- Chessie System coal extra 8559 travels from Alleghany Summit to Clifton Forge. This is the sequel to "Alleghany Pusher" which showed the first leg to 8559's trip from Roncevert, WV to Clifton Forge, VA.
Excellent video. This brings back a lot of memories for me. It is great to see that era again without any CSX, but you do see some signs of things to come with the Seaboard and CRR hoppers.

does the CSX still run over this section of C&O Mainline via Allagannies? what kind of horn was on the Chessie C&O SD50?
I don't think I have any more. Mostly I was taking slides in those days. I didn't have a video recorder...just a camera and had to borrow a record deck which was the size of a major city phone book. If I turn up more Chessie, I'll post it.
Seaboard family hoppers (Seaboard, Family Lines, Clinchfield) in that coal train, sign of things to come with the formation of CSX.

@Trainmaster02 Wow, that was so long ago, I don't really remember. It was probably a county road or railroad access road. I'm sure it's on a county roadmap.

Did Chessie System merge into what is now CSX or they seperate entities? I know CSX is Chessie Seaboard Express so i figured the 2 might be connected.

@Trainmaster02 "Upon further review", and looking at some satellite images, I think it might be Moss Run rather than Jerry's Run. It was a long time ago, and I don't have a clear memory. Maybe someone familiar with the geography will post something.

You asked "Whats all that smoke from?" I believe it's from brake shoes being applied on the downgrade.
It doesn't mean express.

An "Extra" train is one that is not on the timetable.
