- In this episode, I attach a Go-pro and take you along as I make a vinyl project bag using a tutorial from Dina @Making Life Count on FlossTube. I make a few slight changes which adds a few steps, but it worked for me, so I just continued on with it. Enjoy!
Please check out the original tutorial and the one that inspired me to make one in the first place! Thank you Dina!
Dina @Making Life Count-
• Flosstube 6: Project Bag
Cutting and bag measurements:
Finished outside size is approx.11(H) x 13 (W) inches with an interior measurement of approx.10 1/2 x 12 1/2 inches.
** This bag will comfortable hold a 9 in. hoop/8 in. Q-snap or smaller. A 10 in. hoop will fit, but it's very snug. **
Cutting instructions:
The lining and interfacing are the only pieces that will end up the same size in the end so cut carefully. Everything else will be cut down to the size of the lining later on in the process. These can certainly be scaled up or down to your preference!
Outer fabric-
Cut one piece 15 1/2 x 13 3/4 inches
(*Note: For directional fabric, the longer length is the width)
Lining AND fusible interfacing (I use Pellon fusible fleece #TP971F) -
Cut one of each 13 x 11 1/2 inches
Vinyl-
Cut one piece 13 1/4 x 10 inches
Coordinating strips for the zipper ( I used backing fabric but you can use anything you want)-
Cut 4 strips 2 x 13 1/4 inches
1 polyester zipper-
14 inches or longer if that's all you have

What a great tutorial, so easy to follow. This is the best project bag I have seen. I have to make some of these. Thank you
Thank you! Have fun :)
I have watched more than a dozen videos on making project bags and yours is TOP NOTCH!!!!
Woohoo!!! I'm so happy to hear that! Have fun making ALL the bags! ☺️
Wonderful descriptive video!!!!! If I ever get brave enough to make a bag I will follow this!!!😘😘
Thank you!! I hope you try it sometime 😊
Great instructions, I really like the fold over binding tip. Thanks for sharing your talent.
Thank you!
Nice tutorial, easy to follow. Thanks. A friend made me one but it has a handle on the top. When I make another from your tutorial I think I’ll add the handle, it is really handy when taking my project contents to class. Just throw it on my arm and out the door I go. Thanks again for an easy to follow tutorial. Linda in CA.
Thank you! I think adding a handle is a great idea! I may try that myself next time I make some. Hmmmm, you've got me thinking that you can even add a pocket on the inside or the back, too! 😊
Yes! A small pocket inside for clips or needles is a good idea.👍
I’ve made so many of these bags using your tutorial. The best I’ve seen.
Thank you!!! I appreciate you taking the time to let me know!😊
I'm going to try this! Thanks for the tutorial 😀
Have fun! Let me know how it goes!
Thanks so much for your tutorial! It is the only one on UA-cam that shows clear instructions for this type of bag. Your work is greatly appreciated!
Thank you! I appreciate the kind comment!!
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!! This is a much easier way to make a project bag!
Yay! I'm so glad it was helpful! Enjoy your bags :)
This is the best project bag video out there!!! I have done quilting but have never sewn a zipper or any sort of bag. Your video quality along with the commentary and reminders was so well thought out. You answered the anticipated questions along the way. You made it seem so easy and I was able to quickly make 3 without ripping out anything. Thank you so much for sharing your excellent video!
Thank you so much for your thoughtful comment! It's always nice to hear the video has been helpful! Enjoy making more bags....they are very addictive 😊
What an Awesome project bag, wonderful tutorial! Can’t wait to make one. Thank You!
Thank you!! Have fun 👍😊
Beautiful job of demonstrating making this bag. I am going to make one to keep my cross stitch hoop in. Thanks so much.
Thank you! Have fun!
Thank you Thank you!! You are a great teacher...I have very little sewing skills, but I feel I can attempt to make this project bag which I love sooo much. HAPPY STITCHING TODAY AND EVERYDAY!!
I'm so happy to hear that it's easy to follow! I hope you are successful at making one!
Thank you so much for this video Christine I just love these kind of bags and always wanted to make my own. My husband discovered his great grandmothers 1900s hand crank sewing machine and IV been playing around with it. I followed your video step by step and my bag turned out wonderful. Thank you again 🙂
That is awesome,!! Have fun making many more! 😊
Nothing like a visual to have it all make sense!!
Thank you!
thank you so much for this, i just took up cross stitch, and am an avid crafter, and I see a lot of people using these in their floss tube video's. I want them, but can't afford to buy a bunch. This is an answer to my dilema!
Thank you! Welcome to cross stitch, flosstube and now bag making! Have fun!
Hi!! OMG!! I heard about this bags but no one ever showed how to make them!!! Thank you Soo much!!!!!
You're welcome! Have fun!
Very good tutorial. The go pro did a great job.

Congrats!!! I'm sure there will be many more in your future! Thanks for the comment !😊
Your son was so smart to help you with your video. I have never found anyone that makes a video as good as yours. THANKS Christine. This one is like a hands on video...love the extra steps!!!
Rhonda Edwards Thank you! I'm happy you found it useful :)
I can't begin to tell you how great your video is. I made a project bag yesterday and the bag turned out awesome. Never had to rip out one stitch. Your hints were great. You saved me from having to do 14 before I was happy with the result. Thank you for posting this video!!!-
That is so awesome! Now on to MANY more :) !
You need make no apologies for a lack of sewing ability. I have watched several demo's and your video is very clear and easy to follow. You have good tips and frankly, you are the only person to warn about making sure you don't cut off the zipper pull, to carefully move it when you sew and cut on that edge. Good hint. Your demonstration is very clear and concise and again, I like your easy to follow guides.
Thank you Cheryl! I really appreciate the encouraging comment! And guess what? I have cut off my zipper pull at least once or twice AFTER making this video ! 😬😂When will I learn?!🙄🤣
Just wanted to share that I finally got brave and made my first bag. Thanks to you and Dina it turned out really well! I'm making my second now! They are addicting and so great for cross stitch
Congrats! Thanks for stopping by to let me know. Yes, they are addicting, lol!
This is a perfect bag. TFS

Thank you for the nice comment! I learn the same way....I guess that's why I made the video for myself originally, lol! If I just wrote instructions to my future self, I'd probably be lost ;)
I just finished a bag with your instructions! Came out really nice. Thank you!
Great!! Have fun making many more !

Boy, with your tutorial, one could make 2 bags an hour. Awesome job with video! Liked your fabric choices.
I had an assembly line going and they do stitch up quickly!
Hi there, I’ve looked at all the vinyl fronted project bags on UA-cam and made two with a Riley Blake approach which alerted me to how tricky this can be. And it told me their approach could be improved. This is the best I’ve seen. Why hadn’t I thought of lightly ironing the zipper piece? Thank you - from Cheshire, England.
Thank you! Those zippers can really be a pain sometimes, but ironing does seem to help 😊😊 Happy sewing!!
I JUST FOUND YOU! You made putting in a zipper a breeze., your technique is so easy and great! Thank you.
Yay!! So glad I could help. Have fun making bags...with zippers 😊👍
Ok I just made my first project bag. It was so easy I actually giggled when I was done. I had your video on along the way for reference thank you.
That is so awesome!! Are you on Instagram? If so, share a pic!
Excellent tutorial ☺ I made a project bag today following your instructions
Tracey May Great! I'm so happy you got one made! Here's to many more!
I suffer from vertigo, this tutorial didn’t bother me at all. I enjoyed watching and look forward to making several of these clear vinyl bags. Thank you for sharing.
Oh great! I'm so happy it was easy to watch! Happy bag making!
I've had fabric on hand languishing in the closet until I found a video I could follow, so Thanks for making it. The GoPro worked well, very little shaking. Now I have to get the vinyl & Ill be ready to sew.
I'm so happy that languishing fabric will get used! Yay!! Have fun!!
This is awesome 🤩
Thank you!
Thanks for all the tips :)
You're welcome! 😊

Love it, I did not understand Dina's video especially on the zipper part.Yours is easier to understand. I'm glad you decided to post your video, thank you.
Great video, you made it look so simple and the tip for binding a quilt wish I had known earlier 👍
Thank you!!
I've been looking for a project bag with a clear front. Your tutorial is great. Thank you!
Thank you so much for taking the time to make this video! In the past, when sewing with vinyl, I have had trouble with shifting and skewing. I like the idea of making it larger and trimming it down. My bag turned out wonderfully!
Yay! I'm happy to hear you enjoyed the tips! I love your videos! You make the cutest things! Of course I'm so behind on my Flosstube watching (and updating my channel) these days. Hopefully soon! Happy stitching!
Thank you, that is so kind! I really enjoy all of your cute projects too! 😊 Happy stitching!
This is one of the best and easiest instructions for a project bag! I may add an inch or two to the vinyl at the bottom of the bag so things don't poke through. Thank you !!!
grandmav2014 Thank you! Yes, it can easily be altered to suit your needs! Thanks for commenting, it's much appreciated!
Thank you for the great tutorial and useful tips, Jess
Thank you!!

Thanks so much for this great video! With many pauses and rewinds, made my first bag yesterday!
Fantastic! Congratulations!
Thanks Christine. I love seeing the actual sewing. It makes so much more sense to me now.
That's how I feel, I like to see the whole process!
What a beautiful bag!
Really nice bag and I think the GoPro worked out well. Thanks for sharing.
Brilliant!
Wow!!! I ll try this... very easy to follow. Thanks!!!
I'm glad you found it useful :)
loved the tutorial !! I don't have a sewing machine but if i ever get one and make a project bag i'm going to come back to this video :) Thank you !
AngelaStitches Thank you! I appreciate hearing that :)!
Thank you so much for such an informative tutorial. I had previously watched both The Crafty Gemini and Dina's videos and by the time I found yours I was well and truly ready to get going. Your video is fantastic and after watching it TWICE I was ready to sew and am pleased to say that I have completed my first bag and I am now ready for the production line! I have been the beneficiary of your hits and misses and I am surprisingly satisfied with my first bag. I appreciate the time it's taken you to prepare this video. Thanks once again.
Tina Nadalin Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know you have completed your first bag successfully! They become easier with practice and soon you'll have a good collection! Good for you!!
Wonderful video.
Thank you!!
Great tutorial, thank you.
Thank you!! Have fun!
Thank you for making this. I watched parts over and over to help me make Dina's bag!!!
Pretty Southern Great!! I'm glad it was helpful!
I just now discovered this tutorial!! Great job!! Those wonder clips are great I need to get some. Like how you use the 4 pieces of fabric so it enclose all the seams. Thank you for sharing this with us!! You and I have the same sewing machine. I traded my Singer in for the Elna in 1998 when I first got into quilting. I love that machine!! However, the more I got into quilting I went and bought a Pfaff because that has a built in walking foot and all I have to do is push a lever in stead of fighting to get that big walking foot on my Elna. I still have the Elna and use it a lot for sewing. Thanks again Christine. Happy stitching and sewing project bags!! Lynn
Hi Lynn! That's cool that we have the same Elna! Funny story, I did most of my quilting on a Brother and I wanted a High End machine so bad! I first bought a Pfaff, but surprisingly, I didn't care for it ( I think I'm the only one in the world). So I returned it and bought a Bernina. Didn't care for it, either and finally ended up with the Elna. Truth be told, that inexpensive Brother was still my fave....go figure!
Your bag turned out perfectly. Thanks for showing how you did it, I quite like the go pro 'in action' view!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it :)
Very nice bag and great tutorial. Easy to follow. Thanks for sharing and happy stitching!
Thank for a great video! I cant wait to make one!
Thanks! Have fun!!
This is such a great tutorial. Thank you!! Can't wait to get sewing.
Thank you!! Have fun!!
Loved this tutorial. I’ve been wanting to make some bags with vinyl liners, and I think I can apply your techniques to make them,
Thank you!! Hope it works out and you produce lots of bags! 💕👍
Oooo! This may be the bag I just won!... Thanks for this tutorial Christine. I just bought a sewing machine (it's been 10 years since I've had one) last night and want to try making some project bags.
Yes, it is! :) I made 2 of them that day so one of them is yours!
Excellent video, watching you see it has given me confidence to go make one or several. Thanks for all the tips.
Thank You for this video! I think I am ready to try & make one for me!!
Grace Patane Great! You can do it!!
Great video. I just made my first project bag and it came out great! Thank you 😊
Fantastic! Have fun making many more!
Hi, I love your tutorial, easy to follow. The bag is so pretty, looking forward to make it. Thank you so much for sharing and have a nice week.
Francine Rollin Thank you! Have fun making them :)
Christine thank you so much for making this video - I will have to go back to Dena's video and check it out. I love how you did the zipper with the top and bottom strips of fabric. I think I can do it! That GoPro worked great!!!
Of course you can do it!! :) I have all the faith in you my crafty friend!
OMG i loved this tutorial!! I started making bags about 4 months ago using Dina’s tutorial. Then i was told about yours. It was a great video. I have made bags and selling on etsy but mine are solid covered and bigger. But i am making more with the vinyl now. Thanks again!!
Thank you! Bags are so fun and addicting! I love your videos, btw :) Happy stitching!
Far too late in the evening to get my machine out but so tempted. I need to bookmark this tutorial, thank you for making zips look easy
I'm glad I made it look easy....it didn't start out that way. :)
I am saving this!!! I have been wanting to try making my own! Your step by step tutorial is great! I love that you included the sewing too!
Crafty Momma Thank you! I hope you give it a try!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you.
Thank you for the comment! I love to hear that it was useful...makes it worth it :)
Thanks for the tutorial. I finally made my first vinyl front project bag. It wasn’t that hard, just took time. Thanks again.
Congrats!! They get quicker as you do more of them! Have fun!
Wonderful video and training on how to make bags.. one suggestion would be to use a walking foot when doing the basting and final sew as it will help sew and feed all layers evenly. Thank you !
Thank you! Yes, that is a great tip about the walking foot, but I'm just to lazy to put it on, lol!
Good video. I see you doing other tutorials in the future. I don't mind pinning when sewing, but recently I bought those Clover clips and I love them.
Thank you! Oh, I don't know about more tutorials...they are a lot of work and the editing of this one cost me a whole day of stitching! Maybe some short, easy ones :)
Thanks for sharing this.
You're welcome!! ❤️
Thank you! I sewed my first cross stitch bag.
Nina Hobbysite Yay! Congratulations !! 👍😊
Thank you for sharing i love the fabric you chose. I want to make one for each grandchild , so cute and you make it look easy also love the Go Pro!!! up close and can see nicely.
I'm glad you enjoyed it! Have fun making lots of them!
Awesome!!!
Hiya Dina - Thanks for the video...I just wanted to say you sound like me with stitch length! hahaha I too lengthen my stitches a bit to accommodate my seam ripping frequency! Take Care! Jenn xx
HI Jenn, I noticed you addressed your message to Dina's so thought it might have been meant for her video. We both have bag tutorials, so it can be confusing, lol. Her tutorial is linked in the description of mine. Or, your message was meant for me (Christine)....either way, yes! longer stitches for seam ripping ease! :)
Calico hi it was for you! Thanks again for the video it was great fun to watch
Hi I'm Dena Great and wonderful job. Love it.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a comment! I hope you have fun making bags :)
Thank you for the tutorial one of my subscribers: Toni Walker referred me to your video and I really loved the way you showed every step. I’m thinking somebody wants me to start making project bags xD May the project bag mania commence! Lol
Xpresslifetifa Thank you! I'll have to be sure and thank Toni for the referral, lol! Yes....project bag mania is in full force!!
Thank you for doing the tutorial video. It looks easy enough. Love the Disney fabric you used. How much fabric did you use for each one?
That tutorial was awesome, I followed it exactly and my bag came out great. Used mini clothespins instead of wonder clips, I love it , will make some more soon. Thanks !
Yay for success!!! Have fun making many more !!😊
