s really hard to find people like Damien and Sam that still do the proper ways, not cutting corners and have all that knowledge they have accumulated over their years in the trade. Really keen to see the end result of this resto 👍
God I wish I owned a epic 4WD, would love to own an absolute mad 4WD to go touring around Australia. You boys certainly dragged me into buying a 4WD, I can’t wait and I love it.
The vehicle type doesn't matter, it's super interesting to see how this all comes apart, gets worked on, then goes back together. That last bit is always the part I get wrong 😂...
Nice to see you guys getting things done properly. On another note . People don’t like sand blasting not cause of the price . Because the matter some blasters use warp all the panels .
Awesome build Jock. Gives me some inspiration to continue the rest of my own build. Lots of body as well as mechanical jobbies to be done. Thank you and keep it up mate!!!
Had 30 of these first gen 4x4s over years love them just picked up another 2 owner rn duel cab doing complet resto on it .... herd ln 106 front springs push diff foward few mm xe el falcon wagon springs for rear 🤙 flat leafs flex. stock lift body lift if u really need. that setup flexes better then our other 2 coil 4bs. With all the s.e gear btw dont paint it sandy that coulor is already taken on 2 other first gens 😂👍 keen as to see this thing done and out drive few of the bigger $$$$ builds
Lots of First gen Toyota pickups were shipped with no bed here to the States. Beds were built and installed at the port. Same thing with first gen 4runner rear seats.
I got one I'm doing now it's a 1984 Toyota Hilux. so, I'm really looking forward to this build. I'm learning a lot the way I'm going to do on my build. 🙂
Its great for once to see people like me using the same tools and techniques, not some youtube jockey hell-bent on making it “look good”. I got 3 RN46s and a LN111, all in worse condition, but you guys give me hope that i got half a chance!
You're not wrong mate - but, technically this build isnt new as its been in my shed for a while. Im hearing you and im keen to try something different down the line! Been looking into old Land Rovers actually! Just gotta get this one done first! Jocko
@@mcdoogle456 will keep an eye out for the old landy build, I'm subbed to Crawlerer79 who has some pretty good vids and mods for them. May be worth a look if you've never heard of him
Funny how these blokes deliver better series than Netflix

Jock'os definitely that one mate who always loves old hiluxs.
Just a little tip always find somewhere to lay your door cards flat to store them stops them from bending and making it harder to fit nicely later 👍🏻
Thanks for taking us along for the ride of restoring this nice ute! 💪😃
I was born and raised in one of these. My dad bought a brand new 82 short box/cab brand new the year i was born! Great!
Cheers from Canada!
So good to see a full resto happening on the channel. Can't wait to see this thing when it's finished 👌
Jocko sure knows his stuff. Anyone working with the big guy could learn a lot in no time flat.
Awesome video!! Love seeing Jocko (and Jesse) getting his own build series!! Can't wait for the rest of the episodes!!
More to come!

@@4WD247I have a 1981 Toyota Hilux with a 253 v8
One of my tricks for wire brushing into hard to reach corners ect is a bit of wire rope in the drill, it can go inside things around corners.
So glad to see some Hilux builds . I have a 1989 Hilux I've been working on for a long time and just love this lil 4x4

This is the kind of build we like to see. Good stuff 👍🏽👍🏽
Awesome video as always 4WD 24/7 Crew.
This video is amazing! Very nice editing on the video, the fast pace on the beginning hooks the viewer 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 thanks for sharing great content

Great job Jocko, I love these (and trackside repairs), feel like I learn so much. Keep it up!
Awesome timing for this build I’m building an ln46 at the moment using a ln40 (2wd version) as a donor car.
I owned an 86 2wd for about 15 years. Hands down the best truck I've ever had.
Sounds like it’s the only one you’ve had
beautiful stuff, cant wait to see more of this until its finished

Yes absolutely agree. With a little care and patience warping can be avoided...but doesnt always happen does it? :(
Awesome build Jock. Gives me some inspiration to continue the rest of my own build. Lots of body as well as mechanical jobbies to be done. Thank you and keep it up mate!!!

A worthy cause. A Fantastic vehicle

Gracias, aprendiendo tus técnicas desde colombia! Ansioso por tu nuevo video!
Love to see more from your build ❤, greetings from denmark 😊🇩🇰
Loving this EP Jocko. Currently doing a "clean up" on my GU - and using your info as ref. Watching with alot of interest. Cheers Jocko - stick with it
The rust you call “rust “ is pristine condition to us in the uk ..
Absolutely loved this Lux and happy you are restoring her. Your garage is a hilux lovers wet dream Jock 😂
Thanks mate! not yet but it'll get there i reckon! haha - Jocko

The tan paint ❤👌
You show of Life the lux like it was 7 years ago but looks really good

What a awesome TIP tuck the cord under your arms. Priceless. lol
Started watching this as I'm restoring an 1980 rn46 myself keen to see how your truns out as well as mine!!!
Thank god he built a Hilux, didn't want to suffer some diversity.
Not wrong 🥱
Jocko definitely has a one track mind. OOH A HILUX! I could use one of those ….
It's the reason why Jessie's build has been so popular
