My first mobile game revenue - 6 months after launch
Вставка
- Опубліковано 27 жов 2019
- In this video I wanted to share my own experience of developing my very first game for iOS and Android and talk about how much revenu I got half a year later. I hope it will help to get some ideas about mobile game development. As an example I use my game - Ailment.
Ailment - Android/iOS pixel-art style mobile game. The game available on:
GooglePlay: play.google.com/store/apps/de...
AppStore: itunes.apple.com/app/id146303...
Steam: store.steampowered.com/app/11... - Ігри
Really detailed and straight to the point video☝🏼Huge congrats on such results!
Thanks Nick!

@@miniyeti88 Yes love it when people don't fill the videos with useless fluff
@@miniyeti88 hi can i ask you in private ?
Respect man! I call this a huge success, especially since it is your first game. Looking forward to seeing more games from you.
I love your honesty. Like real reveal with stats. Not like some shady and vague comments like I make some extra cash. Thanks for the info! Now I have some perspectives!
It's good to have open and honest review of a mobile launch. Thank you so much!
It's amazing to see a success case. I believe it will only get better.
thank you, fingers crossed :D
It's hilarious and sad that $1000 a month is considered a success story. I guess that's what we get when Unity brings down the barrier of entry to literally drag and drops.
Pedro Luiz Souza Pinto But not in financial terms think this looks amazing game and deserves more for work involved. If you are a full time web designer or game designer you would 1.5x more per month. Maybe if had to pay £1 for the game might be another option.
@1234 The reality is much worst, this game is made by a youtuber, than means he can promote it through his youtube or some channel he made (which is free, and easiler to get some positive comments from his followers). The true reality is... 80-90% of mobile games in the market are called "zombie" (yes, you can search for the related news with "zombie app in app store" or sth).
Even you made an OK game, it is impossible to survive, the mobile game market is so crowded that most developers are fxxked, and most app became zombie 3 years before! And even you have some luck and made a living with 1 or 2 games, you are still in nightmare. Why? Because Google / Apple will change their search algorithm every 1 to 2 years, games that originally ranked OK can be doomed after they change something.
You can try to searching for some mildly successful app or game (some even get "Recommended" in the app store when first launched), and many of them are doomed after 2 years. Because nobody cares, nobody is actually paying for something. And you even had to begged for the users to rate the game in the app store...
The so called "freemium" thing is in fact just a tool to slave the developers making things to the app store for free!
@@miniyeti88 Hello Sir Ur Junior Here sir can u give ur whatsapp or Email i need some help from u sir
Thanks for the content bro! These videos are really inspiring. Congratulations on your success!
Thank you for sharing your numbers, appreciate it!
Thank you for publishing your efforts and the results. It is motivating to watch these videos
I got really curious and purchased your game a few minutes ago from Steam :)
Thank you!
1k per month... is not a lot to say that you can survive with just that as an income but if you have your day job and thats now an extra... that's great. i hope you get to the point that you make more than 4k per month. congrats so far.😉
Johnnyxp64 half will go to taxes and expenses haven’t even been deducted... 1k is not a lot
1k its lot
finally someone who says some details
thanks
Exactly what I wanted to see. Very informative, thank you and congratulations on your game.
Thanks!
Great work bro!
Please don't abandon the PC scene, maybe a new version of this game for PC Xbox and PS will be awesome.
With more difficulty and character adjustments that are saved along the player progress
Thank you so much being clear on subject.
Appreciate the insight. Keeps things in perspective. Good luck with future sales you deserve more.
Thank you !!
Good video brother! I always wanted to develop my stuff as well! Something will work out!
All the best. I am not into games and somehow your video showed in my UA-cam recommendations :). Great work none the less.
Same here, but very interesting facts. Would be nice to know how many hours you spend in total with this project the 6 month including also videos like this.
Congratulations bro. you did great

I really appreciate the straightforwardness and not finding ways to make the video drag on!
Thank you!
Keep going man, awesome job!!!
Hey Ivan, love the video. As a fellow gamedeveloper, I do appreciate how much you shared. I hope my game can be successful as well.
Big thanks for this video ! Very informative for indie game maker !
I'll buy it, live your dream my dude. God speed.
You did allot better than my first ever play store launch a few months back, of '8' downloads 😅 but you are honest, and straight to the point . . Subbed 👍🏼 and I hope you make it big time 👍🏼👍🏼
@LeVarBurger Thanks! I guess that's another way of looking at it :-)
Thank you for your sharing revenue, I love to become game indie like you.
Thank you for the content! Would love to hear some differences or obstacles you dealt with when building for mobile vs porting to PC, if any!
Congrats on your Game , And Inspiring me to not give up on my game.

@@miniyeti88 I will be creating a new UA-cam channel for game design/dev too. If you Send me a dm I have few Ideas....
This game looks cool and I enjoyed your content. Much love to. You brother, keep it up, I see big things happening in your future.
In interested in creating my own games on all platforms and you've encouraged me just by seeing you his video. Im definitely going to put in a good word for you.
Thanks you so much! I really appreciate it!
Keep pushing forward!!!
Goodluck to you. It was one of my dream job to make games. But ive never really good with programming. Subscribed, hope to see you more success.
Thanks man!
DEJAVU You don’t have to know how to program to make games. You could get a job creating different assets/textures for games if you wanted to. Blender is a great tool to use, but some people just aren’t skilled enough to use it, so they look to hire people for their assets.
Really impressive that your first game got a HIT nice man thx for sharing
Thanks for sharing your experience. Good job on the game.
Thanks!!
Thank you for the information, this is a successful project in my eyes congratulations.
Thanks 😊
Thanks for the insight!
You should do series for teach unity, i want to learn something ( i played your game and i like it)
watch brackeys its so well done
Thanks for sharing the info. Game looks great.
Thank you for the informative videos on what it's like to get going as a solo developer. You were an artist/animator who learned to code. Any advice for people out there who want to learn art and animation techniques from scratch? 2D, pixel art and animation, software suggestions, guide suggestions, etc.
I’d say easier to learn pixel art first, I used photoshop, but people say it’s easier in asprite
I have played this game.😍 nice one.
Nice job Ivan. Thanks for sharing. 400K for 6K.. on par with streaming music almost... saw someone with 550K streams receive 2.5K revenue.
congrats on your success for the first games!
😊
Thanks!
Guys Go Hard on that subscribe button and support this kind of Ppl , He deserves it . I hope you upload some Tutorials .
Hey Ivan, I was doing the exact same thing you were. I also took a break on a solo game project. I might be a bit rusty but when I saw your video it made me want to revisit my 2018 project. If your interested in making a second game. I would like for you to take a look at some of the sprites and ideas I have. Maybe we can combine the two? It's very similar too your style. If your interested, we can team up on discord? Just PM me and let me know? Thanks and good job on your mobile game.
I just downloaded this game a week ago and now UA-cam recommend me to this. Is Google take my data on this?
By the ways, solid good game. The controller is little bit wonky which may make dodging bullet quite hard, other than that, health kit and shield spreads out evenly. Because of tight hallway force player play more aggressively into the big room.
Nice!
Of course Google take your data.

Thanks for sharing.
well done, great work and impressive numbers
Damn dude I wish you made more because you made a good quality game.
Great, Thanks for the honest video. Btw. How long it took for you to build this game? is there any place where you have posted the process you went through ? would be nice to hear about that
Yeah I have another video , how much can a solo dev earn, there I talk about process
Hi, love your videos on your success, I too am trying to get into making a Mobile game with Unity, Can you point me to some Videos that you found really useful on your journey? I have very very small coding experience and would like to learn. If you could link me to some useful things to get my foot in the door that would be fantastic!

This must be very addicting seeing ur work gets so much downloads 😁 are u a one man army? That's pretty impressive!
Yep 😉thanks
@@miniyeti88 Im curious tho🤔 440k downloads only yielded around 6k revenue. Initially i thought you would earn at least 1 dollar per download. But the reality its almost like downloads are insignificant to revenue, how come that's the case? It seams u r doing so well and would make a fortune!
I wish it was like that but reality is 1cent per user
Congrats @Ivan, your game looks dope and I wish you best of luck. Thanks for sharing info related to ad-monetization and your experience with google play store
I'm curious how was the response from Apple App store?
I appreciate the info. I bought your game (on Steam) because I want to support indy developers.
Thank you for that man 😊
Man I need to make my own 3d game
Hey Ivan, pretty good job on your game. You are self taught and that is motivating more to go on this journey. How long did it take you to develop the game? And the art? Did you use purchased assets or did you draw everything yourself?
Hey, thanks, I made everything by myself, really wanted to do it on my own. It took around 8-10 months
@@miniyeti88 ok much appreciated for the feedback
congratulations man
Nice man really let me know what’s up with the revenue! How long did it take you to get a build up on the store?
Truly amazing congratulations! may i ask how long did you take learning unity3d
did script top to bottom or used somthing like playmaker or so
me i'm so hard on learning programming still can't make my own game
Thanks for the video . Very informative
Congrats
Thanks!
Bravo continue comme sa
Thanks for sharing your insights and data. I am also learning coding to make games like you. Just need a little guidance as I got to know about gdpr and coppa. So just wanna ask one thing. Did inapp purchase also need parental consent for kids app in the starting of the game? Thanks.
Good job
Ванёк, ты красавчик! Молодчага!

Man the earnings should be wayyy more...
Directly proportional to the success
Thanks for sharing, I subscribed to your channel simply because of you're open honesty.I will definitely make use of the learning resources you're providing, play your game and promote it where and when I'm able to. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing.😁
I’m not even sure how I stumbled onto this video or your channel. But this is very cool! How long does it take to make a game like this? And my Big question is how much would you charge to make something similar for someone?
Thanks! It took me 8 months, but I would not do it for anyone, it’s a hobby 😊
Ivan Panasenko wow! I was playing it last night I decided to try it out. Pretty damn fun! I gotta try the multiplayer next. And I understand not selling any games. That much time into one you’re probably super attached. Keep up the good work! If you’re already ranking in the store on your first/second game then you have some serious potential!!!
Ohh I live this game
Congrats! I wanted to ask how long did it take you to code and make the pixels as well as how many hours does it take from your day.
Around 5 months, including weekends
@@miniyeti88 and how many times do you fix bugs and check up on the app
love the way you share your revenue so much! you are my hero! by the way, is droidgamers a good way to promote the game? could you please share it to me? thank you so much and wish you all the best!
I cannot tell for sure as I promoted the game using couple of websites at the same time, can’t tell which one worked

M8 could you please do a short tutorial on how to switch from unity Ads to Ad Mob? btw Amazing game, well done, keep up good work!
Great job man! How did you market the game so that it got so many downloads?
Check my other video about Marketing, I explain there all in details
Thank you!
WOW MUY BUENA LA INFO, GRACIAS.
learning programing ? o.o i think didnt make the right queestion 😅thanks ivan you are motivation stuff ! best of luck on your proyects
Did you have to make any changes to your code when releasing your program in Windows or does unity handle all the translations for the different OS?
It does handle!
That's not much :( hope you get more $$$$$ soon. Very good straight to the point video. Subbed ofc
Thanks 🙏
oooh . thaks a lot for answering my question and what a fast answer 👌 keep it that way while you can 😂 the last question . how long have u been learning game dev
11 months now
Никогда не думал, что бывает приятный славянский акцент.

High five!
I'm playing multiplayer with my friends - we are going to make a tournament next month!!1
Heyo! awesome news! How's you d-g business?
@@miniyeti88 still doing well 😉
Very good
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
Congrats on the success! Are you tempted to try the premium route - maybe for your next game? If 1% of your players bought the game for a couple of bucks you'd have similar numbers. Also did you do any Facebook ads/ or similar or just review websites?
Thank you, I did you tube advertising but mot much, as its pretty expensive. But yeah did questionnaire in mu game: asking whether people prefer next game to be free with ads or paid without, and got response form 3000 people. 20% for paid version. So maybe worth to make paid.
I'm currently teaching myself how to create video games. I want to say that you are a huge inspiration. I'm only doing this as a hobby and for fun. Exactly the same intentions as you did. I've never had to write code for anything, and I'm watching videos and tutorials about C# & Unity Engine. I don't even know how to do computer graphics. I'm basically a virgin in this field. So far this is been a lot of fun.
Thanks ! Good luck to you!
@@miniyeti88 I just downloaded your game. I can't wait to try it.
About the monetization - it's very hard question - i think it's the one of the hardest ones for gamedev in general.
You can just make "Pay to play" game where player have either grind resources to get new level or pay and pass that grind. But it'll anger the players : (
So, maybe, better leave monetization as is (publicity + cosmetics), but just make more games with same engine (part 2, part 3 e.t.c.) - it would be very cheap.
Gl anyway : D
Мог бы и по-русски написать
What are the stats like for mobile indie games that are paid up front? i.e. doesn't rely on in game advertising? It's a higher barrier, so you'll have much less downloads but it seems at least you are getting paid for each user
so y unity ads paid less than admob.. maybe got somethings from unity term on ads revenue...
i guess you need to hire people to work with you to make updates/faster/better games! more games=more income :) kudos to your passion! it seems like a good game.
probably in the future, for now its pretty fun working alone ;) Thanks!
Nice video, Did your downloads increase after you worked with Droid gamers?
Bro you need to add cosmetics for monetization. I'd be willing to help design some if you want!
Big wow
How long did it take for you to make this game? - also you gained a sub very well made video!
Thanks! Took me 8-10 months !
Ivan Panasenko also i’m very interested into getting into game design and just recently started doing pixel art, could you give me some programs and some tips and tricks to help me get started on my journey
I d check some course on udemy.com☺️
Hey, that's pretty good start for your first game :) Keep up the good work! I'm sure you'll make more in the future
Can you please tell me how did you make this game? I mean what programming language and game creator (engine?) did you use? I'm also hoping to start amdroid games development. Thanks!
Check my other video “how much money can solo game developer earn” here I tell all this
400k download and 6k revenue, if true that's too low man... i have earned around 20k with my casual game by just showing interstitial ads after each level.. level average time 10 minutes.
Thats cool, man, but I dont want make something I wouldn't play myself. And casual games are not my type really. I have a job, so this one is just a hobby for now, so I dont really rely on it as an income source
@@miniyeti88 Wow man, Respect.
It’s Ailment
