The opening is not interesting. The first episode of Chainsaw is average. When I was watching I remembered Jujutsu Kaisen, Kimetsu no Yaiba and Black Clover. Really look like. The ending is also not interesting.
But the second episode is bad. It looks like hentai and still has bad shonen jokes.

Chris's analysis of Denji's boob motivation is pretty good. This is the first we've seen a protagonist basically achieve his goal in the first two episodes. So now he had to make a new goal, but since his upbringing was severly deprived of normalcy and the regular pleasures of life, that is what his goals mirror for now. However, once he attains those things, he may develop much more complex goals. But for now, he's just trying to live as normal a life as he can since he never got to. Boobs may seem silly, but for a young guy like Denji, it's pretty realistic first step to normalcy.

I think when Aki said "I'Il remember that" after Denji said he didn’t have any friends is when he decided to put Denji and Power together as partners. Really shows how Aki is very subtle in his compassion.
Aki pairing Power with Denji is both a blessing and a curse if you know know she treats Denji in the future LOL she becomes the most annoying little sister ever

I guess this is not a spoiler, since it's not really something addressed again, but Aki putting Denji and Power together wasn't because he wants to fuck with Denji, he put them together because Denji said "if I could be friends with a Devil, I would". Aki realized that and said he would remember it. So it was a nice thing he did for Denji.
I think there's an underrated act of kindness of Aki noting that Denji can make friends with devils because "I don't have any friends"
and Aki giving him a devil as a teammate the next day
despite how cold he seems, imo this was pretty cool
Notice the painting in Makima's office? It's in the OP as well and is a famous illustration of Dante's Divine Comedy (Inferno, Canto 22) by Gustave Dore. Fujimoto is an art major so he has referenced a lot of religious, philosophical paintings in CSM. This was not in the manga but a great addition by Mappa. More to come, see how many of them you can catch during the episodes

The ding sound when denji hit aki balls had me laughing for a straight minute. Mappa did chainsaw man justice.
Chainsawman is really great so far with its flawless characters, story, and its tone and atmosphere.
the end of part 1 was kinda bad though, too rushed even for a fast paced series. Part 2 seems to be good so far. Overall not the best work of the author. The oneshot prototype of CSM about Nayuta has a better story with the same message.

it's more likely just a general reference to movies, and the scenes in movie theaters in both Fujimoto's full length manga (fire punch and chainsaw man)

In French magazine ATOM, Tatsuki Fujimoto (the creator) states that Power's characterization was based on Eric Cartman (yes, THAT Eric Cartman).
So you kinda have an insight on how she's gonna behave. :)
That means two things.

One, the gag about her taking really gross shits and not flushing is even more hilarious.
Two, I waifu'd a character based on Cartman. My god.

In the manga, before denji and makima went for lunch, an old guy approach them saying that bis daughter was kiddnaped by a wood devil, and then Makima ask Denji to help him, Denji find that girl in the Woods but she is already posessed by the devil, and Denji had to fight to save the girl, he won the fight and the girl was saved but he lose lots of blood, that's why he fell off to Makima and unconscious for a moment.

tbf a lot of shows have followed on the Naruto trio, improving on it or otherwise. I mean JJK is an example I can think of where the Naruto trio is there, but done way better than Naruto.
What I love about chainsaw man's story is that you can go through it with your brain off (which is what I did up until a particular chapter) or look deeper into it and pick apart its philosophy and the metaphors sprinkled throughout. Either way, you're gonna have fun

I disagree actually. I think it is a pretty accurate showing of a male youth mistaking the desire for sexual satisfaction as genuine attraction, which in the case of Machina I dont read the manga but seems obvious that'll backfire like making that mistake often does. He wants a good life but is so simple he does nof yet understand the finer aspects, and although we all do want connection and contentment deep down, as men we want a connection where we get off....desire for fuck is inherent

But when denji said he would be friends with a demon hanakawa said he would "...remember that" and then went on to get him partnered with Power, a fiend. Personally, I think he partnered him with Power because of what Denji said, to give him a friend. At least that's what I'd like to think

It may have seemed super short, but this episode actually covered 3 and a half chapters of the manga, whereas the first episode only covered 1 😅
Ep 2 was surprisingly honestly! I expected Aki to show up next, then Power in the 3rd ep, but it looks like they skipped some minor things to fit it all into episode 2! Which was a fine idea, I bet everyone was excited to meet the other main characters from the OP.
to make it more clear: fiends are devils possessing corpses. so they have NO semblance of the human personality, the person is DEAD, it's ONLY a devil in control there.
And while the Zombie Devil did turn a bunch of humans into zombies, that was something unique to him, as the Zombie Devil.
Denji is also 16 so keep that in mind in his motivations 😂

Guy on the right's got it! Denji's life until this point consisted basically of living at the edge of abject poverty while being at constant risk of being killed by either a devil or the yakuza. Anything other than surviving the day was too far reaching of a goal for him, so goals like "having a good meal" or "getting with a girl" that might look trivial for the protagonist of a story actually makes a lot of sense in this context, especially for a 16-year-old male that has had basically no human contact for most of his life. As the story progresses so will Denji's goals, it gets pretty introspective as it goes a long too. Definitely one of the more interesting takes on a Shonen protagonist in recent memory.
The funny thing is... Denji said "mune" in Japanese, which can be translated as "chest", but if he wanted to say something that more explicitly refers to breasts, he could have said "oppai" instead...
Of course, he could have said something more vulgar than that... it was more polite than I would have expected...

Painting is an illustration of the demon Alichino in Dante's Inferno. He's chasing a sinner into the lake of boiling pitch in the Eight Circle (Malebolge). So yeah, quite thematically on point ✌

In context, she's 20, he's 16, she fully knows well what she's doing to him and around him XD. There's a reason why she's one of the current "problematic favs you can't help but like despite everything they do". No spoilers but Makima is a character you have to actually pay attention to what she does and say. I mean...tbh she's not that hidden about it. She's rather upfront. Its only people that blatantly ignore the things she does that don't get it.
Hint: In the op it basically shows her feeding the parasitic slug to him and how he's reaching out to her but she has her arms to herself, not letting him touch her but putting herself within grabbing distance on purpose. Both have clear symbolism on their future dyanamic/relationship.
Also the whole walking him around on a leash XD.

Why do people reference their ages as if it's a huge discrepancy, it's only a matter of 4 years. He is emotionally and mentally stunted though, but I don't think their ages play any significant role

Denji's the best! You'll feel safe around him with or without him using his chainsaw powers. He would have been a great older brother like Tanjiro from Demon Slayer if he had younger siblings. He did take care of Pochita for years even if Denji didn't have much to give but he did love Pochita with all his heart. ❤💕💯

Technically the first episode is not an exception. It has a different ending, a blank one with different music as well.
I feel the ed being blank for ep 1 is understandable because ep 1 felt very movie like so it ended like a movie a typical credit roll.

Haven't seen anyone else having such a positive view of Makima's dynamic with Denji lmao. I'm an anime only, but I already got a bad vibe from her. She seems to be manipulating him, so he'll be easy to control. It kinda sucks for him to go from having his life under the control of the yakuza for a debt he didn't even have a part in, to having his life under control by Makima and the demon hunters for something he didn't choose to be.
