Several years ago, I got very sick. I was on a ventilator for awhile. It was an emergency. When I was well enough to wake up, I still needed to stay in a non-invasive ventilator mask for a while. One of my nurses was a very kind Nigerian woman. She painstakingly detangled my hair and put it in braids that curved around my head in a way to allow the mask straps to sit perfectly on my head. She not only saved my hair but her actions ensured the mask would have a better seal. I'm not even quite sure how she did it with the mask still on me. I don't have African hair texture. I'm Mexican and white. A lot of my hair is coarse, wirey, and wild. Some is soft and wavy. This woman was so gentle with my scalp. It's one of the kindest things another human being has ever done for me and I will never ever forget her.
@smlorrin I wanted to share. She was a remarkable nurse who went above and beyond for me. In addition to that, she was another woman who took such care with another woman's hair. Our hair is our crown. That is love, right there.
I have a story about when I left a braider's chair. After two broken orange rat tail combs while parting my hair I excused myself, walked to my car, and drove away. I blocked her number too. No more foolishness.
Indian hair salons are the exact same, and they do like the craziest dye/highlight jobs and gaslight ppl into thinking it’s good. Story time: I dont get my hair done at Indian salons, but i do get my brows threaded cuz they are the pros at that. I had been going to the same place since I was 15, and two bad experiences in my 20s made me stop going completely. 1) I tell any new brow lady not to thread a certain part of my eyebrow because the hair is already sparse. So, there was a new threader and I told her that. She gave me the most stank look and didnt even acknowledge what i said, just told me to lift my head up. I was praying she understood and just let her do her thing. As she’s doing it, she starts talking to another lady in Hindi about how Im so demanding and specific, how she hates people like me, how my brows aren’t even good to begin with. Mind you, I could literally understand everything. How are you going to speak in Hindi in front of an Indian person and be surprised they understand …. I still gave them a chance because I thought it was just one bad lady. 2) This time I go in and the waiting room is packed. I had an event the next day and needed these caterpillars taken care of no matter what. So I take my seat, and wait. And wait. And wait. It was an hour of waiting. There’s only one person ahead of me, and the place is about to close. THEN, a GROUP of 3 women walk in. And the eyebrow lady, LET THEM CUT THE LINE. The person ahead of me said that they came after us, but maybe they knew them, because they let them cut. You wont believe what happens next. After the three ladies and the woman in front of me are finished, they come to me, THE LAST PERSON LEFT, and say: “Sorry we are closed.” They refuse to do my eyebrows, after I spent 1.5 hours waiting patiently. Every other place is closing, and I speak up, saying Im the last person. They refuse. I call up one other place, which is close by, and tell them what happened, and they agreed to stay open for me and I got my brows done in time for the event. That was the last time i ever went to the original place, and I left a nasty review. It’s unacceptable to treat people that way.. especially LONG TIME customers.
@@StickerSupremecy127 they could tell she’s Indian- if her pic is her, she looks Indian. They probably thought she didn’t speak Hindi because the older gen assume lots of younger people don’t speak their ethnic language-or didn’t think she would speak up/cause a fuss because she’s young. And she obviously didn’t since she came back to the salon. Either way, it’s rude and a sign of a bad person with a bad attitude.
People in the SERVICE industry need therapy so they can give great service People receiving these services should be respectful Familiarity breeds contempt
I'm an introvert, but I am not about to sit in a chair for hours and not voice my objections. I'm paying for a service so I expect it to be done the way I want it.
I’ve been doing my own hair since I was 6, I’m 29 now and I’m not a professionally certified hair stylist and that’s not even close to my industry but every time I do my childrens hair or my own people are always asking me to do their hair lmao. I learned as a teen that people always want your time and effort for free or will love the way your hair looks but will pick apart your work to try and get it for free when you do theirs. So I just tell people I only do my own hair sorry. I have a full time job and a family, my time is spent and free time is scarce!
No fr I agree! For example I do my nails and everyone will talk it up but won’t pay to receive my services. I say no from now on and keep it pushing. I will not allow my time to be wasted 😮💨
I agree. I used to braid my Exs hair and he would use it against me like he would complain the whole time I was always braiding too tight or not tight enough and god forbid I broke even one strand of hair he would freak out then after all that he would sometimes take it out and make me redo it then we got into a fight and he shaved his head like it would effect me somehow but honestly I was just relieved I didn’t have to take care of it anymore. I’m white but I learned how to braid hair because I enjoyed doing it and was board in Juvie jail as a kid, but people would definitely try to take advantage of me all the time braiding like they would try to drop their kids off to me to braid their hair for hours like am I a babysitter where are you going? At one point when my daughter was little I was on welfare and lived in the projects making bank braiding hair, I would schedule out like all day every day, I actually would have to turn people away all the time. People would come to my door and ask for me not knowing I was white and they were always shocked.
The thing i hate about African braiders as an African is that they DO NOT know how to braid 4C/ natural hair! When you go there are are really rough . They want to either relax or blow dry your hair to a crisp. I don't go anymore.. oh yeah ive heard too many horror stories of people losing their edges with a hairstyle that is supposed to be protective😢
I can attest to this. On my first and last experience with an African braiding salon the lady just straight up took a comb and began combing my hair. Mind you, I have very thick, curly hair (my curls are tight ringlets) and it is absolutely _painful_ to just comb them out without any type of moisture to soften them. There was none of that done. Just straight comb and braiding. It looked nice but I would not put myself through that again.
@@kittenchristmas4194 literally had the same experience, chick was brushing with no mercy. After washing she started blow drying my hair with no heat protectant, then proceeded to brush my hair again, I had enough, told her to please be gentle, she then gave me the brush and said , u show me how, she told me she needed to flat Iron my hair because it's natural, I left after that, hair in a puff, I wasn't about to let her go any further.
Yeah, I've heard (and from my own experience feel like) you have to have relaxed hair, smooth to the scalp to avoid the blow dryer death match. My hair + blow dryer death match + too tight braiding left me looking like the Cynthia Doll from Rugrats permanently. I'm mixed with hair that is wavy and fizzy, quite coarse but at the same time delicate. I got braids done in an African salon once and three different ladies worked on me. I was 15 and it was one of the worst decisions of my life. So... I wanted microbraids. My mom had been braiding my hair all my life before this and she didn't think it was hard to braid. My hair doesn't have much curl pattern; it's like zig zaggy crimped-ish and wavy and it sticks out/sorta floats if cut shorter than my shoulders (well it did, now I shave my head because my alopecia areata is so bad.) I've only seen a few other blasians with the same type of hair I have/had. And I really should have been told no to the micro braids. Anyway one of the women started braiding my hair and then she had to leave so I got passed to another woman. Second woman decided to blow out my hair and that blow dryer was the hottest thing I had ever felt. Burned my ears and scalp and fried my hair. Then she braided a bit, while talking on the phone and eventually passed me to the third lady who did a great job. I wish I'd had the third lady the whole time. She did the middle of my head which is the only part that didn't end up BALD. So now I rock wigs or a bald head and have two types of alopecia- traction and areata. It's been fifteen years since then and I'm mostly over it, but sometimes when I talk about it I feel some type of way. And when I think back to the girl I was crying as her hair fell out, I have to take some deep breaths.
I recognized that shop in Harlem from the second clip. I'm from NYC, and let me tell you, I avoid that area of 125th like it's the plague lol. Every single block you walk you have someone asking you if you want your hair braided. Most of the time I'll be polite and respectfully decline. But other times I just have my airpods/beats on and ignore them even if I'm not listening to anything lol. A lot of those shops are...ridiculous to say the least. They'll have their kids & toddlers running around, eating while doing your hair, having hella loud ass conversations on the phone, stepping away to take a break or take care of their kids and not even telling you. It's a mess.
Yeaahhhh, absolutely not. I don’t expect a hair stylist/barber shop to be at the same level of quiet and tidy as a doctor’s office, but I DO expect SOME decorum and cleanliness in the meantime. I get that daycare and babysitters can be expensive, but good grief, is it too much to ask that you at least don’t allow your kid to scream and run around like it’s a playground???
THIS!! I see these ladies on almost every street pushing their service; it sucks so bad that many people probably take the opportunity and end up running an errand for a braider, not getting what they asked for, terrible treatment/care, awful environment, etc etc. This epidemic has me terrified of anyone else but me touching my hair
she wrote ON THE LACE like bro do you know how hard it is to write on a fucking wig??? I dont know either, but i bet its harder than FOLLOWING DIRECTIONSSSSS and writing on paper like everyone else that God blessed with common sense😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
About speaking up at a hairdresser: you run the risk of them purposely ruining your hair if they're vindictive. I changed hairdressers after the woman i went to for a year made a mistake, i corrected her then she "messed up" another thing, another. I cried so hard after i left, I had to buy hair scarfs to cover it up while i waited for it to grow out enough to fix it. The first mistake could have been an honest mistake, but i always, always have pictures of the front, back and side views to show what i want so there isnt confusion. Theres no way she misunderstood every single thing i explained after i corrected her. I ghosted her and have gone to my moms hairdresser since.
Giirrrllll!!!! I PROMISE YOU that they do NOT like doing Senegalese twists. I had a job interview I was getting my hair done for and I wanted the twists. TELL ME WHY when I get there the lady is like I cannot do the twist but I can do box braids… I’m like I don’t want braids I want Senegalese twists, she says I hurt my wrist I can’t do it. I got so lucky that another shop was able to do it and even cancelled an existing appointment to get me in. Senegalese are so expensive too!
I’ve never had those issues with African Braiders but I’m a creature of habit. Once I find some good ones i stick with them lol. I’ll pray for the rest of yall ❤😂
I do my own natural hair, I gave an older lady in her fifties a chance to do my hair. Back in the day the hairstylist demeanor was different and they took pride in their craft. Some Women had a pair of hands that make hair grow. I guess I was wrong, I will show her the hairstyle I wanted. She will give me a style I didn’t want. These were simple styles. I am to old and don’t have the patience for anyone to play in my head. I twist my own hair, it doesn’t cost me a thing. My hair and scalp is healthy since I have been doing my natural hair
My mom was a cosmetologist and hair color (dye) specialist. She was and still is very good at her craft. She didn’t make a lot of money and she worked hard as a single mom. But we never had to pay for a haircut and our hair ALWAYS looked good. Now that I’m a mom, she cuts my daughters’ hair.
WAIT I KNOW THAT 24 HOUR HARLEM SHOP I only went there once and I never looked back because of what happened to me. First of all, I scheduled a 9am just like the person in the video did. I get there at 8:45. The room is indeed packed but my braider in particular texted me and told me she’d see me at 9:15. Okay. Fine. Yeah that was a lie. Someone else had to tell me she’d be late because she wasn’t dropping her kids off with their sitter til 10:45. She told me her sister was at the shop and I could just go to her, and she’d come and finish at 11. I was already pissed. THEN, the sister looked at the hair I brought and said “oh I can’t braid with that.” What? It’s literally the hair I was told to buy. I had taken pictures and asked my original braider if what I had was okay and she said yeah. It was a brand I legit SAW in the shop. But she told me the braids would come out if I used the hair and I was better off just buying some from her. For $50 a pack. Oh and because I was disrupting the sister’s schedule, I’d have to pay extra because she was pushing aside appointments for me so I needed to pay her for her lost clients. I walked out. One of the ladies in there grabbed my arm and tried to convince me to stay but I was fed up. My original braider ended up texting me a novel about how she was going through a tough time and I should think about her kids because the money I was gonna pay her today was gonna help them. Not only that, but I started getting texts from multiple numbers begging me to come back. A bunch of the braiders from that shop started texting me and telling me to come back because I was causing problems and costing them money. I had to block 8 numbers that day because of how much they texted. I do crochet braids now. They’re fun, colorful, and honestly it saves me a lot of time and frustration doing them myself.
Oh wow, that sounds absolutely awful! They most likely just didn’t want you to talk about them online and leave a bad review, but still! That’s unhinged behavior, I would’ve filed a complaint to the police and showed them the text messages. Police most likely wouldn’t have done much, but having something reported on file could protect you in the future if they decide to continue to pester you. Having a paper trail is important with these things.
They couldn't make time to do your hair but had enough time to text you the whole Harry Potter series of texts???? Smh report them. They probably doing some other illegal things there too
I had a braider that was recommended to me by a really good friend. Our usual braider moved 2 city’s away (live in Ontario) so usually it takes around 3-4hrs to get there and then another 3-4hrs to get back home and that was when I lived close! So this new lady’s starts doing my hair. My friend is a really amazing hair dresser but at the time she didn’t know how to braid. My friend would prep my hair before I go to the braiders. Wash, blow dry straight etc. I go to this new braider I show her what I want she gives me something else completely. I ask for a style within my price range and she started complaining about the money she revived after not doing what I asked and charging me way over my price range. As you know when you blow dry your hair straight depending on how you blow dry it can be bone straight. My friend had blow dried my hair and did a small pass with the flat iron. When I went to this lady she saw my hair and sat me down then decided my nearly bone straight hair wasn’t straight enough for her. She took this comb blow drier thing and racked it through my hair. She frizz and damaged it. The entire time I kept thinking is this woman jealous of my hair because the way she ruined my hair it felt spiteful. She also used shine and Jam in my hair when I told her on both occasions where I got my hair done by her that I have a allergic reaction to shine and jam. This lady put that shit on my scalp and kept pretending that she didn’t! I legit saw her add it to my hair as she was parting it and braiding. After that experience I told my friend everything and stopped going to the new girl. My friend dose hair for a living and makes hair products so she was PISSED on my behalf. Especially with the shine and jam stunt as she knows when it’s added to my scalp I itch like I’m trying to claw my brain out of my skull! My scalp becomes inflamed and impossible to do my hair. She also has the same reaction but not as bad. Let’s just say I will travel any distance for my original braider no matter how far she lives! I’m now learning how to do and take care of my own hair. It’s very slow going but I will one day be able to have super cute styles in my hair :D. Right now I’m trying to learn how to part my hair 😅 which is a battle since I have very thick high porosity hair and very weak arms due to a slipped disk in my neck. I’ve been trying to master twisting my hair once I got that on lockdown I’m going to move to single braiding my natural hair, then next step is twisting my hair with braiding hair, then single braiding my hair with braiding hair. It’s going to take a few years but it’s worth it!
Comment for the algorithm... (as a (last born) 52 year old white woman, I always love your content and want to support you, and I have nothing to say except I had no idea that these beautiful hair styles can be so difficult to get.)
They def can be lol. And I’m close to your age (49 will be 50 next year) so we’re from the same era. Being born in 75 to parents that were born in the 40s I’ve been through every form of hairstyling you can think of. Honestly, Chris Rock’s doc “Good Hair” is one of the most honest and respectful coverage of black women hair journey. The worst thing that many of us deal with that is beginning to gain awareness is alopecia. Jada Pinkett highlighted it prior to the “slap” but Chris Rock actually discussed it in the documentary. Losing our crown is difficult and with many African American women, we don’t have many resources, information, and products to remedy this. I believe that’s why many continue to wear wigs etc to cover this but it could be making the situation worse. I feel we are creative with our hair but most of the reason is because we have to and it’s our pride.
@@Feg1989 I’m not gonna get into that debate but wanted to mention it in case someone else did. But Chris rocks doc spoke on it first. And I said she highlighted it not that she had it. I chose my words carefully
This is why I say every phase of your hair journey counts. You can't go natural and just wear weaves and wigs. You have to bond with your hair and learn it. You will get overwhelmed trying to do your own hair when it grows out. Stop skipping steps. Go through the tiny afro stage, learn to twist on short hair so that when its longer you can keep up. Over time you will cut down on how long it takes you to finish, you will get neater , learn tricks etc. But if you just go straight into having alot of hair and you are used to ppl taking care of it you will always be at the mercy of another person.
0:34 ah yes!!! My mom is currently 50, and she keeps telling the hairstylists to keep up with the trend coz hairstyles are upgrading, and even though you're 40 and you've had years of work, if you don't like learning, you'll fall out of your job. 😢
😩 I definitely have a couple of stories; which is why I decided it would be better for me to go with crochet styles. If it doesn't look right, it would be easier for me to take down, and less money lost. The first time I got it done, the African braider left an entire patch of cornrows in the back of my head without hair added. The second time: African American woman started getting tired, and to take a break, called her teen daughter in to pretend to be helping with my hair (without my permission.) I was afraid to look at my hair untill I left town. Some of the locs were knotted into my real hair. I had a hard time getting it out, and decided to wear scarves and baseball caps in the meantime. 3rd Time: Never happened. I contacted another African braider about getting crochet locs. She asked for a picture of my own hair and the crochet hair I planned to use. I sent her the pics, and she quoted me $350. $350!! Where they do that at?? Nobody charges that much for crochet. When I wrote a review about my experience, she responded by claiming that my hair would have taken 7-8 hours. I wrote another review, saying, 'if anyone takes 7-8 hours to do crochet, they do not know what they are doing.' She responded by posting my government name, saying I was trying to ruin her business. No, scamming is ruining your business 🤷🏽
I paid almost $300 for a Fulani braid style I was in there for almost 10 hrs , they kept making up prices , and never told me they only used their own braiding hair , I had to tell them several times to stop pulling my hair and to stop parting so hard , I haven’t went back since even though I looked like a beautiful African goddess I was so coo
I understand what the lady was saying with the 4 inch hair. I'm from the UK we have the exact same hair braider problems. I have one person I go to that has a nice salon, s/m knotless takes 4/5 hrs. she never stops to eat, or shouts in my ears when on the phone. trim the braids, braids all same size..braids could last for 2/3 months you wanted.. but she is quite expensive... then I got to Peckham and salons are a hot mess.. Ive sat down in the chair and 10 mins later she wants to have her breakfast??! what...??!! lol.. braids not trimmed.. and hair only lasts for 3/4 weeks.. but some times you have to take the rough with the smooth - it's way cheaper so know what your going to get - so I still go back.. 🤷🏽♀
Word of advice if I see "hairstylists" on the roadside begging for customers I avoid them like the plague. I only have two hairdressers anyway one Caribbean and one Nigerian. The only 2 women I trust in me and my daughters hair.
So she wanted to explain why it cost less to go to an African braider versus how she braids hair and why she charges more and then proceeds to list all the cons. However she confessed that she would go back again because of the cost since she's not particular regarding the cons because in the end she got a lot more bang for her buck. Umm, okay.
Why are yall complaining?she laid out facts it's not like they were lies. So what if she promoted her business it's HER page..and you kinda chose to watch it so..
I am blessed, I've been with my Senegalese braid lady for 8 years! I still have my edges, and she has "growing 🤲🏾" 😊. She is the only braider who doesn't mind that I have oil in my hair. She catches it all. She will get my money until the day she or I don't want braids anymore 😂. I've even learned a little of the Wolof language.
Mannnn I AM SOOO GUH-LAD my daughter does braids, crochet hair; all that stuff She’s reasonable and she neverrrr everrrr has extra fees. These stylists are down right abusive!😡
Girl!!! I love all your videos but the hairstylist videos are my favorite 😂 I'm also in the self-taught gang. One of the best things I ever did for myself ❤ I also relate so much when you said you don't care how much money someone pays you 😂I did my friend's hair a couple of times for free and I was so done lol 😆 I enjoy doing my hair but I have no passion to touch anyone else hair.
25:33 branders aren’t allowed to shampoo unless they usher a license. They consider shampoo as chemicals and you can’t handle those without a license. If someone tells on then state board will fine them or maybe warning idk my teacher never got that far
That's the SAMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE reason I learnt to braid! When I came to the UK in 2014 and that store quoted me £100 to braid (ONLY!) armpit length hair, I carried my two £2.50 kanekalon hair and sat myself infront of my mirror at home Because I was going to perfect my braining one way or another by myself
31:25 These days, laughing is not part of any of this. I lost my little brother to an accidental fentanyl od, and this story horrified me. To your last comment, there's no guarantee that it wasn't fentanyl, or laced with fentanyl - nearly all street drugs are now. Thankfully, she had the wherewithal to wash it and her hands, because that could have been a much more tragic story.
The girl at 19:56 was annoying af lmao like girl if you go to a questionable hair braider then say you’ll go again, why would I want YOU to do my hair?? Lmao
You have VERY QUICKLY and VERY EASILY become my very most favorite channel to watch when I’m in need of this type of content, you’re extremely good at it. I cannot believe you’re in your 20s and got it figured out this well this quickly and so creatively think of things to cover that I’ve never even thought of before in general, that doesn’t mean this video lol I’ve thought about this before, but there’s some that I had never even known existed that you’ve covered topics wise and I love every second of every video, no lie and I just think you’re the Biz miss business not only can I just put your videos on and bend them while I’m cooking or cleaning or falling asleep or getting my coffee made in the morning to get motivated but I also quite literally learn something every single video I watch. I think the world of you!!
I’m so with you about learning to do your own hair. When I moved to NYC over 25 years ago an amazing blowout could be had for $20. When the price jumped to $25 I said to myself I see a trend here and it’s only going to get worse. When I tell you I bought myself the best blowout brushes and a hot hairdryer to learn and perfect my blowout skills. Nowadays blowouts go for around $40+ which I will not be paying because I do my own way better than actual stylists. I’ve spoiled myself to the point that if I do happen to splurge on one I find myself going home and fixing it with my own hair dryer and brushes. I feel like they don’t make it as bouncy as I do. 😂🤷🏻♀️
Went to an African braider once when I was nine and got mini braids (idk why nobody stopped me 😮💨) single most painful experience in my life and when I took their hair down my curl pattern was stuck wavy for a few months.
I'm white. It's the same with with us if we want highlights or something that involves a colorist. I always do research on salons, and their staff. See whose an experienced colorist and how many years. I have a hairstylist and colorist now. She does a fantastic job. Women just need to do research on the salon, and staff before booking an appointment if it's your first time going. That goes for any hair type. Experience on what your looking to get done is key.
I've been to an African braiding shop a couple of times and boy.. If you aren't there BEFORE they open you're gonna be waiting hours to get serviced. The only two times I waited was because I needed my hair done for an event and I knew they would be more on the affordable side. I've heard people say they make up prices which I believe, I saw a girl 'crash out' in a braiding shop over the price being different from what they told her over the phone. My stylist now is African but she has a legit salon AND she washes + blow dries your hair. Last time I went I spent $250 with a $15 tip(It was supposed to be $300 but she stopped 6 times during the service to service other clients...)
18:02- Why are they pulling her hair up and trying to comb braids? After the hair is braided down and you pull up said braid that day through a week later, you are literally snapping off and out your roots because of tightness and trying to move the anchored hair. People braid way to tight and it is not ok. It’s a shame you can not let anyone just do your hair without monitoring them every step and check them when need be. It’s like they forget you are a living person with pain receptors.
I started doing my hair during LD, when everything was closed. I watched you tube for help. And though it can be tough to do it on my own, i have saved time, money and embarrasment. I am out of hair prison...no hairdresser can hold me hostage...i experiment with different braids and although it's not tip top notch, my styles get me through my daily life. Just started experimenting with clips in and loving it. Dont be held to ransom ladies...try working on your own hair every now and then...
5:35 Wooooowww not this video helping me realize my stylist was not correctly blending my hair. no wonder it never looked the same as the pictures of the fully mixed hair i’d SHOW her along with the proportions
Introvert with anxiety here but i will never ever let anyone fuck up my nails, my hair, no nothing and not calling the manager, some of these stories are wild
I’m so sorry to all the people that have had a bad experience with African braiders 😢 In the UK the African aunties are the ones who are THE BEST - they braid neatly and don’t apply too much heat and are faster than everyone else, braids come out looking like Lagos braids🥰
I'm white, never gonna use braids, never will braids come into my life but for some reason I love watching hair braiding videos they're so relaxing and satisfying! Those Senegalese braids looked so prettyyyy.
Yep..i use to go to African hair braiding shop. Fanta, Roma Bintu...They way they look at u when u walk in tho😂 they are sizing you up...I was already in a chair and i noticed girls that walk in with 3c hair get treated better. 4c girls get frowns and judgement...she told one girl her head was too big so she charge more for more time spent 😂 Side eye...if u complain about too tight or too heavy handed...they will switch u to another braider...service is too expensive for bad attitudes. FF to today, ive learned to do my own box braids, crochet and twists...no more scalp soreness no more $200 fees. and my hair has grown out....I'm the best braiding expert to myself 😅...
Im not familiar with this type of lace, but for ppl who ever need to get sharpie off ANYTHING... use rubbing alcohol. It will get sharpie off everything from clothing, to walls to shoes and probably this type of lace too
I like the African braiders in my town. They run late doing other people sometimes and that pushes other clients back too. It happens at regular salons too. Man we are blessed here 😂
Idk why kindof African shops These women are going to. the one I go to here in San Diego is amazing. The ladies are incredibly sweet, provide the hair, grease your hair, and work fast.
I relate to the lady with the Fanta African Braiding review. The lady started my hair and then a women came in with her child and my braider asked me to go to another braider. Fine. The second braider completed my hair, but I had to walk her through the process of not braiding my brain with my hair. Then they had the nerve count my money twice just to make certain I paid them correctly. That was 8 years ago. Never again. I have also convinced other family members not to go back to any of them because they can be disgusting in many ways..
I've had hairstylists that were too liberal with their own opinions where I wanted a certain shade, & they did what they thought "looked best with my skintone". My hair ended up yellow, not blonde. It hurts more when something is wrong and expensive, it's a double blow. I just went home & cried... next time I went in I said I don't want this color giving them the benefit of the doubt it was a mistake... and they did the same like they know better not giving me what I asked for. I ended up going to a different salon where my hair was never ripped from my head and whatever color I asked for, I got (unless it was rainbow colors or something). My mom kept going to the same old stylist and her red hair changed from what she liked to this dark scarlet red... she was told it was what was best... but I can't feel sorry she didn't walk away. Not everyone wants to cause a scene, & if your stylist is nice you give them multiple chances... so I pay my money & then never go back.
Girllll I am a regular ass hairdresser, I can’t even do a French braid 😂 I could NEVERRRR be unprofessional with what I do! Omg Edit: I should NOT have laughed at how you ended this video 💀
That's such a wonderful story about a remarkable woman. Thank you so much for sharing it with us.
❤❤❤
@smlorrin I wanted to share. She was a remarkable nurse who went above and beyond for me. In addition to that, she was another woman who took such care with another woman's hair. Our hair is our crown. That is love, right there.
Above and beyond care. I would come back to her with a fruit basket or flowers
It’s so beautiful that she found EVEN MORE ways to save people even further beyond the critical career she chose!
I have a story about when I left a braider's chair. After two broken orange rat tail combs while parting my hair I excused myself, walked to my car, and drove away. I blocked her number too. No more foolishness.
😂😂😂 I'm so sorry that you had to experience that. I have hair that broke several brushes, so believe me I understand lol
How’s that your fault though?
Combs only break in hair because the person using the comb is clearly not detangling properly. (For those who don’t know lol)
@@juke4yagirl You'd think after the first couple breaks you'd have learned something. If its true.
I learn something today …. Thanks comments lol 😅

Speaking hindi in front of you is crazy. I guess they couldn't tell you were Indian?
@@StickerSupremecy127 they could tell she’s Indian- if her pic is her, she looks Indian. They probably thought she didn’t speak Hindi because the older gen assume lots of younger people don’t speak their ethnic language-or didn’t think she would speak up/cause a fuss because she’s young. And she obviously didn’t since she came back to the salon.
Either way, it’s rude and a sign of a bad person with a bad attitude.

I have tried many salons, but many stylists do a terrible job, and their customer sevice is horrible.
This!!!!
No fr I agree! For example I do my nails and everyone will talk it up but won’t pay to receive my services. I say no from now on and keep it pushing. I will not allow my time to be wasted 😮💨
I say “I’m sure we can make a trade that’ll be mutually worthwhile” and the greedy ppl don’t ask again and the cool ones want more info
Same I had to stop ppl cause they never wanted to pay. No time for it. I have kids and a job.
Colonization was very successful unfortunately
Protective hairstyles protect your scalp from actual hair...

I'm sorry that happened to you. Hairdressers have big egos!
The lack of communication on her end is annoying!!
I feel her pain though I did twists on my sister once and my wrist was down for the count for days
They don't like doing hair period.
I’ve never had those issues with African Braiders but I’m a creature of habit. Once I find some good ones i stick with them lol. I’ll pray for the rest of yall ❤😂
That’s honestly the best way to go. You find someone that’s good at their job, does it exactly like how you wanted it, and you never let go lol

Yo, the way I spent HOURS studying braiding tutorials just to save money 😂
This!!
You're not wrong
When you said be prepared for whatever style they gave you, that hit home for me.
WAIT I KNOW THAT 24 HOUR HARLEM SHOP
I only went there once and I never looked back because of what happened to me.
THEN, the sister looked at the hair I brought and said “oh I can’t braid with that.”
What?
❤I know your frustration, firsthand. Think about her kids?? SHE should have thought about them before trying to scam someone.😩
8 numbers?!! Geez, that sounds unhinged.
OMG that's so unprofessional. Yeah, that's another reason to do your own hair. Multiple people texting you is a no. That's weird ASL.

Literally 😭😭
What shop do you go to in peckham? I just take my chances on the high street and hope for the best :D
Literally go to paks, walk up to the first African lady you see and ask if she's a hairdresser. There's a 98 percent chance that she would be.
Word of advice if I see "hairstylists" on the roadside begging for customers I avoid them like the plague. I only have two hairdressers anyway one Caribbean and one Nigerian. The only 2 women I trust in me and my daughters hair.
Currently rocking Senegalese twists. Thank you to my braider. She's freaking amazing. I've been going to her for 8 years.
So she wanted to explain why it cost less to go to an African braider versus how she braids hair and why she charges more and then proceeds to list all the cons. However she confessed that she would go back again because of the cost since she's not particular regarding the cons because in the end she got a lot more bang for her buck. Umm, okay.

What are the odds that you post this when I just got off the phone with 10 different Braiding places, trying to get me some Boho knotless braids 😭😆
10? Oh no 🤦♀️
I just looked those up online. Very nice.
@@BusiswaGgirl I ended up going to my normal braider and getting knotless braids with curly ends 😆💕
25:33 branders aren’t allowed to shampoo unless they usher a license. They consider shampoo as chemicals and you can’t handle those without a license. If someone tells on then state board will fine them or maybe warning idk my teacher never got that far
Hmmm, is that why a lot of these new braiders be expecting you to do half their job before you show up? They’re not licensed beauticians 😭
I knew you came from South Africa as soon as I saw your name. Hi from a fellow South African. Take care and be well🙏❤🇿🇦
Just be grateful it wasn’t fentanyl 😐
Lmaoo that caught me off guard 😂😂
It’s true.
That's the SAMMMMMEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE reason I learnt to braid! When I came to the UK in 2014 and that store quoted me £100 to braid (ONLY!) armpit length hair, I carried my two £2.50 kanekalon hair and sat myself infront of my mirror at home
Because I was going to perfect my braining one way or another by myself
31:25 These days, laughing is not part of any of this. I lost my little brother to an accidental fentanyl od, and this story horrified me. To your last comment, there's no guarantee that it wasn't fentanyl, or laced with fentanyl - nearly all street drugs are now. Thankfully, she had the wherewithal to wash it and her hands, because that could have been a much more tragic story.
The girl at 19:56 was annoying af lmao like girl if you go to a questionable hair braider then say you’ll go again, why would I want YOU to do my hair?? Lmao
When I tell you that first lady in the car had me CRYING 🤣 And as a "last born" it HAD to have been the case 😂😭
Shout out for the older sisters!!! The babies be driving us crazy with their antics but you still love and adore them anyway…I miss mine❤😂😢
I go to an African braider and they do the same exact thing in the skit at the start lmfao(but they seem to actually know how to do the hair)
I love to get my hair braided. I love my braider. My braider is from Honduras. She does a really good job.
“I have a series of questions for you….” LMAO
The sister wrote ON THE LACE? sharpies write on lace? 😮 what miscommunication happened there
Thats not miscommunication 😂😂 that is what happens when the only brain cell goes on strike😂
@@HighAsHeckPriestess Maybe the sister didn't know how lace wigs work.
20:34 I thought the same thing I was like girl you are not sleek we know what you are doing 😂😂
It’s like they forget you are a living person with pain receptors.
i went to nail school and while i don’t work in a salon anymore, i’ll never ever have to deal with a salon again because i can do them myself
If it looked like how hers did then yeah, she did you wrong.
I only have one Nigerian braider that I trust in my head otherwise my number one braider is Caribbean.
African auntie always does what she's gonna do on your head 😂😂😂
The way we made eye contact while making the same face at 19:59 after she said, “But would I go again? Probably”😂😂😂
Two days in a row? Nice
Hello✨
Keep the videos coming queen💖💖💖👑👑👑
Omg, that poor woman in the pink top, that was upsetting to see.
That first story is definitely baby sibling behavior 😂
I'm white, never gonna use braids, never will braids come into my life but for some reason I love watching hair braiding videos they're so relaxing and satisfying! Those Senegalese braids looked so prettyyyy.
These people are sharp as marble
😂😂😂
Yep..i use to go to African hair braiding shop. Fanta, Roma Bintu...They way they look at u when u walk in tho😂 they are sizing you up...I was already in a chair and i noticed girls that walk in with 3c hair get treated better. 4c girls get frowns and judgement...she told one girl her head was too big so she charge more for more time spent 😂
Side eye...if u complain about too tight or too heavy handed...they will switch u to another braider...service is too expensive for bad attitudes. FF to today, ive learned to do my own box braids, crochet and twists...no more scalp soreness no more $200 fees. and my hair has grown out....I'm the best braiding expert to myself 😅...
I got micro locs in March of 2023. The best decision that I’ve made for my hair. 🙂
Oooooh this happened to me, by a braider I had been going to consistently FOR YEARS and sent her MANY customers!!!!
Yes this real. It happened to me at two different shops.
🤣I am sorry, but lmao @ synnicle twists🤦🏽
😂😂
Im not familiar with this type of lace, but for ppl who ever need to get sharpie off ANYTHING... use rubbing alcohol. It will get sharpie off everything from clothing, to walls to shoes and probably this type of lace too
I like the African braiders in my town. They run late doing other people sometimes and that pushes other clients back too. It happens at regular salons too. Man we are blessed here 😂
"international slay mama" 😂
The babe at 22:00 was really just promoting herself lol
Yup!
It is definitely a skill to be confrontational without starting a fight. There is a way to go about it.
I struggled with finding a braider and a rule of them don’t go to home based braiders in most cases it won’t work!!! I’m now going to a salon 💇♀️ 😂
I so enjoyed the "you were there!" rat, so true!
I really just don’t ask my little sister to do anything for me 😂😂 not gonna mess up my stuff
When I was younger I got box braids in the Bahamas, I loved them and the lady who did it I was a kid.
I just love your personality 😂
Idk why kindof African shops
These women are going to. the one I go to here in San Diego is amazing. The ladies are incredibly sweet, provide the hair, grease your hair, and work fast.
This is why I’ll teach my daughter how to do her own hair just like mommy cuz chile 😂
Omg
Edit: I should NOT have laughed at how you ended this video 💀
Hahahah oh goodness.
All facts. 😂
Never been this early!!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
I love your videos so much. I’m so glad you’ve been posting so frequently! The hard work is paying off.❤
