    Not sure the port rear berth is double nor indeed the single berth single. Not in 2021 at least.

    The aft cabin with two single berths...from what I could see the inside berth looked a narrow. I Don't recall seeing the head or for cabin in the presentation....

      pick your poison!
      the boat looks great, though I think the slow moving electric motors (for the dumb waiter and after berths) is a bit much. A simple mechanical slide & lock would last way longer and easier to fix - if it ever breaks (or breaks in remote areas). These days it is tricky to get any parts!

    Hard to fit a wind vane steerage system for serious cruising , Some nice touches .

    • @fredfisher2699
      @fredfisher2699 3 роки тому

      I recently saw a Tartan (about 42’) with a self-steering wind vane mounted on the port side of the transom. This boat seems to have room for a similar application. First time I’d seen such a system mounted off the centerline of the boat. The love it , and it made for unobstructed access to the sugar scoop stern.

      @@fredfisher2699 I delivered a Hanse 501 , 2 year old from New Caledonia to Hawaii last year with a similar set up , Worked OK for most of the time BUT on the port tack ( witch we had for 1200 miles) in any thing over 15 to 20 knots useless , We had a back up AP witch gave up 4 days out in calm seas .

    • @fredfisher2699
      @fredfisher2699 3 роки тому

      @@billhanna8838 was it the angle of heel that compromised the system, or something else related to wind speed? If so, could that be addressed by a vane that goes deeper into the water to account for heeling?

    I would like to know what speed the engine can move the boat and if that figure stays the same in a moderate sea. Another words, if the engine has enough hp to move it in less than ideal conditions and what the fuel burn rate is.

    • @edmassey
      @edmassey  2 місяці тому

      When Catalina starts building the 545 again the base price will be about $1,300,000.

    Catalans always present well and they all then expose just how poorly they are made since I never met a Cataleana that didn't leak and start to fall apart. The giveaway was how that dumbwaiter struggles or how the trash bin jams on the demo or the ice maker whose door swings so that it cannot be reached from the salon but one has to get all the way into the galley before they can open the door. Lots of features all of which will I'm sure will be so much fun to maintain as the years pass.
