In terms of storyline its this and Elysium that most likely inspired the cyberpunk story - with a few others. Blade Runner has almost no influence storywise, but definitely has its wider Cyberpunk genre influence as usual of course.
Same. But not the game itself just gameranx video on it. Saying it's a cross between Star wars and Indiana Jones but didn't think anything about Johnny mnemonic.
The book is based on a very short story witch itself is like a shorter version of Neuromancer by the same author. Him and Phillip k Dick basically created terms like cyberdeck, cyberspace (the net), implants, megacorps, replicants/androids, netrunners, etc.
Keanu Reeves deserved to be in the Cyberpunk 2077 video game after already being in a few legendary works of Cyberpunk fiction. 2077 did a fantastic job nodding omage to so many works from the past few decades, lets hope Phantom Liberty makes it the game we all where promised.
In the original Johnny Mnemonic book, it's described as a "mono-molecular wire" haha. The assassin also dresses like a nondescript middle-aged Japanese tourist in a Hawaii shirt and sandals, blending in instead of looking like he's from The Matrix. Brilliant story.
@@Paraprax the "original" wasn't a book, it was a short story publish in Omni magazine. the only book it was part of was burning chrome which was just a compilation of short stories from omni.

The Johnny Mnemonic short story didn't have a monowire whip. That was straight from Cyberpunk 2020. And I'm sort of disappointed that Cyberpunk 2077 didn't have more Blade runner references.
does anyone have johnny mnemonic laser whip prop? Or designs for the thumb armour? I've been looking ALL OVER no matter where I look I can't find the prop or even decent stills of it taken from the movie!
Yeah, I tried it and liked it, though it wasn't as great as I hoped. Are you using the one you buy or the one you find? I used the free one, but it is not as good, though legendary.
@@milowadlin The one you find had higher stats for me. But I also got 20 body and 19 cool so I am doing 42k criticals with the chemical one (poison perk on cool)
Finished watching this yesterday on 2/24/2022 but originally watched it on January of 2021 where the film as well as original story takes place in and all I have to say is what an underrated film this was. Such an interesting film as well mainly because its based in 2021, and that they were predicting what 2021 was going to be like; thankfully 2021 was not like that but I do have to say its somewhat similar and they did predict one thing; a pandemic alongside sickness taking place which they were right as we have this awful pandemic taking place which has now been 2 years since it first started. Not sure why this movie gets so much hate but out of all honesty I do see some reasons. Overall, it was a very interesting movie, yes its kind of all over the place, interesting and difficult to explain but it did have a great storyline, characters, cast such as Ice-T as well as young Keanu Reeves alongside soundtrack. A bit creepy, and confusing in some scenes but other than that it was amazing. Plus the fact that its based in 2021, really goes to show how far ahead they were thinking/predicting which even though much that they predicted hasn't come fully true yet, it slowly is, especially with the chips and of course the metaverse being a thing now. Not only that, but the fact that its origins came from a book that was written long ago where things weren't as futuristic as it is now, really goes to show how futuristic the author was even if it cut short in the end which to me was fine as most stories end like that otherwise you'd have to continue on or perhaps have another film for but other than that it truly was truly an amazing film and a film that was very interesting to watch. Glad to have watched it especially in 2021, and in 2022.
I think most films set in the future expect change faster than it actually happens. I would rate them above average on predictions, and sometimes change happens very fast. Thanks for your comment.
It gets even better, you know how in the movie the lowteks were hacking into tvs to spread their message. People from the antiwork subreddit have hacked into receipt printers to spread anti work and pro union instructions.

It's not this this movie that inspires cyberpunk also Blade Runner Total Recall
@@simonjack9699 It's literally this movie and Neuromancer, the book which this movie is based on.

Lots of Johnny Mnemonic easter eggs in the Cyberpunk 2077 showcase. So hyped!

Glad they used Mnemonic over Matrix to tie into Cyberpunk. It fits way better.
Who's there after Cyberpunk 2077 trailer?
That laser whip on the Cyberpunk trailer and Keanu Reeves brought me here.
Same, when i saw the whip in the short gameplay clips i immediately picked up the Johnny mneomonic reference
Saw it in a theater as a kid...read the short story years later. Huge William Gibson fan. Now I'm playing cyberpunk straight merking dudes.
Steam says I have 328 hours of play so far. Great stuff!
Read the source books and novels. The game didn't do the source material justice.

Monofilament whip from Shadow Run.
