This is a truly beautiful documentary. Watching this 6 years ago was amazing, watching it today when you are that much older and hopefully wiser makes me realize the depth behind this masterpiece. Thanks so much for making this!
I remember the good times of my life playing wow. I don't nor will ever will think of it as wasted time. Now being a business owner I long for the good old times of my life.
The golden age of WoW! I remember watching this live when it was released, and thinking how well this documentary captured how multidimensional not just gamers are but people. We all have ambitions, different goals and challenges in life and we all feel social or other pressures. Showing that even the most consistently dedicated gamers were no different was so unique for its time. This was a time before gamers were paid and marketed as internet and social media personalities, and when gaming as a way to spend your time that was far more stigmatised. It’s brilliant that gamers can monetise their gameplay now, and earn real money, it makes gaming a real and viable career. If this documentary was re-done now, covering todays top players, there’d be a lot less to cover about gameplay, social stigma and motivation to play. It would have to cover business management, the use of follower and fan communities as enabling tools and the monetisation of playtime. There’s pro’s and cons to that, and to what it is now to be a professional gamer in 2022.
you can see none of those guys were adults and if they were they were basically jobless now its not the case, they can turn to streaming as a career you can rave on about the past all you want but current situation is 100 times better
Yeah the instance was a good podcast. Think I was listening to them since wrath of the lich king days before this documentary. Stopped listening when I stopped the WoW addiction back in 2015
Takes me right back to the feeling of the impending guild implosion, that anyone who's ever raided competitively, knows oh so well. The fact that most people's lives--especially if you're in your early 20's--change so much over such a short span of time, has a lot to do with it. Just... changes in priority and commitments.
Ikr, now its really just ran by Method, no other guild really stands a chance, they have killed the competition and its just not interesting to follow the race anymore since its barely a race. When only what....2 guilds, and has a chance to get world first......is it really a race then? Competition feels really dead and a minority of players seems to bother anymore. Most of the top 10 guilds now arent even famous or known within the community. Which wasnt the case back in the good old days. Even a top 20 guild could be famous back in 2004 - 2010
@@xMorbidArtx The difference now is that the world first contenders are basically just eSport organisations who gets paid to play as much as they do. This wasn't a thing back in the day and they are pretty much the only ones who are able to play 18 hours a day while the 15 ish other guilds in top 20 in the world consists of people with real life obligations such as school or work and thus can't dedicate even close to the same amount of time to raid as theese other top 5 guilds. In 2004 - 2010, even the top 3 guilds consisted of people with real life obligations and basically no one was paid to play except the guild leaders. And because of all this it was much more competitive back then.
@@xMorbidArtx The game doesn't foster healthy competition. A lot of gatekeeping, and pay 2 win aspects. The only appealing thing to talented players or upcoming talent is being in Limit or Method which isn't possible unless a bunch of players quit/leave or you grind for 2+ years to have a shot at joining. Being in one of the lower guilds isn't worth it.
Crazy how humble and wholesome Jb is in this video and since has turned into one of the biggest assholes on twitter. Seeing how big WoW expansion launches used to be also makes me feel sad at what has become
I remember this old documentary, was a good one. Along with The Raid, and Second Skin. I also remember cataclysm launch, was there at midnight at GameStop lol. I had fun that expansion Dude I had such a crush on that wow playing Finnish girl on Paragon. She was so hot to me back then, never got to meet her tho didn’t play on her server And that girl Narika from Ensidia, woo so hot but Xeno from Paragon was the hottest. I remember Lights was a big WoW player too. Lady Sinestra was a hard fight I never beat before it was no longer relevant content. Hard boss Was really sad when Paragon broke up, their videos were so good
JB? JustinBlade? Who is JB? We had a notorious Douchebag on our server Demon Soul called JustinBlade back in the day from vanilla to recent. Everyone hated him.
I still remember another versiom of this documentary when it came out. It had a specific guitar intro soundtrack. Wouls really like to see that. Sco was soop tiny in those days haha
There was another version of this documentary a few years back, anyone who knows where to find it? It was a very disinguished guitar themed song and only about the Cataclysm progress.
No they are not. I may be wrong but as far as I'm aware Lawlie left the game to form her own company, and Eric just plays socially and casually last time I checked.
The guild still exists and is actually still playing and pushing content! But no, the original leaders of the guild are not playing in the guild anymore. Allthough they don't contend for world firsts anymore and probably never will again, since Cata or when it was they stopped playing for World First kills, they have consistently been in top 100 in the world every raid tier since! Which is impressive.
whats my problem ive watched this documentary like 100 times now literally lol, ive got some problems put i just cant help it, i hope to one day make a great game like blizzard have done with wow
The oldschool PVP vids with Blood Legion vs. DIE.... man I really miss those. I’d play them at work and everyone else just loved the music so they didn’t mind me watching while working lol.
@@acetown2263 How is it better when the competition is literally speaking....dead?
