A beautiful yacht, but at $1.1 million second hand, it is a hard sell against brand new catamarans(that already have water makers) for blue water cruising. I get it if you're just a mono hull purist, but if I was spending a million plus, I would prefer a more live aboard friendly cat.

I hear what you are saying but you are trying to compare a plastic floating wedding cake on the water with a classic blue water mono with impeccable joinery. Even catamaran owners will tell you that they don't find their boats particularly beautiful and certainly not inspiring of the pure essence of sailing.

@@svZia-Switch51 Again, if you're a mono purist, you'll tend to the romance and potential beauty of monos. The truth though, is that the majority of people are in mono hulls simply because they are significantly cheaper than twin hulls. Cats are more expensive because among other things, they are more in demand from the buying public with money. UA-camrs are all moving onto cats as soon as their subscription numbers get them a favourable deal with manufacturers. UA-camrs already on cats are getting deals or working on deals to get onto BETTER cats. No one is going from a comfortable cat living arrangement to a mono hull. Cats are simply better for live aboard sailors. They just are. Monos are better for weekends or several days to a close anchorage. Again, anyone can enjoy a $million + mono like this. It's beautiful. However, they can't compete with cats at anchorage or on useable living and storage space.

@@kiwiwanderingusa9988 Really what we are talking about is the difference between someone who grew up sailing and loves the art of sailing for what it is with the work and challenge that go along versus someone who simply wants to live on the water and feels they need a tremendous amount of space to do so. That’s why so many of the couples I speak with here in the.Caribbean aboard large Cats tell me that this is their first boat. They thought a change to living aboard on the water would be a great escape from life on land and they want to be as “comfortable “ as possible. They are not sailors just because their boat has sails. They don’t even know what it feels like to truly sail. Most hire a skipper to help them figure out how to move the damn things from A to B! They have the least amount of experience in the anchorage and are the first to get in trouble and cry for help. To me these owners are simply not sailors they are liveaboards, and that is fine, but call it what it is. UA-camrs are an interesting subset as I have been sailing with one young couple for the past year and they have a fairly popular channel. The fact is the vast majority of people subscribing to each of those channels are not sailors themselves but mainly dreamers, watching what they view as a more romantic lifestyle and wishing they had both the fortitude and funds to do it themselves. You could chop the masts off of most those channels and subscriber count would not budge because they are there for the adventure not the sailing. Sailing Doodles is a perfect example as his subscriber count continues to grow as long as he pumps T& A aboard a boat whether it’s sail or power. UA-camrs are slaves to producing content and very few people are truly interested in watching the act of sailing, they watch to see what happens after you drop the hook.

@@svZia-Switch51 Oh, I think what we are really talking about is the whiff of elitism, of people who grew up sailing mono hulls but didn't actually live on them exclusively. How is a couple that lives aboard their cat and travels the world, less of a sailor than someone who only sails mono hulls on weekends and the occasional week long jaunt during the summer? I haven't heard of, or watched a single person who lives on a mono hull, who would pass up a cat if they could afford it. If you are just sailing occasionally on weekends on a pretty mono hull for the sake of being a "real" sailor, have at it. If however, you are on the water solely to be living on a boat and doing primarily blue water sailing, then money being no object, people prefer the utility of space and beam. There is a reason that there is more demand for cats than mono hulls if money isn't the deciding factor, and that reason is that people WANT to live comfortably and not be at an angle for days on end during a passage. I'm never going to argue that some mono hulls aren't gorgeous and fun to sail, but for living onboard for years at a time and doing long passages, they pale in comparison to the ease of cats with their roominess and storage ability. Never mind the added convenience of getting some separation from people with having two hulls and multiple areas to get some alone time above deck.
