I love this lesson and the Jost groove lesson. It is funny how different Jared and Dave are when they host guests. Jared is like oh wow that sounds so cool. Dave is like uurrgggh adding up to 16 is hard 😂😂
Since I‘m German, I‘ve known Jost for years. How have I not seen this video before? Anyway, I’ve seen him live with Disko No. 1 a couple of times. I could never wrap my head around his fills, but this lesson made it so easy! Wow! What a great method (although Dave doesn’t seem too convinced 😅). Thanks for inviting Jost to Drumeo, Drumeo. 🎉
I gotta know... how does Drumeo have a million subs but a lot of these lesson vids don't get near as many views as they should.. 87k? C'mon guys you gotta start watching these amazing lessons!
You are preaching to the already converted here. But the reason is that they simply upload very prolifically. You can't watch everything. That being said, this Jost Nickel lesson is in my top ten.
What a great concept. One could use any rhythm, sticking or grouping and the possibilities would be limitless. You hear fills like this all the time and think " I've got to learn the entire phrase to play like this". The danger with that approach is that you never end up improvising. Jost is such an incredible educator cause instead of teaching the fill, he shows you how to make up your own.
Brilliant and amazingly 'groovy' drummer. He also explains everything in a simple format so everyone can follow and implement quickly!!! Awesome job Jost....and Drumeo.....Keep up the great work!!!
that little bar of 6 bar of 8 groove he was doing at ~3:40 is so smooth it's nearly impossible to lose count. That's one of the most impressive things I've heard in a long time.
Jost is unique bcz he is kind, calm, humble, chill and an amazing musician not just a great and unique drummer. It's shocking to me how the most artistic and tasteful drummers are drawn to Sonor... the most audiblegasmic drums ever created.
Jost is such a bad ass! I've been in a stale place lately, looking for useful material to practice, and I think I just found it. As always, Jost inspires me.
Super cool, these patterns are in a Gary Chaffees book. But going with the Jost' exercise, I've made these combo: 1.- R l l K, L r r K 2.- R r l K, L l r K 3.- R l r K, L r l K . We can use it applying the Jost' number system, its fun.
One thing about Jost I've noticed that I really dig is that he has incredible hihat volume control. Some of my favorite drummers sorta bash away at the hats most of the time. Simon Phillips comes to mind as another person who is careful here. A lesson we can all learn from or be reminded of. Now, I'm not saying it's wrong to chunk the hats but they are very powerful and can easily take away from the groove if they are loud and proud. Ok, that's enough of my opinions I'm going back to practicing.
What an incredible lesson. Jost is so creative and a superb technician. Those two add up to genius in my view. And the solo at the end. I normally don't like drum solos and I am a drummer (trying). But I found myself smiling all the way through to solo. His kit and it's tuning. The cymbal chokes, the I do not know what you call the buzzes and clacks on the snare. These combined with rhythm and a "one" that grounded the solo that came through. And then grooves and fills in a solo context. Wow one just has to listen and watch. The solo is hard to describe but it is just brilliant. Cheers to Jost and Dave and Drumeo.
Yeah and he makes the music stand out. You can hear each instrument so clear. He's dynamic. Gospel drumming is so popular. If you like hearing a drummer solo threw the entire set. Lol. This guys fantastic
I think Jost was the first drummer to inspire me to stop playing absurdly loud and focus more on dynamics. The guy plays with a level of smoothness and finesse that you don't see a lot and still manages to look visually interesting.
I love this concept! I came across a similar sticking awhile back while improvising on my kit but have not expanded upon the idea since. I am looking forward to experimenting moving "2's and 4's" around the kit as well as applying the same concept to other stickings. :-)

Pro tip : watch movies at kaldrostream. Been using them for watching all kinds of movies these days.
@Juelz Tadeo yup, I have been using kaldroStream for months myself =)
Can we all just appreciate he's smoothness for one min..... And he's sick shoe game😂
Und für alle Deutschen: "Oh Johny!"
I love Jost’s approach and laid back feel. He’s also playing one of the best sounding kits I’ve heard on Drumeo!
I love this lesson and the Jost groove lesson. It is funny how different Jared and Dave are when they host guests. Jared is like oh wow that sounds so cool. Dave is like uurrgggh adding up to 16 is hard 😂😂
There are a group of "new" drummers that are really good teachers too, like Jost Nickel and others. Very good 👍
I love watching this guy play.
Seems like he can play all day long and don't get exhausted
One of the best of this generation

I dig everything Jost plays - the guy is just a groove machine!
More of Jost please. He is a great musician and educator. Very inspiring to watch and hear him play, and learn about his concepts.
Sooooooo soothing. Was like a warm breeze
That drum solo is also amazing! Such groove and such technique!
Brilliant and amazingly 'groovy' drummer. He also explains everything in a simple format so everyone can follow and implement quickly!!! Awesome job Jost....and Drumeo.....Keep up the great work!!!
I am German. But after seeing him do the math - I knew we Germans think differently about "fun approaches".
LizardDC : haha Finally A German with humour !
Jost always amazes me: his smoothness and technique are second to none, absoluty worldclass!!
I can only recommend Jost's books! He goes way into depth with these concepts there and you have material for years :D
El lenguaje universal, la música, a pesar de no hablar perfecto inglés, estas clases son muy buenas y muy útiles
Palabra cierta jejeje

His groove and fills are off the charts. Such an underrated drummer.
I'm so happy that Dave is hosting more episodes, great drummer, sweet guy!

This guy is a holy drum player. Loved the lesson and I cant wait to sit at drums to try the sheet!!

the drum sounds were incredible !

DUDE! The end solo was awesome!
Omg this was really game changing for me!! Now i must practice...
On top of being a great player as this guy is, these drums sound incredible! It's that perfect combination of tones! Super earthy 🌎 !!
Great teacher, great playing, I learned a lot from this. I can see/hear why Benny Greb wanted to learn grooves by Jost
I think Jost was the first drummer to inspire me to stop playing absurdly loud and focus more on dynamics. The guy plays with a level of smoothness and finesse that you don't see a lot and still manages to look visually interesting.
Love this lesson! Now my fills will no longer sound stale haha! Will try this approach with odd groupings as well. Thanks Jost! ❤
Great lesson and great guy, had the privilege of having him at our studio for a drum clinic and he was so nice and such a laugh.
Advanced drumming is pure mathematics. I’m lucky to be loving both :)
Jost and Drumeo thanx for another great lesson, i like the LOGIC behind these concepts and it is a great way in getting to understand 'Groupings'.
Loved this lesson, not just a great drummer but also a brilliant teacher
He always makes it look so effortless! Awesome guy!
I love the handwriting at 14:42 thats my kinda Old School! great lesson, great stuff Jost thanks Drumeo!
Man, Drumeo leading the game in 2019. Awesome.... More live bands (like JP´s), pleaseeee!
It is very didactic, I really like his classes.
Great interview.. keep Jared behind the glass
This is my first time watching this video and I absolutely love his style technique sensitivity and feel 👍❤️🙏
Love the colours! Blues and bronze esque
this 2-4 combination works great in a swung eighth note situation (jazz). great lesson; love jost's feel & yummy drum sound.
That was a seriously great lesson. The pattern is very useful. Glad he shared it with us.
That Cruiser Blue SQ1 is making me drool...
Hey, I use this fill pretty much, never thought of playing it on the off beat...good lesson thanks :)
Jost “The Groove Machine” Nickel
Der freshste Drummer schlägt wieder zu !
That first floor tom sounds Godly. Suhh a great lesson - thanks for sharing :).
Jost is great!!
Excellent lesson. Excellent teacher.
Great lesson , great drumming , the kit and cymbals sound amazing !
Now that was really useful, and the key to taking those linear patterns even further. Awesome stuff and drummer.
I love this concept! I came across a similar sticking awhile back while improvising on my kit but have not expanded upon the idea since. I am looking forward to experimenting moving "2's and 4's" around the kit as well as applying the same concept to other stickings. :-)
I love all of this lesson thanks so much for it! Inspire me and open a new world for me!

Jost (forget the Nickel) Gold.
Muito bom...simplesmente de toopp
That snare sounds perfect.
It's not only the snare itself that makes the differnce but also the way you're able to hit it
Nice video.
Love your channel.

Hmmm... is it time yet for youtube to get itself together.
Loved the video by the way!
Insigno {GAMINGCHANNEL} views only count after you’ve been watching the vid for a certain amount if time!
Nice chops!
i like this drumming style
It's already presented a loong time ago in Gary Chaffee's books. Look up for Patterns series books if you want to get much deeper with this.
Cristopher Walken of the drumming world has nice chops
Nice. Not noise
Brilliant!
Obrigado!
Thank you!
What a beast he is.. Damn God.
like the shoes 👌👍
