I feel so lucky I got to grow up with this and more music like this on the radio every day.
I used to keep a blank cassette in my stereo and rush to slam the record button when my favorite songs, like this one, came on. I had dozens of mix tapes with songs all missing the first few seconds or with a DJ talking over the beginning of a song, this was definitely one of them lol
I hope kids growing up today look back on their youth and smile like I do when I think of the mid-90's through mid-2000's.
i am 18 now and i am truly glad i discovered GD when i was in 1st grade when my seniors used to perform their songs on events. Since then i have been blasting green day from time to time . but the actual first time i listened to green day was when they were being played on radio and i searched so hard for the song because it was stuck in my head since i was 8 year old and when my seniors played it i finally rediscovered it (the song was know your enemy) .

getting a decent recording off air was a bit of an art. Making sure the antenna had a clear signal and setting up the levels and EQ for it to sound ok on other cassette machines.
I was 9 years old and saw this on MTV. I asked my dad to buy the CD and he never questioned why I wanted the CD or the music itself just as long as I enjoyed it.
To think in 3 years this song will be 30. The 90s seems like another world at this point.

My sister is an extra in the ballet scene.
The apartment scenes were shot in LA since i was there as part of the lighting crew. The shot of them walking around was in either SF or LA . I never saw them although I worked with them two other times. The shots of them were the day before or after.

Even though tastes change and we sort of outgrow some types of music, This song really does hold up and stands the test of time. Classic.
Stuff like Limp Bizkit doesn't transfer, but tbh, good mainstream music died a very long time ago, so most of the old stuff sounds even better now.
It was all downhill from here for Greenday. Dookie was a masterpiece.

Green Day is one of those bands where you look at one of their songs and think "What is this song?" And then you listen to it and you're like "Oh yeah, I've heard this before."
Maybe to kids, I guess? I grew up with this band and they were huge at the time, so there is no "oh yeah" to it for me.

I was born in '81 and I grew up on these guys. Even now, they are still amazing and I've seen them 6 times now and met them all. This is the kind of music that speaks to your soul, cause to me I'm still that burnout. I'll be listening to them till the day I die though.

Rock on! Born in 90 to Gen X parents who were class of 85 and 89 respectively. Grew up at the jersey shore where my parents and their friends went out to listen to cover bands who played in the summer nightly all these kinds of songs. Ofcourse I was the only kid out of them and all their friends. Always remember them pre game to these songs when I was little and watching beavis and butthead with their friends before they went out lol. 90s was truly the last great decade. Anyone saying otherwise probably wasn’t around then. 😅

Can't imagine what it's like discovering this era as a teen now. I was 12 when this record came out and together with Offspring's Smash, Weezer's Blue Album and Nirvana's Unplugged in New York it was the soundtrack of sixth grade.
I still return to all these albums every once in a while, and relive my tee age angst.
i'm teenager now, i started listening to green day, nirvana, offspring, linkin park,... one or two years ago and i think i'm kind of lucky beacause there is youtube and spotify so i can listen to this whenever i want
