- The japanese release of JM had a waaaaaay cooler soundtrack, and the upload of this scene that is already up has the shitty music instead of the great one.
Please, now that you've seen this, don't watch the rest of the movie, it's shit.
The song here is U2 Alex Descends into Hell for a Bottle of Milk? It is mixed better in this English version but perhaps other songs in the Japanese Soundtrack are better? The Japanese version:

I didn't realize U2 had a song in this until I read that and I had to find it and it said it was inspired by A Clockwork Orange so I also didn't realize U2 were a fan of that movie.

There's also a spinning logo with the words "TESSIER ASHPOOL" on the upper right when Johnny first logs in. Another Neuromancer reference.
The story was written by William Gibson and can be found in the *Burning Chrome* anthology.

The interesting thing is that this - William Gibson's vision of "cyberspace" - predates most of what we think of as the internet. (Johnny Mnemonic was written in 1981. Usenet existed then, But SMTP and IRC didn't. The world wide web wasn't even a glint in Berners-Lee's eye.)
That would be crazy if life were actually like that....oh wait
But only for govt, banks, corporations and the rich.
@@AlephNeil Gibson did not anticipate our Internet.

I gotta admit the VR set up is pretty cool and mirrors what we're heading for right now really well..I guess it's kinda true that geeks predict the future at times..we see the sci-fi stuff growin' up and wanna make it real.
That's very true. Early Star Trek communicators looked like flip phones, Star Trek TNG Padds looked like tablets, and plenty of scifi predicted flat screen monitors and virtual keyboards. I wouldn't be surprised if these fictional sources had a hand in influencing the designers of the real thing.
@@LnPPersonified Don't forget automatic doors that opened when you stepped in front of them. I really liked the cyberpunk vibe from this movie, but that was about it. Reminds me of pre-Matrix films and shows like Blade Runner, Bubblegum Crisis, and Hackers. I just like the genre.
+creekandseminole YES! I read an article, that speculated as to whether Hayden Christensen (young Anakin Skywalker) was going to be the lead role in the movie Neuromancer! I just wish that the writing would lay on the cyberpunk technology really thick, to dazzle the sci-fi audience, instead of watering it down, for the mainstream.
FreezeGripCataclysm Soooooo many people have tried to get Neuromancer made into a film. For me, the best director that was interested and I think would make an awesome film would be Chris Cunningham who was at one time attached to it. Go check out his music videos and tell me what you think!
+creekandseminole I checked out a piece of runner johnny and the Bjork video. If he was already attached to the idea, then I would love to see him direct it!
FreezeGripCataclysm Yeah!!! My favorite video by him is either "Come to Daddy" by Aphex Twin or "Sheena is a Parasite" by the Horrors.
+FreezeGripCataclysm The reason Neuromancer will never be made (at least in a good way) is that the plot itself isn't that interesting or even coherent. The enjoyment of Neuromancer comes more from Gibson's colorful narration and from the world he creates.
Wish there was a cyberspace mini game in cyberpunk 2077 like this

An underrated film, and an interesting one. I originally watched this in the January of 2021 again, as the film, and the original story takes place at that time. Real amazing, how they thought about how 2021 would be, and I guess they got something right, and I would say it would be the "Pandemic/Sickness". But in all honesty, a very interesting film, with a great cast especially with Ice T, and a young Keanu. Overall, great storyline, characters, and soundtrack added to it. It's worth watching, but you'd find how "interesting" this movie really is, literally. Kind of hard to describe this film, but as said it deserves its credit especially for a 1995 film, and worth a watch.
Well... no.
The underlying story already wasn't that good, and the movie was at best mediocre. There are a lot better stories by Gibson that could be turned into movies, the key problem is that Gibson doesn't understand computers. He knows story writing, and his stories are quite good to read, but they don't translate well into what really works in the world. He knows how to create worlds and how to write engaging and interesting characters, but he simply knows jack about the whole "computer stuff".
Henry Rollins and Dolph Lungren as a bible thumping hitman as well if I recall correctly
prophetic. the syndrom will hurt so many billion people. it's all in the air, parasiting brains.
Funny thing is that this movie and the first Star Wars trilogy both saw technology is in a similar manner. In Star wars, the existence of AI meant that the only reliable way to move data from 1 place to another was with physical means. In this movie, its the rise of cybercriminals who make it so you have to use biological means to move data. George Lucas never gets the credit he deserves for being way ahead of everyone when it came to envisioning cybersecurity and the excessive use of air gaps in a future dominated by AI.
This is how we should all behave when using the internet.
Disappointed that nobody has made this kind of graphic user interface for the internet
It's right around the corner trust me, they just need vr interface tech to be less cumbersome and ridiculous looking and then youll be seeing stuff like this arise from general investment.
Its been tried but the problem is that the Internet really isn't fast enough for that kind of stuff. The Internet was developed to be robust rather than fast.
@@DChatc It'll take a while though since we all know someone named Mark is going to patent troll everyone who tries to develop it.
"C'mon. Allllllllll the way back to Newark." Best Keanu line ever.

3:23 LOL!!! That facepalm is just hilarious.
Who's watching in 2021 with their minds blown out?
I know this is an opinion, and I'm about 5 years or so too late to say anything, but there is sooo much more than just this scene to Johnny Mnemonic. The movie itself may be a discombobulated mess with how it was handled and who was behind the camera, but if you look at it from a perspective of the short story by William Gibson, this was actually very easily a great adaptation of his work. Hell, he wrote it after all. The main reason, as far as I believe, why everyone seems to find this film on the lower end of the scale is because of the interference from Hollywood with Robert Longo's vision, where he was told to add characters and situations he thought were superficial. I'm glad they told him no on a black and white featurette for $2m, although they should have just put him on B roll footage, and brought in a director that had more under their belt than just a few music videos. All in all, with what there was, this movie was an excellent first attempt, and a good film... at least to me, but what do I know? I enjoy the Super Mario Bros film for it being a zany story rather than an adaptation of a video game franchise. I mean come on, Dennis Hopper with cornrows, dude. The actors did a great job, for the most part ("Jesus time" mr. Lundgren? Really?), along with the camerawork and story were pretty solid. The music score was by far some of the best though, which made the movie a much more enjoyable experience. I know its just an opinion, so I'm just giving mine. Take it or leave it.
I'm just annoyed at how Molly was butchered in this movie.

as kitschy as this movie is, it's a must see for any sci-fi fan! There are numerous precursors to the Matrix in this movie, my favorite being when Keanu fires his gun until it's empty, then stops to look at it. That scene is done pretty much exactly as it was done in the Matrix. Is it an overall flop? Yes, but hey, even flops become classics...
0:51 illuminati confirmed Keanu is a time traveller
This movie is fucking awesome, I remember being a baby and seeing this on a blockbuster movie shelf, the box had Keanus face on it and the top of the box was clear, so you could see the tape inside the VHS. Awesome 👍

Man... to think Keanu went from this, to Matrix, to John Wick.
He really moved up in the world after this movie.

Keanu was actually in some high-profile projects early in his career. He had a small role in Parenthood, which was heavily promoted when it came out, My Own Private Idaho made a splash on the indie film scene, Dracula was a big budget movie that received a lot of attention, Speed also came out in 1995. Keanu has been successful his entire film career. I remember he did have a couple years where he kind of fell of in '96-'98, then I picked up a magazine that showed a really early preview of his next film that would be coming out the next year....it was a picture of Keanu on a rooftop with some lady with black hair wearing PVC, fighting some guys in suits. I was honestly like, "Oh no Keanu, not another flop!" Glad I was wrong about that one.
I want to see this scene, full on Keanu acting it out sitting at the desk without all the sfx. Sold that scene easy, everything he did there was so believable.
