In this long-anticipated presentation, I proudly share one of the most exciting acquisitions in my lifetime of research and collecting.
A number of buttons are examined and discussed, with the emphasis being on a circa 1800 U.S. Army high level officer button. At present only eight other examples are known to exist in prominent private collections.
The image in the thumbnail is presented for context and depicts General Peter Gansevoort. The portrait was painted by Gilbert Stuart in 1794 and illustrates the type of uniform this button would have adorned. Below is a link to Gen. Gansevoort’s Wikipedia page:

Thanks! I’ve had that book for so long, when I bought it they were like $45. I can’t believe how many button collectors don’t have it. Good luck on picking up a Rev War button. The pewter ones are often pretty rough. I kinda got spoiled finding pewter buttons so I’m picky on condition. Beware of pewter buttons that have been “restored” unless you don’t object to that.

@@CollectorChronicles I buy a lot of war buttons from Shiloh Relics. The owner has become a friend over the years he's finding me a nice one, check out my Irish jasper greens button if you haven't the button was named after a Irish revolutionary War hero, but it's a Irish Civil War one it's pretty cool
