A diamond in the rough, this baby sister of the iconic M1 family packs a lot of “Bang for the Buck”. It may be vintage but its sounds are still relevant today, and its used economic price tag can’t be ignored. I wanted to share information about the M3R because it could soon be all but forgotten, and that would be a shame for a device with such a legendary sound history and lineage.

The M3R contained most of the M1 multi sounds plus a number of new ones not in the M1 but ones that were in the bigger M1REX and T series waveform ROM. The 33 multi fx programs were identical to those in both the M and T series. M3R programs were all single oscillator sounds and you had to use a combi in order to layer programs. This might sound limiting but in a way it was advantageous in order to save polyphony when sequencing. The M3R was actually a nice complement to the M1 because of its different waveforms but it was more or less redundant if you had an M1EX, M1REX or T1/T2/T3 that contained the M3R newer waveforms in their expended waveform ROM. Thanks for the great video and keep up the great work.

I have something similar from 89 too. EMU Proteus 1. It all samples from EMU 3 sampler banks they say. Strings and aaahhhhs are great. Instant Pet Shop Boys

Great video. Im a guitar player. I use a cheap Yamaha module. The Korg sounds great. Ill pick one up when the opportunity presents itself. Thanks!

There should be a way to use a Multi Combo for a roundabout way to get multi's with two patches (detuned for fatness), if you follow. I'm going to try this today!

Great video, how would you compare the Korg 05r to the M3r? I am about to pick up one or the other :)

I had both. The O5R is a very stripped down ai synthesis version with different waveforms and does NOT have the legendary M1 piano, the M3R does have it plus many of its powerful sound. M3R is the more popular module

I’m curious to know if one can use pcm cards to use your own custom samples?

Ironically it is called AI synthesis , in 2024 that has a up to date implication.

Does the keyboard give you the ability to tune to 432 E as well?

If I'm understanding your question correctly, the key which will be the center of the VDF keyboard tracking (the +0 key) can be set to from C-1 to G-9. I hope this information helps. Thanks for watching. 👍🏿
