The industry has truly changed in the last 20 years!! I went to Cosmetology school in the mid-'90s and this is NOT how it was!! The first chapter in all books is called "The Professional Image". You don't wash hair, you shampoo it! Professionals sound like professionals!! I've been a Licensed Nail Tech since July 2010 and I've been watching the industry morph into a nightmare! A majority of these people you're highlighting are either unlicensed or they went to a ghetto school that didn't whip them into shape!! So, the "no extra guests" thing came about for a few reasons: 1. People were bringing their unruly kids and damages usually occured. 2. The salons are small with no extra seating, by design. 3. Some salons are owned & rented out by non-industry people who refuse to understand salon culture. They just see $$ and extra people to them magically equals extra money to them.
I like the "no extra guests" rule but I'm gonna need the stylist as well to keep their whole extended family at home, too. I have never been to a salon that doesn't have someone's baby crawling around on the dirty floor. The kid is also very loud (and I admittedly don't like children, so the sound of them is very grating) and the family brings the loudest, most obnoxious toys with them. I went to a salon last year where the kid was playing with a toy teaching the ABC's and so you'd hear that song every five minutes at top volume. To be fair, the little boy did begin to recite the alphabet, which must've been new as it surprised the family as well and that was kind of cute, but it would've been great if both he and the toy (and one of the plethora of family members who were standing around) had been left at home.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley Had a school internship for a hair dresser for three weeks and children where there on occasion and luckily they are all so sweet The only noise problem I had were the noises of the salon itself (hair driers and the like) I think it's always important that parents much more tell their children when they are too loud then not accepting guest because no way I hell I go to one on my own I'm way to terrified for that
Yeeeeesssss! You said it perfectly. There's a lot of resentment in these rules and policies. It was probably one or a few bad customers, and now they take it out on everybody. The tone of these policies is so aggressive. It turns people away.
You can literally sense the attitude in some of these policies. Like damn you mad at me for something I didn’t even do!! Let me be a problem before you get an attitude.
Doing a touch up on a style from another stylist actually sounds like an opportunity to gain a new customer. You can do a better job than the previous stylist.
I understand why hairstylist wouldn’t want to though, because if the work is really bad before it can cause delays or they may have to redo the style altogether. For instance, if there’s a lot of buildup or just poor work they may not want to take the time to fix it when they could just do a whole style.
This, I will say is industry standard. A stylist has no idea what was previously don’t to your head most times. Many clients also don’t exactly know or they claim less was done because they don’t want the service turned down. Standard has always been: Not generally working behind someone else unless extenuating circumstances. Doing a strand test to determine the integrity of the hair before hand. This actually leads to why many old school stylists wouldn’t. If you came with any chemical processing that required certain steps it immediately becomes a correction. If you wanna be blonde and you have 5 different tones of hair color under black box dye baby at that point I’m not making you blonde-I’m removing color which is a service in and of itself, and I’m correcting the color issues to get the hair even so we can THEN start your journey to blonde. A lot of clients don’t wanna pay for all that. And an old school stylist is not about to do a 3 hour color removal/correction and an additional 2 session color job plus trim and style for the same price as someone with virgin hair coming in off the street.
@@janiquemaynard9593 Does it matter tho ? When it’s your first time sitting in someone’s chair, someone else before them already has done your hair before or even yourself. This kind of makes no sense, esp considering how much history (coloring, heat, chemicals etc that was done to the hair before) can hold.
It's getting so bad if you apply for housing they start asking about cash deposits over $100 and want proof in writing if it's a gift and some even asked for the person to sign the paper. It's to much so at this point I'll take cash only and keep it in my pocket 😂
I thought it was more a thing where you can’t file a chargeback if you pay certain ways. But if they accepted PayPal goods and services or some other form, you would be able to do a chargeback if they didn’t do the service properly and you wanted your money back
Not really, cash app,Zelle, etc all fintech companies report to the government if you receive over a certain amount of money. So they will still have to pay taxes. I think it is to avoid being scammed via chargebacks.
I’m glad you posted this my “loctician” was just rude to me yesterday and after a year she doesn’t know/remember my name. I ended up getting my friend’s 18yr daughter to do my hair instead for half the price.
i have locs and am 7 yrs down. i had a last start mine but i took over after that crochet my hair and all maintenance. just learn how to do your hair it’s much easier and free and you know what’s going on with your locs
Omg that’s so awful! I had a doctor forget a lot about me and just left them a week ago. It’s such a terrible feeling when you stay loyal to someone and YOU help pay their bills!!
I don't like the " secret" location stylist. They want you to send deposits, read through all these policies but won't tell you where they are located until they get your money. I need to know ahead of time if I booked at the trap house.
It also seems like a scam because there is no location, they'll ghost or send you to a random place. If they're scared of people knowing where they live they need to get a salon booth or only work out of places that have secured entrance so not just anyone can walk up to their door. 😊
It’s pretty simple. These people don’t have a passion for hair. It’s a hustle for them, so they’re squeezing as much money from it as possible, while doing the lease amount of work they can. It’s because they don’t like doing hair for real for real. People who love doing hair will be all up and through your hair, down to your scalp. They know about hair care, maintenance, hair health, hair types, etc., because they love doing hair. Don’t go to hustler stylists. Go to passionate professionals because these are the ones who deserve your hard earned money. Not these frauds who see you as a means to an end.
Thank you!!! I’ve been doing hair since the 90s and their lack of passion shows. And whoever said we shampoo hair, we don’t wash hair was correct!! There are little things a person can say to let you know that they are unprofessional.
Omg yes! This is exactly what I’ve been saying. You can tell when someone is passionate about something and when someone is just looking for another come up or hustle.
Nothing but truth here. My clients certainly know and appreciate the difference. The goal is to educate u as the client on maintaining ur hair so u don't undo all my hard work. We want healthy, beautiful, manageable hair for our clients
Cash, Zelle, Apple Pay means no bank dispute. They even get slick w the booking sites because you’ll pay the deposit on the site and have to pay the rest upfront via there payment method. Then they’ll cancel the appointment so it doesn’t go against their stats.
I been stopped getting my hair done by these braiders and hairstylists when they all kept putting “no oils or products in your hair before appointment” in their policies . This is why a lot of people experience damage after these so called “protective styles” , the hair is being styled with no moisture being locked in the hair. Just some gel and mousse . I happily do my own hair now .
I have had this thought before as well. I would never trust clients to put their own butters, oils, and sealants in their hair (they’re going to do too much lol my aunt still puts so much oil in her hair it looks wet all the time) but I would absolutely offer moisturizing and sealing as part of the service to ensure their hair will thrive, and the hairstyle won’t be compromised because it’s at your professional discretion.
This is true, I have came to a stylist like this who told me to come with no products in my hair. I experience sooo much breakage from the hairstyle, never have I ever had the kind of damage done to my hair. These stylists aren't worth it. They know NOTHING about hair care
This is why I value proper grammar and punctuation. It shows me you at least care. You look more professional. If I read something that looked like - I am not doing more than what your asking me to do the day of. That ONE mess up will make me pass up your advertisement. It just reminds me of those scam emails. Red flag all over, for me.
FACTS!! Wrong "your", wrong "there", using apostrophes on "plural's", I don't trust. Make an effort. Google words you can't spell, we literally have autocorrect, there is no excuse not to do the bare minimum.
Thank goodness my local independent hairstylist is NOTHING like this. Like she went out of her way to travel 45min to my house, bleached my entire head of hair to platinum in about 7hours and charged me $50!! I was like nooooo I would feel like I'm cheating you! Lol Idk what kind of price is fair for that service so I gave her $130
@vunne9110 arizona. And Ikr! I figured it would be around $300 but just incase I had $600 ready. Maybe she's doing VERY well in life that this is just a pass time hobby 😆
“Hairstylist” behavior. A beautician would NEVA! Even beauticians who are falling out of love with doing hair don’t neglect their customers like this. It’s always these unlicensed “hairstylist” acting like they’re fed up and bothered by an industry they honestly never cared about; if they really wanted to learn hair, they would’ve went to school for it to REALLY get into it. Never let a “stylist” play in your hair; only go to a licensed beautician or just do it yourself. 🤷🏽♀️
@ there are exceptions of course. I know there are some “stylist” who don’t act like this. It’s just a safer bet to go to someone who cared enough to make it a profession by investing their time and money by going the traditional route of getting their license. There are some that are just trifling people and it definitely reflects in their practices.
I have a theory that the bad font + lack of punctuation is Canva overuse again. They are using templates made for much less text and just type directly into the template with no second look because it "already looks nice". Look at the fonts and icons used, they are very similar. It might even be leftover text in their long ramblings that mess up the whole flow.
Now if we the customer start asking to see their criteria, school records, license information, and professional references and would we be wrong 🤔 because I honestly wonder if any of these people actually went to school
oh they go bonkers…i asked one about her license and got read to filth…like ma’am ppl that have licenses love to talk about them it’s not a dig it’s an actual question cuz you’re about to be in my head lol
I remember a time when the only things that costed extra was waxings, snacks, and facials. PPL today are struggling, but dont realize their clientel is ALSO struggling. Im not paying $200 for 6 oversized cornrow braids just for them to braid it down with itchy hair and the braids be knocked and crooked like a crackheads teeth!
I remember as a child, when it was time to get my hair braided or twisted the braid lady would wash, dry, grease and part the hair and then braid it (it would take half a day). That was part of the hair styling. Now you gotta do half the work before you even walk in the door these days. Bring back old school stylists/braiders!
I love this content. I’m from South Africa and none of this exists. You see a salon, walk in and do your hair. 🤣🤣 bring a friend, have a drink sometimes and we laugh, chat and take it as bonding with the girls. This is too much admin just to get our hair done.
Not just in S.A, I think it's a lot of African countries. I'm Kenyan and I can just walk in on any salon and do my hair. Do not try this on sunday afternoons because most clients are in a rush to prepare for Monday and you will have to wait
I don’t care how good they are I would never book an appointment with stylist with their tone set. I understand having rules but I am reading attitude, no thanks.
I 100% think everyone deserves to have rules and polices for their business - professionally worded, and out for everyone to see. Attitude is definitely a problem. I'm caucasian and I'm having a really hard time finding a stylist in my city, people are over complicated situations and getting mad at each other
Like I know hair and graphic design are two totally different arts but...... I feel like, if you can't do something simple like recognize your font looks crazy, why should anyone trust you with their whole head? Attention to detail is probably a little bit of a transferable skill between the two?
I live in Canada & I just started going to a Dominican hair Salon in my area. I don’t need to book an appointment, they offer walk ins & I never wait more than 10 minutes. I’m tenderhearted so they’re gentle with me & I love the scalp massage during the wash.
Same here in Texas. I go to a Spanish lady but she is always booked! But she charges a fair price for a silk press/Dominican blow out (49$ for short hair and $59 for long hair and $10 for cutting split ends)! She’s quick and efficient. Book online, reschedule online if needed or cancel with in 24 hours. No deposit not crazy policy. I love her. In and out and feel amazing.
These hairstylists are crazy!!!! Them all having cash app only? That screams, I’m not a licensed stylist!!! My daughter is a stylist & she definitely doesn’t do cash app🤷🏻♀️ she’s using a payment app that is one lots of stylist use. I schedule for her & went to cosmetology school as well! We don’t have any of these “rules” our rules are, just don’t be a jerk!!!!! They want cash app so it’s not in a federal bank, where they can trace the money! We live in the desert in Southern California, maybe we are just running with a chill vibe, no drama allowed!!! Oh wait, should we put that in all caps??? LOL Yes!!!! Bring back another video, I’m loving the videos😃
All electronic payments through Zelle, apple etc… are traceable by the IRS, the cash is not, but it only takes one unhappy customer to report them and they will be doing hair in prison for commissary goods! Some of the rules are reasonable, some are ridiculous! I want to know what happens if a client shows up on time, but the stylist is late? Will the client get a discount if the stylist is still working on another client when they arrive and they have to wait 45 minutes until they finish? Respect goes both ways! Some of these rules are understandable, some are a bit ridiculous and biased towards the stylist, and I would not choose a stylist with unprofessional rules or expectations. You work for the client, they should not be calling you the day before their appointment to remind you they are still coming 24 hours before their appointment- you should be sending them an appointment reminder, they don’t send them to you! Even a doctors office is not this demanding!
I had a stylist who was habitually late. I would wait for her to mention a discount or something.....nope! Oh, and I had another one have an emergency and cancel my sew-in for my wedding.
@@nicolew6904 I’m very patient when they are working and they fall behind schedule because their procedures took longer than expected, but if your stylist was showing up to work late while you sat there waiting past your appointment time, that is not acceptable! And the one who canceled the sew in for a wedding, that’s huge deal breaker, I hope you found someone last minute, and I hope you left reviews everywhere, to warn others so they don’t have the same issue you did, on a special day.
I always appreciate when people are considerate enough to display all their red-flags up front. 🚩 Makes it easy for introverts like me to weed out the bad matches before committing to face-to-face interactions. ❤
I feel like a lot of these rules probably came from them getting jerked around. Like if you don't set any standards or have any consequences people will just treat you however, unfortunately. That said, some of the fees do start getting ridiculous and the way they're written can sound really abrasive. Also I loved your yelling the all caps, it was cracking me up.
I’m an Esthetician and clients absolutely try you. People see you as a service provider and then treat you as if your time and skill aren’t important (yet they can’t do it themselves). So I get it from both sides. Still, they are doing too much. I’ve had to just suck it up and eat it when dealing with clients. There is no way to 100% prevent trifling behavior from clients. Being personable, understanding, and flexible will win every time and you’ll build a clientele that respects you and is happy to come see you. Black hairstylists can get away with this behavior because black women are dependent on their services. I do think trifling attracts trifling, every service provider I know has clients that are pretty much like them lol.
@Astr0629 honestly I work in a doctors office, and the attitude on some people is mind boggling. I think it's fair to have a basic deposit, late, and noshow rules. If you booked a 5 hr service, and someone doesn't show up or call, that's really rude, and is a waste of your time and money. Definitely agree it goes both ways.
Spoiler: last lady was fair IMO. Forgot to add that part. Don’t forget, get your business licensed and do it the right way so we don’t have these problems.
Why would there be a travel fee if you r already heading to that place? Also they are saying cash, zelle or apple pay only because they think they can get away with not reporting income to the IRS. that how they able to retain 90% of their money.
Why do stylists even bother with the aggressive "NO WEEKENDS" or "NO HOLIDAYS". If you have an online booking portal set up, people can see the times you have available appointments.
19:10 THANK YOU for caring about grammar, punctuation, and definitions of what words mean. There are very serious reasons why grammar, punctuation, spelling and solidified definitions of words matter. Without those structural rules in place, you slowly begin to lose the concept of people agreeing on what things mean. And that leads to so much unnecessary drama.❤❤
I am a receptionist at a LEGITIMATE hair salon and this is giving me anxiety. My job is a full time thing and it sounds like they don’t have a receptionist and they’re doing all the bookings and services by themselves so I get why their rules are so intense. The only rules I agree with are the deposits which are standard procedure. But gossip is a must lol I’d want to hear all the tea!!!
I remember a time when you would book a hair appointment, and then show up to get your hair pampered (washed, dried, styled). Now, you have to do 50% of the work and get charged 100%. This is why I don’t trust most beauticians.
I'm just here to say, girl, you are too cute! I'm not a POC but I love watching poc hair tutorials because the talent is just amazing! I'm assuming UA-cam pulled you into my algorithm because of that and I'm so thankful!
Loving your videos!! As a fellow grammar police, I absolutely approve of your verbal red editing pen! Literacy rates are falling and the dependency on texting language has really got to stop. At least use spell check! Even grammarly has a free AI. Question: is dropping off the wig/lace front/bundle in advance normal? If the stylist is asking the client to clean and prep the hair, what is the purpose of requiring it to be delibered in advance? Is this another way of insuring the client attends their appoontment?
Im a nail tech and work in a pretty nice salon in NYC. New clients are shocked by how simple our policies are lately and this video explains it😂! Basically the rules are show up for your appointment or at least call to cancel/reschedule. No calls/no shows are black listed. If you cancel too often like more than 3 times in a few months is the only time we use the policy that is technically on our books and we require them to have a CC on file and they pay 1/2 the service price on the 4th same day cancelation. They also sign a contract about that. However, I haven't ever had anyone force me to charge that cancelation fee. I 100% understand both sides on some of the issues. Some people are bizarre and make appointments that they never keep, it feels like they are playing make believe. The problem is on our end, that we most likely turned other people away to hold your appointment open and then we lose money because of that. I'm also not talking about people who get sick or have a legitimate emergency, I'm talking about people who make appointments, confirm the appointment 1-2 days before and then when I call them 10 minutes after they were supposed to arrive and they just say they aren't coming and act like I'm inconveniencing them for even asking! I do feel for everyone who gets scammed tho. That just hurts everyone, including the real professionals who are just trying to provide a service and make a living.
Cousins were math teachers and principals, and aunt is HS english teacher. I felt every grammar issue and missing punctuation as you were reading. Ive had my hair braided by 2 people with these rules. I dont think they had late fees but the wash +blow dry was something i had to do. Overall they were fine but felt weird just having my bare hair out and dry like that. I prefer doing my own now but it was a new experience thats for sure.
I love this content. I’m from South Africa and none of this exists. You see a salon, walk in and do your hair. 🤣🤣 we bring a friend, have a drink sometimes and we laugh, chat and take it as bonding with the girls. Things are tough in the USA.
Yebo sisi, I miss my Durban stylist. No drama or fuss. In London now, go to a SA owned salon but have book way in advance and pay a 50% upfront fee. Fortunately, gossip is encouraged. 😂
No but like i was going to go schedule an appointment with the woman who used to do it (a nice older woman who only messed me up ONCE and that was when she gave me a whole bowl cut but that's it's own story) and found there was a new salon there. I spent l less than 10 minutes on her site. She had an obligatory $160 hair detox before you could ever have her style your hair. Then you also had to pay to book that (iirc it was abt $50). I went down her list of what she could do-- Wash and blow were not included and were an add as was cutting ends. That was more than enough for me to know I should keep sticking with my natural hair LMAO
Like what do you mean i have to have you detox me. Then i have to come back and pay for the actual style by way of another booking fee. Then i have to add on to you ACTUALLY taking care of my hair on top of that for something that doesn't take but half a minute to do 😂 girl NO!!!
WAIT A MIN.... ✋🏾 I have NEVER heard of any business making YOU as the customer INITIATE a message to confirm... THEY always send out a reminder 24 hours prior to.
I remember when I got my hair braided years ago and I was as falling asleep. The African hair braider said with her accent” don’t fall asleep” as she pulled my head up. It was actually hilarious. I do understand that it’s harder to do someone’s hair with them sleep . However if I’m paying you I should be able to sleep . The African movies they had on was putting me to sleep 😂😂
To be fair, you can talk without gossiping 🤷🏾♀️ I personally went to a salon where they gossiped about past clients, and I found that to be thoroughly unprofessional. So no gossiping seems fair to me
Mine tangles between each swipe of the brush 😂 basically it’s tangled no matter what. I could go into the same piece over and over and no matter what it snags and has to go through a tangle, the same piece! 😭
I come from a family of cosmetologist. My grandma owned her own shop on top of teaching at two cosmetology schools. The way things have changed, especially these kinds of standards, to have your hair done is ridiculous! I love your content. You do have interesting talking points. I don't always agree with you, but respect your opinions. Stay blessed! ❤
A lot of these rules, and extra confirmation text could be eliminated with a automatic scheduler. Either Acuity or Calendly. You put in your availability hours, which services and approx length. You can even black out appts 24hrs of the book date/time. The service will also auto send text confirmation, add to your calendar, send address and payment link.
LADYS, I'M A MASTER HAIR COLOR SPECIALIST PLEASE BOCOTT ALL STYLIST WITH THESE RULES DO NOT GO TO THEM BECAUSE IT'S TOO MUCH STRESS. DO NOT PAY $50.00 OR MORE TO HOLD A SEAT. THIS IS RIPING YOU OFF! DON'T PAY A LATE FEE OR ANY FEE .YOU SHOULD BE TRUSTED ENOUGH TO BE THERE ON TIME. THIS IS NOT AN REAL ARTIST. LEAVE HER AND ANY STYLISTS/ BRAIDER WITH THESE RULES ALONE. LET THEM SET IN THEIR CHAIRS WITH NO CLIENTS.THIS IS WHAT THEY ALL DESERVE. MOST ARE NOT PROS AND STATE-BOARD AND THE IRS NEEDS TO GET INTO THIS BECAUSE OF UNPAID TAXES MOST BRADERS DON'T PAY. IT'S HAS GOTTON OUT OF HAND!!! THIS HAS GOT TO STOP.!!!!
None of them wash hair because they're creepily doing hair without a license out of their house. That's why they won't send you the address until you pay them. They also can't wash your hair in their sink full of dirty dishes and they do not have a beautician sink 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
The first time I read a stylist policy,I had to LOL! All the bold, caps, red a highlighted areas were too funny! I’ve only paid a deposit to someone I personally knew.
I stopped going to hairstylists over a year ago... thank you for reminding me why. I'm not reading a dissertation just to book an overpriced, under serviced appointment. Signed, an Atlanta resident
Small businesses want cash because card machines charge a fee! Some states, including Alabama, require a license to wash hair, which may be why some won’t (can’t) do it.
True, but to me it does come across as unprofessional if you don't even take your business seriously enough to have a card machine for customers' convenience (Also, I wouldn't be surprised if they're dodging taxes too).
I'm just going to say that some of these rules can be vital for people who own their own business like this.. there are a huge amount of people who have absolutely zero respect for anyone else's time. Especially with things like stating "I don't answer emails or communicate on weekends" is absolutely necessary despite saying you don't work weekends. People do NOT consider emails "work" a lot of the time and think you're just saying "I don't touch hair on the weekends" I have an online shop and have had my shop suspended in vacation mode with an auto reply to emails saying I'm on vacation and have still had problems! And they can go from 0 to entitled so fast! I had someone order something incorrectly during the evening and by the AM when I check my email they've already sent 6 emails having a melt down, calling me a scammer for not answering immediately and are threatening a freaking charge back!! Same with calls, etc.. so I get why some of that is harped on.
hmmm maybe if you don’t want to answer questions when you are off the clock…you shouldn’t take orders either…ppl make mistakes and when you are spending money it is nerve wrecking when you make a mistake and can’t get ahold of someone that owns the business to solve the problem…ijs if you make a mistake or have an issue with a larger company it’s 24/7 customer service…
I went to cosmetology school in 2000. The first lessons we were taught were safety, sanitation and professionalism. I just wanted to comment on the "come washed and dried"...some people came to the school JUST to get the shampoo experience. People love getting their scalps massaged and laying back. I didnt know now they dont even shampoo!
The hair washing is absolutely the best part about going to a salon, the massage in the scalp feels so good and relaxing. If I saw someone say "come washed and dried" I would assume they're not licensed but also they're not worth my time and money if I have to do half the work.
3:00 it’s similar to going to a lash tech with a set from another tech and asking them for a new set. so most likely asking for a touch up with another hairstyle from another hairstylist
My mom is an old-school hairstylist and she has always washed blowdried / roller set and trimmed your hair when you come in for any service. I think it’s wild to expect someone to come in with their hair properly washed and blow dried some people don’t know how to wash their hair correctly. And honestly watching my mom when I was a little girl in her salon, I always compared the hair salon to being a therapeutic place. It’s definitely not like that anymore. These hairstyles are just mean girls.
These are shockingly awful... They come across so angry and aggressive (or sometimes passive aggressive) and all the rules and stuff that they say they won't do makes very clear they don't like doing hair. For instance, I do wigs. These people want the wigs dropped up washed and styled to be installed the next day? What in the world? When I used to do applications (I'm just a wig maker/repairer now) I used to love getting the hair, cleaning up the lace, washing the hair, drying and styling it. That's why I chose this industry and what I enjoy about my job. Having my fingers in some hair is my passion. These people sound like they want as little to do with the hair as possible. They really do come off as scammers, because aside from braids you technically aren't paying them to do anything. They don't wash, cut, style, blow out, dry, etc etc... If you just want to be a braider, just be a braider, but some of these people seem add "other services" (barely) just to see more money exchanging hands in their direction.
im a white girl with thin balding hair, and i know nothing about hair salons, but i love listening to you rant while i work 🤍 would absolutely love to see more! i wanna know just how bad can it be 👀
I don’t know how I ended up watching your videos but they are great! lol also, it’s wild to me that washing isn’t included in the appt, that’s my favorite part it’s like getting a little head massage lol
I wish the one salon I went to had a no gossiping rule. The stylist that did my hair (wash, blowout, silk press) was on the phone almost the entire time, including while she was washing my hair. She put her son on video chat and propped him up on the side and since my head was dunked in the sink I couldn’t tell if he could see me too, which made me uncomfortable. She also was eating some kind of garlic breadstick that smelled while she was washing my hair! I couldn’t believe that she was touching food while touching my wet hair. But literally she kept getting on the phone with person after person complaining about some girl she didn’t like, saying some pretty nasty things. Then while she was blow drying my hair she was on the phone with a friend telling her how this same girl she didn’t like must have been the one who called the health department on her salon because apparently a bunch of her stylists had had their styling licenses taken earlier that day! It was the most uncomfortable experience I’ve ever had at a salon and I couldn’t believe she was saying all this stuff in front of a new client.
As a new nail tech, I'm trying to implement rules and things, but i want to keep it simple. But sometimes it takes one customer to make it bad for the rest of us. But these videos are helpful.😅
With the touch up my first question is; what about transplants from another city, state, or country? Do they still not do it? Do they just want the customer to cut them or take them out before hand (probably.)? Ot sounds like a bad policy to me but, I'm just starting beauty school so what do I know?!
When I see cash app, cash,or zelle that means that they are not licensed and/or are avoiding paying taxes. Which means SCAMMER. It also means as a client if things get canceled on their part or something is messed up, YOU CANNOT DISPUTE THAT CHARGE!! Just scam scam scam. I refuse to get my hair, nails, lashes, or makeup done by an independent contractor. You need to work in a salon and the front desk take care of the payment. I need management to be setting your prices
There was a time I would get my hair done just about every 3wks. The hairdresser would wash my hair, steam and provide hair care ed. Now I have to wash my hair at home and then I’m lucky if my hair last 2 wks no matter the style. So now I’m trying to learn how to do my own hair. I don’t have time for these fly by night stylists.
This was an emotional rollercoaster lol. What if the reason why your getting your hair done is for maintenance? Do wash and sets not exist anymore? What if you physically cannot wash your own hair? I Wonder if these „rules“ are masking a lack of training/ education 🤨 These folks need to just stick to competition hair styling or working with fashion shows or film productions not not general public. No accessibility is being considered.
So, the "no extra guests" thing came about for a few reasons:
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley
Had a school internship for a hair dresser for three weeks and children where there on occasion and luckily they are all so sweet
The only noise problem I had were the noises of the salon itself (hair driers and the like)
I think it's always important that parents much more tell their children when they are too loud then not accepting guest because no way I hell I go to one on my own I'm way to terrified for that
I don't think any of these should be classified as "licensed professionals".
I agree with you, but this is what happens when everyone gets their wish and doesn't have to get licensed and bonded to be a stylist or braider.
Wow the account !
Rules need to be written as rules and not angry letters to past customers

Yeeeeesssss! You said it perfectly. There's a lot of resentment in these rules and policies. It was probably one or a few bad customers, and now they take it out on everybody. The tone of these policies is so aggressive. It turns people away.
You can literally sense the attitude in some of these policies. Like damn you mad at me for something I didn’t even do!! Let me be a problem before you get an attitude.

Doing a touch up on a style from another stylist actually sounds like an opportunity to gain a new customer. You can do a better job than the previous stylist.
at the same time if anything happens because of the previous stylist the other hairdresser can get the blame. Especially with lace wigs
Standard has always been:
Not generally working behind someone else unless extenuating circumstances.
Agree
@@janiquemaynard9593
Does it matter tho ? When it’s your first time sitting in someone’s chair, someone else before them already has done your hair before or even yourself. This kind of makes no sense, esp considering how much history (coloring, heat, chemicals etc that was done to the hair before) can hold.
This is why unless it's a special occasion, I do my own hair and learn how to install my own wigs or get them glueless. These people are batshit crazy
That last sentence has me wheezing 😂😂 you’re funny!

This!!!!
Honey you just said a whole word 💯 👏🏿
Thank you!!! I’ve been doing hair since the 90s and their lack of passion shows. And whoever said we shampoo hair, we don’t wash hair was correct!! There are little things a person can say to let you know that they are unprofessional.

My sister got scammed like that as well, they are low key scammers.
If I read something that looked like -
I am not doing more than what your asking me to do the day of.
That ONE mess up will make me pass up your advertisement.
It just reminds me of those scam emails.
Red flag all over, for me.

Thank goodness my local independent hairstylist is NOTHING like this. Like she went out of her way to travel 45min to my house, bleached my entire head of hair to platinum in about 7hours and charged me $50!! I was like nooooo I would feel like I'm cheating you! Lol
Idk what kind of price is fair for that service so I gave her $130

I’m in az. What’s her name/salon?
“Hairstylist” behavior. A beautician would NEVA! Even beauticians who are falling out of love with doing hair don’t neglect their customers like this. It’s always these unlicensed “hairstylist” acting like they’re fed up and bothered by an industry they honestly never cared about; if they really wanted to learn hair, they would’ve went to school for it to REALLY get into it. Never let a “stylist” play in your hair; only go to a licensed beautician or just do it yourself. 🤷🏽♀️
Sadly I have had licensed beauticians who have treated me the same way
@ there are exceptions of course. I know there are some “stylist” who don’t act like this. It’s just a safer bet to go to someone who cared enough to make it a profession by investing their time and money by going the traditional route of getting their license. There are some that are just trifling people and it definitely reflects in their practices.
Grammar on the internet is not that serious..
But correct grammar for a BUSINESS... VERY important. 😂😂
I would never patronize someone who is acting like they are doing me a favor for styling my hair. Ms Mamas, I am paying you!!!
It gave me a headache. The least they could’ve done is proofread it.
I don't go to anyone whose name or business doesn't appear on the state licensing website. I only trust licensed cosmetologists.

It sounds like she's NOT licensed if I'm expected to wash AND blow dry? 🚩
I remember as a child, when it was time to get my hair braided or twisted the braid lady would wash, dry, grease and part the hair and then braid it (it would take half a day). That was part of the hair styling. Now you gotta do half the work before you even walk in the door these days. Bring back old school stylists/braiders!
The old school style still happens here in Kenya.
Preach.
I 100% think everyone deserves to have rules and polices for their business - professionally worded, and out for everyone to see. Attitude is definitely a problem. I'm caucasian and I'm having a really hard time finding a stylist in my city, people are over complicated situations and getting mad at each other
“But, we’re not here for graphic critique” move over then cause I sure am!

Same lol
Like I know hair and graphic design are two totally different arts but...... I feel like, if you can't do something simple like recognize your font looks crazy, why should anyone trust you with their whole head? Attention to detail is probably a little bit of a transferable skill between the two?
I live in Canada & I just started going to a Dominican hair Salon in my area. I don’t need to book an appointment, they offer walk ins & I never wait more than 10 minutes. I’m tenderhearted so they’re gentle with me & I love the scalp massage during the wash.
where?
Same here in Texas. I go to a Spanish lady but she is always booked! But she charges a fair price for a silk press/Dominican blow out (49$ for short hair and $59 for long hair and $10 for cutting split ends)! She’s quick and efficient. Book online, reschedule online if needed or cancel with in 24 hours. No deposit not crazy policy. I love her. In and out and feel amazing.
Can’t be more than 10 mins early, can’t be more than 10 mins late. But be patient and don’t rush me. Damn. Can’t win at all
These hairstylists are crazy!!!! Them all having cash app only? That screams, I’m not a licensed stylist!!!
My daughter is a stylist & she definitely doesn’t do cash app🤷🏻♀️ she’s using a payment app that is one lots of stylist use. I schedule for her & went to cosmetology school as well! Walk-ins are welcome, you just gon pay for it 💀
as a licensed cosmetologist that worked for a salon run by an old school stylist, some of this is wild to me. some makes good sense. God Bless!
Quick question; after all of this, is tipping still expected?
😂😂😂
I cannot imagine the type of clients they deal with to go to this extreme
Some people act like their customers are an inconvenience to them.
That’s what I was thinking also. I also thought of another reason but you’ll hear it as the video goes, let me know if I’m incorrect though.
“We’re not here for a graphic critique”
Me, a graphic designer: yes we are😃
I am a receptionist at a LEGITIMATE hair salon and this is giving me anxiety.

When did salon stop washing and blow drying hair as part of the service? Why is it an add on now?
Maybe I'm weird but wouldn't not shampooing the hair, and only styling be considered unsanitary?
The energy behind these policies makes me want to just learn how to do my own hair.
3:00 it’s similar to going to a lash tech with a set from another tech and asking them for a new set. so most likely asking for a touch up with another hairstyle from another hairstylist
I'm here for it!!! Thank You
#1st💚
EARLY!!! Love it ❤️
The writer in me in is LOVING the grammar/language/even design critique here 😂😂😂
0:53 advertising your misuse of 'is' vs. 'are' would have me backing out of that booking site so fast.😂
If you just want to be a braider, just be a braider, but some of these people seem add "other services" (barely) just to see more money exchanging hands in their direction.
im a white girl with thin balding hair, and i know nothing about hair salons, but i love listening to you rant while i work 🤍 would absolutely love to see more! i wanna know just how bad can it be 👀
I know nothing of these things but I love your videos
So happy I found your channel 😊 I listen you at work.
It looks like hair is a serious business in US...
How are you charging if cancelled after10 min😢😊😢😊
As a new nail tech, I'm trying to implement rules and things, but i want to keep it simple. But sometimes it takes one customer to make it bad for the rest of us. But these videos are helpful.😅
I love your videos, they’re super entertaining! You’re hilarious 😂 keep making more content please 🙏🏻
With the touch up my first question is; what about transplants from another city, state, or country? Do they still not do it? Do they just want the customer to cut them or take them out before hand (probably.)? Ot sounds like a bad policy to me but, I'm just starting beauty school so what do I know?!
24:33 How am I suppose to thoroughly detangl my hair without a moisturizer???
As a hairdresser I am just baffled at this…. Greedy is putting it lightly
Luv your videos and commentary❤️😇🤗👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼😁😀
This was an emotional rollercoaster lol. What if the reason why your getting your hair done is for maintenance? Do wash and sets not exist anymore? What if you physically cannot wash your own hair? I Wonder if these „rules“ are masking a lack of training/ education 🤨
These folks need to just stick to competition hair styling or working with fashion shows or film productions not not general public. No accessibility is being considered.
These new stylist is why I sit over here with my glueless Ali express wig. 😂
When you said ‘I’m glitching’ I busted out laughing. 😂
I feel like all these rules are talking to past clients 😂.
