Love that travelling on foot from the great plateau abandoned mine to under the volcano would have been faster than trying a million different box designs.
Or just getting the glide suit and free the fairies Would've taken some time, but it's basically a Paraglider-less Paraglider, so it would've been useful for the entire run
@photonbee1932 What does work is sticking the steering stick to a piece of fallen sky island debris. They're coded in a way so they stay level and fall somewhat slowly, and autobuild keeps this property. Also it glows prettily as you fall. Technically you don't need the steering stick at all, but it I prefer having something to hold onto.
When Sidon opened the whirlpool for me, I left the quest. Its Sidon's commitment to swimming in circles for what must have been at least a couple months in game time that truely shows his commitment as a sage.
when he realized the balloons interact with the heat from the lava i thought he was going to just make a simple unpowered balloon platform for a slow descent :D
All of the time I was watching this, I thought of how easy it would’ve been with the two star glider set because it negates all fall damage and it adds so much falling movement
7:22 I tried doing this shrine without the paraglider when i started playing. I didn't even realize that the paraglider was a thing in the game. I spent at least an hour on that before I gave up
It would've been cool if the game had you do much more without the paraglider. I knew from the trailers that it was in the game but I was hoping we wouldn't get it so early.
Another trick for getting into the Depths is to jump down one of the three chasms that are hidden in wells. They all have little pools of water at the bottom. The chasm under Zora's Domain would also work, but would be a pain to get all the way to autobuild from. It's also a boring-but-practical solution to the death mountain chasm, by going down the well north of Hyrule Castle and heading there cross-country.
Getting into the depths is way easier than you think. If you ride Farosh down while she's on her circuit, she's actually close enough to the ground fairly close to the chasm to just safely jump. Well... "safely" as long as you've got 8 or so hearts, anyway.
Dinraal is better. Not only does the shape of the mane make it easier to stay on during the decent (and land on the dragon as they go down), the route through the depths takes you so close to a Lightroot you can get off without taking fall damage. However, there is an even easier way. There is a chasm in the Gerudo region on the border between the desert and the highlands that has water under it, and the chasm under Zora's Domain also drops you into water.
To be more complete, there are also multiple wells with chasms inside that have water at the bottom. I confirmed two for safe water depth. @alexstewart9592 - When riding the dragons, don't worry about mane or horn shapes. Link can climb almost everywhere behind the mane, including on the side of most of the back spikes. I have walked away from my system while mapping all the dragon routes with this.
I did a no paragliding run. Also no fast travel to shrines for added hardness. I found out if you take one of the chunks that fall from the sky islands, you can move them above a chasm and simply ride them down without flying off. Super handy. Dragons came in handy as well. And I had a couple of chasms that fell right into water
@@PurpleKoumori No need. I've used that to descend safely on my own no-glider run. Gotta be mighty careful not to bump the sides on the way down the chasm though. Zonai wing's ready to flip in (what feels like) an instant if it bumps into anything in flight.
Short answer: yes. My first run was without the paraglider. I did every dungeon I could without purah giving me the paraglider, so no sky view towers, no map, and no mineru. Out of 152 shrines, 150 are possible without the paraglider. The only two exceptions being the Gatakis (rito village) and mayamats (gerudo highlands) shrines. The upgraded glide suit and a wing fused shield are the most important tools for a no-paraglider run. Oh and have fun with colgera’s phase 2- it’s torture.
Just dive through the icy bits when Colgera starts firing off the spikes. It's that easy. Diving through gets rid of them in one shot instead of having to use two arrows to do it.
It would be really easy IF you could ascend quickly. Because Colgera can summon a massive wall of wind which you can only dodge with the mobility of the paraglider, it makes dodging the wall tortuous.@@The-Person-Who-Asked
ik im like 10 months late but you can beat the mayamats shrine by using a shield bomb to land on the railing on the left and carefully walking along it !!!!
I'm currently tryin to 100% the game without the paraglider, and it was so interesting watching how Linkus and I deviated between things, like how he immediately went to the depths, while I headed to hyrule castle for some good loot
Honestly this is one of my favorite things about tears of the kingdom how the game gives you the choice to get the paraglider or not and just play the game in a completely different way where as in breath of the wild it forces you to get the glider
1:23:19 Have you tried what happens if you visit Hyrule Castle at this point and defeat the Phantom Ganons? Because the Cutscene after you do so also tells you to find the 5th Sage, doesn't it?
I've even triggered clearing out the thunderstorm by using a clipping glitch (and it worked), but the Spirit Temple is still locked. I also clipped into the Spirit Temple, the boss doesn't spawn and the secret stone just sits there.
The Wolf Link amiibo will give a chest in TotK, but it’s rare. It’s only for the Twilight Princess paraglider fabric. If I’m not mistaken it’ll only happen once if you do obtain the fabric and save it.
I was waiting for this video. I watched most of the challenge live and it was awesome to see the different solutions to the problems that no one notices.
The first shrine on the ground I ended up at, was A Windy Device, and I refused to leave it when I saw the initial fan-cliff puzzle, instead being like ‘eh that wall looks slopey’, and I kept jumping and shield hopping in the corner til I scrambled up that edge lol
Cool strats for the water temple. Alot easier than what I did, ascending to it involved building a long bridge with some large stone blocks and part of the temple involved use of floating platforms which is very stressful with only 1 battery and I didn't think of shield fusing, so I limited myself harshly. His methods seem more doable.
Hey, @Linkus7 , I'm not sure if you knew this, but there's a little mechanic that you can use fighting Colgera. When it starts firing off those spikes, you can dive at the spots that open up and it will break it in one hit instead of having to use 2 arrows to do it. I thought that might help (that is, if you even see this).
It's a bit late now but certain parts of getting to the wind temple could have been made easier with the knowledge that you can stack springs to gain more height
Hey linkus! Knowing you you've probably already found this out, but in the ganon fight Ive found it's way more consistent to parry Ganon's attack post-flurry-rush. It allows you to get about the same amount of hits in, while also not having to worry about timing as much
I'm doing a clothless run and surprisingly all you need is a shield with an item that gives you heat which will get you really far up past the second shrine in the sky, no kidding. It's only when you get to the circling boats is when you need another stage of cold resistance. Though when you beat Colgera the cold comes back down to the surface so I'd say do everything you need to do in the hebra region first before beating colgera so that way you can enjoy Hebra without freezing your butt off.
10:01 i actually did that shrine without the paraglider because i didnt want to do what Purah told me and just get full stamina before even meeting hoz. Safe to say, it was a painful experience getting full stamina with no paraglider
Linkus, on that shrine where you have to jump a lot and land with the paraglider at the beggining you can just time your sidehop/backflip when targeting to jump right before the spring extends and you’ll make it just enough to not take damage (I made it to that shrine before making it to skyview tower and was trying to get it and made it almost till the end that way)
i didn't realize i was supposed to get the paraglider from purah, so when i started the game i went the opposite direction of lookout landing and definitely spent 2+ hours completing shrines without it, was quite a fun time
Going to the water temple after beating the dungeon always triggers a blood moon on certain versions of the game, just walk to the middle of the boss fight platform.
This was basically how I started the game, because I completely ignored the purah quests and just dived right into shrines. Edit: literally the two shrines in the beginning of the video were my first two shrines and I had to do them without a paraglider, the same way as you.
The only initial challenge i see is the fact that Anti-grav will be annoying to deal with with no correcting your floaty jumps *(as i typed this out i remembered the entirety of the wind temple)*
44:23 Fun fact, you can actually shield surf on rails. It controls like the grinding in Sonic Adventure 2, but you can only jump rails that are a part of the same railroad.
I'm trying to do this challenge as well, but I'm also not allowing myself to use any Zonai Devices to see how many dungeons I can get. I feel Gerudo is the most likely one to beat, and I made it up to the first shrine on the way up to the Wind Temple, but I dont think I'll make it much further than that honestly (which stinks because it already took me like 3 hours to make it that far.
So for getting to the fire temple... Would it have been possible to just get into the depths somewhere else (Either by teleporting to the central mine, or going down an easier chasm) and then just get there on foot through the depths? You can actually get to the fire temple without going through that chasm, you just can't enter the temple without sending Yunobo down there through death mountain first.
I just discovered this video because I was doing a no paraglider run as well, and was trying to find a way to activate the Hyrule Castle Gloomondorf Squad battle without it. So sad that you can't unlock the last 2 dungeons without getting the glider, lol.
Or, you know, just get back to the depths like you did originally, then walk all the way to death mountain from there~ (or a nearby chasm that’s still closer, since we can fall damage cancel)
I know the Glide Outfit is… technically cheating, but I hope Linkus gets it this run _at least un-upgraded_ cause it’s one of my favorite sets, and it’d be interesting to see how he goes about accessing it. Edit: Also curious if he will get the Zonaite Armor Edit 2: He got the glide outfit!
For descending into death mountain chasm, I did some testing and 3 wings arranged tail to tail in a triangle around a steering stick will drop almost straight down with no input but still has nice maneuverability, plus it takes no power.
I did the same thing. An easy way to get down into the depths, for the temples, you can just use a glider, a fan, a stabilizer (on the bottom), and a control stick.
See, I was brainstorming different BotW challenge runs but after seeing PointCrow do it without using stamina, that just encompasses so many other challenges including this one.
i'm pretty sure you can't advance the ring ruins quest without completing regional phenomena, and to complete regional phenomena, you have to talk to purah. and talking to purah means she'll give you the paraglider
Can I say, I appreciate that the game really teaches a “good enough” mentality is ok when you have a goal. Everything doesn’t have to fit perfectly. A bit of janky wiggle will work. A crucifix arms don’t have to be equal. Signs will fall a few times
I actually needed 3 hours for the Ganon fight, because I just had 3 hearts left and flurry rushed everything. So I basically turned this fight into a souls fight lol 😂 But It was worth the challenge. 👌🏻 Great video tho. ❤
why i don't have the paraglider? i- i was doing a challenge... i clearly didn't miss it and did half of the regional phenomena before even knowing purah was there...
Linkus did hover stones dirty with this one. They're so versatile for shooting on an arrow and catching yourself out of a fall, and I don't think he used them once
there are 2 ways i can think of to get to death mountine chasm, first is a stabalizer on 2 wheels setup in a way for a gyro setup in a box. second is going the long way of basicly anywhere else in the chasm all the way to death mountine since the majority of the underground is connected
This video inspired me to take on the challenge myself, and I gotta say it was a lot more fun and challenging using the zonal devices more and dying… a lot… but still very cool just finished it but missed having the map and paraglider so much
I feel like this is something at at least the possibility was accounted for, if not intended, as you know, Pura has unique dialogue if you already beat everything.
The zora was my first dungeon in my first play through and it was the harder fight in the whole game. Ganon took me 1 try all three times I fought him for pics that I forgot to take while sludge like took me like 15 tries and I didn’t have the camera but I decided not to go back in a save because of how annoying it was!
Lowkey did like a quarter of my first save file without paraglider because I was blind and just didn’t find lookout landing. 8:30 also just realizing I got scammed at this shrine because I thought the height would always kill me so I came up with some convoluted strat of extending the spring, and then holding it over the gap at max distance + the right height only to bring it back so I could get on, then rewind it so I could do a shield jump to pass the gap.
10:18 I love that both me and Linkus did this during this shrine lol. I did it just to mess around in the shrine 🤣 but yeah I love stealing the puzzle pieces from the last room and bringing them to the next one haha
ok, i swear i will build something to go down the goron shaft without resorting to any glitches or the paraglider, im on my no fast travel playthrough anyway
riding steering stick on anything cancels fall damage... just ultrahand it over the middle of the chasm, bring it back, recall and mount it so you drop straight down the hole
It’s possible to get to the sky diving area over korok forest, I did it in my no glider run. I started from hyrule castle and had a ballon and fans to push/give barely enough height to make it, had fun doing it. Can’t say the same for the one near hebra…
You also can get the Mirror of Twilight glider fabric from the Wolf Link amiibo, but I guess because you didn't get the paraglider you couldn't get the fabric.
I'm surprised he gave up on doing all shrines so quick. 1:05:15 being the hardest I still did that shrine. He shows beating the third hardest the catapult. If he had no fast travel the whirlpool would probably be second or first hardest I think.
you can do anything in this game and go anywhere as long as you have ultrahand and ascend (for the rare places where ascend is the only way in to a completely closed space). the real challenge would be no paraglider and no zonai devices allowed. you would need to rely on building physical catapults, bridges and stairs. only exception I guess is the 5th dungeon which is hardlocked with no paraglider but I'm sure there is a way to glitch yourself in.
The first shrine that you showed, I remember trying to do it without the paraglider because I didn't have the glider yet and I was getting so frustrated that I almost quit the game for good.

i didn't realize i was supposed to get the paraglider from purah, so when i started the game i went the opposite direction of lookout landing and definitely spent 2+ hours completing shrines without it, was quite a fun time
The Death Mountain part was pure gold, thak you for not choosing the easy way
Its nice seeing others try this challenge, im still trying to find a way to do the final temple out of pure stubbornness.
16:25 I just made a hover bike and skipped blowing up the rocks lmao, and funnily enough it works
For death mountain. I'm surprised he didn't think of literally just using a balloon and a flame emitter to slowly go down in the hole
10:50 i actually beat this shrine without the paraglider because i didnt want to go to lookout landing in the beginning
The only initial challenge i see is the fact that Anti-grav will be annoying to deal with with no correcting your floaty jumps
*(as i typed this out i remembered the entirety of the wind temple)*
44:23 Fun fact, you can actually shield surf on rails. It controls like the grinding in Sonic Adventure 2, but you can only jump rails that are a part of the same railroad.
11:00 I did this shrine without paraglider. It was the first shrine I did and I didnt know this game had a paraglider.
So I did the cheese that he did in the Zora waterworks without realizing it wasn't the intended solution
The gliding set upgraded would be SO useful for this 2:08
I'm trying to do this challenge as well, but I'm also not allowing myself to use any Zonai Devices to see how many dungeons I can get.
You can actually get to the fire temple without going through that chasm, you just can't enter the temple without sending Yunobo down there through death mountain first.
i thought about the same thing, linkus is a bit slow
I can tell you it's possible because that's how I first discovered it lol
this is a really interesting concept, I wish I was there for the stream!
35:36(ish) - gettin some real "Nigara Falls in a Barrel" vibes with this one...
I just discovered this video because I was doing a no paraglider run as well, and was trying to find a way to activate the Hyrule Castle Gloomondorf Squad battle without it. So sad that you can't unlock the last 2 dungeons without getting the glider, lol.
37:32 footage of the mars rover landing
real
Or, you know, just get back to the depths like you did originally, then walk all the way to death mountain from there~ (or a nearby chasm that’s still closer, since we can fall damage cancel)
Lol when I saw Linkus do the stabilizer shrine I knew it was going to be a doozy since I unfortunately completed it before I got the paraglider
At the death mountain box segment, he could've used carts as the box to fall down the chasm
I know the Glide Outfit is… technically cheating, but I hope Linkus gets it this run _at least un-upgraded_ cause it’s one of my favorite sets, and it’d be interesting to see how he goes about accessing it.
Edit: Also curious if he will get the Zonaite Armor
Edit 2: He got the glide outfit!
For descending into death mountain chasm, I did some testing and 3 wings arranged tail to tail in a triangle around a steering stick will drop almost straight down with no input but still has nice maneuverability, plus it takes no power.
Hello! I have been watching your videos a lot recently, keep up the grind!
I did the same thing.
An easy way to get down into the depths, for the temples, you can just use a glider, a fan, a stabilizer (on the bottom), and a control stick.
See, I was brainstorming different BotW challenge runs but after seeing PointCrow do it without using stamina, that just encompasses so many other challenges including this one.
you actually can get the 5th dungeon without the paraglider you just have to get the quest from tauro at kakariko village
i'm pretty sure you can't advance the ring ruins quest without completing regional phenomena, and to complete regional phenomena, you have to talk to purah. and talking to purah means she'll give you the paraglider
Can I say, I appreciate that the game really teaches a “good enough” mentality is ok when you have a goal. Everything doesn’t have to fit perfectly. A bit of janky wiggle will work. A crucifix arms don’t have to be equal. Signs will fall a few times
1:16:47 it’s giving very “look, ramps! we can use these as ramps!” energy
the amount of times i watched link fall and wonder why linkus wasnt deploying his paraglider is insane
I actually needed 3 hours for the Ganon fight, because I just had 3 hearts left and flurry rushed everything. So I basically turned this fight into a souls fight lol 😂
But It was worth the challenge. 👌🏻
Great video tho. ❤
For the Rito section you should use the paraglider
why i don't have the paraglider? i- i was doing a challenge... i clearly didn't miss it and did half of the regional phenomena before even knowing purah was there...
This is such a cool idea for a challenge run, nice stuff :)
53:56 The sand probably prevents the button from working
Linkus did hover stones dirty with this one. They're so versatile for shooting on an arrow and catching yourself out of a fall, and I don't think he used them once
Thank you Linkus for giving me something to put on while I grind the few hundred remaining Korok Seeds.
there are 2 ways i can think of to get to death mountine chasm, first is a stabalizer on 2 wheels setup in a way for a gyro setup in a box. second is going the long way of basicly anywhere else in the chasm all the way to death mountine since the majority of the underground is connected
1:00:44 there is a chest from wolf link amiibo. But it's useless for this challenge since the chest holds twilight mirror fabric for the paraglider
Feel like the skydive armor set might’ve helped a lot
Rauru watching from the grave: 'What is he doing?'
*Turns to Rhoam's ghost*
Rauru: 'Is this what he's normall-'
Rhoam: 'Yep.'
ok, i swear i will build something to go down the goron shaft without resorting to any glitches or the paraglider, im on my no fast travel playthrough anyway
1:16:25 - "...if i just died, because i ran out of health..."
yeah, that usually does it lol
riding steering stick on anything cancels fall damage... just ultrahand it over the middle of the chasm, bring it back, recall and mount it so you drop straight down the hole
It’s possible to get to the sky diving area over korok forest, I did it in my no glider run. I started from hyrule castle and had a ballon and fans to push/give barely enough height to make it, had fun doing it. Can’t say the same for the one near hebra…
This is insane. You are insane. And I respect that
For the death mountain descent what about 6 springs and a steering stick maybe some sleds for extra surface area
You also can get the Mirror of Twilight glider fabric from the Wolf Link amiibo, but I guess because you didn't get the paraglider you couldn't get the fabric.
30:17 The fact u had just enough hp to die to fall damage made it so much funnier
Dropping enemies into water is fun, pretty much all of them die in it. I watched 2 moblins all fall into water by their own volition and it was great
Pointcrow: Bridges
Linkus7: BOXES
I'm surprised he gave up on doing all shrines so quick. 1:05:15 being the hardest I still did that shrine. He shows beating the third hardest the catapult. If he had no fast travel the whirlpool would probably be second or first hardest I think.
22:00 "I dont wanna use a hovercraft build"
*proceeds to build a hovercraft, just 4.5 times more expensive
53:35 “I never figured out an optimal way to fight this GUY”
you can do anything in this game and go anywhere as long as you have ultrahand and ascend (for the rare places where ascend is the only way in to a completely closed space). the real challenge would be no paraglider and no zonai devices allowed. you would need to rely on building physical catapults, bridges and stairs. only exception I guess is the 5th dungeon which is hardlocked with no paraglider but I'm sure there is a way to glitch yourself in.
The first shrine that you showed, I remember trying to do it without the paraglider because I didn't have the glider yet and I was getting so frustrated that I almost quit the game for good.
