  • Today we are visiting the (disputed) highest village in Britain, Flash on the border between Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Cheshire. Now a welcome break for ramblers visiting The Roaches nearby to enjoy a drink at the highest village pub in Britain (again, other 'highest pubs in Britain' are available!), at one time this little village was a known haven for brigands, counterfeiters and other villainous types. It is due to this that Quarnford, as it was once known, became more widely known as 'Flash'.
The village was also once a centre for the beginnings of the Methodist movement, the movement being established here by the mid 18th century and spreading out across Staffordshire. Such nefarious haunts as Flash were often targeted by the movement as they sought to spread God's word to those who they felt needed it most.

It's now officially the highest village in Britain in one aspect-the top of the church spire is the highest point in all of the disputed highest villages in Britain.

Where you were standing taking this shot is just a few metres from what used to be the Methodist Chapel which is now a private dwelling. Walking away from the direction of the church it is on the right.

Pity you did not go into the churchyard,? Methodist had chapels not churches so no spire, it's easy to differentiate the two.
