This takes me back to the days when growing up in the UK. The songwriters were clever in the way they addressed social, racial, and political ills to music written most often in a major key. Beyond the music of the 1950's and 1960's, it was a defining moment in the mid-70's and beyond for western music. This "ska" music noted the amalgam of reggae and energy of punk rock at an important time of social unrest in the 20th century. No one can forget such bands as The Specials, Bad Manners, and The Selecter (Two-Tone), etc. Even the Police in the early days were listed as "ska punk." One seldom forgets moments of originality.
If you have to argue about exactly what punk "is" then you're missing the point. Punk is all about doing what you want, regardless of what people think of you. It's about being your own individual. That's Rancid.
That's right man... Punk is about really not giving a single fuck about anything. If u dig then that's it.. fuck the rest and fuck what others think about it. Fuck it.
What I love about Punk, is that it doesn't matter what you're wearing is what you feel and what you believe what defines you...greetings from Argentina
I grew up on Rancid and all the early 90's punk... when i was 27, i worked in a denture lab in Spokane, with Lars' uncle. I got to pick his brain about his nephew... it was great.
This video is what turned me on to Rancid and was lucky enough to see them on the Lalapalooza tour in 97 with the Ramones, Sound Garden and Metallica headlining in support of their Load album. This show was out in the country in some farmers field in Ferris Texas. Was an incredible show. Love this band. Long live Rancid.
They were the first band I saw after covid was over. They played with DKM and the Bronx. Once it got dark and the Dropkick Murphies finished their set, a lot of people left, but that's when Rancid got on stage and the real show started!

The funniest thing about all the 'this isn't punk' arguments is what the band would say about it. Probably, they'd give the punkest of answers and tell us they really don't give a fuck what genre anybody thinks it is, they play what they like.
I feel like I'm that one weird black guy lol🤣 everyone has their drakes, lil this and lil that playing while I'm jamming to this song with my headphones on beside them🤣 this tune is really catchy !!
If you wanna make the move Then you better come in It's just the ability to reason That wears so thin Living and dying and the stories that are true Secrets to a good life is knowing when you're through [Chorus] Black coat, white shoes, black hat, Cadillac Yeah, the boy's a time bomb [x2] Well, he's back in the hole where they got him living Like a rat but he's smarter than that nine lives Like a cat 15 years old take him to the youth authority home First thing you learn is that you got to make it In this world alone [Chorus] Now he's gotten out he's gotten free he's gotta go gotta car 21 years old he's runnin' numbers from the bar His pager's beepin' he's got in deep in Whatever he can move on in you know that kid's a creepin' [Chorus] The boy’s a time bomb Tears come from the razor that's been tattooed below His eye his mother cries she knows that he is strong enough To die he's rollin' in the Cadillac it's midnight sunroof is down Three shots rung out, the hero's dead, the new king is crowned. [Chorus x2] Ohh, time bomb
This sounds like a bit of a blend of different genres and I just love it. It has a very positive vibe. Sometimes, I don't really care about the genre but more about the spirit of the tune. I don't want to wallow in self-pity or rage against the machine. I want to rock out and dance happily. I know it sounds weird, but I can people playing this song and seeing their toddlers happily dancing around the living room to this. Good stuff. I like this one.
BLACK coat WHITE shoes BLACK hat Cadillac the boys a TIME BOMB!! If you understand those lyrics you understand why he became a time bomb! Art The Clown!!

Thanks friendo!!! I had finded this song to many years. I listened on the radio in 1995
The funniest thing about all the 'this isn't punk' arguments is what the band would say about it.
Probably, they'd give the punkest of answers and tell us they really don't give a fuck what genre anybody thinks it is, they play what they like.
I really like the bass
please remastered all rancid videos in 4k
Secrets to a good life is knowing when you're through

Right on dude.
Same same...but as a girl. They were my first concert lol!
Ska originated in Jamacia dude. Embrace your blackness 😎
Chicano here, and I bump this at work sometimes and get strange looks. Mean while, I think I heard 1 dude playing taylor swift the other day.....
This way better than today's trap music.
If you wanna make the move
Then you better come in
It's just the ability to reason
That wears so thin
Living and dying and the stories that are true
Secrets to a good life is knowing when you're through
[Chorus]
Black coat, white shoes, black hat, Cadillac
Yeah, the boy's a time bomb
[x2]
Well, he's back in the hole where they got him living
Like a rat but he's smarter than that nine lives
Like a cat 15 years old take him to the youth authority home
First thing you learn is that you got to make it
In this world alone
[Chorus]
Now he's gotten out he's gotten free he's gotta go gotta car
21 years old he's runnin' numbers from the bar
His pager's beepin' he's got in deep in
Whatever he can move on in you know that kid's a creepin'
[Chorus]
The boy’s a time bomb
Tears come from the razor that's been tattooed below
His eye his mother cries she knows that he is strong enough
To die he's rollin' in the Cadillac it's midnight sunroof is down
Three shots rung out, the hero's dead, the new king is crowned.
[Chorus x2]
Ohh, time bomb
Thanks! Almost 20 years later I now know the lyrics.
@@roselamartinez4345 =] Nice.
Is that the Master of Disaster @ 1:09? Sure looks like him. Never noticed before
Jamming to this at age 44 in 2018. Reminiscing of the past!
Roughly the same age. 'Time Bomb' is one of the great reasons to reminisce!
BLACK coat WHITE shoes BLACK hat Cadillac the boys a TIME BOMB!! If you understand those lyrics you understand why he became a time bomb! Art The Clown!!
I loved Rancid even before I knew they were Rancid.
Were you drunk when you wrote this? I don't remember
Funnest bassline ever...
This song brings me back to my earliest days of getting into punk and sneaking downstairs after my parents went to bed to watch this music video on on demand when I was 13.
Saw them at the legendary Riv in my Chicago for their wolves tour in '96. I was a hormone-drivin, rebellious, son-of-a-bitch, fuck-all 16 year old from the big city. Had a hell of a time in my youth, and that nite is one of my dearest memories. Give'em the Boot !!!!!
My father's Ringtone!
I love this song!
This song takes me back to the skate park... I love rancid!
Love this ska-punk sound!
Sang in Hep Alien's Gilmore Girls' band.
