  • Listing Specifications & Price:
    We are proud to present BLUE STAR, that is not only the finest Little Harbor 53, but also one of the stars in the movie 'Failure to Launch', starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker.
    Designed by Ted Hood and built in the Lien Hwa shipyard in Taiwan, the Little Harbor line of sailing yachts was built for comfortable offshore sailing with top quality construction and pedigree. The cockpit is designed for single-handed sailing, with all controls easily reached from the helm. Inside, the generous beam and hull design lead to an interior that feels like a much larger yacht, providing exceptional living and storage space. Ideal for shallow waters, she features a deep, efficient centerboard that increases draft to 11'-4" when lowered.
    Built in 1988 and commissioned in 1989 BLUE STAR has only had two owners, the first for 15 years and the current owners for the past 17. Her second owner has kept her maintained by the same boat yard, the same engineer, and the same varnish / cosmetics expertise. She's never been chartered, and is kept in her own private slip in Oxford, MD on the Chesapeake Bay when in season. BLUE STAR has cruised the US East Coast and the Caribbean, and when not cruising south she has been kept protected by her full canvas winter cover.
    Below decks BLUE STAR's layout is especially focused on safety and offshore blue water sailing. All berths are equipped with lee cloths, the salon is designed to take full advantage of space, with a large curved dinette table and all safety reaches never out of arms distance. The aft owner's cabin has two oversized sea berths that each approach the size of a double bed with extra length.
    BLUE STAR sleeps six in three private staterooms, each with private head and shower. Starting forward there is a large storage area/bosun's locker with workbench and deck access. Aft of the forepeak are two identical guest staterooms, each with over/under berths and separate heads, including showers. Each cabin has a full cedar-lined hanging locker, several drawers, large lockers, opening ports, opening hatches and fans over each berth. Winter and summer custom fitted coverlets and sheets and monogrammed towels are available for each cabin. Two sets of fitted coverlets for each berth; one cream colored and the other a rich patterned winter coverlet, fitted sheets. monogrammed linens include towels, pillows, shams (with a monogram of Blue Star's design), napkins, glasses, stationery, and more.
    Paramount Pictures selected BLUE STAR to be featured as the sail boat in 'Bristol' condition for its movie, 'Failure to Launch' starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey. This selection was made after the Governor's office for Tourism referred their call to several boat yards and much competition from visited yachts resulted in BLUE STAR's selection. This selection speaks to the pristine condition of the yacht. BLUE STAR's role resulted in signed logs by Sarah and Matthew; one extra, transparent Bimini; and one set of new 'blue' cockpit cushions (desire of the Director, but in the end BLUE STAR's white cushions were chosen).

    It's so refreshing to see a boat broker who knows what a tiller is, and everything else sailboat. They're usually so unfamiliar with sailboats that they just silently walk around with their phones taking video, and it's so creepy because you can hear them breathing. Bizarre. And boat owners are paying for their services! Great job on this video:) Beautiful boat.

    I have a Ted Hood boat , its not a Little Harbor ( I wish ) but it is an incredible off shore boat. As for the split aft cabin bunk , its allows the rudder post to extend all the way to the deck giving it great support in 3 places instead of being terminated below the bunk at the stuffing box / bearing . It also allows the emergency tiller to be installed above deck without having to tear apart your cabin to get to it. Try that when you need it fast !!! Just look at the quality of this boat ! If you think its expensive go buy a new Benneteau 50 for the same money with glued together liners and a bolt on keel . This is an heirloom yacht that I would feel safe in with my family , they don't build them like this any more ,

    A stellar example of one of my favourite boat manufacturers, I am a big fan of Little Harbor yachts (I consider them the Bently of sailing yachts) and Ted Hood. I briefly considered one on the East coast but mostly because of logistics ended up with a Hylas that was already on the West coast.

    It’s a great layout for long distance offshore cruising, and a pedigreed yacht as well. Looks to be in excellent condition with updated electronics and that new teak deck. As the owner of a 2001 Hinckley Sou’Wester 59, I’m pretty sure this boat isn’t overpriced. I never see boats like this listed without somebody Pooh-pooing the price, but they don’t realize how much it takes every year to maintain the quality of a superior build like this. You get what you pay for. If you want a boat this size for half the price shop Beneteau.

    Very pretty boat. I don't know if I would really classify it as a bluewater boat though:
    (1) A bit too low ballast-to-displacement ratio.
    (2) Might not come around after a knock-down with that flat deck and shallow keel
    (3) Too much unnecessary stuff that can go wrong like hydraulic backstay and furling main.

    • @svsalserenity4375
      @svsalserenity4375 Рік тому +3

      Ballast displacement ratio is 41.7 , she will come up . The capsize screening is 1.7 , very good. I agree on the in mast furling , not a fan . But hydraulics are bullet proof if maintained .

    • @karlholmgren4263
      @karlholmgren4263 Рік тому

      @@svsalserenity4375 Upwards to 50 is more appropriate for a bluewater boat. Also, capsize ration tells you nothing regarding the vessels ability to come up again. Just how hard it is to push over, and in the North Atlantic and Southern Ocean the waves may ALWAYS dwarf the boat. Therefore a knock-down is therefore ALWAYS an option - irrespective of capsize ratio and LOA.

    • @svsalserenity4375
      @svsalserenity4375 Рік тому

      @@karlholmgren4263 agree the numbers don’t tell it all , Hull shape keel rout , has a lot to do with it . Balanced ends are always nice . Position of ballast as well . 50 % still does not mean she will recover from a knock down quickly . My last boat had just over 50 % and she was not a good offshore boat ,

    • @karlholmgren4263
      @karlholmgren4263 Рік тому

      @@svsalserenity4375 That's exactly what I said in my initial comment. Neither the shallow keel, nor the lack of a substantial convex deck / cabin roof supports the bluewater claim.

      @@svsalserenity4375 I sail professionally a Hans Christian 48T with a furling main. We did day sails out of Virgin Gorda for over 15 years. Did about 100 sails a season. Each involved at a minimum 2 sets and reefs. Never a problem. Doyle built a sail with great shape and power. So much easier and safer than conventional reefing, and a lot less hassle than a stack pack. My Bristol 45.5 has one also. The only way to go. In my opinion.

    The age of this boat's hull is largely irrelevant. Solid fiberglass construction could last centuries. What really matters is the age and condition of the gear (engine, rigging, etc...). As the adage goes, "everything is worth what the purchaser pays". I would (potentially) pay $600K for this well before a similar price for a new production boat.
